Rooms are lovely and the location is just perfect, but it's the history and the staff who make it so special: they really couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. I hope we get many more happy visits!

Loved our stay here. We had a double room, which was adequate for a 1 night stay. Very clean. No issues at all. Perfect spot for exploring Lancaster. We parked in the car park recommended, which was a short walk. Quirky hotel. Felt very comfortable & relaxed here. All the staff we spoke to were lovely. Especially the young lass in the morning when we were checking out. (Unfortunately we didn't get her name). We would definitely stay here again.

Location of the hotel is great, if a little noisy on a bank Holiday weekend. The reception staff while polite, were lacking in basic communication skills and as a result came across as unwelcoming. The same can be said of the breakfast staff. If I were in management at this hotel perhaps this could be fixed by some basic customer service training. The room was fine however the shower temperature was either scalding hot or icy cold, this can be fixed but should have been spotted in a simple management periodical inspection. Overall a somewhat disappointing stay.

Perfect location in Lancaster for visiting the city. Opposite the Castle and the shopping area with a large choice of good restaurants and fast food places. Quiet rooms, confortable beds. Excellent breakfast.

Room was excellent as always. Did have a ocuple of issues this time. First was the fact that there was a sign at reception, indicating that late checkout was £12.50 during March, and the receptionist wanted to charge me £15. Eventually this was resolved. The second issue was the fact that I placed a order for room service through the phone app, but for some reason this was never received by reception. Not their fault, but perhaps the app needs looking at to solve this issue. Other than these two small things, I enjoyed the stay, and I will point out that after staying on a few occasions, this is the only time there has been any issues.

Me and the wife had the 2 course pre- theatre evening meal yesterday 17th Dec. From entering the foyer the welcome was as warm as the lounge area! Lovely bar staff and maitre de. Waitress service was attentive and friendly. Food was well presented and piping hot. Portions were adequate and not overbearing. Thanks Royal Kings Hotel Brasserie for a great start to our evening.

Went to the restaurant located inside the hotel, after searching for it and being redirected elsewhere. Not enough signs as to where it is. Friend was served an undercooked lamb shank which was sent back, received another one which was cooked but she battled with it to get the meat off the bone! I had the chicken and mushrooms and after leaving the restaurant promptly rushed to the loo twice. Say no more! Couple on table next to us had to send their steaks back as they weren’t cooked correctly. Waitress was excellent it had to be said. Won’t be returning. Evening spoiled as had to go home, ill.

Came to celebrate my mums 80th birthday, the waitress brought our tea and coffee, there was no tea in the pot just water , my coffee was lukewarm 5 mins later the waitress came back told her there was no tea in the pot she said pardon so told her again she looked in the pot and just mumbled something, I asked for a jug of boiling water as my coffee wasn't hot her reply was it is hot that's how it comes out of the machine she took the coffee away and came back with a fresh pot it was a little hotter but I still had no pot of hot water so I said can I have one I was told it would still be the same temp as the coffee , when it arrived it was definitely hotter and I used it to heat the coffee in my cup. The sandwiches weren't up to much my mum dosent like horseradish or mustard but the had already been put on the beef and ham (wherever we have been before the sauce were brought in little dishes to help yourself) the cakes were very tasty but we are very sorry to say we won't be back

The Brasserie was the perfect place for us to hold our celebration. The room had been set out beautifully and we were able to add our own decorations. We were a party of 29 and all enjoyed main course and desserts from the Sunday lunch menu. The prosecco and white wine was served nicely chilled. The service was excellent. Many thanks to all the staff involved for your hard work.

Our visit A birthday meal with 7 friends (empty restaurant other than us). Food Shocking for the price. The salad was dry, the triple cooked chips were highly crisp and my girlfriends meal was missing bits. Drinks Average, no beer available on tap downstairs. Staff Very nice although they came across as very inexperienced with no one more organised / on the ball knocking about. To summarise If your a fan of poor food and service go for it. If not then there are plenty of better places in Lancaster to go for.

