The Rose of Lancaster in Oldham

Held a small family meal, each ordered different meals. The service was exceptional, a long with the food, considering that there were different meals, the wait for it to come altogether was very reasonably and the food was done to perfection. A great service, great food comfortable surroundings,all in all 10/10. Will be coming again for sure. We'll recommend.

Bland and tasteless Sunday roast, Roast potatoes were anemic looking and hard in the middle, service was good though. Edited in response to your response, the only advise I can offer is don't cook them on the radiator. ...and what has when I got around to posting my review got to do with anything?

All of the food was cooked to perfection and the drinks were cold and fresh.Bacon was a bit too crispy but still good.Burgers are delicious definitely coming again.

Been here many times but was very disappointed with our recent visit, the music was so loud it was only 5pm could have understood if it was later in the evening. I asked the bar man if he could please turn it down a bit as we were trying to talk. He totally ignored my request, so we finished our drink and left. Such a shame as we were also going to order food. Will not be going back. 😒

I usually enjoy the food here but today I ordered onion rings first then chicken and bacon salad which came about 50mins later. The 5 onion rings came at a hefty price of £4.99 making exh onion ring approx £1 each! The chicken and bacon salad was horrible as I was given large pieces of chargrilled chicken which I struggled to cut through and tasted tough and dry so I left it. The bacon was tasty but very little of it and I got minimum of 4 croutons and a fingernail of cheese. I did mention this to the waitress and she apologised. That's ok then!

The food although was excellent was a bit dear. £25 for a lamb shank I think was a little extortionate

Pre-ordered meal took three quarters of an hour before service. But the restaurant was very busy when we first arrived.

Really nice little pub, with great food, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Although the food is good, the menu is limited and a little overpriced, but still well worth a visit. There is a small car park outside, but this can get busy.

What a shame, I’ve been here before and loved the food however everytime I’ve been in I’ve felt like I shouldn’t be there almost like I’m not worthy of being there and all the family that went with me that said the same thing the man who I think is the manager is rude and has 0 customer service skills my family or I will not be coming back here as I’ve felt this everytime I’ve been in

When you walk into your local and the owner says hello, great!. How rare is that,it's lovely to hear in this lovely pub. Great warmth and atmosphere. He puts in so much effort and you can see the good standards it produces. Christmas menu is lovely. We tried it, its way up there. Other pubs take notice, this is how you do it. Try the dark stout, it's a big hitter. I drink Guinness, it's slightly better. At 6.5abv it's a winner. Give it a try.

This gastro-pub in Middleton,near Rochdale and Oldham, never fails to deliver quality food, drink and service. Highly recommended.

Put on a special buffet for after a funeral at Blakeley Crematorium. Perfect size room, friendly busy staff.

Table booked for 6.15 and have to say our order was taken quickly. Drinks arrived 50 minutes later we asked whe our food would be served. An hour later food arrived, which was not what was ordered. Food luke warm and the vegetable lasange was swimming in oil. If we were give the opportunity we would have shared our experience at the time. It was obvious that the person waiting on our table was aware we were not happy.

Oh god! This has gone down hill ! You can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear! . We took our daughter, husband and grandson . I had to send back my starter it was cold. And the rest was very mediocre , we often go the duckworth arms in Ramsbottoms which is a lees house , it is 100% better than this , actually maybe management should send its kindergarten staff to the duckworth arms for training especially the chefs

I had tofu fajitas and they were edible but bland, not sure how they sucked flavour out of onions but they did. Wait staff however were friendly and helpful

Quite a long wait, starters and pud were great but my main had a taste of food that had either been reheated or kept under the heat lamp too long (chips). Nice place though and I have eaten here before with no issues so maybe just a one off.

