Booked a twin room for two nights. Excellent value for me and my son, £120. The facilities and room was spotless, with plenty of soap and shampoo. There is a free car park opposite as there is no parking on site. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the ale on offer is well priced and delicious. The A1M is 5 minutes away, with Harrogate around 20 minutes drive.

I was travelling to a course and needed a place to stay the night before. This was great, the staff were friendly, the premises was lean and welcoming and the room was big enough for three. Only down side was that they did not do food but the chippy next door sorted that.

I stayed for 5 nights. Saw there were some mixed reviews, so didn't quite know what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised and it turned out to be just what I needed. I know Wetherby and chose the Royal Oak for its location. I didn't have a car and it's easy to get to Leeds and Harrogate on the bus. The room was quiet and spacious with plenty of light and private shower room. Soap, shower gel and shampoo provided. Bed was comfortable enough. I particularly appreciated the fact that there was a kettle, crockery & cutlery, tea, coffee, milk & sugar. On the down side: couldn't regulate the heating so sometimes had to open the window, Wifi worked but signal was weak in the room. TV wasn't working very well but was told this would be fixed. Cleanliness - room for a bit of improvement in the bathroom. Pub's rubbish dump at side of building a bit of an eyesore... Only went to the Pub downstairs once which seemed quite cosy and friendly. All in all, excellent location and value and would return.

Came into bar so girlfriend could use the toilet. Sign on the door said only customers can use the toilet. Went to bar to buy £2.50 half pint of coke to use the toilet. Lady behind the bar poured drink. Didnt have cash, tried to pay on card. She said i had to buy a full pint to pay on card. Refused to pay for a full pint. Walk to the door to leave. Woman came over grabbed me by the hoody and dragged me behind the bar until i had paid. Wouldnt go here again. Filed a report with local police. Unacceptable behaviour.

AVOID like the plague!! Lady working behind the bar assaulted and held my friend captive behind the bar and extorted money from him. He bought a drink whilst his girlfriend used the toilet however they would not let him pay £2.50 on card; that was his only form of payment. Sickening behaviour over a 2.50 drink he did not even consume, got dragged by his neck and held with force behind the bar. WOULD NEVER RETURN!! Reported to the police.

Room was brilliant, much better than expected and bed was comfy. Price was amazing for somewhere to stay for the night. Checking out was…strange. Sunday morning trying to check out and the pub is locked and we cannot get out or hand out key back in, no sign of anyone and ringing the number was directly for the pub so that was no help. Ended up using a fire door and left the key on the side as we went out. I sent an email as we had no idea how to get out and I’ve still had to reply 3 days later. Don’t think it’s really professional to not give people staying any information on the check out process or even be on the premises for check out.

This place is not the Savoy, but what The Royal Oak is, is incredible value for money, run and staffed by genuine, lovely people and very friendly clientele. You don't get a chocolate on your pillow or big fluffy white towels but you are left wanting for nothing else (you are provided with towels, obviously). Great beer in the bar, clean and well equipped rooms and even plates and cutlery should you wish to bring a takeaway back to your room. Great chippy next door (more lovely people), a tasty Indian restaurant just a short walk away. Brilliant location for visiting York or Leeds, although Wetherby also has a lot to offer. I've stayed here a few times on business and will continue, let's support these small independents who do appreciate the custom. Did I say they do Great beer?

The room we stayed in for 1 night (room 3) was so reasonably priced and we were both surprised at what we got for our money. It was clean, tidy and had comfortable beds. We had plenty of tea and coffee in the room , and soap, shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom. I can't fault anything. It didn't do food, but lots of cafes nearby. I will be coming back again when I next need to stay in Wetherby. Thank you Royal Oak. !

Booked for B/B through Agoda, the cost for this booking was taken days before the cancellation date, rather then paying on the day, on arrival we were informed that breakfast was not included, even though the ad stated breakfast. There was no teabags or milk in our room, for a hot drink only coffee and sugar, there was nobody about to ask for the missing items as it was 6.30am when we realised, so just left in disgust at the whole experience, the pictures that are shown on the advert look better then the room when had, which had old furniture and the carpets needed a good clean. Very disappointing experience.

The lady behind the bar is an absolute disgrace. She is Rude and ignorant and really should re-think her career choice to mabey stacking shelves or watching paint dry, ANTYTHING that doesn’t require interacting with other humans! The last time I checked you went to public house to be greeted with friendly warm staff and receive excellent customer service! Word of warning, choose another pub, there are plenty in wetherby, so avoid this one like the plague. Don’t think the lady that works there likes new customers or god forbid you play pool on the pool table provided! It’s the 2nd time we have been and it will definitely be the last!

Friendly old fashioned pub. Unfortunately they put man’s football on, (will they show the women’s world cup next month I wonder?), very loudly. No warning sign to say that our drinks would be dominated by such a dim. 1 bottle of wine with no cooler (so got warm quickly) plus an orange juice and half a diet coke came to £17 which was your usual expensive Wetherby price. I was a bit disappointed by the overall experience - but it’s not far from the Park so maybe see if they have something a bit better value for money? I did like the fact it was dog friendly and children were welcome though

I live in Leeds and arranged to meet some friends from the North East for lunch at the Royal Oak last Thursday based on their effusive website description and interesting menu. When we arrived we were informed they don't do lunches mid week!! Very embarrassing for me as I had organised the venue and also inconvenient as we then had to find an alternative at short notice.Luckily Wetherby has numerous options and we did not go hungry. The point is that destinations should keep their website information current and accurate.

We didn't have the best welcome as the young man behind the bar was obviously doing his first shift - there was no welcome, he had no idea of what was for sale, whether they were serving meals and no urgency in anything. I hope he has settled in rather better by now! What was more disappointing was that the landlord was standing at the end of the bar but made no effort to save the occasion. No matter, we were hungry and the pub conveniently located opposite a free car park.Turning away from the bar we noticed that the pub itself has clearly seen better days and is in need of a good clean and tidy up - repairs to fabrics etc and we wondered just what we'd let ourselves in for. Having said that, the food was quite good (enjoyed my Apple & Black Pudding Stack) and came quickly via the landlord.A visit to the loos indicated another area where refurbishment would be welcome!I'm sure the kitchens are in fact clean, but when the public areas are poorly presented, it doesn't create the best of impressions.

A quiet evening meal for my daughters birthday. Honestly probably the worst meal out we've ever had. Waited over an hour for our main courses, one was completely wrong (which nobody admitted and the birthday girl waited another 10 minutes for the right meal to arrive), the vegan lasagne was cold and the steak pie incredibly dry as it had clearly been waiting for some time. The lasagne was sent back to "get another one" and came back rock hard!! Clearly it had been microwaved, even though we were assured not, it was obvious! Most of the staff were lovely and very apologetic, they did recompense us, but really I'd rather have had a lovely meal and paid for all of it. Definitely won't be back, even if it was just a bad day, it wasn't just one thing that wasn't right.

Just enjoyed a Christmas meal here with 16 friends from my walking group. The food was excellent and really good value. The staff were friendly and very efficient, and coped well with the gluten free and dairy free requests. The conservatory is a bright, pleasant area to eat in, with lovely long distant views. I've also enjoyed plenty of Sunday roasts here, and will be back.