The Brasserie is a lovely decorated restaurant that played smooth jazz throughout our visit. As a birthday meal out, we were excited to try somewhere new in town. The first waiter was prompt at taking our drinks order, but barely apologised at the lack of gas (so no draught ales) and didn't know too much about the bottled beers. Two couples order the charcuterie boards. The "ciabatta bread" was toasted and sharp, so it didn't make for a pleasant bite. It snapped rather than crunched... And the rocket wasn't dressed, so we were eating dry leaves. After this, the second waiter came to apologise that there wasn't any creamy polenta to accompany the main, wild mushroom ragu, so he offered mashed potato or rice. When this meal turned up, there wasn't any of the vegan cheese or rocket, which was also supposed to accompany the meal. What a waste of money, knowing that vegan cheese can be fairly costly. Nobody came to ask the party if the food was alright. We weren't seen to for a good 30 minutes, despite being the only people in the restaurant. As well as the ragu, the steak dishes were underwhelming as well, even these salads weren't dressed. Dry leaves make for a sad meal. We are sorely disappointed as we were really looking forward to the food here. The waiting staff were pleasant but didn't have the experience or training that they really needed. A memorable moment: "What's the cheesecake of the day?" "Oh, it's JUST the new york cheesecake. Just vanilla." - Don't undersell your food! Just vanilla is still great!

Booked the boozey afternoon tea for 9 people for 2pm. Bearing in mind that we had pre-odered the food prior to our arrival date. We got there and the hosts had no idea what they were doing. The prosecco was flat and we didn't actually get our food til 2.45pm and it was only because we questioned where the food was. The staff were in no way under pressure, as we were the only ones eating or rather waiting for food. The food was terrible. On the vegatarian platter, there was a sandwich which was tasteless and unrecognisable. I can only think it was hummus without the garlic and there was a strange yellow slice of something which I can only describe as a soggy yellow pepper, which was also tastless, so I don't actually know what it was. The scone was flat and overcooked and resembled a bisuit and for the size of it, there was just far too much cream and jam. The setting was lovely but just didn't depict the food or service. I will in no way be returning to this awful place.

Dropped in for lunch while visiting Lancaster. They were only serving the Street Food menu which was fine but after being told they had everything on the menu and ordering 5 noodle dishes we were told 40 minutes later that they didn’t have any teriyaki sauce. There was no apology and we waited a further 20 minutes for our food. Then when the noodles finally did arrive one of the dishes wasn’t even cooked. We were offered alternatives but we felt it was probably safer to avoid ordering anything else as we had already waited an hour for our food. The duty manager didn’t seem to want to take responsibility for the poor service and blamed the inexperienced kitchen staff. An all round poor experience. The photos of the food on the website are extremely deceiving. AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU LIKE WAITING FOR AGES OR BEING IGNORED

I went here for lunch with my friend. It was quiet but a sign of the times. We were greeted by a very warm and friendly member of staff. The staff were attentive throughout. There was a slight confusion of which menu was being used as I did initially order pasta but I was happy with the menu change as I changed my order to duck rendang curry. The duck curry was a great consistency, good quality duck and a tad spicer than when I ordered it as a delivery a couple of months ago but not hot , the flavours were great. Very good portion. My friend ordered the open salmon sandwich with hallomi fries. I had a couple of glasses of sauvigon blanc and its one of the vest quality glasses I have had in a restaurant. My husband came to join us after lunch for a drink and there was no problem there and accommodated quickly with a chair. He had beer which he said was amazing. It was called a heverlee. Hdowns guest reviewer- Server was nice and very keen. The open sandwich was nice. Shame the place was so quiet.

My boyfriend and I visited to take advantage of the “eat out to help out” scheme, and the 50% off is the only thing that saved the night. We waited over an hour for our food, and were starving, only to be presented with a measly portion that did not take up half of an average sized plate. My duck was supposed to be served pink, however it was very much grey. I can only assume the rest of my duck breast was burnt to a crisp and discarded as only two slices of duck lay on my plate. If that’s how overcooked they serve it I’m not surprised it took an hour to cook. My boyfriends pork was apparently very tasty although similarly small. Desserts sounded nice but we didn’t bother sticking around to find out. We went and got an actual potion of food elsewhere after. I can’t complain in the slightest about the front of house staff. They were very friendly and apologetic about the wait time, and took our drinks off the bill. Overall staff were lovely but the food was rather disappointing. Glad we didn’t pay full price I would’ve been very upset. (Also no picture as I was too hungry to remember)

We popped in yesterday for Sunday lunch and it was delightful! The Brasserie itself is wonderfully decorated and the live music added to the ambience, and made for a really lovely lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff who clearly had a good working relationship with one another, as well as being warm and welcoming to us. Although we were served by many people over the course of our meal, no problems with service arose as each and every person was friendly and accommodating. We both decided on the Cumbrian Topside Beef for our meal and it was delicious! The beef was cooked wonderfully and we were left feeling completely satisfied. I wish we’d had room for dessert as they looked lovely to - it will be an excuse to go back again. We would both recommend The Brasserie for a meal as a couple or for a larger party as the atmosphere is too good to miss. We’ll certainly be going back again!

