The Rowan Tree Restaurant in North Ayrshire

It’s sad that this place is closing. I’ve been going here for years with my mum for a weekend treat after work and the staff/food have always been lovely! I hope all the staff find new places to work asap. They are all great. The only downside for me were the toilets. They weren’t the most pleasant of things to go into.

Inexpensive and reasonable quality. Just heard it is closing next week!!!!

Uninspiring restaurant but nice views

Lovely location, decent portions and reasonable price! Special shout out goes to curly fries. Had to fight with my wife over them. Cakes were nice as well.

Food was okay but the gents toilet is still disgusting.

Waited long enough to be seated, then once eventually seated, the customers behind us that had not waited half as long, were served first. We left and never ordered food. This place would do much better if it was staffed appropriately

This place is amazing great service quick and food is amazing. Would recommend highly. Also the garden centre is full of excellent plants at a good price.

Bland food overly expensive and inside very dated

Ordered Highland chicken. Chicken with haggis. When it came I sliced into the chicken ( which was very tough) looking for the haggis? I looked underneath the chicken also, to no avail. There was no haggis? I told the waitress who said she would ask. She came back and said the chef had made a mistake. Would I like another meal made. Long story short I got another meal with a few morsels of haggis this time. Will not be returning here for food.

Food mediocre ladies toilets disgusting

Ideal for a pit stop. Good food served quickly.

Absolutely horrible service. Was kicked out of parking but i had already paid for my meal. at the front it says customer parking. which means if you buy something you can park there. i was still kicked out of parking and verbally abused by one of the staff members. I think it was the owner.

After waiting over 5 minutes to be seated, despite several staff just sitting around, we eventually were shown to a table. The food was mediocre and the salad tasted very dry. There was no background music of any kind, so you could hear everyone’s conversations. The beach across the road looked good, so we headed over and spent a couple of hours there. My wife went back to the car after around an hour, which was parked in the restaurant car park. An hour later my sons aged 13 and 15 went back to the car and 5 minutes later my daughter and I went back. I was told that my 15 year boy was asked if that was his car by a member of staff. My son said yes, and she said ‘this is not a beach car park’. My son said ‘okay, thanks but it’s not my problem, to which she replied, ‘It will be your problem when I put your car in that field’. By this point my wife heard what was going on and got out to say that we had already eaten and had they receipt to confirm but she didn’t care and said we had been there for hours and had been watching us. The car park does say for patrons only, which we were, but the family that parked in the car park in full view of the restaurant staff and immediately went across to the beach, returned just as we were leaving were spared the aggressive and threatening attitude that was reserved for our young boys. After a bit of digging, I found out that this staff member is the owner of this dive. Anyone who visits the Rowan Tree restaurant after reading this review needs to take a good look at themselves.

Many thanks to the staff, excellent attention to detail, a lovely welcome from the male waiter, the steak pie was fantastic. Looking forward to eating there again. We actually saw a ferry going to Arran.

After waiting 5/10 minutes as per the "wait to be seated sign" they had displayed proudly at the front door, we were advised they were full despite numerous empty tables and no reservations being shown in their reservation book which was left lying open as we waited. I would suggest if the establishment is fully booked, that they perhaps show a sign stating this fact instead of having people wait about to be told they are, in fact, fully booked.

Never before experienced such a miserable snippy waitress in my life. Everyone's presence seemed like a chore. An elderly lady was talking to her about the poor quality of the food and as she walked away she openly and rudely rolled her eyes. Shocking service. Couldn't be bothered to engage with customers . Never will return. Well done she just lost you lots of customers...

Popped in for lunch today with my wife. Had fish and chips which was cooked to perfection. My wife said her toasty was tasty too. Service was a little slow but i would still highly recommend!

First time in for a long time. Breakfast was so good we went back next day. Personally I'd have liked more sauté potatoes. Views are amazing and the seals, an added bonus.

GRden centre come resturant. Good food and plenty of it at Reasonable prices.

