History of the Rose and Crown: Charles Mawer, from Lincolnshire, and his wife Mary, moved into a cottage at Wallington Corner, about 100 yards from the Boorne brewery, around 1848. They started operating a beer shop cum grocery from there. The name “The Rose & Crown” was being used by 1861. As soon as you walk through the doors of the establishment, you'll find the staff welcoming & friendly. Great atmosphere & a warm village feel. The decor is modern and comfortable with plenty of seating. A large beer garden with a covered area, plenty of space & seating. Dog-friendly... 🐕 Great menu selection. Definitely will return & thoroughly recommend it.

Attend this public house a few times a week. Food is good and plenty on the plate stuff are always happy to advise on any special needs. The toilets are always clean and smell press unlike a lot of pubs.

Frequented this venue for the past few years. Food is great, staff are friendly and welcoming. The beer garden is lovely too with outdoor heating for the colder nights. The little dogs running around really gives the pub a warm, family feel. Would recommend.

What a Pub! Fantastic beer garden. Has a dart board too, all the staff were really helpful and polite. And on top of this the food was superb. I will defiantly be coming back.

Couldn't rate food or service as didn't eat, not through want of trying. Arrived at just after 3 on a Sunday, food coming out looks nice enough, asked for 1 beef, 1 turkey and a steak pie. Was told on 1 turkey left?! Kitchen is open till 6. Sat and had a drink contemplating what to do when a couple came in 2 mins later ordered 2 Sunday lunches and paid. They obviously have a pre booking system so must know the minimum amount of covers required. Rated atmosphere average neither good nor bad So how do you run out of food at 3 on a Sunday? Badly managed. Also the couple left half their food so maybe not that nice

It was 5 stars in all only that on my previous visit had a response that to let know at reception that I was offered ? From the manager. Otherwise all in all The Best.

It's been smartened up since I used to drink here 20 years ago, but it still has a mediocre selection of beers on. Food looked ok but didn't eat, might go back one day soon and see.

Visited the Rose & Crown this evening. Had a fantastic time and special mention to the owner after being let down by an external beer promotion. Pub is always very welcoming and the pub garden is definitely worth a visit when the sun is shining.

Great staff and wonderful atmosphere during the world cup today. Made all the better that they were dog friendly too. Garden looks like it would be perfect for a warm summer's evening.

Poor quality of food! Hair found in food. Owner didn’t seem to care. Just let his dogs jump up at our table trying to get to out food. Even one of the owner dog bit a member of our group! Been going for many years but definitely won’t be retuning now. No apology from own or chef.

We really enjoy coming to this pub as the garden is brilliant and the staff are so friendly but the three pugs that are the 'pub dogs' are out of control. It's laughed off by the regulars but these dogs attack any other dog that comes in, and bit both me and my husband. I would recommend this pub if you come without a dog, and I would never bring a child here; seeing as they are next to a beautiful park, this seems a real shame.

Popped in Saturday lunchtime had the fish and chips and a mixed grill food was amazing and so was the service very friendly would definitely do again, the homemade tomato soup was lovely, lovely atmosphere

What a Lovley little pub with the friendliest staff, we heard about an open mic night and decided to check it out… such a great atmosphere and the sweet South African bar man was hilarious and made our night… We will be back again look forward to our next visit!! If we could give more than 5 stars we would!

Came to poker night last Thursday and had the house platter before we started playing. The poker was very fun and the house platter was VERY generous and cooked perfectly! Shame I didn’t win the poker but I shall be back on Thursdays from now on! Thank you to all at the Rose and Crown for an amazing evening

Popped in for some lunch. Just lovely atmosphere, friendly and very helpful staff. The food is awesome, thanks chef. Prices are more than reasonable. Ample space inside and out, easily seat a hundred when Covid restrictions lift. At the moment, more than adequately spaced out so that a table of six has all the space to social distance and move around the pub. Awesome outside terrace under cover when it rains. Will definitely be back...again and again. Thanks Rose, you been real good!

Popped in on the off chance we could get a table, lovely pub, amazing back garden, we had the Irish Nacho’s and a sharer platter, the presentation of the food was lovely, a nice lady called Lynne served us. we didn’t wait for drinks at all and they were busy too. Tried to book in but they wouldn't pick up the phone or answer my email. Decided to see if there would be any space on the day but was rudely told at the door they were full and try booking next time. Well I tried to book?!? Won't bother trying again. Would've thought they would try to appreciate customers after lockdown but clearly not.