It's been refurbed nicely and looks attractive. My husband ate there at lunch with friends soon after it re-opened and was so impressed he took me for my own lunch date. I tried not to show how underwhelmed I was but several things.... The staff at reception were so busy in their own conversation, they ignored us for several minutes; the lunch plate, described with their own special effect fried onions, forgot to include them; when I asked where they were, I had to wait for them to be cooked specially and they arrived piled on a side plate, nice but by that time the (average-tasting) steak was well cold. We were asked if we wanted a desert menu, but then had to wait a further 15 mins for it to be brought by someone else on second asking. Menus were already rather dog-eared and stained. Not a special outing at all, mainly down to very poor training of the staff.

Four of us dined here on a Friday evening. We were warmly and politely greeted at the bar area on checking in. We had a pre meal drink in a comfy and discreet bar before being seated at our table. The brasserie area was tastefully decorated with decent background music. The food we had was of a very high standard, attractively presented and tasted superb. I had chicken supreme and the others in my group had fish and chips and monk fish. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they had. All the staff we came across were extremely polite and very eager to please. I would have no hesitation to go again or to recommend to anyone wanting an evening of good food, reasonably priced in a nice environment.

From going to The Brasserie last year several times, the experience is now a disaster. Too many things are wrong but probably start with the top management together with the kitchen. Last night’s meal in the Brasserie was in no way a ‘celebration' of New Year. There was absolutely nothing ’special' about it. With only 16 customers, the atmosphere was flat in the extreme. On arrival the glass of champagne was warm and flat!A first course was substituted even though you’d had our order for weeks. The main course was fine. The desserts were awful. One was substituted and I choose the Poached Pear! Quite the worst dessert I have ever paid for! The Pear was flavourless, presumably poached in water, the Crumble uncooked and the deep fried!! Ice Cream tasted of fatty oil!The Pannacotta was so stiff the spoon could stand up in it!

Thought we would try the Brasserie for Sunday lunch, after a moderate wait our orders were taken, two roast beef dinner, food arrived, well presented possibly not hot enough for some but ok, more art than substance, one carrot and one slightly overdone parsnip, small amount of gravey and two roast potatoes, tasted good and general food selection was ok, found price slightly higher than other local establishments but not over the top, so depends what you want, upmarket or traditional and pay accordingly, could do better hence average review, would try again though

Went for pre ordered meal at the royal kings arms in Lancaster and it was a disappointing evening. The party was good due to the people there, I mean the delay in food and confusion. People got the starters fine I think. Never heard anyone complain. It went down hill from there. I had my main meal everyone had finished and my wife’s risotto and my mums did not come for nearly half an hour after everyone had finished they where starving. could you explain why this happened? It was like they forgot there meal. It had been pre booked so this should not have happened. Had the orders for a week. Everyone had finished there deserts and mine came again ages after approximately twenty minutes, massive wait. Again can you explain why this happened? The staff where pleasant but unable to sort out the issue quickly. Service was poor. No draft beer downstairs so people where having to go upstairs for this. (Pipes being cleaned) A lot of people unhappy with a main meal The prawn dish lacked prawns. Also not what it states on the menu. The member of staff got a menu and this was pointed out to the staff member and they could not argue. Three prawns in the whole dish. Most of the dishes lacked prawns.

Flabbergasted at the poor customer service here. Staff were pleasant but had no idea how to handle a nicely- made complaint. Meal came minus the main ingredient. Staff went to check it out and 20 mins later I was still waiting, none the wiser. They took 10% off the price of my meal meal, even though it was untouched and I hadn't had a replacement or even an explanation. Manager finally the meal off the bill and offered 25% off drinks on a future visit but it was a bit too little too late and too much hassle. The other meals were passable but the vegan fish and chips were yummy. Please train your staff properly.

