Hoped to have a quick bite in the Rotunda. No staff. No service. No menus. Has definitely gone to the dogs who seemed to outnumber humans.

Lovely building and the staff were great, but very disappointed in the cheeseboard - about £13-14 for 3 small slices of admittedly nice cheese with just a few crackers, chutney and grapes. Realistically worth about half that price.

Over the years we've drank, dined, slept and snacked at The Midland and it's always been a special event. The history, the architecture, the art, the food, the view, the service... But all that has been trampled by the carelessness of whoever is currently in charge. We should have walked away when we saw that the building was - in peak tourist season - left to degrade into the mildewed grey-green that signals neglect. Having to order and pay up front at the bar in a supposedly luxury venue should have been another warning. We probably would have argued the bill otherwise. The menu is bizarre in its limitations and ignorance of local culture. It lacks accurate description and promises way more than it delivers, i.e. being edible. Who makes children's mashed potato that tastes like handsoap? The Midland, that's who. Our food was either freezing cold and undercooked, or dried out and reheated or burned. Dishes from each course arrived at random times, including what we sent back to be replaced, and accompaniments and sides were missing or arrived with deserts. What we didn't send back we left on our plates and no one asked why. Service was slow and confused, with us having to offer to clear our own used plates before the next were placed down. Staff were sweet and clearly inexperienced but also needed constant requests for basics like clearing used plates before new ones were put down, and they seemed confused at requests for cutlery or condiments. We felt sorry for them. It must be depressing to work there. The place was empty in peak season and the food & atmosphere were dire. We note that a new company took ownership this year. The individuals responsible at board and management level should be thoroughly ashamed at what they have done to this national treasure. One glance at their website shows that they have no respect or understanding of the jewel they have acquired. What can be done to save The Midland?

We used to love the Rotunda for lunch. Went today and it was so disappointing. What happened to the lovely sharing platters? I paid £13.50 for a ramekin containing half a pot of potted shrimps topped up with lemon juice and one piece of toast which was burnt. No presentation, no imagination, not even a bit of greenery! It will be a while before I give it another go.

Went there for lunch with my sister and was thoroughly disappointed with the meal. I had a steak sandwich which was advertised as steak with crispy onions and blue cheese on sourdough bread. No onion, cold steak with a few crumbles of cheese and bread was dry. The salmon was fine but there was two slices of bread with cream cheese spread on and off . All this after a 25 min wait. The staff however were fine, friendly. This is the second time we have had a poor meal here and will not be coming back.

Not a good experience. We decided to try here for a meal for my birthday....and we won't be back. We arrived and found a table overlooking the bay which gave lovely views out to sea and went to the bar for drinks....a little bit on the pricey side but similar to prices in the Lake District. One pint (Guinness) had to go back as tasted "off"...vinergary and just not right....the second pint was better but not great....the pipes possibly needed cleaning properly. We then ordered lunch, what arrived was very disappointing for the price. The open steak sandwich £17 was small to say the least, the blue cheese dressing was simply a bit of blue cheese crumbled over the top and the chips tasted like they'd been cooked in very old oil. The lite bite mussels in cider £15 was fairly tasty however approx 25%of the mussels hadn't opened and a couple hadn't been properly cleaned and so were inedible. The only meal which was ok was the crispy fish bun £13 although again the chips weren't great. You have to order and pay for your meals upfront and when we mentioned to the waitress we weren't happy she apologised and made an excuse of a new menu and said she'd pass on our comments. No management came to ask us anything further and so we left To be honest the standard and quality of the cooking really doesn't justify the prices and I certainly wouldn't be confident of trying anything from the main, pricier, section of the menu...it really wasn't anything above a high street chain of pubs...but at least there the prices reflect what you're getting. A seriously disappointing meal and would not recommend to anyone.