Update : Hmmmm, the last review wasn't the best, .... but the one before that though was 'glowing ... so it can be a bit hit and miss ..... however, .... the Garden Centre part of the Rowantree continues to ( excuse the pun ) .... blooming 🌻🌼🥀💐🌲🌳🌴

Lovely staff and good value food

Just had lunch there and it was excellent. Although very busy staff were efficient and turned round vacated tables smartly.

Food good, service slower than a slow snail. Atmosphere non existent.

Omlet tasteless. Had to send back breakfast as it was cold. No toilet paper in toilets. Door lock was not there on toilets. Had dryer did not work.

Very excited. Everything was very tasty and not expensive.

We really like this place. It's well positioned to split our regular journeys north. The breakfast is decent and plentiful. The staff are always pleasant. The homemade cakes.... It's worth the trip just for those. We've only ever been for breakfast or coffee 'n cake so can't comment on other meals.

Another beautiful meal with my children and elderly parents - Thankyou Rowantree staff for your continued excellent food and caring, faultless style of service, which has been our family favourite for many years now. The Christmas menu this year is stunning with so much choice, quality and still amazing value. Please try this west coast gem if you’ve not yet discovered it everyone.

Felt like volunteers were serving us, food cold and 1 of the breakfasts was brought out wrong 3 times, fresh orange juice was not freshly squeezed and was charged £15 for 3 glasses, it was a shame because the views were lovely, sad to say we won't be back

Nice restaurant with incredible views over the Firth of Clyde towards Arran. Good is really nice and priced appropriately. Great portions - nice fresh food.

Just doing a delivery but staff very friendly and helpful

The portion sizes we got served where small & the bacon was cooked with a heated argument! Staff friendly enough although busy busy & hard to get hold of. Restraunt it's self is nice & modern but my god the toilets not only dated but filthy. Water all over floor, no locks on doors & smelly.

The service is terrible. Four of us waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken. We waited a further 30 minutes and asked the waitress what was causing the delay in serving two breakfasts and two panninis. She told us the kitchen was very busy. After another fifteen minutes we asked the waiter why tables that came in fifteen to twenty minutes after us were being served while we were still waiting. He went to check and the waitress who took our order and advised us the kitchen was busy fifteen minutes earlier told us there was a problem with the till and our order had not been registered. She offered us a free cold or hot drink for the delay but told us our order had not even begun. At this stage we walked out fuming. I have given the Rowantree one star as I was unable to give it no stars We have had long delays in the past, however this was unbelievable and we won't be back again.

The food was good and I had a fine time

Such a shame … the views are simply breathtaking and I live in the area and was blown away every time with them hail rain or snow. I’m extremely disappointed to say the restaurants food is a disgrace and the loos are a health and safety hazard waiting to happen! I came in with my family I personally ordered the chicken korma some of the chicken was still frozen and I do not mean cold I mean literally just out the freezer frozen!!! Some bits of the chicken were black inside I completely refused to eat it. My niece had the southern fried chicken you could’ve smashed a window with it now unless you have teeth like jaws there’s no way of getting a bite of it. The macaroni from what I heard was okay. Such a shame the food quality is so poor as it used to be great! And the toilets are just as bad as the food the full place needs to sort itself out. I personally would never return for food or the toilet and would tell anyone to completely avoid!

Good food nice venue beautiful outlook

Great place, nice food at a decent price. The late specials with the opof cake and scones with a meal at £12.50 a head is really good. Loved the fish and chips, and the steak pie is good.

Can’t comment on food as we didn’t get any! We visited today and the restaurant was not busy. We got menus but sat for 15 mins waiting to order. A member of staff cleared the table next to us but ignored us. We gave up and left. Very disappointing.

Food was lovely and apart from not getting tartare sauce when we requested it meal was lovely. Waitress did apologize for forgetting the tartare sauce. Lovely place well worth a visit.

Great place for family and friends to visit

Food was really good. Service was a bit slow. Just felt the place was very dated. Toilets were not very clean.