Lovely, greek salad for starter which was a huge portion, lovely dressing and yes, there was actually good quality vine tomatoes mixed in with salad, a rareity, I find these days, they seem to have cut toms out in many places. Partner had nicoisse salad, like a small meal on it's own, also with lovely toms. Mains very tasty, thai chicken with thai veg and rice, in a lovely sauce. If you live in Lancaster or Morecambe give it a visit, they've spent loads of money doing everything up and if we had had more time we would have had a drink in the newly refurbished crypt bar. My family and I visited The Royal Kings Arms Hotel today for Sunday lunch to celebrate my mother in law's birthday. We have been to family weddings, celebrations etc held at this prestigious city hotel in past years. However, sadly we had not visited it for many years because it was run down and tired and did not have a great reputation for food. Lately we heard that it had been bought out and had had a major refurbishment and that the food was excellent. Having loved this hotel so much we decided to give it a go and we were not disappointed. My husband parked around the back in their car park which is extremely rare for a hotel in Lancaster city centre to have its own car park! There is also an entrance from the car park which is easy accessible for wheelchairs and also a downstairs toilet. We were greeted by two lovely, friendly restaurant staff and shown to our seat by the window where we were able to watch the world go by! We were not rushed to order our meal. My husband and mum in law ordered the Roast Beef dinner, my daughter ordered the Club Sandwich and I ordered the Spanish Pancakes. One course filled us up, all was delicious, plentiful and not overly priced. The decor in the hotel has been tastefully done and I loved the many chandeliers. We will definitely be visiting again and have already booked for Christmas Day Lunch 2019

The service was better but then there was only three tables occupied. Not returning.

My wife and I visited on a Sunday evening on impulse, having been out for the afternoon. We knew the place had had a recent refurbishment, so we're intrigued as to what we would find.

My husband and I were delighted by the warm welcome recieved on entering the establishment, by a lovely gentleman called James. We were not disappointed by the great level of service maintained by him amd the other staff members right throughout the evening. My lemon sole was fresh and well presented and my husband throughly enjoyed his steak (and the wine recommendation James made to go with it). You guys have done a great job with the refurbishment, we will definitely be back.

Probably the worst food I have ever tasted. Staff are lovely. The interior is well furnished. However I have never tasted sole so bland in my life. Who the hell roles up sole. The delicate flavour was complete annihilated, because of the form they were in. My father had raw lamb which he had to send back. Even though there were complications with the food. We got free desserts so the front of house are making up for what the chefs lack in.

My wife and I are very lucky. We've had the pleasure of eating at some of the finest restaurants, not only in the UK, but around the world.... But have often had to stump up a great deal of money for this, our little pleasure. This evening, we chose to eat at this place, basically because we both fancied steak, Lisa the rib eye, me the fillet.... and because we've eaten here several times, yet to be disappointed. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, the accompaniments that came just enriched the dishes / flavours to a level that for the price, was simply incredible. The presentation, (given the "eyes" eat first) was to die for, and I have to say, given from what I am led to believe, a fairly young chef, a fantastic credit to him. I would seriously recommend, if like us, you like a nice steak.... you will not be disappointed.

Well we rang up to book at table and it's midweek so it wasn't busy. We arrived at the venue and we got greeted by a young lady which welcomed us into the restaurant. We sat and ordered some food there wasn't a lot of choice for starters but the mains looked good. The food came and the steak was amazing. The staff knowledge on wine was very good even though she didn't drink it. Overall great experience and would recommend

Firstly I'd like to say that this bad review wouldn't have been even put on here if it had been handled correctly while I was there. Unfortunately my problem was dealt with an inexperienced waitress who unfortunately stumbled on wording and made the situation worse!

The refurbishment of this restaurant has been done very tastefully, it had a lovely atmosphere. The menu was varied although it was littered with spelling and punctuation errors, despite being professionally printed. After an excellent sharing platter as a starter, we went for the Sunday roast - this was a complete disaster. The beef (advertised by the waiter as medium rare) was tough and over-cooked, the mashed potato was sloppy and tasteless, the broccoli was uncooked, and everything was cold. When we sent the plates back, they came back microwaved rather than fresh, making the beef even tougher and the Yorkshire pudding rubbery. We were told that a fresh meal could not be provided, although they graciously did not charge for the uneaten meals. The waiter was very helpful and polite, apologising profusely for the substandard meal. The people around us, eating lighter meals from the menu, seem to have had a better deal.