We visited this pub for lunch.Was impressed with new decor as pub looked tired previously. Ordered food which all 3 meals were cold. 2 dogs roaming freely round the pub jumped up on the chairs and tried to eat off the plates. Dogs were not controlled at all, and staff didn't really care.Would not visit here again.

As previous people have mentioned, we had an issue with the dog going to the toilet. However, in response to the owner that suggested people should go indoors if they were offended by nature, the excrement we found was on the chair in the pub.As we moved tables the bullying owner shouted at us. His colleagues looked mortified and embarrassed. We left. We won't return. I look forward to your comments about how it was our fault and what a world we live in where people can make anonymous comments online etc. Feel free to make a bullying comment about how we are free to message you directly. Do not go to this pub. It's awful. The owner is awful. Life's too short to be shouted at by someone that wants your money/custom.

Heard pub has been redecorated and heard good things so thought we’d try it for a girls catch up drink. Nice inside, great drinks prices but extremely rude and argumentative staff! Will avoid from now on!

First visit here the dog was allowed to roam free around pub and watched it Urinate up the walls, second visit me and my family went to sit down and found dog faeces on the chair. Avoid at all cost! Not very friendly especially the owner.

The pub was itself was presented well; it was cleaned well, maintained beautifully and social distancing measures were put in place which made us all feel comfortable. A very hidden gem found within Wallington!The staff and the locals are incredibly lovey. I've eaten in there a couple of times and have 0 complaints. The space is great and I enjoy the company of the many furry friends

I went to the rose&crown with my family to have a Sunday roast. Extremely good service from the beginning, smiling staff and quick service too! When the food came out I was very very happy with the portion size and the quality of the food. It was absolutely tasty!! I would definitely recommend coming here!

I visited for the first time The Rose and Crown Wallington last Thursday to catch up with some friends. The beer garden was one of the best I have been to in this country. The friendliness of the staff outstanding - nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing. A very varied menu. Every dish we saw that came out of the kitchen looked good. Corona virus was taken very seriously. I highly recommend this pub and hope to visit again soon.

Booked lunch at 1pm with 2 friends, both pensioners, trying to support one of the local Pubs. There were a number of issues and when my elderly female friend, a retired nurse, raised them with the Landlord, he loudly abused her and ended by shouting at her to “piss off”. Everyone in the building and probably outside heard his shouting and were appalled and embarrassed. The 2 female staff did their best to sort out the problems as they arose, they were polite, apologetic and helpful, but his manner was a disgrace. The issues included: no toilet paper in the Ladies toilets, the staff were not aware if the steak we ordered was available, we were advised the Manager prefers customers to drink bottled water, the till was not working properly, our order was mixed up with someone else’s, the homemade cheesecake I ordered was not available, the food arrived about 2pm (we arrived at 1pm) and as soon as it arrived the 2 dogs were round our feet wanting food, there was a hair in one of our meals, the food was too salty, the landlord was shouting at one of the staff at the bar in front of customers..... It was 3.08pm when we finally received the corrected bill. We will never go there again, under the current Management, and advise all our friends and NHS colleagues to avoid it. It was a very sad end to our 5 day reunion.

A good revamp, only stopped for a beer but the menu looked good. Shame about the dog poo in the garden though, a pug doing his business about a foot away from me. There were a couple of pugs running around freely, I love dogs but they should be on a leash with their owners or at least watched and their mess picked up immediately as this pub serves food. I may go back and try the food as they have some good veggie options. Not sure I understand the comment about not allowing children due to Covid, most pubs allow children, and this is not a government or Greene King regulation as far as I know, so would be good to understand the logic behind this.

I cant actually comment on the food. I prebooked a table for this evening solely on the fact i would be in Wallington and the pub is part of the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. I booked for 3 people via the website, I asked them to confirm they were part of the scheme, which they did. However when I arrived with my 5 year old son (at 5.30pm) I was told no children under 18. I informed the staff that I had booked a table for 3 people (there is no option for adult or child) and there was no mention of this rule on the website. All I was told is due to Covid no children are allowed. I asked why this was not on the website and as they had emailed me to confirm the booking why was it not mentioned? I was told its plastered over social media. I informed them I dont use social media, I'm one of those strange people that dont live their life on Facebook!I appreciate Covid has required some changes but these need to be communicated properly, websites should be amended and places should communicate. The photo of the booking page of the website shows they haven't bothered trying to do this at all!If I had known this in advance I would not have booked this restaurant and would have chosen another place locally that is part of the Governments scheme. I'm all for Eating Out to Help but they didn't help me out, and weren't really that bothered they had caused a major inconvenience. Needless to say this experience has put me off ever going to this pub in the future with or without my son!

