The Royal Oak Gastro Pub in North West Leicestershire

Great Sunday Lunch as always! The food is always delicious and the chocolate brownie always goes down a treat! The staff were rushed off their feet but all of them were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

I was so disappointed with our visit to the Royal Oak yesterday for Sunday lunch. The service was very slow and I felt the food not up to the usual standard. I asked for a gluten free Yorkshire pudding which was rock hard and like a dry biscuit! Mashed potatoes would have been a nice addition too. The young man who served us was unsmiling and not very knowledgeable, and it took ages for the main course plates to be removed. Eventually we had to request this. No one asked if we had enjoyed our meal. We were given the desert menu and I chose the gluten free chocolate brownie. It came with just sorbet ( no lemon marscapone as stated in the menu). Most disappointing. We have been coming to the Royal Oak since it opened and over the years have celebrated many birthdays, anniversaries and other notable family social occasions . I am sorry to say that this was the worst meal we have ever experienced. I am hoping it was a one off. The one highlight was when we met a member of staff called Amy who smiled chatted and extended hospitality when no one else had, she was an absolute credit to you. I am sure we will return and fingers crossed hope our disappointment on this occasion was a one off.

Having visited many times for Sunday lunch we were very excited to be returning however it was so disappointing. The dinner was tasteless, the gravy like water and the meat was not the standard it used to be. Always have chocolate brownie but it came out cold when it has always been served warm before. The staff did warm it up for me when I asked. The staff were very nice but when we raised our issues nobody seemed to care. We ate at 4 and felt like they couldn’t wait for us to go so we skipped coffee. It felt like nobody was in charge. Hopefully it was just an off day but it’s such a shame as we’ve always raved about The Oak before but I wouldn’t recommend it now.

Visited on Sunday afternoon with my husband and one year old son. The new decor looks fab, friendly service and drinks came out quickly. However, food was very disappointing! Mine and my husbands was cold and tasteless. My pork belly was so fatty that a lot of it was inedible. As for my son’s food, can only describe it as terrible. Mash potato was bland and tasted like dishwater! Sausages were not nice and the peas still tasted half frozen. Nobody came over during the meal to ask how it was so I mentioned it when they took the plates and the waiter didn’t even apologise. Such a shame as we used to love coming here, but unfortunately wouldn’t return.

Food and service all great until we were overcharged. We had both chosen from the prix fixe menu but mine was charged as individual items. Chap initially said my starter wasn’t on the prix fixe menu, but when it was pointed out that it was he was very apologetic.

Booked Sunday Lunch on a recommendation and was not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere, good variety of choice on the menu.Excellent service and friendly staff. Will definitely return and recommend to family and friends.

Stayed overnight here on route to Leeds from the south. Fabulous! Just a couple of mikes from the M1… comfortable rooms, friendly, delicious dinner and breakfast.

Lovely lunchtime meal. We went for 2 course option of main and dessert and we weren’t disappointed. Service good too. We’ll be back.

Visited here for Sunday lunch and it was great. I had the trio of meats - beef, lamb and pork belly and my husband had beef and lamb. It arrived with roast potatoes (clearly home made), a large parsnip, large carrot, big Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy. That in itself was enough, so imagine our surprise when the sever said she would be back with our veg! A second dish full of cauliflower cheese, green beans, broccoli, green cabbage and red cabbage arrived - such a big portion we couldn’t eat it all. Whilst the beef wasn’t as pink as I would usually like it was very tasty and tender. The pork belly was tasty - great crackling and only a very thin layer of fat. The star of the show, however was the lamb. It just melted in the mouth. Dessert was equally as good. Can’t wait go back again.

We were visiting the area and stopped here for Sunday lunch, we did book ahead, would recommend you do. Such friendly staff, delicious food. Loads of veggies came as a side to the Sunday lunch which I love. Top value for money. Highly recommend.

Booked The Royal Oak for a Business Team lunch and sent through a pre-order as there were 14 of us. The service was excellent and everyone enjoyed their meals. Everything arrived on time and the staff even knew where we were all sat and so the meal ordered was delivered to the right person. The staff are always very friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend.

We had not been to the Royal Oak for a long time and had received a gift voucher so we booked in for Sunday lunch. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive and service was excellent. We both chose roast beef and although the beef and Yorkshires were yummy, unfortunately the roast potatoes and the veg ( in a separate serving dish) were luke warm. We mentioned it to our waitress and she was very apologetic and replaced the roast potatoes and the veg. It was a shame though as we had nearly eaten our beef and yorkshire pudding by the time the veg had returned. The puddings were lovely, just a shame our dinner was spoilt.

Very enjoyable Sunday lunch with the family, food was excellent as was the service. We had our two young grandchildren with us and the staff made them feel very welcome.

Whenever in the area we stay here and here if we can and have been doing so for 5ish years. Frankly the place is perfect and we are delighted the RO keeps doing it year after year.
