The Royal George in Corby

Visited the recently re-opened Royal George in Cottingham with friends for Sunday lunch. The food is outstanding and service excellent. Every member of the team goes out of their way to make sure you are having a great dining experience and Tomas, the owner and chef personally checked in with all diners to ensure they were happy with their food. He also spent time talking to us about any special food requests we may have for future visits. Fabulous afternoon and we absolutely recommend a visit. We will be regular guests for sure! We wish Tomas, his lovely wife and their friendly team every success with their new venture at the Royal George.

Had heard that the new chef is good so we thought we would try the Royal George again. The chef is good. The three of us enjoyed our evening meal and the service was friendly. Will return.

No serious issues. Stayed for two nights at short notice, landlady was pleasant and accommodating. Room was small and cramped, especially the bathroom. The bar and restaurant are managed by children who seem to have no hospitality experience. Had booked with an evening meal and breakfast for both nights, but this wasn't registered on the system. Came down for evening meal on the Sunday to be told that they stopped serving at 5pm. Wasn't told this beforehand. Just little things. The place looks good on the surface, but it's a case of 'all show, no go'. Not a disaster, but wouldn't recommend.

Just had the most delicious Sunday lunch and never had such tender tasty roast beef as this. The portions are generous and the puddings and desserts ended the meal perfectly. Staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. If you want a really nice Sunday lunch then visit The Royal George, I can thoroughly recommend.

We had a fantastic meal to celebrate a birthday. The steaks were perfectly cooked to taste and the deserts just the right portion and delicious. The staff were very friendly and efficient, contributing to a good atmosphere. We stayed the night in a very comfortable ensuite room with everything we needed. Highly recommend

Lovely welcome, the new chef came and spoke to us and offered to make sea bass for me. Wow! AmazIng sea bass with crayfish hollandaise and griddled asparagus. Service was impeccable and a very nice Sancerre. Having been disappointed in the past few months I must say glad we tried again. My husband had a really tasty steak with sides. We will be back.

Called in for lunch. We both had fish and chips. Food was excellent, reasonably priced. Barman was friendly and helpful. Recommend this pub

Just had lunch at the Royal George. We met the new chef Mark. The service and food were excellent and great value for money. We all had a roast which was delicious and generous portions. Mark was very friendly and kind to our children. I highly recommend this pub.

Great range of food on the menu, and good size portions. Staff were very attentive and friendly. And a very reasonable bill at the end. Highly recommend and we will definitely be returning. Hugely enjoyable Saturday night out.

Fantastic pub, great beer & food - thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Corby, albeit for work but this definitely made the nights lodge better.

We visited the George to celebrate my friend Marks Birthday. We all had great meals. I had a Serloin steak which was cooked perfectly, it came with chips and nothing else, i would have liked to see abit of something else on my plate, like peas or salad. I heard that the chef was Portuguese so i went to the kitchen to meet him being Portuguese my self to congratulate him on a great meal. Well done Tomas

The meal and service were first class. I would highly recommend a visit. We will come again, even just to try the delicious bread.

Customer service was horrible. Waited about 2 hours for my food only for it to be the wrong order. Which I was also charged for even though I never ordered it in the first place. I was ignored when spoke to my waiter and asked for another drink. Had the bill thrown onto the table after I asked for it. Overall will not be returning! Or recommending this place.

We spent three nights here in the rural village of Cottingham, close to Corby and Market Harborough. It proved to be an ideal base for visits to Oakham, Castle, the Rennie Mackintosh House in Northampton and the National Space Centre in Leicester. Our room was well laid out with nice furniture and a first rate en suite. Breakfasts, which were were included were brilliant full English with various partial versions available. The evening meals had limited options but they were of excellent quality at reasonable prices. There was a great range of beers also available at the bar. All the staff were polite, efficient and friendly.. We intend to go to the area and the Royal George again in the summer.

We arrived as a group of 6 early to have a drink before our meal. The bar is small which we new as we have been here lots in the past, however the experience was not helped by 3 kids aged 5-6 in the corner, they where doing what kids do! so I have no complaint of them , its just not what i want when going out for an evening!! The staff are very pleasant, helpful and attentive when its not too busy but as the place filled up we found ourselves having to wait and catch their eye to order more drinks etc. There was about a 40 min wait for the food which generally i don't mind as I often think its going to be freshly cooked! 3 of us had the fish and chips which quite frankly was probably the poorest I have ever had in a dine in experience, the batter was soggy and dripping in oil, the chips where not home made and the liquidized peas tasteless, we all felt it was inedible! 2 had the chicken kiev and enjoyed it very much, 1 had the lamb special, 4 cubes of potato a few veg and a load of lamb bones with very little meat on them doesn't cut it im afraid. The staff where very apologetic and replaced the fish and chips, the other didnt want to make a fuss and just ordered a pudding to fill her up. They did give us our drinks free which was very kind of them and we did leave a tip for the effort of the young waiting staff. Just hope they can improve and it was just a bad night for them.