After years of hopeful patronage, my recent visit to the Midland left me deeply disillusioned. Once renowned for its delectable cocktails and cuisine, it has regrettably descended into the realm of overpriced fast food. The inadequacy of staff was glaringly evident, forcing patrons to queue at the bar for a staggering 15 minutes just to place an order, while a mere two individuals juggled multiple tasks. Even the semblance of table service was absent. My attempt at treating my family to a special meal turned into a frustrating ordeal. Despite ordering a variety of dishes, ranging from burgers to a child's meal, the execution was abysmal. The timing of courses was haphazard, with desserts arriving before mains and starters served concurrently. The portion sizes were underwhelming, with missing elements like guacamole and red onion, and even basics like butter accompanying bread were overlooked. To add insult to injury, when our ice cream sundae finally made its appearance, it was evidently a recycled portion from an earlier attempt, lacking freshness and presentation. The entire experience left us feeling utterly let down and questioning the value of our investment. In conclusion, my longstanding loyalty to the Midland has been shattered by this disappointing experience, and I can no longer endorse it as a dining destination.

A lovely walk along the beach from Hest Bank you eventually reach here. The Rotunda bar is situated within the Midland Hotel and this was our first time visiting. Inside you find a lovely decorated large bar with plenty of seating options available Great choice of both food and drink at reasonable prices. We only stayed for a drink, however the food looked lovely, so will definitely eat here on our next visit. The views over Morecambe Bay are spectacular. Will definitely return and hopefully take advantage of their outdoor seating area, especially for the views.

Disgusting! We called here for a drink and something to eat on Sunday, all outdoor available tables were piled high with used plates and glasses, tables with spilled ketchup smelling and attracting wasps, the floors were full of food and rubbish, my husband had to wait 15 mins to be served at the bar with 4 staff and then had to ask to be served (there was only him there) we didn’t order food, we thought if this is the state of things that customers can see I wouldn’t be ordering anything from the kitchen. We had half our drinks and left never to we return! We are local!

After enjoying 'Vintage by the Sea' with two friends, we decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the Midland Hotel. Ensconced in the Art Deco splendour of the Rotunda Lounge, we ordered two of the Midland Platters -£15.50 ea. Strangely, some of the key ingredients were supplied in quantities of 3? - not ideal for a sharing plate. The described 'chunky bread' turned out to be 3 tiny slices, half the size of a beermat & not much thicker. More disappointing were the £9 cocktails, served in a small paper cup filled with crushed iced, looking more like a colourless kids slush-puppy than the sophisticated Art Deco cocktail shown on the menu. Poor show Jeeves!

Disappointing that lunch no longer served in the lovely bright restaurant, but only in the Rotunda Bar which is cramped, noisy and has only tiny tables which you can't pre-book. We called in for lunch 3 of us, in the rotunda restaurant; the menu doesn't really inspire you. One of us had mustard ham sandwich that had a lot of salad with it but it was nice. The other 2 had the Fish platter that had lots of very, very, hard bread you could not even snap it with your fingers plus it was cut much to thick, there were 2 small pieces of of Mackeral, 3 very small fish cakes that were approx half the size of a golf ball , 4 prawns, and 2 pieces of smoked salmon, plus salad. To day that it was a rip off at £35 Inc 2 teas and a coffee. We would have been better fed if we had afternoon teas instead. We did mention it to the waitress girl who just said I'm sorry. The manager came to clear the table so it was mentioned again to him and all he said was I'm sorry but I'll pass it on to the chefs. So hence we won't be going again.

We popped in here for a cheeky mid- afternoon prosecco after a five mile walk on the promenade. It was 'bright and breezy' Morecambe weather but we were determined to sit outside. Service was friendly and when we ordered a couple of snack items they arrived speedily. The view is stunning and you could literally sit there admiring it all day! We had a train to catch or we would have stayed longer. The toilets were clean and spacious but one observation we had was that the exterior of the building is in need of a coat of paint to bring it back to it's former glory. Even in bright sunshine it looked a dull grey instead of the brilliant white you see on the website and booking site photos. (We actually said we would feel underwhelmed if we arrived to stay as a first time visitor expecting to see it looking resplendent). Enjoyed the overall experience though, and managed to squeeze in a second prosecco before we went to catch our train!

After asking a staff member to wipe them down they eventually did (but left all the other equally soaked ones as they were). We almost walked away, it took so long, but am glad we didn't as the food was delicious. It's just not much to ask of a bar with outdoor seating to wipe down rain-soaked chairs and tables - is it? Also, table service would have been nice and stopped the tedious queue at the bar. Expected more, from the type of venue it's supposed to be ie a bit nicer than your average cafe.

