The Rose Inn in North Tyneside

We have been coming here for a while and the beef in fact all the meats are the highest quality I would have though locally supplied , a good range of vegetables changed regularly and the gravy is excellent I really want to give this a 5 star rating, this is how important people are in a customer facing business We always cringe when the guy with the glasses serves the carvery he hates takeaway customers. We buy our ticket queue with our own plates. The ladies always gives you same amount of beef, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes you would get to eat in Today we walked over and he said ‘’ she’s taking orders again” fuming about our plates going onto the glass shelf above the range. 3 beef, he cuts the beef, puts the Yorkshire on and gives you two scrap end potatoes on all the plates, I mean to the point the equate to one potato, potato crum He was doing this a while back but disappeared, now he’s back making comments in front of the customers, why is he the food police It wasn’t busy it was 2.45pm A while back I actually took some tongs and added some normal size spuds, he looked at me in disgust Please treat takeaway collection customers with a little more respect, it actually makes your life easier, easing the amount of business on the tables and making more room for your eat in customers, more customers creating more turnover for the business, creating more buying power with your suppliers, getting a better deal, in turn a bigger margin I can see your on just eat that will be more difficult to control than collect We get in the car on the way home and it’s not the food it’s excellent, but it looks like it’s our last visit Thank you for all the great Sunday roasts

Food was absolutely amazing, meat was amazing all the food was fresh and piping hot. Visited on fathers day and place was so busy, deservedly as food was outstanding. Only downside is you have to pay an extra £1 per Yorkshire pudding. Will 110% return.

Jilly's carvery is the best, great value for money, generous servings, beautiful meat, lovely draught lager - must be the fizzy widget thing... (Don't change it!) And to top it off a lovely cake selection. Friendly staff. I rate it. 👍🏻 From one Jilly to another.

This is the best Carvery I’ve ever had. The meats melt in your mouth. All the veg is fresh and home cooked as are Yorskshires. Servings are great. Gravy is pure quality. We got there about 12:45 on a Wednesday and it was very quiet but all the food was just cooked which was ideal. The cooks really know how to nail a dinner. For a quiet meal pop along early afternoon but they serve til evening but gets busy. Saw the owner getting all the fresh veg out of his car which is locally sourced so that’s great to hear. Go along to the pub and buy a drink or two, owners are very friendly!

Once again Sunday lunch is fantastic I he ate saying this as means other people will come beautiful meats as and a great selection of veg aswell you just can not beat this place for a Sunday lunch ps it's busy so book in advance but they do a takeaway aswell which is a great option can't beat Jilly's gravy it is bliddy fantastic

Came for a Sunday dinner after driving past for years and wondering what it was like. We were not disappointed! Four of us are stuffed and thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Reminded me of my Grandmas dinners. Fresh veg, loads of meat and delicious yorkies. Will definitely be back. Bring cash though as they don’t have a card machine. They were happy for us to have our dinner then nip to the cash point to pay for it. I’m a veggie so had a massive plate of veg and they made me some veggie gravy. You can also bring your own plate and get a takeaway carvery. There were loads of deliveries going out too while we were here, orders on just eat.

Just had Sunday lunch at this lovely carvery. Proper old school, plenty of meat and unlimited veg etc. crispy Yorkshire puddings and lovely thick gravy. Highly recommended

What a find. Happened to see a pic on Facebook of a hot beef baguette with homemade chips that they served so had a drive over to sample it. However after walking in I saw the carvery on offer, it looked too good to pass up so went for that instead and I’m certainly glad I did. A very generous portion of meat, roast potatoes and a yorkie, then you added your own vegetables which consisted of mash(which can sometimes be a little dry at a carvery not here, lovely and creamy) turnip, carrots, broccoli and cabbage with a lovely tasty gravy. Staff were very friendly, they made us feel very welcome. Even offered us to have our lunch first then nip to the bank for cash as card machine wasn’t working. Could not fault it at all will definitely be back. Massive thumbs up to the owners and staff x

We visited this establishment on Wednesday 6th of July The building itself is most impressive, built in 1913 the interior boasts many original features , high ceilings, original wood behind bar and original fireplace. On entering the lovely smell of the car very greeted up.Apart from the usual Sunday carvery, this is offered a few days during the week. Generous portions of Turkey and beef were given, both very tasty and the beef simply melted in your mouth.In addition there was an array of vegetables in offer,knocked spots off the Toby carvery. We opted for the carvery although an extensive alternative menus is available. The cost was not excessive, for our choices, that is, two carvery options, a pint of orange and a pint of cider for £15.50. Interestingly they have installed a device that fills glasses from the bottom up.Apparently it uses special glasses with a hole in the bottom sealed with a magnetic ring. The empty glass is pushed onto the delivery point which dislodges the seal, a button is pressed and liquid fills the glass from bottom to top. When filling is complete, the glass is lifted off the point, the magnetic seal realigns sealing the liquid in the glass and hey presto, a perfect pint every time They also offer live music night, they have the formula right, good food, moderate prices, friendly staff,good ambience, I highly recommend visit!