First time coming into the pub today since the refurb and can I just say AMAZING! The barmaid Megan was absolutely outstanding with her customer service smile and constant flow of checks to make sure our meal and drinks were perfect and run smoothly. The garden is done beautifully! The ice cold beer and gin with plenty of ice was super refreshing! All staff amazing but hats off to Megan and the chef for the amazing roast dinner! I will be back every Sunday!

Dropped in here to watch the playoffs and have a couple of pints and some grub. Fulham didn’t disappoint (for once!) and neither did the pub! I had a feeling it was going to be a great pub when two chickens burst in the back dooralong with a couple of pugs. The lady behind the bar was very friendly, everyone in the pub was nice, and the landlord made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent - I’m a meat eater but ordered the Wynnie Woo which was excellent, and my partner ordered the chargrilled aubergine salads which was equally as delicious. The landlord also gave us a little sample of his beetroot burger and asked for some feedback on it which was a nice touch.Will definitely be back!

Never ever will I step foot in this pub ever again I’ve never in my whole life experienced anything like it completely humiliated for being honest - I wasn’t asking for a refund !!! The landlord Phil was so rude he came over to the table and asked how our food was - In which I kindly but very hesitant told him it was bland , he then told me I was talking in his words “crap “ I mean why ask if you are going to react in this way ? He then barred me and through my full glass of Prosecco on the floor and continued to abuse me I’ve never been so more embarrassed in my life. Stay away from this pub unless you are a local so it seems ! Not a nice atmosphere at all from the minute we walked in ! Very disappointing... not the type of behaviour you would expect I was asked how my food was so I was honest - seems like PHIL doesn’t like an honest customer !!! They also didn’t take any details of ours for the COVID rules ....

We attended the Rose and crown as a group of eight and were well looked after the manager is a really good bloke who made sure we had everything we needed and were satisfied with everything we had. We all had Sunday lunches of various types all of which were huge very hot well presented and very tasty for such a reasonable price.The meals were all delivered together and enjoyed by everyone.

Very Unhappy - why no kids I visited the Rose and Crown at Wallington on Sunday at 4 pm. Hoping to drink and eat with my 13yr old daughter and her uncle. The pub had a garden and served food so I knew kids would be welcome . How wrong could I be ! We arrived ... no body greeted me ... or talked about social distancing or took my details for track and trace.. .. working in the industry I know how important this is... BEWAREI tried to order a drink before finding a table and the landlord whispered to the bar man and I was promptly told .. NO KIDS ALLOWED. I was shocked and confused why a family pub didnt except my 13yr old and how this was so abruptly communicated to meWe couldn’t see any signs to say no kids .. Please be aware that this pub doesn’t encourage families any more and isn’t supporting the important covid measures We visited another Green King pub in Nottingham and they excepted kids - had social distancing- and they greeted us to make us feel welcome . ( Three ponds Nuthall) .. The rose and crown have a long way to go to be a safe and welcoming place )

Friendly place, very well kept, absolutely lovely staff, nice big garden. Hadn't been in for years, popped in a few times since refurb and pleasantly it exceeds all expectations. Looked at a few bad reviews as surprised it's got any negative feedback, unbelievable that there's any truth in any of that. Sounds like people don't react well to being told to behave themselves properly in public - perhaps not the right clientele for a decent pub?! Landlord is very pleasant and personable, gone out of his way to assist recent private booking.Dave and Lewis really good at their jobs; friendly and attentive.Shame that the awesome menagerie has gone, little zoo with rabbits, goats, chickens etc was fun.

Being local to the area, I really missed this place when it closed for a refurb. Went back to this pub, quite recently to meet friends, and all I can say, is shock horror.The refurb looks very nice, however the landlord is way over his head. I have seen him bully and manipulate his staff and argue with the locals to the area. Not a very nice place to visit, and I would swerve this place from now. Deeply gutted, and I have really been let down by the poor quality of service from the so called land lord. Totally needs to brush up on his customer service skills.

It was with sadness I read some of the other reviews. All I can say is we didn't experience any of those horrible things. We had a nice table, the staff were efficient and the food was delicious and plentiful - also cheaper than its rivals. Dogs were clean and under control. Whatever happened before, seems to have been addressed. I'll definitely be returning.