Excellent food, excellent service , pleasant surroundings. Panko prawns and arancini were lovely. Main courses of crispy beef, fish and chips and duck were beautifully presented and tasty. Shiraz washed it all down nicely. Will be returning.

Thanks to Corona virus, and the Boris Bar Ban, we were not able to have our fairly regular Saturday visit to The George. However, we ordered meals to be delivered, and they were excellent. The Fish, chunky chips and peas were actually better (and I think a bit less expensive) than from the late, lamented, Fish Van - without the trek uphill. The crispy chicken and rice was great and, like the fish supper, a healthy portion. (Although we don't base perceived quality on massive platefuls).I think all the dishes are only £10 delivered, so give it a try, I think the menu is on Face book. We need the pub to be still there after this is all over, so try to give them a little support over the challenging times to help them through.Currently, the delivery is only to the villages, but I don't know if you can collect. They also deliver wine, and I think beer. the wine is a bit cheaper than over the bar.

Surprise invitation to Sunday Lunch at ‘the George’ which proved to be a lovely experience. Lovely surroundings, pleasant friendly staff and a really tasty well presented Sunday roast lunch. Tasty beef, selection of well cooked vegetables and a proper puffy Yorkshire pudding. Will definitely be re visiting.

Chose this pub which was a way off our direct route home because of the excellent reviews. It was for an early evening celebration meal, after a university graduation ceremony in Leicester, and we were delighted. The car park was rammed full so we were half-expecting to be turned away, but there was a very friendly welcome and plenty of space inside. Four people with varied tastes in food, we all enjoyed our meal. Gluten-free options available were well understood by our server and she was very friendly and efficient.

Four of us had dinner this evening following my graduation at the University of Leicester. We chose the location because of the break in drive and the reviews on here.The interior and atmosphere in the pub was great, we were met with enthusiasm by Chloe who continued to look after us despite our indecision in ordering. The food was excellent, goats cheese fritters were marvellous as were the fish and chips, salmon with crushed new potatoes, mushroom bourginon and the burger. We went for lunch today for the first time. We had decided to eat here after popping in for a drink over Christmas. Also had heard good reports.There were 5 of us and ordered 4 adult beef and 1 child’s lamb.It can in good time and there was plenty. Meat was cooked well and nice and tender. Vegetables were served separately and there was carrots, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips and roast potatoes. All of which were cooked just right!(not overdone)We asked for more gravy which we were given.The 2 children had deserts....ice cream that disappeared very quickly and a sticky toffee pudding that was huge and ended up being shared!!The staff were very friendly And now it’s my sons favourite Sunday lunch restaurant!!!We enjoyed it!!

Big Thank You to Kevin and his staff for accommodating our group last night. Unanimous vote that the food was terrific and the staff so very good. With almost 30 to feed everything was tasty, hot and served quickly. Kevin also judged our paper hat competition - very diplomatic!!We were also delighted to see that our Christmas crackers were from Shelter with NO plastic or glitter in them at all. Excellent. Monday night is pie night. This week the place was really busy. Excellent proper pies (not stew with a lid). I had the fish pie which is full of ... erm... fish! Comes with chips which is actually way too much food, but better than playing "hunt the fish" as with many other places that I have been to over the years. Meat pies are served with chips and peasI think it was either £9.50 or £9.95. and INCLUDES a pint of beer, lager or a house wine.

We arrived to a fantastic welcome from Chloe , she showed us to our room making us feel really welcome. The decor is modern yet it hasn’t lost the feel of a traditional pub , we ate our evening meal in an area where it was acceptable for the dogs to be with us and the pub is very dog friendly . The food is really good with a good choice of dishes from traditional pub food through to gastro pub dishes . The view of the Northamptonshire countryside from our very clean and comfortable room is stunning, especially as the sunset was amazing , looking forward to our breakfast this morning :) .

This is such a lovley village pub. They serve excellent food and the staff are very helpful. Nice seating are outside too.

Returned again to the Royal George. Stayed in the Heritage Room. Beautiful decor and really comfortable bed. Food is amazing, friendly service. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this family owned Inn and will definitely stay again when in the area.

5 of us booked at 12pm for lunch. Set menu but a great choice of meats & also salmon & a veggie option. Haven’t been here for years as do not live locally anymore. What a change and definitely for the better. Very nice interior, staff great, waiting time spot on and the food was in my sons words the best roast dinner he’s ever had in a restaurant. My beef and the roast potatoes were perfectly cooked as were the vegetables. Desserts were all delicious. We will definitely be returning as very impressed .

