The Royal Oak in Shropshire

Another great example of taking a punt on a pub you have not researched. Sat between two CAMRA 2024 Good Beer Guide pubs..might well be in 2025 judging by CAMRA pub of season awards. Part of the 50+ Black Country Ales pub chain. Super find by Albrecht. Had their eponymous ale. Apparently was in the first ever 1974 Good Beer Guide. Small car park and smoking area to the rear. Albrecht just offered free cheeseboard on this Thursday. Butties only £2.50. Has accessible toilet.

Came here for flat ciders, they had 4 on. Friendly staff, nice looking pub. Free fast wi-fi.

Lovely pub, good pint! Nice staff, cosy pub, clean. Can also watch sports here and get a nice cob if hungry.

The Royal Oak is a traditional pub that has a wide range of beers, larger and cider, including cask conditioned real ales, which were in excellent condition when i visited. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is an outside seating area behind the pub.

Visited The Royal Oak on Sunday 04 August 2024 for a drink after noticing this Black Country Ales real ale pub was getting good ratings on Camra ( Campaign for Real Ale ) What Pub site . We were pleasantly surprised to find it was being run by Josh - a friendly barman who used to work at The Anvil in Shifnal . He is temporarily running The Royal Oak with a possibility of him taking it over . The Royal Oak is located on a main road in Coton Hill . It has a VERY SMALL ( 4 spaces !) car park at the rear - accessed by a narrow lane on the left of the building. The Royal Oak has a small astro turf 'lawn' on part of the car park with two tables and sun umbrellas. A small covered wooden seating area is also located by the rear door . On entering a large 'L' shaped room with a bar on the left you are faced with a spacious area with plenty of seating . A group of customers were in the bay window area at the front watching sports on the fixed TV . There is a second space through a door on the far left served by the same bar . We went to that area to discuss some private family things with our son . Once the door was closed we were very quiet and were able to easily able to talk quietly withþ our son. The Royal Oak appears to be a good sized pub but on a tight space . The quality of the real ale was very good and hopefully it will continue to do well in the future .

A well kept pub just a short walk out of town. There's a small beer garden and car park at the rear to enjoy you Black Country Ale in the sunshine.

If you like real ale, you can't go wrong with a Black Country Ales pub. At least 10 real ales, 3 BCA House beers and 7 guest ales. Always nice Cobs and friendly atmosphere

Excellent experience. Friendly staff. Within a ten minute walk I to the town centre.

A comfortable local. Usual selection of beers from the Black Country Brewery plus regular guests. A choice of ciders normally on also. Beers kept well, so always thinking about more than one. Banter can be a bit "earthy" at times, and the screens may be found intrusive, but there is a separate area if not to your liking. It would be great if it became managed by one person for many years.

A nice little pub on the way out of town. Country pub feel to the place. Really friendly staff, great beer selection, decent bar snacks. Comfortable chairs.

A lovely old fashioned pub. Very welcoming. Good choice of ales. Lovely cheese and onion rolls! The only downside was the lack of parking.

What a great place, staff are amazing, the rooms are good, bed comfy and it's close to everything.

Warm and comfortable with a great selection of Ales, from light Hoppy to a dark Mild. It's definitely worth a visit.

We always call for a drink if we are staying in Shrewsbury, Just up the road from the showground. Friendly pub,good beer, really enjoy our visits.

Nice little area to take the dog whole having a pint. Bowl of water provided and doggy biscuit too, plenty of shade . Prices are very reasonable. Great rolls/ cobs available for about £2 , staff very welcoming

Lovely place full of character..good menu good food

Stopped in past for a cool drink on way home from town. Was made to feel very welcome. A bowl of water was also provided for our dog. Staff and customers friendly and spoke to us. Will definitely be back.