Went for a drink with my daughter after an 8 hour drive to visit her at uni. Asked at the bar for a plain Bulmer cider. Was given a glass and the bottle, went to our table and poured it. It was a berry cider - really sweet and not what I’d asked for. Took back to the bar. The young man serving said he’d sort it but would ask the manager how to sort it on the till. Manager came out and said couldn’t do anything as I’d taken it from the bar. Explained that I’d poured the drink at my table. Said there was nothing he could do. So left the drink at the bar and went and sat down with no drink. After 10 mins he brought over the cider I’d ordered and paid for, and made a point of telling me the member of staff had had to pay for it. I then felt bad and went to give the young lad money as didn’t want that. He said he hadn’t paid for it. So the manager had made it up to make me feel bad. Really not impressed.

The KITCHEN service was very very very slow .With only 4 other people in the lower eating area and a few on the top section we had to wait 50 minutes for a main course only to be served. It took so long my wife had to leave by taxi whilst I remained to finish my meal and settle the bill. Once again food was good, front of house service was good but a very disappointing delay from the kitchen.

Not been here in a few years. Nice to see not much has changed. Staff are lovely and just want you to enjoy your dining experience. I ordered the Sea bass dish and was pleasantly surprised at having two fillets rather than one, gosh it was melt in your mouth. Along with Garlic (tiny) prawns, sauted Potatoes Broccoli, green beans & parsley sauce it was simply lovely. Now I'm a pudding girl always have been and so was happy to see one of my favourites Sticky Toffee pudding with Custard. I was slightly disappointed at the portion size as 4 mouthfuls and it was gone that's my only criticism. Had there been a bigger portion that extra star would be there. Would definitely go back but opt for the other pudding my friend had. His portion was big.

Came with my friends for an early evening meal. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and generous portions. Would recommend.

When I recently left a negative review on our experience here, I was emailed asking for my number to “discuss my comment” to which I responded with my mobile phone number and received absolutely nothing! That was 8/10/24 it’s two weeks later

Clean, tidy, well run and food was great

Was in the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and we had a great time. Food was excellent and the place was very busy.

I like this pub. Main room is set up for food really but the staff are nice and the food was ok really. Been in twice in a week and can't complain. Had a tower burger it was really good but the messy fries were lovely. Called back in for more of them 👌

Personal opinion but the menu isn't as appealing as a Couple of years ago,when chicken in a basket and meat chilli used to be an option. Thanks for adding chicken in a basket to the specials menu, my wife appreciated it. I can also recommend the steak and ale pie 👌 The service was excellent thanks.

Great pub with friendly staff and great food, nice outdoor area as well. Dogs are also welcome in the vault and outside area.

Came to the rose of Lancaster for a quick meal with my partner and was also about to enquire about a wake for 100 people in the next coming week. Upon arrival I was asked to remove my cap to which I did no issues, the waitress then sat us at our table and poured the drinks. Whilst sat with the menu deciding on the food, the waitress returns with our drinks and then tells us we need to go and sit in the bar side as I was wearing a pair of essentials jogging bottoms. I don’t by any means dress scruffy or shall I just say it…..like a chav, we then got up and left as it seems to be ok to wear your work clothes in the bar and as stated we where planning the wake and trying to have a quiet bit of food and it was loud with the work lads having a drink after work. I’m actually shocked by this, it’s a JW lee’s pub in the middle of Oldham, I’ve never been asked to leave a table in my life and I work, eat and live in one of the most affluent areas of Manchester. Safe to say I won’t ever return to the rose and I’m sure they’ve lost a lot of business over behaviour like this including the group and day we had planned

Food in this pub chain is never great but for what it is, they serve it well here. Sat outside and quite a few tables were messy fir sometime but eventually someone came to collect glasses and tidy them up. Bar staff all very nice.

Awesome place fantastic food, friendly staff, 1st time visit, we came from SOUTHPORT, there was 6 of us 4 adults, & 2 children, nothing was to much to ask for... It was a 73rd birthday celebration & 2 fathers Day celebrations... I would highly recommend....