My dear Uncle had decided to book the newly refurbished Rose & Crown (Wallington) as a treat! for all of us family members. The venue had been advertised as newly refurbed establishment with an (OPEN) outdoor bar area with ample seating. Unfortunately our family/friends Christmas day went from bad to horrific from here on in.The bar was awash with dirty glasses, and my uncle/pops were having to wait long periods of time before being even acknowledged (15 mins). The staff! behind the bar (one bar person) - appeared very overworked/UNHAPPY and under extreme pressure to keep up with the customer demand; as well as just the “ONE” waitress. My uncle had requested a large table, but we were all crammed into a tight corner as all other tables had been taken, it was also very COLD within a “stressed” and very unwelcoming ambiance .There were dogs roaming freely in the “dining area” and we could already hear, the muttering of other guests at their DISGUST that dogs were being allowed to roam freely, whilst guests dined. One Dog (pug breed) proceeded to urinate/cock his leg against a table corner of the other dining guests nearby. The Christmas dinner itself was compiled of 3 straggly pieces of meat the vegetables were horrid, cold and undercooked. The plate itself compromised of mainly cold vegetables and NON existent meat. We were later informed that some guests had been told “NO Christmas Dinner” was available, this then reflected the minimalist amount of Meat of which, for a better word was over cooked/tough and tasted awful. The majority of our party refused to eat the horrendous excuse of a Christmas Dinner. It was just so “inedible”. My uncle & Pops could see how upsetting this was for our family, and it was obvious that our Christmas Day was in tatters. The Landlord finally appeared, he was intimidating towards my uncle from the start of the initial complaint/conversation. The landlord continued throughout to intimidate us ALL at our dining table which, he had decided to continue from the initial complaint my uncle had made away from us all at the bar till/service area. The landlord repeatedly leant over our table talking in “raised tones” in a very rude/unwelcoming fashion. The Landlord clearly has NO customer Care skills, and simply would NOT listen to any of us as a paying customer. NO apology was extended on his behalf, alongside not even a complimentary beverage or apology for such an underrated Christmas Day meal. He continued to lean over at my uncle and respond to him in a stressed and derogatory manner using unsavoury dialogue (SWEARING) whilst, also sweating profusely and swearing at my uncle by the end of his complaint. This establishment had NO outdoor bar in operation (NOT MANNED) as advertised. There was Dog sick by the Men’s/Ladies Lavatories on departure and an ambiance that could only be described as HOSTILE/Unwelcoming/Intimidating and foul mouthed. The landlord must attend a mandatory/accredited “Customer Care skills” Hospitality Course followed very closely with an “ANGER” management Course. ***Greene King*** TAKE NOTE at Recent TA Reviews - or the “For Sale” sign will appear, sooner than expected at the hands of this incompetent Landlord.

On our arrival the area we had pre booked was already being used by another group, waitress admitted it was an error on her behalf and was very apologetic, she then set up another area for us and compensated the person who booked it with a complimentary drink, so far all good, There were 10 of us 5 had paid a £10 deposit beforehand as wanted the Xmas menu, the others were ordering from the regular menu which staff were made aware on booking. The reg menu people ordered their food then the 5 of us went up to the bar to give our xmas menu selections to be told that the xmas dinner was not available on further discussion we were told we should have pre informed them what choices we had made. At no point on the two prior visits to ask availability and pay deposit for the meals was the organiser told this. The waitress again apologised and said most of the menu could probably be available but not the xmas dinner (what we had come for ) We asked to speak to the manager who came out and leaned over towards us in an intimidating manner all of which of us were female standing at the bar in a relaxed manner, to which he then pointed to my friend at the back who is of slight build and height who had her arms folded (because she was cold) to which he said "and you can unfold your arms that's threatening" she hadn't even spoke, I replied how dare you talk like that to her, who do you think you are, its you who is intimidating you don't scare me. The rest of the group were shocked at his outburst and he was unhelpful in solving the issue. At this point I had decided I wouldn't eat there as did 2 of my friends and we requested a refund on our deposit. He walked off. My friends then went on to order their food in the meantime the others had been served theirs after a long wait their hot food came out at least 10 min before the cold orders! Then another 40 min went before the 2 having the xmas selections finally came out. I must admit the presentation looked lovely and I was informed it tasted nice too. Then when bringing out their mains one arrived followed by a loud crashing sound of what we believe to be a plate dropping. There was a further delay of over 30 minutes without any explanation/ apology for the 2nd persons meal to arrive, so she ended up eating alone after all had finished.To sum it up:- would I go there again NO not with that manager's behaviour & attitude & poor service & communication.Shame because the food could well be very good and the other staff were very polite & helpful and apologetic.

