Lovely little pub in the middle of nowhere

First time here, we booked a table on the day of booking for 5 people on a Sunday with no problems. A nice sized table. Food was very nice and a few good options. Service was good too. Will go back again

Nice village pub. However the service was quite slow. The food order was wrong. The chicken kebabs were slightly over cooked and quite dry, even more so when added to the flat bread to eat. Ordered desserts, waited 15 minutes to then be told that one of the items sold out the day before and to choose something else. Got the bill which had £60 of additional alcohol drinks added to it. Had it corrected but there was still small error but by this time just happy to pay. The waitress found it all quite comical and blamed the till for the errors!

The perfect pub meal in a pleasant surrounding. The service was really friendly. We were recommended this place and will certainly be back. It was worth the journey.

What a great village pub ! Didn't eat but the food looked amazing..... it was quiz night place very busy ....landlord is a great fella makes everyone welcome even if it's your first time there.

We’ve heard great things about this pub and often pop in for drinks which is great and never had any issues. Staff are kind and welcoming. We decided to book for food after hearing great things. Unfortunately we were left disappointed. The service was very slow, the waitresses weren’t fully listening to our drink orders and kept getting them wrong or the wrong sizes, they only came twice to ask for drinks, which doesn’t seem bad, but we were there for three and a half hours, which brings me to my next point, we ordered at around 3:50pm and didn’t get our starters for at least half an hour, we then had to wait a further hour and 15-20mins for our mains, while watching a table get served their food before us with the exact same amount of people and they had come in around 20 minutes after we had been seated. The food was OK, nothing to rave about. We had a pork chop special which one diner said was really good but everyone else wasn’t impressed. The “hanging” halloumi kebabs had absolutely no seasoning on, not even salt or pepper, whereas the hanging chicken ones did, although they were really dry, and one of them didn’t even come out “hanging”. The service was just abit messy and it wasn’t even that busy, which would be understandable if they were fully booked. We may try to come back for their “famous roast” on a Sunday but we are dubious to go for food again.

My other half had this as her local for many years... I'd never been here but took my Aunt for lunch. Very nice staff and very, very nice good. Highly recommend, and all food is locally sourced. 👍👍👍👍👍

Seated at 8pm kitchen shut at 9pm on a Saturday night. Despite booking many weeks in advance. Amateurish and not a proper restaurant. Room for a lot of improvement.

Lovey food, the only complaint is there should be more veg with the Sunday lunch, and sharper knives for the meat.

It was our first visit and an an amazing meal. Highly recommend.

Friendly atmosphere good food and good price

*reviewing an early Xmas meal. It was OK. I had the crab cakes, which tasted nice, but could have been a touch crispier. Main was the Xmas burger. The burger itself was a little over and too tall to eat nicely. The chips were great and the coleslaw was good but different, being flavoured with nutmeg I think. I had a cheese board which was fine, although there was 3x as much cheese as biscuits. Service was mixed, starters came out very quickly, but then a long gap for the mains. (The turkey roasts looked and tasted great and I think that's what the pub is best known for)

Ome of my favourite country pubs. Food is always amazing and the garden is lush!

Drove for an hour to visit, and was not left dissapointed. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The roast has to be experienced, it was spot on. Both of us went for the beef with sides of extra roast potatoes and the obligatory cauli cheese. The finish on the roast potatoes was crisp,fluffy on the inside and the leeks on the side were sublime. We shared the cheesecake dessert. The base was crumbly, this was a masterclass on how a cheesecake should be. The only thing I could comment on is that the roast beef was sliced really thinly, a few thicker slices would have been ideal. But all in all, going here is worth the visit. The staff were on top of everything. A very well run pub, and it's no wonder it was fully booked. Definitely worth a visit.

Whilst the pub was really busy(which is a good sign!) They found us a parking space and served a really good,reasonably priced, meal without any fuss and trauma. We will definitely return shortly. Thanks

I've been here a few times for food and drinks. Above average pub grub and a huge menu. Pricing is very reasonable considering the location. Beer garden is lovely in the sun.

