The Roost on Rock Road in The Vale of Glamorgan

We booked for Sunday lunch today on arrival the atmosphere is warm and inviting made more so by the hosts Jo and Andrew and their great team You straight away notice that that everyone is made to feel welcome be you a regular or a first time visitor We ordered the Thai fish cake with sauce and beautiful crisp salad just enough to start you off . Our main course was locally sourced lamb with roast potatoes cabbage selection of vegetables perfectly cooked copious amounts of gravy a side order of cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding The lamb was I have to say for us both stunning We stared a sticky toffee pudding and ice cream which was gorgeous

Beautiful rooms decorated to a high standard. Our welcome was very warm. Food was disappointing to say the least. Lots of loud drunk people filled the bar who had foul mouths and abusive behaviour was tolerated which totally spoilt the experience for us. Will not be back unfortunately. Used to be a fantastic venue. It certainly has potential to be great again if the focus is placed back on food and rooms.

Another fabulous meal at the Roost to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary and as always it did not disappoint. The beef dinner was absolutely delicious as was the chicken dinner my husband had. Lovely place with a really friendly atmosphere. Joanne and Andrew are very welcoming and cannot do enough to help. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon.

What an Incredible afternoon we had on Mothers Day Second to none service and hosting from Jo, Andrew and team and absolutely stunning food as always . I felt thoroughly spoilt with my glass of fizz upon arrival , ate far too much as always. Thank you for the best time x.

Excellent lunch yesterday. Food and service was perfect, great value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely god back next time we are in the area.

We booked in for dinner on valentines night and had a wonderful time. We received a warm welcome as always from Jo and her staff and secured a lovely cosy couch by the fire. The dinner service was fantastic and our waitress was ever so friendly. The meal was gorgeous! We both started with Thai fish cakes and then had the sirloin steaks. Both were mouthwatering and perfectly cooked We will be returning soon and I would recommend this little gem to anyone

Loved the hospitality there, such a clean and beautiful place. The room itself was incredible. Imagine a show room, The cleaner done a grand job.(pay rise) 🤣. And the host, fantastic. Although I live fairly local, booked here for the night with my partner and booked into the restaurant. Firstly, the rooms are stunning. Well appointed, beautifully finished, luxurious, clean, peaceful and comfortable. Lovely big bath, amazing shower and underfloor heating in the bathroom! It was heaven! Joanne met us in the restaurant, what a wonderful and welcoming lady. We felt very welcomed from the start and nothing was too much trouble for Joanne or any of the team. Kudos to the chef too, the Thai fishcakes were stunning, the pork belly was gorgeous and that lamb was probably the best I’ve ever had! We didn’t have dessert because we were so full, but that dessert menu looked amazing too! Can’t wait to come back and try the Sunday menu as well! Very good value for money all round. The rugby was on this weekend and St Athan is a stones throw from Cardiff, so the room was very well priced considering and the food was worth every single penny. 100% will be staying again!

We've been to the Roost several times since it first opened. Last time though was autumn 2022 and we really enjoyed it. Food then was excellent and something a bit more special and of better quality than a lot of places in the area. Roll on to this time and the food was decidely average pub food. Would not bother with a return visit. Nothing stood out, parts of meal over cooked to beyond recognition like dauphinoise potatoes, other bits under like unrendered pork fat on the pork belly. It feels like whereas before the focus was the restaurant and food, now it's become a mish mash of drinking pub with meals an after thought.

A little gem of a place that left a big impact! I stayed here with friends to celebrate my 50th birthday, our room was adorable! Very spaceous and comfortable. The decor is very relaxing and homely. It was lovely to wake up to the birds singing. The food, WOW! It was fantastically presented, it tasted wonderful. The white chocolate cheesecake, left me speechless! I would highly recommend the food here….you must go! Jo & Andrew could not do enough to ensure we felt welcome. The chef, Jordan is one of a kind! An absolute pleasure to meet you! We will definitely come back, in fact I can’t wait to book a table for Sunday lunch! Thank you to Jo, Andrew and the team.
