The opening hours listed on TripAdvisor are incorrect and no hours are listed on the hotel website. This restaurant does not open Monday - Wednesday. Food is available in the bar but my other half has been standing at the empty counter waiting to order for about ten minutes now and as we've just bought drinks and said we'd be right back for food, not looking good.

Had a lovely meal out at the Royal Hotel in Keith on Saturday evening. The choice of starters and main courses were excellent. I had the haggis bon bons followed by a rip eye steak, both lovely, my wife had the Cullen skink followed by chicken fillets once again lovely. The Cullen skink was a meal in itself, she just about managed it along with her chicken fillets. Really enjoyable evening and the staff were great, helpful and considerate. Will definitely be back, but won't leave it so long until next time.

We visited for the first time for Sunday dinner. We were shown to a nice lounge with couches where we were offered drinks while looking at the menu. There was a great selection on the regular and a sunday special menu. Two of us chose the roast beef and one chose the burger. We were taken through to the dining room and our food was served promptly. The roast beef was delicious and accompanied by a selection of piping hot fresh veg and also a dish of broccoli and cauliflower in cheese sauce. It was topped of with a fluffy crispy yorkshire pudding. The gravy was generous and tasted amazing. Probably the best roast dinner I've had! Our waitress was very polite and efficient.

No hesitation in recommending the Cooperage. A party of eight of us had a main course and drinks, before attending a further booked function in Keith. I had the Royal Highland 10 Oz sirloin steak with two big haggis slices, whisky sauce, tasty veggies & hand cooked chips. To say it was mouthwateringly scrumptious is an understatement. Best steak I have had in a long long time, and a more than ample portion. The waitresses were very friendly, polite and efficient, full marks to them. A big plus with me is when staff come and ask if everything is okay, and if we want anything else. They did that in a pleasant manner. Well done and I hope to frequent again sooner rather than later.

Haggis Burger big portion but personally this is where I reduced points. The meat in my had parts that tasted bad.So I left pieces. But overall serving was Quick and good.As an tour guide you sometimes has to let the group happieness come first.Leave your own prefference out.Ordering your drinks was at the bar and paying in advance. Ok, but why not take the food payment at once.We had to go back for that.Small Tiny details but markable.Overall the best stop we could have at the moment. The place was super scottish/brithish.Pub in the groundfloor, restaurant upstears. And hotel in the house.

We decided go upstairs to the dining room to eat rather than eat in the bar. The menu is mostly good, solid pub grub type and was fine. There were obviously a lot of customers, however the service was ridiculously slow. At one point, 2 of the 4 of us had our plates cleared and we asked for dessert menus. When in Aberdeenshire staying with family we often get together with folk for tea one night. In November it was decided we'd go to the Royal in Keith. We certainly weren't disappointed. There was eight of us in total with everyone selecting off the menus, I'd say there is something for everyone. I had fish cakes followed by grilled sea bass finishing of with custard cream cheesecake. The starters came out, mine was certainly hot and very delicious. The sea bass which was with crushed tatties and veg was very good and I'd soon go back for another. I love cheesecakes and waited to see how a custard cream cheesecake would be, it really was lovely.I thought the portion sizes were ideal, service good and good value for money. The waiting staff asked if we wanted more drinks throughout the meal which was good as we didn't have to keep asking.Over all I'd quite happily wait to go out for tea till the next time in Aberdeenshire.

We ate here for lunch. Waitress brought us a menu and on it we saw certain dishes marked '2 for 1 .' We thoughts this was a good deal so we ordered2 of the same meals marked as this deal . When the bill came we were charged for 2 full price dishes. When I Questioned this we were told you had to have a starter or a pudding with the main course to get the deal and you got the price of the starter or pudding taken off. Not exactly '2 for 1' ,and really a con as it did not explain that on the menu and neither did the waitress.Food was average and Childs meals overpriced at 4.99, as just processed chicken fillets ,sausage etcDouble doors at entrance , but only one in use ,the one with a ramp behind it it was locked-not much use for wheel chair users or people with a Childs buggy like us.

On visiting Keith, late reservation made, family birthday dinner, 3 courses each and vino all round, busy hotel all geared up for Saturday night. Soup, broccoli and stilton...exceptional, and pate starters, mains rib eyes x 2 one blue, one medium and a fish dish. Steak cooked bang on, my only reservation, (and a PERSONAL ONE AT THAT, less chips and onion rings, good though they were, and maybe some steamed veggies on the side for me. This did not detract from the excellent fare in any way. Really I should have asked).Fish very good too. Cranachan and sticky toffee puds for afters. Thanx guys we really enjoyed. I haven't been in the Royal for grub for 15 years after we had a faulty towers style xmas dinner with family, and thankfully changes of ownership, image and chef has made this a definite stop and we'll definitely be back! The only thing spoiling the Keith experience as usual was the night-time child racers who seemingly get free petrol from mummy and daddy to endlessly circle the town at night. We nearly got run over outside the hotel by some wee teens(hats on back-to-front kevin and perry style) in kiddies cars, lime green focus and a blacked out saxo, both kiddies cars with dustbins for exhausts hanging out the back travelling at speed in the town, noise level and speed at least double the legal limit, turning the corner at the royal racing up the Banff road and cutting off up to Broomhill Court to donut the roundabout most likely. Police, Council, VOSA, Insurance ombudsman, residents and a mobile car crusher need to get together to rid this nice wee town of this nuisance. I'm sure I saw one come off the ground on the speed bumps on mid street! Sorry to "Royal" staff for mentioning above the child racers, this has nothing to do with the hotel in any way, our evening with you was great, marred by the usual blight on Keith's night out.

