Lovely little stop off before the fireworks. Warm, welcoming and food was great. Large portions and tasty Thanks for a nice time. Will be back at least for next years fireworks !

GREAT, We just wanted a pub lunch so popped in as we passed by. we were easily parked and even though they were expecting guests later, they sat us down and served us LIke we'd reserved the table. The food was hot and lovely with the right service all through our time there. They're even investing In the building at the moment but they didn't skip a beat. Thank you.

Something about places called the oak... i ended up here for lunch today with my parter and it was lovely. Not too far from home either, so ill definitely be back again soon. The staff were happy, and the atmosphere was relaxed and calm. The food was a good standard. Definitely worth stopping by.

The roast dinner was completely underwhelming. My partners chicken was dry and tasteless, the roast potato's were extremely overcooked and unable to cut. Service was rude. If your looking for a good Sunday roast. Don't go to the Royal Oak

Found this little pub by accident. The garden is absolutely lovely, the little booths and the chairs alongside the fields to enjoy the spectacular view are a great touch. The food, was amazing, home cooked, perfect and delicious. If I have a criticism it is that I would not frequent the pub in winter. Inside has obviously , been refurbished recently, it's clean and fresh, but has no 'pub' atmosphere, it looks and feels more like a cafe than a pub. Outside, however is 5* and will definitely be on our list of fair weather pubs to visit.

Remains a lovely pub, now has a path from Maldon through Handley Gardens. Good selection of 3 real ales including a WHARF (former red fox) beer, well kept

Lovely country pub with reasonably priced beers. The staff was super friendly and gave us loads of good local recommendations for walks and things to do in the area. The roast lunch was affordable but not to our taste. The chicken was chewy and the veggies were boiled and bland. Would go back again for a drink !

We had a brilliant evening with family. The drinks went down very well. We had a bite to eat and sat in the spacious garden and watched the sunset. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.

The house burger is a sight to behold. And tastes good too

Excellent food ... best Sunday lunch for some time. Pink succulent beef, and more vegetables than we were able to accommodate. Really reasonable prices (wine included) and friendly attentive service. Road noise was a distraction ( doors were open as 30c outside). Most enjoyable visit.

What a great find, we had Sunday roast the food was fantastic and reasonably price, staff really friendly the place is spotlessly clean and they serve a nice pint of Guinness.

Carol laid on refreshments for us after a funeral and she could not have been more helpful. Spread was lovely and Grandma would in particular have loved the home made sponge cakes!

Sunday Lunch at the Royal Oak was really nice. The prices are reasonable and the food quality was really good. Staff were nice and friendly too. The sunday menu is limited, but personally I like that, as it makes it quick and easy to decide and we did go for a Sunday roast, so lamb, beef etc is what we we're looking for.

Stayed in the car park over night in our motorhome.unfortunatly they weren't cooking.but the visiting pizza van was in the car park which was excellent.the host was very friendly and helpful.and so we're his costumers.thank you.

We moved to the Handley Gardens estate about 18 months ago and The Royal Oak has now become our local. Kim, Carol and Tasha are amazing! We are yet to eat but it’s always a good and friendly atmosphere and as for the view - wow!

popped in with my wife on a Wednesday evening looking for a place to hold a future family do. a darts game was going on when a man in a Tottenham jacket began to spout foul mouthed and extremely racist language. This was directly in front of the landlord who neither did nor said anything. my wife and i left immediately and will certainly never return.

Came across this delightful pub whilst out with my friend househunting!! So charming, fabulous food, welcoming, helpful staff, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, amazing garden and the views!! Just gorgeous!!

First visit as a family. Truly hidden Gem. So welcoming great food, beautiful gardens impressed with the "Hubs" Host Carol so very pleasant. Nice not to be bombarded with loud music could actually talk to each other. A must to revist.

Lovely community pub with great landlords who are always there for your needs ,be it food ,drink or a friendly chat. Probably the best well kept garden in the Maldon district ,safe for children and very pro doggy.

Lovely staff at the bar. Recommended my friend a beer which he really enjoyed. Came in for a bite to eat and the food is incredible. Lovely chips, crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. Cowboy burger is HUGE, amazing meat, great flavors. Can't complain.

Driving from Burnham yesterday, we were looking for a pub lunch at about 13:30 when we passed this pub which had a welcome board outside detailing when food wold be available. This clearly stated that on Saturdays and Sundays food was available from 12 noon. A small hand-written note pinned to the door stated “Sorry no food today” that we didn’t find until we had parked up. This was disappointing to say the least, particularly in view of the claims we have since found on the net.

A great, welcoming old pub. I took a group from the Royal Naval Association Rayleigh branch there for a meal and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it.

after a draughty walk around nearby Wallasea Island this pub provided an ideal lunch stop. warm and cosy with friendly staff there's a traditional feel to the atmosphere and the extensive hearty menu. the prices are very reasonable and the portions on the large side. a good range of beers if that's what takes your fancy and desserts to die for. including bananna fritters and berry sundae. would def recommend.

My favourite coffee place in the week, great staff, but sadly too long await on weekends when you only want coffee and cake.

Went for a private bbq with family found it a lovely pub ,food was plentyful and really good plus bar prices very reasonable , would recomend .

Thought we would try this place and we wasn’t disappointed. My husband and my son and myself all had something different. All meals were very nice particularly the very unusual onion rings.Nice atmosphere and good service. Will definitely be returning.

Doesn't loook much from the outside but this is a nice friendly pub with good beer and good pub grub. The garden is nice to sit out in and a high hedge helps to reduce the road traffic noise. It looks like they have a nice area for children to play.

Went with my husband, daughter and two grandchildren on the off chance that they were still doing food. We sat in the garden which was brilliant for the boys aged 5 & 2, with a play house and swings. The food was excellent and the presentation was very good. Would definitely recommend, in fact I am just about to book again for tomorrow x

This is a lovley place to eat the inside is snug and inviting and Kim the landlord is very welcoming and informative. As the weather was good we chose to eat outside in the nice garden area. There is a good choice on the menu and all freshly cooked, well presented and hot when it was brought to our table. I would highly recommend The Royal Oak to any one.

Not expensive but good food and nice staff

Spotless. The food is excellent value and the beer is well kept. Staff are helpful and attentive without being overpowering. A quiet country pub but deserves to be much busier. Shame it requires a drive to get there, I wish it was on my street.