4 of us went to Rose & crown last night, wasn’t sure what to expect.. but it exceeded our expectations. A brilliant refurb and love that they kept the separate areas, super friendly lovely staff and huge tasty food, which was freshly cooked and piping hot! We will definitely return, thanks for a brill night and for even checking we were ok when stood outside waiting for a cab for ages! Top marks!

Came here for lunch for the husbands birthday and although we were initially disappointed that they only serve a roast on a Sunday the service, friendliness and overall quality of the now revamped rose and crown soon had us staying and ordering a roast anyway. The lamb shank was superb, generous portions and perfectly cooked veg

We tried the newly refurbished pub yesterday. After drinking in this pub on and off for the last 20 years, it was a lovely surprise to see that it had been modernly updated and bright and airy. As my husband is gluten free so we asked about the GF food options. There were 2 options available which we thought was good. However when my husband's dinner arrived it had stuffing and a yorkshire pudding on the plate aswell Which are not GF. After mentioning it they removed the plate and bought another dinner out. My husband said the meal was nice, and it looked better than our roast dinners. However about 10pm he started being sick and is having an awful night with stomach pains. The food there is not fully GF or the food gets cross contaminated. Please don't take the chance of going there if you have food allergies.

We’ve made a few more visits since my last review. We agree the live music way too loud. Not sure why they think it’s necessary to have the volume sooo loud as spoils a good evening. Because of this we now avoid on a Saturday night. The staff are really finding their feet now. The atmosphere good as such a mixture of ages. We had the sharing platter tonight. Fantastic value for the portion size and variety. We are really beginning to like this place, it’s our closest pub and is reasonably priced but is a really pleasant place to spend an evening. Pity it’s taken over 20 years for a pub that is easy walking distance from our home to be a place we actually want to go to!

Since the pub has been refurbished we have visited it quite a few times. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and welcoming the only negative thing for me to comment on is ( and a few people have mentioned this) is the music is too loud. Background music is fine, but the other evening my friends and I had to shout to be heard above it. Consequently we had to leave early and go to another pub where we could converse without shouting. It is a lovely place but I’m afraid we won’t be going there as often as we would like if the music stays at the same level.

The pub has just been taken over by new owners. It's now serves huge portions of beautifully cooked and prepared roast dinners with all the trimmings. The quality of the meat is good and the portions are good . Also the deserts are beautifully prepared. Our group of 19, were given a huge dish of extra cauliflower cheese, which was delicious.

Wanted to try out the newly refurbished pub as we are from the area & wanted to try it before we booked for Christmas Day! we had a roast dinner and I can honestly say it was the worst thing we have ever eaten, we found plastic in our roast beef and you needed a chainsaw to eat the roasties and veg! speaking with the owner, he didn’t seem fussed or apologetic in anyway. Paid £26 for two awful dinners. We will never go back in to this pub again.

Popped into the newly refurbished Rose and Crown just to see how it was doing after the refurbishment. As my husband and I entered the pub, the Landlord looked up at us and gave us a lovely welcome smile. We didn't know he was the Landlord at the time but thought that was a lovely welcome. We had a roast. It was delicious and plenty of it. This pub has been recently refurbished and it is spectactular. I loved everything about the new look. I'm not a frequent visitor to this pub and only went to see how it looked to be nosey ( honestly) So, this pub is now our go to local. Well done Rose and Crown for your friendly welcome, tastly food, low price drinks and cosy embience. We will be back!!

The Rose and Crown Wallington has recently been refurbished I popped in there today for a Sunday lunch I must say food was very very good service good and the hospitality was very good also it is a lovely place and I would highly recommend it the staff were very very friendly and I enjoyed my Sunday lunch DAVID EVANS

It’s a shame that someone has already posted such a poor review. It was the opening night and allowances could have been made. Pity that the brewery have employed such inexperienced staff for the opening who had no idea of which wines which etc. A good initial impression for locals would have been more professional. There were engineers still working on pumps behind the bar so it wasn’t clear who was serving staff and who not and felt like you were being ignored.

Stopped to check on opening times at 9.25 am on a Sunday morning - got a £100 ticket for staying 4mins - what a rip off

I got a call on my phone while I was driving and pulled into the parking lot to return the call. Then get a PCN letter in the post for parking at this pub from a parking management company. I did not even leave the car and was in there for 5 min.

Nice homely feel about the pub. Always a warm welcome from staff and regulars. Food always looks very appetizing although haven't tried it myself yet.
