The total of my computer generated bill was higher than the sum of the items listed on the bill, but I only found out later. 4 emails and 2 weeks later and they still haven't refunded me. The manager thinks I should pay the bank charges for the refund, meaning I would receive less than they owe me. It's not a big amount, but that's just shocking customer service. How many other customers have they defrauded?

I selected the mushroom & chestnut suet pudding with veg & chips. whilst the chips and veg were so tasty the suet pastry was like a tough old boot completely inedible rock hard making the filling unsatisfying. I didn't want to spoil the evening with friends (6 of us) so let it pass whilst we ate. I did mention it briefly to staff on the way out to bring it to their attention. lovely staff and lovely atmosphere may I add but very disappointed. linda.

The beers were unbelievable, handsome Brewery and Lunebrewey beers 6 handvpumps on as well This pub has to be an essential visit for real ale drinkers when in Lancaster Wednesday 2nd October 2024 Today, we again had a drink in this Lacter rail ale pub, and it has not changed an apeth from my last time of review so please all keep the good work going and real ales drinkers keep using this essential visit when in Lancaster drinking real ales

My daughter and myself went for pre-theatre dinner on a Tuesday evening and there was a lovely buzz about the place. We were greeted and seated by Hollie (who I believe has only been there for a short time) and she was so polite, professional and friendly. Hollie took our order for food and drinks and made sure we had everything we needed. Martha brought our food over and checked on us to make sure everything was okay - these two members of staff were really good. The food was excellent, very tasty and good value for money too. Hot and well presented. I havent been to the Borough for a number of years but was very pleasantly surprised on how nice it is inside. Hannah (the manager) came over to see if everything was okay and if we were enjoying our meal, it was nice that all the staff wanted to make sure we were okay. We were well looked after and it was very good value for money. I would definitely recommend.

WOW! We were absolutely blown away with The Borough. It has the X Factor as do all the staff who go above and beyond and always service with a smile. Massive thanks to Molly the manageress especially. Couldn’t fault anything. We had the most beautiful room (15) with a supersize bed, big walk in shower, walk in wardrobe on our own landing and stunning decor. The room is just off the courtyard which is a wonderful area for enjoying a drink in the sunshine and a few steps further to the restaurant. The restaurant serves delicious food, lots of variety and reasonably priced. I had one of the best ever rib eye steaks. Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian dishes too. The restaurant has a very romantic feel to it with candles lit for evening meals. Bar well stocked which includes about 40 gins. Luxurious chesterfields to relax and enjoy your favourite tipple in. The hotel is centrally located in Dalton Square and just a 4 minute walk to the canalside and a couple of minutes into town. Overnight parking just down the road. Not cheap but you can park outside the hotel from 6pm to 8am for free. We don't usually go to the same place twice but with this gem we are making an exception. We WILL be back.

We had our wedding party at The Borough, Lancaster, and what an absolutely wonderful time it was! My family stayed at the hotel, which has beautiful rooms (and even a disabled access room with shower for my grandma). We ate at the restaurant and had our wedding breakfast and reception here! Hannah, Molly, Katie, and all of the staff here are such hard working, friendly, thoughtful people, and it was an absolute delight to put my wedding into their very capable hands. The upstairs function room was stunning, our fizz reception was set up outside (which the Borough did as a surprise because we had good weather), the food was delicious, and the portion sizes were generous! Thank you all so so much; we will be raving about the Borough for years to come! And if you want an intimate wedding in Lancaster, definitely consider The Borough as your venue! Gabi & David

Elegant pub hotel with tasty breakfast Arrived late but met very friendly pub staff 🥹. The room is so lovely (and huge!! — coming from London and its vicinity). Wish I could stay longer but… maybe I’ll return to Lancaster next time, even just to stay here! I almost want to keep this gem and only tell family and friends, but the place deserves recognition. Bathroom is spacious with nice amenity. I really appreciate the cookie jar ☺️ and the emphasis on local produce from food to Cumbrian shower gel and conditioner. And I can’t be more grateful for that they kindly allowed me to store my luggage for a few extra days after checking out <3 Breakfast: beautifully presented and of nice portion. Though my egg was fried instead of poached as requested, the skill is not bad. Local sausage tastes delicious and meaty. Mushroom is well seasoned and buttery (something is probably microwaved- ding*). And it’s always enjoyable to have a proper full English with black pudding. Tea and brewed coffee and yoghurt and granola available too. Toast costs extra pound so I’ll save my carb quota for the later conference sandwich at the university. The dinner menu, also with local offerings, sounds quite nice and thoughtful. Sadly I couldn’t make to an earlier train.

