Finished up here after walking the Cotswold Way. We fancied a bit of glamour at the end. Great location ideal for onward trains or coaches. Staff were excellent, especially the receptionist who warmly treated us and helped us throughout our stay. Couldn't fault the service throughout, and the food was excellent. The building itself.. fair to say it's probably had its best years. Internally, it's a little tired and could do with some tlc to bring the magic back.

We stayed here for three nights in late April. Communication with the hotel was excellent; I changed the booking three times, ultimately booking through their website and saving a good bit of money, as well as getting free breakfast. The service was excellent during our stay. The room was small, but adequate for a couple, and absolutely spotless. The bedding, towels and robes were soft and luxurious. Breakfast was a delight, served in a beautiful room and very tasty - choice of a cooked entree plus a very nice selection of pastries, yogurts, etc. We booked dinner in the hotel restaurant one night; it was good but nothing to get excited about. Location was perfect for a couple traveling by bus and train; almost on top of the train station, and about a 5 minute walk to most of the tourist sights. Yes, everything was dated, as some reviewers have said, but in kind of a good way - hearkening to a bygone era. We would definitely stay here again.

On arrival, the receptionist was lovely and very helpful, particularly with parking. While we understood the hotel is old, the top end room floor level had a drop of around 15 making sleeping with our legs higher than our heads not the best. The outfitting of our room was rather unloved, with lamp shades on a slop etc. Overall our stay was OK.

The hotel has an excellent location, right across from the Bath train and bus station and just a few blocks from the Roman Baths. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The breakfast is abundant and very rich, English style, with fresh products. There is also a continental buffet that can be accessed. The room we had was spacious and pleasant. Our only observation has to do with the bath water. It was necessary to flush the toilet many times to get it to work, and sometimes the water temperature in the shower was too low. Otherwise, we had a very pleasant stay and recommend the hotel.

We recently stayed at the Royal Hotel in Bath on an excellent deal and enjoyed our stay very much. All the staff from reception, bar staff and Brasserie staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely with some extra little touches, including ground coffee. The food was excellent so thanks to all the kitchen staff also. Our stay was from 26th to the 28th March. Special thanks to the female receptionist on check in and the male receptionist on departure. Highly recommend this hotel.

Hi I have just dined at this hotal at 6pm and bought some dinner . I was surprised and disappointed when I paid for a shepherds pie at £16 it was crispy overcooked and salty ,the portions were small and child size and the kale was very small and there were no other side vegetables .I recommend you do not go there for dinner . I hope the staff take note of these comments and alter their meal sizes or reduce their prices. Thanks

Lovely hotel. The front desk people were very helpful for this first time visitor to Bath. The rooms were good sized for two people with large suitcases. The tub made for excellent baths. Breakfast in the attached restaurant was also very good. If you're staying in Bath, you should stay in this lovely historic hotel! Out of town drivers, beware: they do mention a small car park for use and they're right - it's very small. About 4 cars worth. That's ok though, there are several large car parks within easy walking distance. Additionally, the train station is literally across the road from the hotel making travel even easier.

Great location for a hotel in Bath, directly opposite the train station and only a couple of minutes walk into the city centre. The staff were amazing and very friendly throughout our 2 night stay on a Spa break. We ate in the restaurant on the first night, and the food was lovely and the service was great. Only downside is with the room, which, although it was lovely, due to the nature of the old building, it was very noisy. You can hear every footstep and toilet flush of the room above, which isn't the best for a relaxing stay. Also, being next to the train station increases the noise due to the single glazed windows facing onto the street. While I realise these are not the fault of the hotel, it definitely had an impact on our stay, hence the 4 star review.

Just come back from a 4 night stay with my beautiful fiancé and couldn’t have asked for a better hotel, it was a really lovely stay thank you!! Worth every single penny and so much more ❤️❤️ Here’s a few things: * Every single one of the staff were so LOVELY and so kind and welcoming, they genuinely cared about you and your day. * We kept a do not disturb sign on the door so they left care packages outside of our door in a bag including water, milk, toilet roll, more coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and biscuits etc * Breakfast was beautiful, amazinggg service and had a menu and a buffet bar. It was really really good and we felt like royalty * Room was LOVELY it was very old fashioned. It was a big room, very clean, very very cosy. It’s individually decorated and not something you’d have in a premier inn etc, it was really nice. * The shower was the best shower ive had in my whole life the bathroom was lovely too * Had a nice bar downstairs * Comfiest pillows everrr omg!! Such a comfy bed * It’s quiet, we didnt hear any noises all night. We didn’t even hear any trains or anything. * Best part is that it’s close to everything. Everything you could ever need is within a couple minutes walk and the hotel itself is across the road from the railway station We 199384829% recommend this hotel to stay in. Have no idea what all of the complaints in the other reviews are about, guess they’re just bitter, bored, rich people who expect everything to be perfect. We loved every second we spent there and didnt want to leave, thank you so much!

Still waiting for the people above us to go to sleep so I can sleep too. Squeaky old floors, thin walls, no wardrobes in the room. We took one of the most expensive rooms in the hotel. Morning update: breakfast up the review to 3 stars.

Good option for staying in Bath. EXCELLENT location literally across the street from the train station, and very helpful and friendly staff. Love the teas and biscuits included in the room as well, and was kept very clean. My only comment is that (likely due to the age of the building) the room itself got very damp and humid, with visible water and condensation on the windows at almost all times. The heated towel rack helps for drying things, but can't help but feel a portable dehumidifier for the rooms might be in order and make this a truly perfect experience.