I don't know if I was let down due to the fact that people had hyped this place up, either way I was disappointed. The place is so confusing. Terrible layout, maybe it's because of where we were sat, however we had to watch a delivery service while we are. Old Hotel chairs from the 80s nothing matched... Dark, grubby looking and in desperate need of a refurb..especially the toilets... Staff friendly enough. Meat; exceptional. Yorkies- very nice. Veg- fresh, just the way I like it. I ordered 2 beef dinner last sunday, was not dissapointed, they were huge, you caould make 2 dinners out of one plate came on a proper pkate snd not in a box like i have had when oredered from previous pkaces, you got roast pot, mash, broccoli, turnip, cabbage carrots yourkshire pudding 4 big thick slices of beef and lashings of gravy , it was delicioys, all home made, would defo order sunday luch again

We go to the Rose regularly. Lovely friendly staff. Had a Sunday dinner and the food is outstanding. Jason puts on plate meat ,yorkshire and roast potatos. Then you help your self to an array of cooked veg. Always fresh and tasty. Also Rachel behind bar very friendly. We would highly recommend

Food is delicious! The beef and roast potatoes are amazing! All home cooked and huge portions and the desserts are also to die for. The staff here are all hard working and dead canny. Would definitely recommend.

We visit the Rose once a month with our friends who live in Wallsend. I have to say you will never get a better Sunday lunch. The meat, with choices or all of them is delicious. It is a Carvery where you choose your own...

We were recommended to come here for Sunday dinner a few weeks ago and have been back a few times since then! The Carvery is amazing value, particularly as you get massive cuts of meats! The service is fabulous from all staff and Mick is particularly welcoming too.

We returned here after a good value carvery recently. This time we opted for steaks we all had Rump steaks with thick cut home made chips, roasted red pepper, mushrooms and a peppercorn sauce. Everything was freshly cooked to order and the portions were generous, the steak was perfectly cooked and was tasty and tender. We will certainly come back again. Good value food and pleasant service. Beer prices are reasonable too.

got told about the rose inn so thought we give it a try for sunday dinner.and can not rave enough about it .was greeted by a guy called mick even tho we had not booked he found a table no problem. the carvery was amazing meat was think cut and plenty of it .the veg was hot and fresh and the gravy was so tasty and for 7.95 you got your fill we did not try any deserts but they looked real nice but we just could not do it as we were so full.we will sure be back for more.so if you want a good sunday roast i would suggest you give this place a try.we will defo be back

My wife and myself went to the Rose Inn for an evening meal 08/08/19 as Lesley won a competition with them for a meal for two ,Lesley had the homemade Steak Pie and Chips and i had the Mince Pie and Chips , both of the pies were delicious and plentiful and would definitely go again. The chef's cooking was unbelievable delicious

Not only is The Rose Inn renown for its very good home cooked food and desserts (all great value for money) but it also offers special events including a Wednesday evening carvery, Steak Nights very popular Sunday Lunch etc., and many top class entertainments such as tribute acts and top bands both inside and spectacularly outside in the ample space that surrounds the pub. Not only do you get superb value for money and choice of roasts for the Wednesday night and Sunday feasts but also on Wednesday a family friendly general knowledge quiz with great cash and spot prizes.

My husband and I ate here last Sunday with my in-laws and we certainly weren’t disappointed. I can’t recommend this place enough

Booked for Sunday Carvery, 1st visit and we were not disappointed. The portions are huge, food is delicious, beautifully cooked. It makes a nice change for veg to be left as they come and not covered in sauces and cheese (which I hate).

Four of us booked a Sunday Carvery here for the first time. It is a family run pub and at 2.00pm lunchtime it was very busy, with a queue, which later subsided. The carvery offered the largest portions of meat we had ever been served. There were 6 different help yourself vegetables, but unfortunately they ran out of roasted potatoes at one point. That aside we were very happy with our meal. Beers are priced at £3 per pint. We did not have room for a dessert but the ones on display in the chiller cabinet looked very appetising indeed, also these portions looked very generous from what we could see. We would certainly return but would eat a little later, perhaps once the main lunchtime rush was over. Overall a very good value, no frills, carvery meal.

