Nice that the Dicky has remained open. Just hope it stays open. A pub for me is the ale first. Greene King beer to me is about as bad as it gets. GK IPA is probably the worst IPA that there is. While I can't knock Abbott Ale as a brew too much it's not a session beer and there are much better local brews to choose from brewed with enthusiasm at proper little breweries, rather than what looks like a chemical process plant in Bury St Edmunds. Sorry if this offends, but it's how I see it.

Absolutely superb pub, very welcoming, extremely clean. Lovely pint of Guinness, big garden and warm roaring fire. Loved the atmosphere too. Would definitely come again.

The Dicky is under new management. Well kept, hand pulled cask ale is available along with a selection of draft beer and cider, wines and soft drinks. The pub itself has been given a new lease of life, redecorated and is introducing regular events, such as an open mic and quiz night. Although not currently offering food, once works have been completed a menu will be put in place.

Great atmosphere at the reopening. Amazing what you can do with a lick of paint and fresh cut flowers! Excited to see where the new landlord takes the pub :) I don't drink alcohol so can't comment on the beer, but most people appeared to be enjoying it. I had an alcohol free ghost ship.

I have never been looked at like I was 'intruding' or not wanted at any establishment, until the afternoon I stopped in to see if lunch was being served. Not a good way to run a business and survive after two years of utter economic chaos.

We would like to review the food , but after calling on a Sunday morning to see if there was a table free, we were greeted with the most abrupt and rude female staff member. She very matter of factly snapped that they weren’t doing Sunday Roast. We said ok thanks and she put the phone down without another word. There’s a lot of competition out there for food and jobs. If you don’t want to work in a pub then get another job. If the pub wants to survive then get someone else to answer the phone. We won’t be back.

Must have been a bad night. 2 chosen items from their small main menu not available, at 19.15 on a Friday evening. Otherwise food ok, but certainly not special. Service seemed confused about availability of menu items. Will not return.

Wasn't sure what to expect last time we went in there we were glared at had a frosty reception, rude and felt extremely unwelcome to the point of feeling you were a nuisance l haven't a clue what there problem was. I'm glad to say that with new owners they are the complete opposite.we had a nice relaxing time there after a long walk . I hope they get the custom they need and make a go of it we are loosing to many of our country pubs. I understand they have function's there and live bands

I just want to say, the publican (Holly) is lovely, and many other helpers around the bar also provide a great day (and are also extremely nice). The food is simple, tasty and top tier, especially the cheese boards and cheesy chips (yes, we love cheese). And most of all, all of the great beers are served here. Need I say more?

A really lovely, friendly local pub. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the owners are friendly and chatty too! The pub looks great, very clean but also keeps a traditional pub look! The cheese and meat board was superb, the ales, spirits, and ciders were also great (recommend the Victoria bitter if you prefer flatter beers) and we especially loved the cosey, separated room complete with a table and open log fire that we were allowed to use for a family get together. The addition of a bar cut-out allowing the bartender to server you whilst in the cosey was a charming touch too:) I've heard there's local produce available sometimes as well as pizza and quiz nights. I really hope the dickie continues to gets lots of well deserved business as it really is a local gem. Glad to see it's still around after all these years.

A lovely pub that’s been renovated by the new Owners. Incredibly busy ( a good problem For a newly reopened pub). It’s great to see this pub brought back to life and doing well, just bare with the wait (occasionally). The food menu is simple but great and well priced. All in all, a lively place to visit for a beer, Gin, Wine (all good selections) and some afternoon food.

The food was delicious and everyone at the table recommended it! However the service was poor. We had to wait quite a long while after seating to be asked for drinks. We ordered food at the same time. Our drinks arrived after the food. We ordered second drinks after main, they arrived after the desert. Both times the drinks order was wrong. One side order was never brought.

It amazes me how this bar has a decent rating, well, they must be from friends of the bar. The bar is only open part time, and why is that? Because the only people it attracts is the local druggies and lowlifes. You won’t find anyone with any kind of standards drinking here, and trust me, you’ll be surrounded by 16 to 25 year olds. It seems the Ark is happy with this clientele, as the majority of Brantham know it’s known for this kind of thing. This “bar” is a failing business and will continue to be, unless it actually makes the effort with attracting the right customers who will make others comfortable drinking there. This bar is bad news and I would avoid. I have lived in the village for a long time and it’s such a shame, but you hear all kinds of rumours about it. Every time I drive past it seems it’s never open. If you prefer somewhere a little more classy then try the Brantham bull. The Brantham bull makes effort to provide a service for the elderly and actually wants to succeed.
