My wife and I went for their Valentine's Day six plate tasting dinner. Absolutely terrific and one of the nicest meals I have eaten in a while. I've since been told that they have employed a new chef, whewther the case or not, whoever put this together knows what they're doing. We'll definitely go back for dinner in the near future.

I stayed for a night recently and had a super stay and was well looked after by the hotel staff. The hotel is in a fantastic location in the heart of the Cairngorms and very easy to get to. It’s a traditional highland hotel which has a slightly surprising high end restaurant. The hotel is just as you want from a highland hotel - easy to get to, plenty of parking, open log fires and a snug bar area beside the restaurant. My room was warm, comfortable and very clean, with a modern shower room and plenty of hot water from a powerful rain shower, just the thing after a bike ride! I dined in the restaurant and was very impressed, they serve a mix of what I’d class as high end dishes and traditional favourites, all presented very well. My chorizo and black pudding starter was a great twist on a classic combination and my burger was excellent, a proper burger and chips, made with good beef and served with hand cut chips. As well as the variety of dishes there are a lot of gluten and dairy free, and vegan dishes so there really is something for everyone. You can also eat in the bar beside the fire for something a bit less formal. There’s an extensive wine list as well and a huge selection of whisky and locally produced spirits. In fact, there was very much a theme of sourcing local produce.

We stayed at the Rowan Tree travelling up to the North West and booked in for dinner bed and breakfast. We were travelling with our dog and the hotel was more than accommodating, putting us up in the bar, next to the fire for dinner. The dinner was superb, being a vegetarian and a meat eating couple, we often find that one of us does not always get a great meal. We both had an AMAZING meal and staff were brilliant throughout.

Warm welcome on a wintery night, cosy surroundings, comfy beds, high pressure showers, great food (!), ample parking (plus charging points for e-cars), a well stocked bar and a roaring warm fire! Highly recommended! I would 100% eat at The Rowan Tree again. They do a 3 course/per person package that you can opt in/out at time of booking, or you can go for the food on its own without staying on site. Tons to see and do in the local area. The Highland Wildlife Park is super close, so is the RSPB Inch Marsches. Loads of local walks to enjoy too and one is close enough to Aviemore high street to be able to squeeze in a couple of hours of shopping at the end of your stay if one is keen.

Our fault this experience didn't live up to scratch - we are not 'fine dining guests!'. Thought the food too pricey for what you received - the Cod dish could have done with being a bigger piece (for a woman) as the vegetables are smooth paste on the plate. The tables are too close together to justify the 'fine dining' experience as you are too close to the next people eating. The hotel is top notch and I would consider staying B & B and the dining room is beautifully set out (just not for the cost of the meal). Service was excellent and bar and lounge area lovely to relax in before eating. Our fault as I say.

This hotel does all the basics well. Location is excellent with walks and views of loch and hills. The rooms are warm and spotlessly clean. Service is friendly and pleasantly informal. However, it is the restaurant for which this hotel excels. The plates are beautifully presented and served. Given the quality of the cooking the prices represent great value for money in my opinion. Highly recommend for a stay or simply for a drop in dinner.

Had a wonderful overnight stay. Friendly, welcoming staff. Quirky but very comfortable bedroom. This was the last night of a 9-night tour and I think we saved the best till last. Had the venison for dinner which was out of this world! Breakfast was also excellent. Cosy bar and coffee lounge. Will definitely be back.

Stayed and ate at The Rowan Tree 2 nights in July. The hotel room was cosy and comfortable with everything you need for a weekend stay. My meals both nights were served in a timely manner. I had soup both nights which, while a little on the thinner side for my taste, were very tasty. The burger was fat and juicy while the tempura haddock was lovely. Would eat here again

Regular for years and visited last week. Left due to belligerent staff - asked for bottle of sparkling water and was served a glass - asked for a bottle and two different staff members tried to tell me it was the same thing - finishing with “ it’s only water and turning away from table “. I left to eat elsewhere. Shame - used to be good place to visit. Not rushing back anytime soon to revisit the water bottle police .

We booked for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Fabulous vibe, and the restaurant was really busy. There was a slight delay in being served, but the food we had was excellent. We ordered cauliflower pakora for starter to share with a bottle of water and bottle of sauvignon blanc. We ordered the winter salad with chicken and one without with a side of fries. All was delicious and will definitely go back. Including 10% tip total cost was £83.95.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!