Lovely pub with a good selection of drinks, nice food and a huge beer garden with plenty of outdoor seating. We spent an afternoon here drinking cider in the sun, then enjoyed some great food. The fish & Chips was good, very nice steak burger, and the monkfish kebab was excellent. Excellent value for money considering it's location

This is my kind of pub. The Rose and Crown is located in a lovely part of the countryside with a nice, peaceful beer garden, a cosy interior, a tempting menu and a great selection of beers. The only problem is it's a bit too far from where I live, despite that I will definitely come back to visit when I can.

Hi my girlfriend and I had a Sunday roast on 23rd April we were seated at a nice table for two near the bar the service was first rate the classic roast was perfect the pub is spotless and the staff are charming and efficient i definitely would recommend booking a table there. I will be going back again perhaps mid week to try the other meal options on the menu .Well done. Thomas O’Neill.

Xmas dinner enjoyable. Crab cakes lovely could have done with four rather than three. Xmas burger generous with all the extras but meat slightly over done. Vegan chocolate cake and ice cream fabulous. Will return to restaurant after Xmas. It's a lovely pub.

We ate at The Rose and Crown in Lower Hartlip for the first time recently and were really impressed with the food. There was a good selection on the menu and all the meals were enjoyed, lots of nice flavours and cooked to our liking. As the Public Bar was very busy we ate in the Lounge Bar, this also got busy, as did the restaurant. It was really great to see a business thriving after recent years. I would recommend to book if you have a bigger party. I am looking forward to going back to this gem of a pub.

Hi had Sunday lunch at the pub apart from excellent fooyand service you fitted us in last minute in outside but warm and comfortable had all ages from 7 to 66 catered for us all staff brilliant will be returning well done

This is a lovely little local pub. The food portions were big. The prices reasonable. Food was hot and plenty. The decor was welcoming and warm and classic pub. Plenty of places to sit inside and outside. Little garden. Car park. Worth a visit

The best Sunday roast I've ever had 😋

This was my first time in this pub resteraunt. The food that was served up around looked good was presented well my meal was very tasty and my friend enjoyed thier meal too. Good service very clean pleasant. I will return to try out the Sunday lunch menu often go to local garden centres near there perhaps have treat again.

Great food, great atmosphere, serving staff were very cheerful and friendly. Shift manager was present and helped staff with table service. Great to see. Food was 5 🌟 best in house made burger and steak we've ever had. Wife had the fillet which was cooked exceptionally well, my burger was full of flavour and the accompanying dishes were fantastic. Would highly recommend the rose and crown but would suggest booking in advance as it is popular.

It was all fine and well until the automatic air freshener attacked me while I was going to the restroom. Don’t place an air freshener that sprays chemicals at face/eye level!

Landlord was ultra friendly, sadly the staff were not, which let's the pub down. Not a smile or nice comment from any of them. My partner left a tip, I wouldn't of. Food was OK,, however I wouldn't recommend the Sunday roast, tasted a bit like Norfolk turkey. We came because a friend gave a fabulous review, they did a lunchtime visit. Will revisit, not on a Sunday, maybe a lunch or evening meal. I love the fact the pub is still in business and hope the new owners make a go of it. Maybe some training in customer service would be good.

Went there for my Sunday lunch, had a Lamb shank roast dinner and all the trimmings cooked lovely and very filling didn't have a starter and was stuffed ..

Lovely country pub..very friendly..I had the Duck with potato Rosti,red wine jus and seasonal veg..very nice..went with friends,all enjoyed our dinner,except 1 had Tandoori lamb, said it was very dry...steak pie was lovely,goats cheese salad,was very nice.both couples shared 3 scoops of ice cream, each what a let down,tasteless..wouldn't have the ice cream again!
