The service is awful. The way they talk to you, the plastic cups serving you the drinks like an American party style.. they need professional waiters instead of these young students full of themselves. I will avoid this place at all cost.

During the festival was really buzzing. Has gone now gone completely quiet. Only a couple of people so no atmosphere.

A great pub with outdoor seating.

Visited this place a few times over the years and it does have an odd appeal, can't put my finger on it, bit it is a nice vibe.

Great atmosphere and always busy, you need to book in advance if you want a table. Food is a little pricey for the quality, have had better pub food elsewhere but its Edinburgh after all.

Really nice pub/restaurant. We were visiting the escape room next door and stopped in for a drink and food. Really lovely staff and nice selection of choices

The bar staff have no interest in doing their job, desperate to get people out and close early. The only bar I’ve ever been into where the staff are not only completely unprofessional but seem to hate people drinking pints in a bar? Never go here there is no reasoning with the work shy bar staff. Completely ruined my birthday.

Food and distillery were closed. Interesting name. University type setting.

Love this pub, came here years ago before we went to the Pickering's Gin Distillery Tour. We were wondering about and found we were close to it again and popped in for a couple of beers. Great beers, really interesting surroundings and friendly staff. The food looked really good but we didn't have time unfortunately.

Chips were cool, sent back twice. Good ambience and friendly staff tho'.

For me it remains one of the top 10 pubs in the city, which is high praise. It's got great drinks, unique selection, and varying spaces in which to enjoy, including the outdoors. Service is always snappy too. The remains of the vet school is one of the big draws of this pub - barely even 10 years after it closed. Summerhall overall has recently announced a redevelopment - hopefully this venue will be here for a long time to come.

Fantastic bar great food great atmosphere wide range of spirits some made on site

I have been to the other part of summerhall for the ceilidh dance.. But finally got to come here for a drink and food. We got the beef cheese burgers and a side of calamari. The cheeseburger was delicious but the calamari was very overcooked and rubbery. The beer was good too. The bartenders were great and lovely to chat with!

We ordered beer, calamari, and burgers. We tried four of the beers on tap, before ordering one and the bartender was really nice and friendly. Each chose a beer that we liked and ordered food later. I would say reserve a table in advance cause all the tables were booked after 7. The burger was a bit underseasoned but nice. The calamari was a bit too oily and overcooked. Overall, experience was great and would come again.

This bar is tucked away but it's got loads of outdoor seating for the summer, and the indoor bit is really cute too.

A lovely atmosphere with a small but delicious menu with good vegitarian options. The prices are good and the staff is lovely. It is also dog friendly! The space is broken up into different section filled with cozy chairs and benches that can accomodate both small and large groups.

Popped in for a drink. They were missing ingredients for a cocktail and bar help was poor.

Always a good atmosphere with decent selection of their own brewed beers

Good variety of ales, the volcano IPA is a particular favourite. A bit pricier than nearby bars. Decent selection of pub food, too. Excellent location for drinks before a gig, and the courtyard is great on a beautiful Edinburgh, summer night.

Ein ehemaliger Veterinair-Unigebäude, von der Uni an einem - wohl erleuchteter- Miljonair verkauft worden, wurde zu Multi-Zweck-Gebäude umgewandelt. Überall noch alte Artefakten, wie Erlenmeyer Kolben, sogar ein stereo phasenkontrast-Mikroskop. Viel „Atmosphäre“ also. Ich, UHU-Papa hatte das Privileg mit Tochter und andere Studenten zwei gemütliche Stunden hier zu verbringen. Leckeres Cider-beer, gutes Lager auch (sagte mir die eine Trinkerin), Ich bekam nach reifer Überlegung einen feinen whiskey, weil Schottland, und diesmal nicht peaty und smokey, weil der Laphroigh von vor 35 Jahren jetzt noch meinen Geschmackspapillen betäubt. Also eine feine Stimmung, überall plaudernde Grüppchen, hier und da finden sogar noch andere Aktivitäten statt (zwei Chöre üben hier). Das Ganze wirkt sehr gemütlich, zum ratschen gar inspirierend. Die Preisen hier scheinen mir in Ordnung, muss aber sagen, dass das restliche Edinburgh mir als preislich überhöht vorkommt und dás meine Referenz geworden ist, leider. Wie es jetzt ist um hier alleine aufzukreuzen, in der Hoffnung auf ein nettes Gesprächchen, weiß ich nicht. Vielleicht, dass da ein normaler Pub mit normalen Barhänger angebrachter wäre. Einfach hingehen, probieren oder mit Singen anfangen (von 7 bis 77 Jahren).

