The Rowan Tree Country Hotel Restaurant in Highland

An excellent dinner for 4 in convivial surroundings. We had booked and were welcomed at reception and taken through to the dining room where menus and water were promptly produced. While we considered the menus (also available on-line), very tasty home made bread with dips was placed on the table. Table service was friendly without being overbearing. The starters were on the table quickly and I thoroughly enjoyed the baked aubergine rolls. They were followed by the braised lamb which melted in the mouth. Portion size was well judged so I still had room for delicious baked lemon tart with ice cream. The hotel has an impressive ambience - quite old worldly and grand in parts - but with a very modern feel to the dining room. Hope to go again.

Came across the Rowan Tree completely by chance 15 or so years ago when returning from a trip to the Highland Wildlife Park, and now we visit the Rowan Tree whenever we stay in Aviemore (either staying at the hotel itself or simply having an evening meal) and have never been disappointed. Food is excellent and staff very friendly. Haven't missed a year for the last 15+ years even during Covid as the timing was when travel was allowed. We spend a week in July in Aviemore as a family and even though my sons are all adults now they still ask if I've booked a meal at the Rowan Tree! Some work colleagues have also stayed and their feedback to me is the same. Can highly recommend.

Disappointed! The restaurant was cold when we arrived and didn't warm up whilst we were there. Very expensive for what we had.We eat out at fine dining restaurants atleast twice a month,so know what to expect. The Scallops we were served as a starter were microscopic in comparison to any other I've seen and eaten. My son in-law makes a living from harvester Scallops so i know what I'm talking about. Very disappointing all in all. It was our 25th anniversary meal and we had high hopes,but felt let down!

A lovely warm welcome, drinks by the roaring fire. Our waitress was so friendly, keen to inform us about the provenance of the dishes and extremely helpful . It was a little chilly in the restaurant at our first table as it was only us and minus 5 outside . A table change next to a radiator and all was sorted . Everyone’s dishes were super, I loved the scallops and lamb . Definitely a destination to go for a warm Scottish welcome and great food. .

We've always loved eating here but booked for hogmanay's 7 course taster menu evening and it was superb! We were welcomed with canapés and fizz before taking out table for the main event. Food was delicious and the attentive staff were exceptional. We'll be doing the same next year if they repeat the evening as well as a few other normal dinner visits.

Shenna gave us the warmest of welcomes on arrival as she was very friendly, also very attentive to our wee dog throughout our stay. Everything about our stay was excellent staff, service, lovely room and brilliant shower. The Food was excellent in the restaurant and a lovely cozy bar. Would definitely go back.

We stayed for 3 nights, we only wish it was longer. Service was excellent, hotel was full of character and charm with great facilities. We ate in the hotel every night, food was great including the cooked breakfast options. The owners were lovely and made us feel so welcome, we will definitely return! Do yourself a favour and book an individual family run hotel and give the chains a miss, you won't regret it.

friendly & welcoming efficient staff, lovely atmosphere, amazing food! We had the kids chicken dippers plus mushroom gnocchi & sweet potato soup to start with the fish fingers, venison casserole & supreme of chicken with black pudding mousse. Every bite was delicious and presentation lovely. Wasn’t the cheapest bill but for excellent quality and taste it was worth it. Will definitely be back when next in the area.

Very well presented food but neither of us enjoyed our dishes much. I enjoyed a pint by the fireplace most.

Have meant to visit for many years. Given a voucher so no excuse. So glad we did. Lovely atmosphere, limited menu but not an issue . Best chicken I have ever had and beef was silky and so tasty. No such thing as cheap meals in Aviemore area. This was worth it. Definitely visit for few days and use this hotel/restaurant, beautiful area all year round.

Had dinner there while staying in Aviemore. Service was first class and a knowledgeable waiter recommended the wine. The fact it was South African as he was was coincidental! Two of us had the venison - the best I have ever tasted and cooked perfectly. The other member of our party had a burger which was again nicely cooked and presented. Pudding menu was limited but they were excellent. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

It's a wonderful place -- beautiful setting, exceptional food, great service. I cannot recommend the Rowan Tree more highly. We went in mid-winter, with lots of snow, and yet there was no problem. The owners really know the area too.