Then went tonight for drinks bar staff couldn’t poor drinks lager had to be thrown away as too much froth pint of beer was flat and had to be thrown and re done as hadn’t put sprinkler nozzle not been put on and then got charged for a pint of lager instead of half took 20 minutes to sort difference out absolutely diabolical. A really great experience from booking to checkout. We brought our dog and he also got a very friendly, easy going welcome (he was only charged £10 for the week, it's often per night). Our room was great quality (I thought it had been recently refurbed): big comfy king size bed, marble lined wet room, a telly you can hook up to your phone for all your entertainment (you have to bring the wires). Worried about noise from the bar? Don't be, there's a whole floor of soundproofing between the rooms and the bar, so absolutely not issue. Breakfast was included and you had full access to the regular breakfast menu: from pesto eggs to full English (meat sourced from local farms). Beers were fairly priced at around £4.80 a pint and there was selection of five pumps plus an interesting choice of Bavarian hell and weissbier on draft. Parking was a bit of pain but at the end of the stay I discovered that Ringo/ Lancaster does a weekly permit (search code 4975 on Ringo) for just £27. That just leaves the location, and The Borough is in a fantastic area to discover the whole city. Do book direct but check the price on Booking.com (or other online agents) as if you get discounts then they will match it (I saved £200). Enjoy Lancaster. We ate at Fortune Noodle Bar, Herbarium, Journey Social and Simply French.

Been for a meal with my girlfriend and family. The service took long (received drinks 15 mins after ordering) a member of staff had to double check we ordered drinks it took so long. The starters must have taken about 20-25 minutes to arrive and once cleared the mains must have taken a further 25-30 minutes to arrive. We went later on in the night. Table booked for 8pm so was only a few other tables in and not a very busy service. The food as a whole was not bad by any means. The portion size however was. Especially for main courses. The duck breast dish and the sea bass especially. I ordered a duck breast with the usual veg. For just under £20, the duck arrived and it looked less than my starter. The duck breasts were approximately 1 inch thick and about 3 inches in length. There were 2 of these. As well as a little bit of sauce, 2 tender stem broccoli and about 2 new potatoes. I understand portion control but this by far was a joke. The seabass came with one fillet which size is what it is with sauce on, tiny bit of broccoli and again a few potatoes. Not worth the money. There was also a fillet steak on the menu which I usually go for but unfortunately was £40. I mentioned our unfortunate experience of food to a lady waitress with glasses and black hair in a bun(I think) and her response was “Really??” And then laughed, cleared our plates and nothing was taken further. Safe to say I won’t be returning here anytime soon.

Opted for the chicken parfait followed by the duck breast. I chose the same just over a month ago so felt confident with the taking same decision. Unfortunately that was not the case... Crackers were served instead of sour dough bread with the chicken parfait. No apology or explanation.... The Duck Breast,... whereas a full duck breast was served previously this evening the plate consisted of two slices. So disappointed and will be in no hurry to book again. I complained to both the server and person who took payment but felt to reduce the charge would of reflected on the staffing qualities which were outstanding. Just feel flat whereas should be reflecting on what a lovely evening. :-(

My second stay at this hotel. It has a good location, being just a short distance to the centre and to the rail station. It offers clean & comfortable rooms as well as varied food and a good range of ale.

Harry’s Bar is well and truly OPEN! Went for lunch. The beer selection and wine is great. We both had the fish and chips my wife had the £8 small portion and I asked for mine to be lightly battered the staff said it wasn’t a problem as it’s all freshly cooked.

Lovely staff who made me feel welcome for the brief time I waited for my cod and chips. Really appreciated on a day where I was a long way from home. Tucked down the side street you might miss this and parking was a challenge. But definitely worth the visit