This is my second visit. I love it here. The staff are welcoming, friendly nothing is to much trouble, they work really hard . The breakfast was the best, freshly cooked and really nicely presented. The room was comfortable and had a great night's sleep. Did not eat in the restaurant unfortunately as fullybooked. Had a snack lunchtime, toasted sandwich, made with really nice proper bread, and proper tasty ham and cheese 👍. Thank you Royal Hotel👍

Had a very pleasant 2 night stay at The Royal Hotel for our city getaway. Very conveniently located and literally across the road from the train station. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming our whole stay, always greeting us as we passed the reception. We booked a classic superior double, when we first arrived I was a little underwhelmed with the room as it looks different from the classic superior room on the website, however it was a lovely cosy room to come back to and we became fond of it by the time of departure. We were warned of hot water issues and encouraged to report back to reception if we had any issues, but the hot water worked fine for us when used. The room felt and looked clean. We found coffee stains on one of the white robes which wasn’t nice to find. We were also very grateful for the fan which was included in the room as it was quite hot overnight! The building is very old and quirky and has its charm, but feels a bit tired. I would definitely do a short stay here again in future. It was very pleasant!

My husband and I had a lovely break at The Royal Hotel celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The staff are so friendly and professional and we were made very welcome. We enjoyed two nights bed and breakfast and two evening meals and all food was amazing, including the champagne cream tea on our arrival. Thank you to all the staff working in the bar, restaurant and reception for making our stay really special and also thank you for the heart of chocolates in our room, such a lovely surprise. The hotel is perfect for exploring the city, and lovely to relax in the evening. Highly recommended. June and Dorian Gaskin

Nice hotel in a historic building. The entire interior breathes English history, starting with the furniture, the bathroom fittings and the wallpaper. Facilities for coffee etc. are lovingly provided in the room. The employees are consistently very friendly. The location opposite the train station also speaks for the hotel. It didn't bother us, but you have to accept a certain amount of noise, both from the street and from the house itself, which is due to its age.

I’ll start with the good bits - location is great, in central Bath opposite station which was my primary reason for choosing it, staff were lovely and pleasant. However, the room was terrible! It was cheap for central Bath at just over £100/night however that does not excuse the condition in which it was offered. If it was £50/night you wouldn’t complain too much. Not possible to plug your phone to charge and have bedside lamp on as plug is a single socket and seemed to be wired into a wall light switch. On the opposite wall there are 6 outlets?! The carpet was frayed and not fastened around edges, the shower had previously failed and there was a bodged peglar valve attached as flow adjustment. The bathroom was incredibly cramped and old with signs of black mould near the ceiling. The radiator had a piece of metal sprained and screwed against the valve and wall to keep it on. Furthermore the windows were obscured and upon opening them I found out why it was a tip at the other side! The room and to some extent the rest of the hotel is old and worn and in need of major repair and restoration. The dining room had water stains on the ceiling ( as did the wall at the side of the bed) and paper had tears and was sagging. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but the proprietor of this building needs to take a good look at what they are offering. Just as a footnote I stayed in a hotel in central London for less money for significantly better conditions. I asked reception to change rooms but they couldn’t accommodate both days I’d booked so stayed put.

Perfect location, cute little historic hotel. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Enjoyed the breakfast in a traditional setting! The only thing I can comment is the water pressure and noise, but hey it's right at the centre of Bath! Price wise it's okay.

The hotel is going through some renovations and we found it generally quite noisy. The room was very clean and staff are very lovely and helpful in all areas and the breakfast is not bad. However the food in the restaurant has a very dated dinner menu, the prawn cocktail which comes warm on a bed of cold lettuce is just weird and I was advised not to order the tuna because it comes well done as its frozen. The steaks also appear to be frozen and de-frosted as I ordered mine rare but it arrived well done. The chef did replace it which took a good 20 minutes but the second one was not really any better and I didn't eat it. The Diane sauce also tasted like corn flour. We had the 'High Tea which comes as part of the spa package and is 2 scones, jam and cream. I had to ask for the advertised champagne which the waitress said was not included until I explained this was advertised on the website. She finally served the two glasses and said 'Sorry, no one has asked for it before!' The hotel is surrounded by 100's of restaurants and so I would suggest not to book in the hotel restaurant until they really improve their offer. The Therma Spa which was part of the package was excellent and I would highly recomend.

Shabby. Paint falling off skirtings and around windows, trip hazard frayed carpet at entrance to bathroom, dirty walls, broken ceiling tiles, and the fire door in the corridor, the one with the please be quiet sign, slammed shut every time it was used, so we we kept awake until the last person came in for the night, and then awoken when the first person went out in the morning. Don't have decaf tea, and only offer instant decaf coffee with breakfast. Suggest use Wetherspoons, next door, for decent drinks, but it looks like Premier block the 'spoons app on their WiFi too.

Visited for a birthday Sunday lunch having been once before and really enjoyed. However this time the experience has left me doubting if I’ll return due to poor service. We booked for 2pm, and on arrival our table was being prepared. 15 mins later though, no one had told us it was ready. Then only given 2/4 menus, no single waitress looking after us so we were constantly forgotten about, plates not cleared after starters, and given we sat at 2:15 we did not got our main until 3:30! Poor comms on why this was the case. Didn’t seem to just be our table either. Food was okay, but not worth that wait. Writing this so that hopefully management will take notice and review service standards. Hopefully this was a blip.