Wow! the landlord is a law unto himself! Having drinks with a friend during a Monday afternoon with a friend to be told I was ‘making other customers feel uncomfortable’ pub was pretty much empty. Had just sat a chemistry exam and was having some down time. Spent a fair amount for a ‘quiet’ Monday’ afternoon. All other staff were lovely and friendly. Think the landlord needs to get over himself. Very bad attitude!

Great staff, great value on a Wednesday. We visited on Wednesday lunch time which was quite busy. The service was quick by friendly, well trained staff. The food was really good, tasty with great portions. I had cheese and onion pie with mushy peas. There is a choice of gravy or cheese sauce. I had the sauce it was lovely. The pie was one of the best I’ve tasted. There is a Wednesday deal of pie and drink, which makes it incredible value. My friends had lasagne which they said was delicious. It wasn’t so easy to pay individually at the end, their system struggled to do this. But, they found a way to do it. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely pub.

The management and staff make families very welcome, good food and drinks with a friendly service, ideal for a drink and food with friends, in a relaxing atmosphere. The manager does his best to keep standards up and idiots and fools are not welcome!

Just back from the Rose,i must say this wasn't one of our best visits. We were here for a family meal,we arrived around 4.30pm,nice warm sunny Sunday,few drinking outside,few watching the last games of the football season in the back room,then the lower restaurant wasn't overly busy/we did have a table booked. We were shown to our table & our drinks order taken,looking at the menu,i didn't fancy a big meal,so went for the grilled cajun chicken,a fish & chips, seasonal salad with seabass,chicken flatbread with sweet potato fries,couple of children's meals.. Ok so it was a Sunday afternoon,but we did have quite a wait for the food to come out,but not to mind. Well,my chicken was a little bit dry,the fish was a little bit rubbery,not chrispy batter?.. Flat bread was hard around the edges & children's sausage a little bit burnt on the underside... But as hunger had hit us we ate,we did pass comment on the fish to one of the waiting staff . Still we stayed for dessert,2 biscoff cheesecake with honeycomb icecream,icecreams & a coffee with small sticky toffee pudding.. This was the best bit of the meal... Overall,the staff were very helpful,this occasion won't stop us coming back again...

There for the first time with friends our table was booked for 6 30pm we arrived early. Only had one starter came pretty quite. Received our main meal at 7 30 pm didn't like waiting all that time .That said fhe meals were nice when we got them .Husband did complain about the wait at 7 20 ,like I said we got it at7 30 deserts we're quick though .The manager did and say sorry for the delay .Will we go again don't think so .

What a beautiful place! Roomy, warm and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, home cooked, piping hot and delicious! Definitely worth a try, and we'll definitely be going again.

We had the Sunday roast . There where a choice of meats and a good selection of vegetables cooked well.

A group of 10 had a family meal here, it was good service. The menu had plenty of choices to please everyone. I had the steak and ale pie it was nice. Also had the Biscoff cheesecake for desert which was tasty

Love this pub, excellent service and food, good pint of guinness.

I visited last night with my sister and had great meals unfortunately my sister took ill the landlord could not do enough for us helping us phoning a ambulance getting his wife to help as well. Thank you for your help and will defo be back.

Good salad and a decent sandwich, but hot food was poor. Overcooked, dry and portions were very modest. Service was polite, friendly but kitchen a bit slow. Nice and clean. Good easy parking.

The landlord asked me to sit in the other room as he said they don’t allow tracksuits I told him I was not wearing tracksuits as I don’t own one. I was wearing baggy corduroy trousers He still made me sit in the other room Where the walls was covered in mould Bar staff was nice. Landlord needs to sort out his establishment out before judging someone based on their clothes I will not be back

This is our favourite place. Amazing food, attentive staff who work hard and check on you without being overbearing. Manager takes pride In the business and treats his staff and customers well, hence why we return. Atmosphere is homely and friendly. I love that there is a dress code. We always dress up for dinner as you should. If you want to be a scruff and make zero effort stay at home lol.

