Five-Star Review: Absolutely love this place! It’s a rare gem. Being dog-friendly is also a massive bonus. Despite the building work causing disruption, the atmosphere inside remains warm, welcoming, and relaxed—thanks in no small part to the fantastic landlord. They have handled a difficult situation with professionalism, grace, and good humor, going above and beyond to make sure everyone still feels right at home. Service is top-notch, the drinks are well-kept, and all areas of the bar are spotless. Massive credit to the manager—your leadership shines through. We’ll definitely keep coming back, and recommending to all our dog-loving friends!

Called in for a birthday celebration, unfortunately the kitchen was closed because of the extensive building work next door which was clearly explained by the staff. We had a great night, friendly locals and the best real ale we've had in years. A great place to visit, ignore the disruption outside and you'll have a brilliant time. Highly recommend. Will be back.

I’m from California and I’ve been experiencing beautiful Pembrokeshire in California like weather for the past week. Anyway, I guess we had more typical welsh weather today so I decided to explore the town of Pembroke. I ended up in a delightful old pub right under Pembroke Castle on the Mill Pond (I learned that it was the second oldest pub in Pembroke). As soon as I entered I could tell it had a great atmosphere, and the friendly bar staff greeted me as soon as I walked up to the bar. They had 3 real ales on tap, and the 2 I tasted were excellent. I guess I was there for over 2 hours in all and had several conversations with locals and tourists alike. Even though they don’t serve food, I would definitely recommend a visit, and it would be even better on a sunny day with outdoor seating looking over the Mill Pond and the majestic castle.

We turned up for lunch a little early on Wednesday of this week, having lunched here on several previous visits and enjoyed our times there. Workmen outside told us The George would be open in five minutes and there was a bold notice outside advertising food between 12 and 3pm. All good then ? So we waited some fifteen minutes and, as the hotel was still closed, and we were both hungry, I prepared to ring the telephone number on the door, with a note saying 'Phil was in the building' - when the landlord suddenly appeared at nearly ten minutes past Mid-day, looking most disheveled and none too welcoming. In fact, he was most offputting and totally unfriendly. When told we had come for lunch, he wasn't doing lunch - despite the notice of food outside. I asked if the hotel on the other side of the bridge served food at lunchtime? 'Probably', was hs curt reply. What a transformation from our previous visits. Quite why any brewery would have such a nice hotel run by such a miserable manager bewilders me? However, whilst he is in charge, I would strongly advise people to cross that bridge to The Watermans. In short, he did us a favour in finding somewhere new and, with a very friendly staff. At the same time, he lost our attraction to the Royal George for all time.

Came here for a meal with family who were visiting, whilst we’ve been a few times for drinks and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere the food was amazing. Can honestly say it’s the best local food we have had in Pembroke! The kitchen staff (apologies can’t remember her name) are a credit, with superbly large portions, home made fresh ingredients and non greasy food, they even had a great gluten free menu option and happily confirmed no cross contamination. Janet was such a happy lady behind the bar and even had treats for our doggy as it’s dog friendly! Overall great value for money and will certainly be returning and recommending to anyone staying in the local area!

Entered to find aged barman with long white hair just leaving the bar he asked "what do you want" drinks and a menu please "in or out" as we couldn't see a beer garden we were confused so said in, we asked about a table we couldn't see a reserved on but he rudely told us it was hence the sign on it which we couldn't see as it was facing the wall. Went to this lovely old pub for dinner for two nights in late August. Had a warm greeting and felt like welcome visitors. The food was traditional home made pub grub which was delicious. The chips were the main delight - chunky and tasty! It would be nice to see more Welsh brewery ales on the beer menu but this was a great place for a real, local welcome. Pubs have had some of the best food we have had here in Wales. And the Royal George did not dissapoint at all. Typical pub atmosphere with locals coming in for a pint, folks joking with others... but the food. It was something special. My wife thought the stroganoff was about the best she has had, my son polished off the curry and wanted more. I had the burger... it was great. It wasn't just a frozen burger thrown on the grill... it was fresh and wonderful. Sticky toffee pudding was absolutely incredible. My son said it was the best he has ever had, my wife and I both agreed the custard was by far the best, and the pudding was a very slight second place... in any case, an absolute winner. I only got one picture. It smelled so good that the family was well into eating before I could even get the camera out. Would definitely return!!!

First visit to your beautiful country and very first pub we visited! Came with three friends because we heard the food was good. It certainly did look good I must say. But the barman's unexpected rudeness bordering on hostility deterred us from staying to sample the food. We worried that we might have given some offence but we couldn't identify anything. He did serve us a good beer to be fair to him. Absolutely loved the look of the pub and it's setting. We are Canadians. And we love the Welsh!!! I just wish we could be sure that we hadn't offended in some way. It troubles me.

We visited this pub last week for lunch. Lovely location - really close to Pembroke Castle and Mill Pond. The highlight for me, dare I say, was their chicken curry. Most delicious of any curries I’ve eaten at a pub/restaurant in a while! I was pleasantly surprised. Just the right blend of flavours, not super spicy, simply divine. We also tried their chilli con carne and fish cakes which were just as delightful. They had a good selection of beers, service was quick and the staff was lovely. Can’t fault them for anything, really :) The pub is also dog-friendly, which was a huge plus and the main reason we initially selected it for lunch as we were travelling with our dog. The lovely man by the bar fussed over our dog and also gave him some dog treats that were gladly received. All in all, I’d highly recommend Royal George if you’re in Pembroke.

Went to walk in holding my little dog in my arms to see if I could be served. I saw the “no dogs sign”, but just wanted to ask as there was nowhere to tie him up outside and I was on my own and hungry. Next minute the member of staff member behind the counter, shouted at me telling me to “get out”, causing all patrons in there to stop and stare. I asked if they could take my order and that he was calm and wouldn’t cause a fuss and again I was shouted at to get out. Awful service.