After travelling with work, I was recommended The Royal George. It was a great atmosphere but maybe lacking that night with service slightly. Will definitely try again as it was maybe a glitch

Had an evening meal with family visiting from London this weekend. Once again the meal was excellent. Plentiful and very tasty.

The Royal George offers an excellent experience, whether dining or just having a drink. The quality of food is always really good and service is also excellent. The landlord and landlady have made lots of improvements to the place since taking over, including the letting rooms. The bar and restaurant areas are always warm and welcoming and in the fine weather the decking is another nice option, with fine views. The staff are well trained and charming. For example, one of the lovely barmaids this week even offered me a choice of what size ice cube I wanted in my whisky!

The Royal George is a lovely warm and cozy pub with a stylish restaurant. The food is excellent but we found the menu a bit limiting and it was expensive.

I have now visited this place on a number of occasions and it never fails to please. Excellent food of a small but perfectly adequate menu that is changed regularly and is all freshly cooked to order.

We just enjoyed the new Tuesday Steak Night Deal. 2 Excellent, tasty and very thick, non fatty, Rump steaks, plus chips, proper mushroom and a bottle of wine. £25!!

Stayed in the area for two nights and ate here both nights. The first night was a pie and puddings night - really good value for money and cooked to a very high standard. The second night we had a more formal meal and again found really good food at a very reasonable price. Waitresses were excellent looked after us well.

Four of us had Sunday dinner here and it was lovely. Lots of choice on the menu and we all opted for something different. The food was outstanding. My dad said it's the best meal out he's had in years. Very reasonably priced too. Venue was clean and modern and staff were friendly and quick to serve. Parking is limited but there is another car park close by or you can park on the main road. The room we were in was a little bit noisy but it's a busy place so to be expected I guess. In the last 12 months the pub has gone from strength to strength with the restaurant offering very high quality, good value food. The menu varies and offers seasonal and local food that is well presented and cooked perfectly. The range of food is from traditional classics such as fish and chips done very well to more restaurant style food including a good range of curries and Chinese style food. If you like traditional ales, they usually have three, very well kept examples on tap. If you are in the area it is well worth a visit.

We've been here twice now (once as a couple, once with family), and both times had really good food. All the dishes we had we would have again, but my standout favourites so far are the Ultimate Burger and Ultimate Quorn Burger - not sure I can do them justice in writing, try them if you can. Looking forward to our next family gathering at the Royal George now.

We both ordered pie last night. I had a Chicken and Leek (mainly because it is a "proper" shortcrust enclosed pie, and my OH had the fish pie.

We were here last Sunday with family. 11 of us all had Sunday lunch with varying roast dinners. Food was good but!!!!!!

Good pub type food menu but excellently cooked, presented and served. Plenty of staff on hand. Nice starters, main course was good 28 day aged steak and chips and fish and chips. Plenty of choice on menu. Finished off with excellent chocolate brownie. Service was good and prices sensible.Dining area we were in was noisy, no soft furnishings to absorb noise of other people chatting.

We have just returned from a three night stay at the Royal George. From the minute we entered the premises Kevin and Debbie made us feel at home. We had booked the Heritage Room which was extremely comfortable and clean. The guest book information gave the history of this room which had beams dating back to the 13th century. We ate an evening meal each night of our stay and compliments to the Chef (Debbie) the food was wonderful, plenty of variety on the menu. Breakfasts in the morning were just as superb as the evening meals. Our compliments to Kevin and Debbie for running a lovely place, we will certainly be back.

Previous reviews prompted me to book and we were not disappointed. I struggle to find a restaurant that cooks a better Sunday roast than myself at home but The Royal George is an exception. A table of 7 we had Thai fish cakes, king prawns and the homemade chicken pate for starter and they were all delicious. We all had different meats, once again all sublime and ample portions. Roast potatoes were amazing and the staff were welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Didn’t even have to ask, they would ask us if we wanted extra ‘roasties’ and when we agreed to extra gravy we were asked which type of gravy we wanted - fantastic customer service!! We were on a camping holiday 40 mins from home but safe to say I would travel to this restaurant for such exceptional food and service.

I visited on a Saturday afternoon with my Dad for lunch. The food was absolutely superb, great menu and choice. Perhaps needed to be a few more staff however the waitress that looked after us was so pleasant and accommodating. Could not do enough for us and she is a real asset to the business. We ate here twice last week for dinner as we were staying nearby. It's a very nice pub with friendly and helpful staff. As the weather was lovely, we sat outside on the decking area which was very pleasant indeed. Dogs are allowed too both inside and outside the pub. The first night I had the rack of lamb which was very tasty although a little light on accompanying veg etc. My husband had the gammon & chips which he said was excellent. The second night I had the lasagne and that was really lovely. Home-made and very tasty & decent chips (hooray). We really liked this place and would definitely come again if we were in the area.