Myself and my husband started coming here for lunch as soon as the the refurb was completed. The food is so delicious and it has been decorated to a high standard. Some music is very cool , 20s esk. Slightly old fashioned music but suitable to any age group. lots of light with the big windows where you can watch the world pass by ! Very smart and well mannered staff. It really is lovely.

Came here for a Sunday lunch at 2pm. They had run out of the pork but offered chicken, which was fine. Waited over 30 mins (we were one of three tables). The meal was well presented and had a good choice of vegetables and a small chicken breast. It was very tasty. One of the three roast potatoes was inedible as it appeared to have been deep fried and was just solid. The strangest thing was that instead of a Yorkshire pudding, there was an overcooked omelette in the shape of a Yorkshire pudding! As the waitresses were not present unless actually serving, we were unable to query this until we went to pay. The girls clearly had no idea what we were describing, so I can only presume that the omelette was in fact supposed to be the Yorkshire pudding! Someone obviously forgot to add flour to the mixture. Service was courteous but slow, the setting was lovely. We would go back again, but probably not for the roast.

We called in for drinks one evening to check out the newly renovated restaurant. The decor is very tasteful and the staff were very friendly. The wine was reasonably priced. There are opening a Champagne Bar soon which will be worth a visit. We checked out the restaurant menu and decided to come for lunch the next day. The menu is very varied, they offered either a Brunch Menu or the normal Brasserie Menu. Both menus were well priced for such a lovely place. Well worth a try if you fancy great food, decor and staff. They also do an Afternoon Tea menu which I can't wait to try.

I stayed here for about 10 nights whilst working away in July 2018. I came across it by coincidence as I was looking for somewhere to stay as my previous hotel the Toll house was fully booked. The lobby and bar area caught my attention immediately as the interior was very welcoming. After asking if there was any availability I was thankful that there was and decided to check in the next day. When I arrived at my room on the top floor I was a little disappointed at how shabby and basic it felt, as my expectations had been quite high after seeing how lovely the foyer and bar area had been. Also in comparison to how nice the rooms where at the Toll house I was a little let down. Then I realised I was probably spoilt with how nice my previous room had been. However I must admit I found the bed very comfortable and although there was no air conditioning and the temperature during my stay was rather warm, I slept rather well most evenings. I noticed however that despite my bed being made each day, some of the waste empty bottles of Ribena, etc had not been removed after 3 or 4 days. To add to my dismay on the 4th day of my stay I noticed that there was no hot water, not even luke warm, I thought to myself it must be a one off but the day after it continued to be the same. I reported the problem to reception who told me that someone would have a look at it during the day. When I arrived back at tea time the problem was not resolved and I had to make do with a freezing cold shower- not ideal when I’d been working all day in blazing heat sweating like crazy in overalls. I reported the problem again to reception and was told that it couldn’t possibly of been cold since Friday as the problem was only apparent from Saturday, making me feel as if I was lying about the whole situation? Why on earth would I lie about this? I argued the point and they apologized and offered me complimentary breakfast, which I refused as 1, my work would be paying for this anyway, and 2, I was up and away in a morning before breakfast was even served. They assure me the problem would be fixed later that day, but lord behold, again it was cold. I complained again and asked them if they could at least compliment me a couple of beers and the manager on reception agreed and told me I could have £20 a night for each night I was without hot water, so a total of £60. I thought this was a good gesture for them to do for me and soon enough the hot water was back running. On my day off I managed to get full English which was freshly cooked which I must say was fantastic, the sausages were great and tasted like they had been sourced fresh from a local butchers! However my evening meals were not always great, and I had a couple of poor meals here which I was quite disappointed by, as again judging my interior you expect great quality food. If you can afford the fillet steak I would definitely recommend. The only other bad point I would say is the car park. On several occasions during my stay I woke up to find my van was blocked in by another vehicle, resulting in me being late for work on one of those occasions, while the person’s keys could be found by staff and the car moved. This was quite frustrating as I’m sure you can imagine. Overall not a bad stay and some of the staff were very lovely and pleasant. A big thankyou to Danielle especially for going out of her way to help me with directions on how to get to the Grand theatre. As one evening I had planned to go and didn’t have a clue how to get there, yet she went out of her way to make me a map! Overall would stay again with work as not a bad location. Thanks again.

On the wettest night in Lancaster in years this restaurant was a haven of comfort and rest. There were few people in the restaurant and I was soaking wet. I was treated with consideration and able to relax and take my time without being pressured. The staff were attentive. I will be very happy to go to this restaurant again.