Omg....where do I start? Let's just say, I discovered this Sunday carvery last week with my daughter and I've been salivating over it all week. We HAD to go back today.

Just been here for Sunday carvery and it was the best meal we have had in a very long time. Beautifully cooked meats, gorgeous home roasties and yorkshire puds. Portions can only be described as huge. As for the cakes, words cannot describe them. So light and delicious. The staff and owners are so lovely and just seem to want you to enjoy. Tremendously good value for money and we all came away more than happy. We can highly recommend and will be back.

Came to the rose inn last night with my family for a meal! From walking in the door the staff were amazing! The food is second to none and we highly recommend this to anyone who loves homemade food! Great choice of drinks and food all fresh! We absolutely love it here and returning on Sunday!

We were taken to the rose inn by friends as we were visiting whitley bay and what a treat was in store for us.Carvery with beef or turkey...very generous portions of meat plus a great yorkshire pudding ... and help yourself fresh cooked vegetables and gravy which cost just under £16 for the four of us. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming...cannot wait to return the next time we are staying in whitley bay...bonus for us... it is dog friendly.

Called in for tea and had beautiful hot beef crispy warm bagette with gravy and home cooked chips, followed by homemade strawberry cheesecake that was to die for, always made welcome and staff very attentive. They also have the best carvery around

Fantastic Sunday carvery. I would say this is my favourite place for Sunday dinner. Beef is so tender and the gravy is so tasty. Totally stuffed afterwards with the generous amount of meat and veg. Looking forward to going back again soon.

Me and my partners are regulars here, we hadnt been in for a while due to working away etc and were treated like old friends. The commitment this place has to the customers is outstanding. We attended on a wednesday and had a carvery. The food was amazing As always. Generous amount of meat and extras. We also had a very nice home made dessert which was simply amazing. There was a small queue but it's expected and for the quality of the food its well worth the very short wait. The bar itself is dated but very cosy and we enjoy the look. As for peoples comments about it being "dingy" and having to "queue like homeless people" they really need to get a grip and maybe give feedback in person instead of being keyboard warriors This place is fantastic and we genuinely look forward to the well prepared, tasty fresh food and desserts. Just had Sunday lunch delivered for 5 people. The food was fantastic and plenty of it. 5 clean plates and 5 very happy and 'full' customers. Will definitely use again.

I genuinely do not think I have the words to adequately review this place. We visited here last September after I did the great north run and as I had recommended we meet friends there after reading the reviews I was a little bit wary when we pulled up. I shouldn’t have been - the whole visit then was fab. So fast forward to now - planning a road trip with my husband and son and the first place that came up was to revisit here! Obviously on a Wednesday or Sunday so we could have carvery. Structured our trip to arrive on a Wednesday and we were not disappointed. The food was epic, so much scrummy meat, not the thin slices you usually get at a carvery, proper chunks of meat. Lots of veg and as for the gravy, there simply aren’t any words. I was stuffed but still squeezed in sticky toffee pudding which is my husbands favourite and even he said it was he best he had ever tasted.

Very busy but great food and excellent, friendly service. Highly recommended and good value for money.

Fabulous, fresh, home cooked food no frozen food here. Always a warm welcome by the owners and staff alike. Great value for money too. Oh and I must forget the abundance of equally delicious home baked desserts. Last night I indulded the sumptuous tripple chocolate cheese cake that was both delicious and freshly prepared. Just fabulous keep up the good work. We will be back!

I’ve been to this place quite a few times now with my wife and daughter,in fact we try and go every other week.

We first came to know of The Rose from a recommendation,and with it being local thought we'd give it a try, we haven't been anywhere for Sunday lunch since. All fresh, massive portions & so cheap, only downside is I can't say no to a pud, and jillys cheesecake is out of this world. I'd recommend this place to anyone, and the takeaway dinner is spot on too.

Just had dinner here using the Groupon Steak dinner voucher. Both Jilly and her other half were fabulous hosts. Meal was great quality and lots of it! Really nice evening meal.

Had purchased a groupon voucher for a meal for two. So decided to use it today. We called the Rose Inn this morning to book a table and were told that they don’t normally take bookings on a Saturday , but told us to come along anyway. So we assumed it was because Saturday afternoon/evenings were busy.