Even though I am local to the area I have only visited The Midland a handful of times due to previous hit and miss experiences. The most recent being one of them. I booked online to celebrate an occasion for two at The Midland for casual drinks and food, I wanted to book the rotunda bar but could not find it online to book (I presumed you had to book to get entry under current covid guidelines like I’ve done with other places but it turns out you can just turn up here) so instead I booked the sun terrace restaurant and described in the request notes that we wished to book a booth in the rotunda bar not the restaurant. This was booked exactly a week before the date we were attending. I heard nothing from the midland after that so presumed everything was fine otherwise they would have called or emailed. A week later, the date we were due to go I received a confirmation email for my booking. However when we both turned up at 7pm the staff informed us they don’t take bookings for the rotunda bar, it’s just turn up and hope for the best, so of course, even though we had ‘booked and confirmed’ our places a week in advance, all the spacious booths were taken which was very disappointing. The man I spoke to informed me they had tried to call me twice that same day to explain, which I understand, but what I couldn’t understand is why if they couldn’t get hold of me they didn’t send a follow up email which I would have checked sooner and why they would leave it so last minute to inform me. If they had emailed me about the booking in the 7 days between booking and arriving rather than the same day, I would have had time to rearrange to eat somewhere else where we could book better seating. As it was, we had to take a small wobbly table near the bar with people constantly walking past. We did enjoy the food and drinks and the waiters were very attentive constantly checking if we were being served which I can’t complain about, it was just a shame we got so little notice about the table.

Popped in for afternoon cocktails at the Rotunda Bar. Felt a bit like being in a Poirot TV mystery. The Margaritas are delicious - zingy, dry with a generous rim of salt. But you must sit at the bar to get the full effect and atmosphere.

Couldn’t believe the amount of food we were served. I had the meat platter and was struggling to eat it all. Husband had shrimps on toast but they didn’t have much taste. Son had nachos and that was a massive portion, felt guilty sending food back. We sat in a booth which was nice and cosy and you could still see the sea.

This is a lunch only review, we didnt stay. First impressions weren’t brilliant....kitchen or waiting staff smoking outside the building never appeals to me, or shouts quality. The good points were the food and the speed/efficiency of service in the bar. The bad point was that we would rather have preferred to have been in the conservatory/restaurant area overlooking the promenade/sea. That wasnt possible as lunch service finished at 1.30pm (a bit early??) and we didnt want afternoon tea. Surely when demand is low (the place was nearly empty) bar food could be served in other areas? Or serve lunch a bit longer when there was clearly a full kitchen staff. We also thought the bar was looking very tired as were one or two other areas - its some years since reopening and the shine is starting to dull. I could have rated this average but the overall experience was a little higher. Just.

Having read so much about this iconic building and its refurbishment a few years ago, I was really pleased to get the chance to call in for coffee while on a short visit to Morecambe recently. Perhaps I was expecting too much...The building is undeniably stunning, but the exterior is no longer pristine, which really shows up on a building of this nature. The interior is also showing signs of wear and tear, and lacked the feel of luxury and glamour that I had expected.Coffee in the Rotunda Bar was also a let-down. Three members of staff were chatting as we entered, but we were told to 'decide what you want and then order at the bar'.When my latte arrived the spoon provided dropped straight into the drink as it was too short. The waiter laughed and said: "That's because we don't have any of those long ones left," and didn't offer any help in retrieving the spoon. Then when we opened the little packet of biscuits provided with each drink (there were three of us) we found all the biscuits to be broken. In fact, mine were not just broken but smashed to smithereens, so I took them back to the bar and was given a replacement - only to find these biscuits were also broken.Admittedly, these are only minor niggles but in my view highlighted a lack of customer care and attention to detail, which spoiled my overall impression of the place. Would I return for a meal or a stay? Probably not...even for a coffee!