We've been going to the Rose now for a number of years, and it's still great. It's by far th ebest pub in Chadderton.

Had a lovely meal again. We had booked a table and glad we did as it was very busy. The staff are very efficient . The steak Philly cheese sandwich was lovely and the food is a reasonable price

Would not reccomend, walked in and was ignored by several members of staff. Finally after about 10 minutes someone said they’d be with us in a few minutes. Eventually the manager approached us and told us we could sit in the vaults and eat? Why would anyone want to do that?! And that they don’t allow people to wearing jogging bottoms after 5pm, I’m sorry but who are you to tell people what they can and cannot wear? It’s not exactly like your pub is anything special for people to dress up for food. Disgusting behaviour and an absolute pathetic policy. So we walked out, will never return again and looking at the reviews looks like a lot of people won’t.

615pm on a Friday night called in with Mrs for some tea . I was wearing all black under armour top and bottoms and adidas trek all black no markings or names . Restaurant had two people in it as I enquired about a table I was REFUSED ! Said no tracksuits or trainers . I am 60 years of age 🙄 so off we went . Big mistake I eat out a lot and tip well won’t be back. Your a Lee’s pub with a delusion of grandeur ! In Oldham wow heard it all now . Won’t be back Reply by landlord now I understand and agree he is correct so will change my review to 4 stars Apologies I was wrong in this instance Added to this review was a recent visit when I was dressed appropriately for this pub . Ordered food quick happy staff service not an issue . Pub spotless and obviously kept well . Food though although well presented was just ok not good enough to be on our must go again list . Saw what I can only assume is the landlord in a JW Lees bodywarner chatting with a customer who wanted to book . I’d be concerned large eating space place was empty . Yes nice pub , not cheap , well run but food is average . Example 3 cheese cauliflower cheese an additional charge but boiled florets with a bit of cheese sprinkled on and microwaved isn’t proper food . Landlord get in your car pop up to the church inn uppermill, old pub, not that clean , people rough as toast wear what they want .! But boy is the food spot on .

Go to the Rose on a regular basis. The ambiance is always good and the staff friendly. Anthony is always welcoming presenting good ale and great food.

Just come back from yet another visit to The Rose of Lancaster. As it's our daughter's 13th birthday & only being a stones throw from home,here we are. Seven of us in total,table pre booked for 6pm,we arrived on time & as usual it was fairly busy,between eaters & drinkers. We sat in the lower restaurant area,cosy they say. I had taken a quick look at the menu before setting off,they were still on the winter menu,i decided on the butter chicken, with rice & poppadoms(could do with 2?) A mixed order from,kids burger, small fish & chips,flat bread,lasagne,steak melt,3 other dishes??..with an icecream to finish. Downed with a round of drinks,staff were great as always,nothing is to much trouble. The Rose is always a firm favourite,so I'm sure we'll be back again soon.

Fantastic atmosphere. Got to be one of the best pubs anywhere. What a friendly place. Had fish and chips and they were fabulous.

This is one of the worst meals I’ve ever eaten. I ordered chicken and it was unseasoned and dry, it was really disgusting. We spoke to a young girl and asked her a refund, she said she would get the manager, which was fine. The manager then came over to use and told us not to be rude to his staff, we absolutely were not rude, the only rude person was him. We got a refund and left, I would never ever come back to this pub and it’s a shame because it’s a lovely location but the food was dog meat and the manager was extremely unpleasant.

Bog standard overpriced pub grub with unreliable service hours. They often close the kitchen earlier than advertised because they’re not busy and want to send the kitchen team home rather than pay them. The beer is Lees and therefore good. They bar staff are young and friendly.

Not been here for a few years, due to a really bad meal so thought I would try it again what a transformation, I had the tower burger was absolutely fantastic taste was amazing cooked fresh service from the young lad on 3rd January sensational he will go a long way in the industry , please everyone try this place again you will not be dissapointed at all , well done we will be back