Disappointed with the service today. I ordered 3 mayo wraps and a portion of chips to takeaway. After waiting half an hour, the four boxes where handed to me. Not put in the usual paper bag with napkins. Took them along to Ardrossan, opened the boxes and found 2 Mayo wraps and 2 portions of chips, no Crisps in the boxes, like we have gotten in the past. So had to share the 2 wraps with 3 people, we were disappointed as we have been pleased with the takeaway service before and that's why we returned. The Mayo wraps were nice.

Nice food with good views from the restaurant

The restaurant was very clean and staff very pleasant and we didnt have long to wait for food.I had toastie which was lovely and well presented ,the salad could have done with some dressing as was tasteless.Also it was a bit quiet and everyone could hear conversations so maybe a wee bit ambient background music would be good ,but overall it was a pleasant visit .

Stopped for a cup of tea ,hubby had a,scone that came with only butter had to ask for jam and milk ,the decor could do with modernising a bit dated,wouldn't rush back.

we went there in the afternoon, it was busy and we were seated near the doors. One woman opened the door wide, it was really cold, I had asked a waitress if she would close it and she did, but the woman who opened it opened it again. I went up and asked her to please close it but she told me no it stays open to let air in!! So much for looking after her customers.

This restraunt is out of this world! I especially like their cheesy Macaroni and their cakes.

If your ideal meal is plain food with an old folks home feel (decor and temperature) and passive aggressive staff with limited social skills (no eye contact and speaking at a volume lower than the amount of years left on earth of the average patron) who genuinely seem annoyed that they have customers as well as Trainspotting level toilets and a view ruined by what seems like an infinite amount of plexiglass dividers then this the place you have been looking for.

It's the second time we have been here recently; we have been coming for over ten years when we lived in Fairlie, and we think the cook has changed recently. The battered haddock was soggy and undercooked, the peas like small musket balls and almost by way of recompense there were far, far too many chips, almost a plateful! This used to be a regular stop off going home for us but we're going to give it a break for a few months and see if the cooking improves a bit.

Only called in for coffee so cannot comment on the Food coffee was nice

Food is lovely great choices never waited to long for our food and the portions are great. The staff are all so friendly. I love the fact it has a garden centre attached after our meal we always take a walk around the garden centre they put on amazing displays for Halloween Christmas etc

Been coming for years and the food and staff are great. Used for family celebrations and they were happy to accommodate our larger party. Kids menu is fab and portion sizes are good. Sits right on a lovely area of the beach which is fab for a stroll to burn off that food

We love it here.Great food,service and view over to Arran.Prices very reasonable and food cooked from fresh.There is also a garden centre to have a look at. Visited this restaurant again on the 26th September 2022 and again all was great including the food and service. One point letting it down is the state of the ladies toilet. Doors not closing, toilets dirty,toilet seats broken and falling down.Please do something with these toilets immediately.

Been here regularly over the years,the meal yesterday was very poor,mince was good,boiled potatoes were hard,gammon steak was tough,staff are always lovely

Very good service even though they were short staffed. Excellent food and drink too.

Was badly let down by portions,got steak pie,lifted up pastry to see 4 small pieces of meat, roughly 1/2 inch square,got apple strudel after it,it came with ice cream,to be honest,the ice cream portion was so small it looked like it had been scooped up with a tea spoon. I spoke to the manageress regarding this all she said was they were making cutbacks,again to be honest,she gave the impression she didn't care,so much for customer relations,when my wife and I turned to walk away she said loud enough to the young male assistant for us to hear,don't worry about it. This is one place to avoid if you want value for your money,this restaurant was a regular place for my wife and but due to really shrunken portions and the manageress totally ignorant way of customer service relations and cosideration, I am sorry to say that we will not be back,on a nicer note,the food,for all there was was actually very good,just a shame that due to very small portions and manageress lack of customer skills totally ruined the whole experience,such a shame as this has been one of our favourite restaurants for years.

Restaurant good service from American girl Haylie was fabulous but TOILETS ARE A DISGRACE THEY SHOULD BE SHUT AS DISGUSTING AND RUN DOWN definatly need refit as soon as possible WONT BE BACK AS WAS SICK AFTER VISIT TO TOILET AS THEY ARE FILTHY AND BROKEN