Not bad at all. Friendly staff, food nice and great value. Bit of a nightmare not taking card payments. But apart from that everything else was fine. We will definitely be back to try the Sunday lunch.

My son and I recently took up the Groupon option for a steak dinner for two. We've never been before and found the pub to be very nice, a typical old fashioned pub.

Eat here 2.3 times a week the fish and chips are to die for cooked to order so everything is fresh , the Sunday carvery is every thing you would want on your plate love it , staff are really nice and polite and always seem happy prices are really cheap for what you get ,hats off to Jill wish I could cook like her

The Rose is nice pub to eat. Sunday lunch is very nice. It has a nice comfortable feel to it. Staff are friendly and helpful. It has parking and beer garden, so dogs are welcome.

We go for a carvery usually on a wednesday when its nice and quiet and we wouldnt go anywhere else! If you're after fantastic home made dishes then this is the best place around. this is a must for sunday lunch meat fills your plate before you put ventables on also cheep and staff go out of there way to help in any way they can need to book as they get very bussy on sunday afternoon i normaly go about 15.30 gives the mad rush to clear

The Sunday carvery was superb but needs updating inside. Plastic tablecloths on some tables ( Not all) I would give food 5*. Untidy in places food left on window sill.

Late booking telephoned at 1.30 managed to get a table for a 3pm booking. Beef was beautiful just melted in your mouth, vegetables etc cooked the way i like them and proper tasty gravy. Lovely home cooking. Busy but great atmosphere reasonable for price too. Definately worth visiting again.

A warm welcome and friendly atmosphere coupled with excellent food at reasonable prices makes this pub a must visit. The home cooked food is a rare treat in pubs nowadays and the landlord and landlady can’t do enough to make you feel welcome.

This historic old pub is situated on its own at the start of Wallsend Burn (Dene) and offers an excellent base to start or finish a walk or even do a circular walk from. The pub has award winning pies and legendary Sunday roasts, Gill and Michael are warm hosts and also welcome well behaved dogs in designated areas inside. There are regular entertainment evenings and events. Large car park too!

Specialised in doing carverys. Must ring ahead or book if there is a few of you. It's a restaurant/pub with turns on like George Michael tribute acts etc

This pub has the best food in the northeast.the management Michael and Gillian are absolute superstars.nothing is a problem to them.

Popped in with family for the sunday cavery .we all had turkey and beef with all the trimmings £6.99 and it was worth every penny .will be back

Flew over from Spain for Mothers Birthday. Went for Sunday carvery lunch......nothing short of a fantastic meal.Anyone can say they offer a real Sunday dinner....not many can do this successfully..........but, The Rose Inn certainly can. Absolutely fantastic ....value for money, tasty food, friendly staff....we shall definitely be back over Christmas.....oh, and the cakes !!!!mmmmmmmmmmmm

Have had the Wednesday Carvery and now the "famed" Sunday Lunch and can honestly say that you will not get a finer meal anywhere, no matter how much you pay. The food is home made and the service both friendly and efficient. "Jillys" home made pies are to die for and as for a choice of sweets well on the days that I have visited there has been at least 12 different ones to choose from .... and if you can't manage to eat it (which is quite likely !!) then they will box it up for you to take home and have with a cuppa. Fantastic !! Try it ........ might be worthwhile reserving a table if you are thinking of Sunday lunch.

You can't beat homemade grub, and this is as good as your mam's or grandma's. Tasty food and big portions. Can't wait to go back again.especially like the mince and dumplings on Monday nite,and the carvery on Wednesday's.you won't be disappointed for the price. Also leave room for the homemade cakes on offer as pudding.

Visited this pub twice now for a delicious carvery. The meat is beautifully cooked with a good voice of vegetables. Gravy is also very good with homemade roasties and yorkies. Price is very reasonable.

Ate here today, 3 adults. The pub had been burgled but thank god they still opened for business. Cracking Sunday carvery, beautiful freshly cooked veg and the most mahoosive yorkies. Thick, rich gravy which was delicious. Pity there was no wine because of the burglary but had a nice pint of cold cider. Great value, and talking to another lady in the queue it's a hit with the locals. Well done guys after a hideous night. Hubby wants to go back to try the home made pies

Called into the Rose Inn on our way home and ordered food for the wife and I. The staff a were very welcoming and friendly and the meals were grate value, hot and a good size. When we were leaving we saw the homemade pie's and will definitely call back another day soon to try them. I would definitely recommend The Rose, grate food,good service and nice surroundings.