Arrived for lunch.Ordered chicken fillets - previously exceptional. Excellent size of portion of chicken - 3 large fillets. Sadly came out soaking with oil, chips were also soaked and full of oil. If restaurants are unable to cook something as basic as chips they should be querying the worth of the chef. I assume if the oil was hotter and everything was given a chance to drain before serving it would be better.

We were just wrapping up our late afternoon tour of Huntly Castle in Huntly and thought we might find a restaurant there. When we asked a local, he said to go to Keith and dine at The Royal Hotel. When we got there, we had no idea what to expect. The hotel and restaurant, clearly, have been around for a long time. We started off with a drink in the small bar upstairs. But when we entered the restaurant's dining room we were very encouraged. Each seating had a full place setting with beautiful tablecloths and cloth napkins - very nice. We ordered our meal and have to say, it was one of the finest we had during our two week trip through Scotland. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a truly delicious meal and most satisfying evening. I had the lamb shank and it was certainly one of the best dishes I have ever eaten - totally amazing and reasonably priced. The staff were also fabulous - very attentive but comfortably so.

I called few days in advance and booked for our group, and was assured all will be set up. I even called again to ensure there may be room for one more possible addition to our party. Imagine my surprise when I showed up to the bar restaurant to only see 2 free tables of 4 free, the clueless young lady (who got progressively more clueless as the lunch progressed), had absolutely no idea about the booking. I could have made a mistake, as I specifically asked for bar section, and the upstairs restaurant was closed that day in any event. The waitress did not offer to host us in any possible way, we shuffled chairs from other tables ourselves and huddled around corner seatee. Amongst other things, we ordered 4 Royal Burgers, 15min later the girl shows up to tell us there are only 3. Why at lunch time, a signature dish of the pub has only 3 burgers?? Things got more even more bizarre from there, none of us liked our meat well done, we asked if our burgers could be medium or medium rare. The girl came back from the kitchen to say they can only do well done because "they are scared about bacteria in the meat", and I quote. So the only way the burger could be offered could be being cooked to death - and it was. Had it not been after 2.30pm by this time, and this town had more places to eat, we would have turned around and walked out.Considering the reviews for this place, including on TA, I was extremely disappointed, including hopeless service, asking for drinks, straws, ice, everything half dozen times. the bar and surrounds were dirty, full of some weird makeshift furniture and trestle table tops leaned against the walls, no ambience to speak of. If this is the best place in Keith for food, then I feel sorry for its residents. My advice, if like us, you are visiting wonderful Strathisla distillery, bring a packed lunch.

We regularly visit the upstairs restaurant, which is always very busy Fri-Sun, so would recommend you ring ahead. Disappointingly the only seem to serve till 8pm in the evening despite the likely demand. The food here is always very nice, fresh ingredients, and despite a small main menu, there is always a specials menu. I can recommend the Steak whole wholehearted! The standard of food is fantastic.Unfortunately the service is often a little slow, and hence not a five star review. Young waitresses are often overworked and perhaps under-trained. But overall a very positive experience, and one of the best steaks in Moray I would argue!

We stayed here for one night and that was enough. Once we were shown to our room i went to use the toilet and to my surprise there was a poop in the toilet. Don't mind if the cleaner has missed a bit when cleaning but to be welcomed by that at the bottom of the toilet is not nice. We then went to get some food from the restaurant where we were told that they were fully booked and that we could not eat there, when i asked the waitress about tables for hotel guest the waitress just walked away with no explanation. After speaking to the nice lady at reception we finally got a table in another part of the hotel. Value for money was poor as our hotel room was dated, the only good thing about our experience at this hotel was the food. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone and will definitely not be staying there again.

Fresh, hot, beautifully presented...and plenty of it! I had the fish and it was delicious. Liked how we were seated in comfy leather chairs, our order taken and then shown to our table to be served.

As someone one else has pointed out, it’s now called the Spey Inn. Was there earlier this week for lunch as in area and parents recommended it from a visit a year or so ago. It was quiet but we got a friendly welcome from the two members of staff. My parents commented on the size of the menu which has apparently changed and did seemed limited in choices. 3 of us ordered the Cullen Skink soup. It tasted fine but not much fish ands lots of potatoes. Three of us then had sandwiches, the Club sandwich was very good, well filled with bacon, tomato etc and was tasty. Me and my mum both had the egg mayonnaise sandwich. It looked different in that it was 2 whole slices of toast which I thought may have been included in the description. That said I can live with this, however what was very unusual and disappointing was the quantity of filling in these two sandwiches. It appeared that there was a smear of egg mayo as in the quantity of butter you would spread on a slice of bread (and in this case it was spread onto 2 slices of thick toast). Without exaggerating it appeared that 1 egg had been used to fill 2 sandwiches . The salad that accompanied it was nice and the fish and chips the other member of our group had was apparently good. We did mention it to the server who said he’d mention our views to the chef, but it just seemed odd. We also mentioned to a member of staff at an early stage of our visit, that there was no soap in the gents toilets (you could clearly see the soap dispenser was empty when you walked in), however when leaving some time later this had not been rectified, despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. It wasn’t a cheap lunch and it was fairly disappointing overall. Unless this was a one off, don’t think I would return.

Today I used my Brodie gift voucher for Afternoon Tea. My husband and I enjoyed the tastiest freshly made sandwiches, quiche, sausage roll and a variety of sweet treats. Although busy the staff were pleasant and helpful.