Very very cool location. The squid from Madrid sandwhich was so damn good. Gin tour at Pickering was great with our tour guide Jamie. He did great.

Lovely quirky place to have food or just a drink. Indoors is cosy and warm and outside in courtyard is nice and bright and has heaters too. Staff very friendly

Closed the bar early, before closing time. Wouldn't serve me, I spent lots of money for me and my friends. Easier to serve me and let me spend more money.

Really enjoyed this spot! Found it on a Google map search while we were in the area. The BLT and Calamari sandwiches were delicious. Would highly recommend this place for a quick and cheap but tasty dinner! Visited from Canada by the way and we’ll be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.

This is not a pub you are likely to stumble across by accident, it is buried deep inside one of the university buildings. Just walk in as if you know where you are going and with a bit of luck you'll find the bar. When you do get there you'll be pleasantly surprised, they actually sell a decent cask ale.

Unique decor and atmosphere blended with youthful, friendly staff and excellent beer & whisky selection make for a great night (PS over 40s are welcome 😉 and you could easily pass yourself off as a Prof.! ) Outside space is very good too and used in (most) weathers 🙂🌧

Lovely place with bookable private room. Food used to be good with lasagne and haggis stuffed egg, but now it’s just hamburgery fare.

The absolute beating heart of the Edinburgh arts scene. Lovely food and drink but more importantly, much more importantly, a place that is trying to make a difference.

Has own beer and gin selection which are both very delicious. Quirky decor in keeping with history of the building which was the central veterinarian school. Don’t try and park as there isn’t any and during the festival there are usually external bars and food trucks.

Had high expectations from this one as another recommendation from a friend but not really a place for families. The friend was a family of wee ones too, not sure w t f they were thinking. The food was quite limiting, sandwiches or burger or chips. This place is for adults to chill and drink The toilet as you would expect is not suited for children. Very unclean and none hygienic.

Vibrant bar in the old veterinary school. Good selection of beers and spirits.

This bar is a particular favourite of mine , they do good tapas and the bar has an interesting vibe.

Fun, relaxed atmosphere. The food is very good and the staff friendly.

We stopped there for a drink, the staff was very nice. Our dog was allowed inside, she even got a free treat and cuddles :)

Awesome location, absolute gem in fact, all the old vetinary school artifacts make this gaff unmissable. The staff are very bit random, but the food was excellent and the beer flowed like wine

Slightly expensive, but we usually enjoy going. On our last visit a group of customers had their dogs completely surrounding the path out to the courtyard and bar. I don't like dogs, but don't normally have issue with them. The owners seemed insulted that other people had to get past their dogs that were causing an obstruction. This ruined the atmosphere and we may not come again for some time.

Love the quirky atmosphere and the outdoor seating. All very casual, nice for a drink. Come here often with friends or visitors as like historic connection with vet school also.

Quirky kind of place but to be fair I'm probably not the right age and demographic. Glorious setting and great Uni courtyard. Just a tad flat to me and omg pricey beer even by Edinburgh standards. But hey fill your boots

Great staff, sublime location and Barney's lager. Barney played in the fantastic beautiful suit during 80's on his journey to master brewer. Like his music he makes nectar for the gods.

No student discount on drinks but a beautiful place with candle light tables and some snacks.

Excelent in all ways, friendly atmosphere, nice and efficient staff, delicious food, and amazing beers from their own brewery. In addicion the decoration is brilliant. I love it.

Personally I love this place, it has a beautiful atmosphere and overall very interesting place to be. VERY steep if you are a student but the pints are good and I guess you pay for the vibes.

Has implemented a system of a £2 deposit on your glass when you buy your drink, which you never know if you are going to get back at the end.

Different place. But you need to know how to get in as no sign in outside, specially if you are tourist.

Le bar est caché au sein de l'ancienne université de dentiste d'Édimbourg dans un lieu de vie ou sont présent une multitude d'activité et de commerce. Le bar est très chouette et sert les boissons : bière ou gin des distilleries et brasseries voisines. A 15 minutes du Royal mile et de ses pubs très touristiques, il ne faut pas hésiter à marcher un peu pour découvrir cet endroit atypique

Great casual atmosphere and service with local spirits and beer. Interesting foods on offer, which could benefit from some improvement. My partner was served a very tired mixed green salad which seemed to come out of a bag. Hardly any dressing. Fries somewhat underdone.

Amazing burger! Ordering digitally was fast and easy. We sat outside so the kids could play around the courtyard, we had a very good time.