My wife and I had meal here about two years ago which we enjoyed: a seafood platter & a vegetable platter with generous portions of quality ingredients. Had the same about a year ago and found it wasn't quite as good (but passable), thinking we might have just hit a bad day. However, when we ordered the same again a week ago, it was very poor.My seafood platter had smoked salmon which was ok, Morecambe bay shrimps were good but a very miserly portion for the price; the fishcakes were an absolute joke: two "fishcakes" the size of button mushrooms and completely tasteless. The mackerel was very strong-tasting, repeating on me all night and upsetting my stomach - obviously well past the use-by date!My wife had the vegetable platter: the hummus had an unpleasant aftertaste (past it's best-before date?), the chickpea with tomato dish tasted like a cheap tin of chickpeas had been mixed with a cheap tin of chopped tomatoes and nothing else, the spring rolls were passable but again miserly small; there were some slices of Italian-style bread, but no additional flatbread as stated on the menu; both our "salads" consisted of nothing but a few wet leaves with no discernable dressing.Unfortunately only after she had finished eating, my wife notice that, apart from the flatbread, the special cheese that should have been part of her platter was also missing. We pointed this out to one of the waiters, whose response was that he was not authorised to deal with this simple matter !!, and that he would have to find a manager (from somewhere, as none was around). Because service had been very slow it was getting late, and as we had to rush to another engagement, we declined having to wait for this manager, writing this terrible meal off to experience.A couple more observations: it was busy and staff at the Rotunda bar were rushed off their feet, whereas down the corridor at the restaurant bar bored staff were kicking their heels. Overall the Rotunda looked dirty and the decor worn and shabby. This place really is on its way down! Finally, whereas at some establishments the management always reply (especially to bad reviews), the manager at this place obviously couldn't care less.

Great bar on the promenade at Morecambe. Great for a drink out in the sun on an afternoon walk. Or as part of The Midlands Hotel a great place for a drink or two at any time. Quite unique inside with a round bar and quirky seating areas.

We have posted a separate review of a stay at the Midland, of which I'm afraid the Rotunda Bar was the worst part, despite its amazing views and lovely design.Very young bar staff, in control of terrible music (skipping tracks and changing volume to suit their own tastes), good food but took forever to arrive (but nice apologetic waiter almost made up for the terrible bar staff) and to top it all off, the glass doors were visibly dirty, and the chandelier feature didn't appear to be working.

Nobody in the bar/ cafe when we arrived. Stood an waited at the bar then when someone appeared, we were ignored. Had to call excuse me to get their attention. Ordered coffee and cake. Coffee arrived but no sign of any cake. Nor any sugar. No staff to ask at first but got sorted eventually. Only a couple of other people in so couldn’t put it down to them being busy! .Better service (and cake)in Costa so will stick to that in the future. You live and learn

Popped into the Rotunda bar for a hot chocolate which came with a complimentary mince pie. Sat in the bar with a good hot chocolate looking at the drizzle outside. The hotel interior is beautiful - art deco style - especially the amazing spiral staircase. Worth popping in just to look at the interior.

We'd heard of the murals originally painted in the thirties so when we went to Morecambe we had to go and see the Midland hotel. On a windy and wet day it was a great place to sit and have a very nice beer admire the new mural and look out at the sea and sand

Recently called in here for lunch. The food was OK but took a long time to appear. The staff seem to be rushing about without achieving much work. We were given a bowl of chips as a token for waiting for so long. Lovely views over the bay, however, very poor value for money but I guess it’s the place to hang out if you have money to burn.

We visited for drinks, and could not have been more disappointed. The reception staff were vague in directions, we found a place to sit, and this was not cleared until our own drinks arrived. Even then the table was never cleaned, and I ended up doing it myself. Never before have I had new drinks placed down on a table still full of dirty cups from previous guests. We still had the receipt of the previous guests around!

The restaurant is located on the sea front of the Midway Hotel Morecambe. It offers a range of spirits and beers along with snacks and steaks. The most posh place to enjoy food while also watching the stone jetty and the beach. Both indoor and outdoor dining spaces available. The comparably high prices are worth the value considering all these.

I took my mother here to celebrate an event which was at the same time as the style event. This hotel of course is an art decor jewel and the refurbishment of this bar is very well done. The menu is interesting - I had the excellent platter complete with a scotch egg done in black pudding! Not cheap, but well worth it as a treat. Although the place was literrally busting due to the event, we did not have to wait too long. The teas was also served properly in a china tea pot which had to de strained when poured.

Visit this bar regularly in the evening during summer months. Sitting outside on a nice evening can't be beaten, one of the nicest views watching the sun go down in the country. Drinks are not cheap but are an acceptable price for the venue. Sadly service is always rather slow.
