For some reason we had not been here for some time and walking through the doors on a dark and windy Halloween evening immediately wondered why not? The food choice and quality is top class. As are the friendly and very efficient staff - both in the restaurant and at the bar. While the decor and ambience is everything you could hope for in a lovely country pub, restaurant and hotel. Excellent value too. We felt welcomed and treated in a special place where the staff - front of house and kitchen - made that extra effort to ensure everyone went home with a smile on their face. Well done to all involved.

If you are heading to the Robin Hood Inn for Dinner, a few drinks or Breakfast. Rest assued I am confident you will have a great time. Evening Meal, Ale and breakfast I received were excellent. Service was great and cost were fair for the quality and location. However, if you are staying in the lodges and weather is not perfect, I would suggest reconsidering. It was raining on my visit, not that exceptional for the area. I was shown the accommodation which looked fine. Twin Beds, small but functioning shower / WC room. A bit chilly, but the heating was then switched on and radiators started to warm up. Shame this was not done a short while before we arrived, but costs and emissions do need to be considered. I pointed out the leaking roof that had water dripping onto the carpet. This was "explained" by the fact that it had been raining!! No thought of an apology if no alternative room was possible due to other bookings. The host left the lodge. Having kiked from Newcastle my choices were limited. So I opted to place the bin under the leak to minimise the damp in the room and used the tray for the coffee and tea satchets to catch water from the second leak. At the very good evening meal, I found that our recently met Amercian fellow hikers also had a leaking lodge and had a simialr customer service experience. At breakfast the following morning - thankfully the rain stopped in the night, I was asked how my stay was going, I extolled the food and drink and at least this member of the staff was genuinely shocked to hear about the leaks.... shame they were not working the Monday night! Great place to eat and drink, only stay in lodges during warm summer months unless you have your own bucket.

My wife and I stayed here for a night while walking The Hadrian’s Wall Path, the pub being ideally located on the route. We stayed in one of their log cabins behind the pub which was clean and very comfortable with full central heating and everything you would expect in a good hotel room. The restaurant was good with excellent food and friendly, welcoming staff. (The popularity of the restaurant was clearly demonstrated by how full it was considering the pub is in the middle of nowhere!). Breakfast was superb. Recommended.

The staff are really nice and friendly The place probably needs a refurb, even if it is a country pub. The Sunday dinners look pretty good but for 18 quid the beef really should be a little pink.. otherwise what are you paying 18 quid for. The belly of pork .... Just take it off the menu, the joy of the dish is some crispy fat that is edible. Unfortunately it looked like it had been cooked on the radiator and the fat was just rubber, for 18 quid that isn't good enough by any stretch. The choc fudge cake is half the size I have ever had in any other restaurant, come on, its shop bought, for 7-8 quid it's criminal.

Warm welcome from the bar staff on entering. There is a good feel to the bar area and it was busy even on a Monday lunchtime. The lady (licencee/owner?) was also pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The halloumi and red pepper sandwich is recommended and the sweets looked excellent. The establishment is very much out on its own and would be good for a quiet night away, as they do have rooms.

Visited here for lunch today when walking the Hadrian’s Wall path- it’s located on the section from Chollerford to Heddon on the Wall. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. We both ordered a sandwich from their lunch menu and both were really delicious. My partner and I rang up at around 3pm on a Friday to see if Robin Hood Inn had any available tables for that evening. Thankfully there was! Even though we live quite near to this lovely pub, we've never been - and what a lovely surprise! The staff were very friendly, accommodating & helpful (when trying to decide between all the many appetising choices on the menu!) The service was very quick considering how busy it was, and the food was the best food we've had in a long time! Super tasty and full of flavour. My partner had the 'Drunken beef brisket chilli' which was scrumptious, and I had the buttermilk chicken burger which again, was really really tasty! The tables were spread out so we felt very safe (Covid-19 related) and the place was very clean. My partner & I will return eagerly very soon!

We have just been for a meal today at Robin Hood Inn. They have everything in place for COVID-19. We scanned the barcode as we entered the pub and then straight to a sanatising station. We wore our masks until we were seated. Louise took our drink order and gave us time to look at the menu.We ordered potato bravas starter and vegetable spring roll. They all arrived piping hot and very tasty. Our mains followed shortly after with a top up of drinks. There was plenty of choice on the pudding menu only the Irish cream cheesecake...... my choice had just sold out but the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake was a good second choice. We will definitely return to this establishment.

We had the light bite menu as we did not know how long we had but both our sandwhich's were very filling and the side order of chips was excellent. Unfortunatley I could not sample any of the real ales but there looked a good selection from the local brewery.

We called into our favourite pub today and were met with the same warm welcome as usual, yes times have changed but the RHI has done a fantastic job following the Corvid 19 guide lines. Sanitation station when you enter though the front door, a one way system is in place around the pub, table orders taken but no standing at the bar one way into the toilet and another way back, the two metre rule applies as everywhere. The food and beer are as good if not better than before and the welcoming faces of the owners and staff put a smile on my face. After much consultation with my Head Taster (My Grandson) we decided the time had come for one of our weekly food nights to make a return to the Robin Hood.Everything was the same as the last time we visited, Warmly atmosphere, Well welcomed by the friendly staff, We had the same waitress as last time, excellent & nothing had changed much except this time it was freezing outside but cosy & warm inside along with the same expensive Beer Prices.Joking apart this time we decided to try the Beef & Chicken Share Platter. A great choice with more than enough for the two of us. Nicely cooked tender Beef. Nicely Flavoured Chicken Wings & this time although I only reluctantly order Chips but these ones here were really nicely cooked. Crispy outside & lovely & soft in.We ended up with the New York Cheese Cake with Cream. It was nice but still rate the cheese cakes of local chef Peter Douglas as being the Cheese cake which I set my comparison Bench Mark to be. Compared to Peter's 7 / 10. Still not a bad mark.It was a very enjoyable night had by all.Would I go back: Definitely in fact my Grandson went back the next night for the Steak Night.Would I recommend: Without a Doubt. Good Food, Good Quality Food.

I have eaten here several times in the past but the menu appears to have changed recently with far more pickles and Kimchi appearing on several dishes. I had the gin and tonic salmon starter which has lemon and tonic jelly, pickled potatoes. I have to say that it was quite acetic, I am not sure if there was a dressing on the leaves which was largely vinegar but I was glad that there were new potatoes to balance the taste of the vinegar. The potatoes did not appear to be pickled and the lemon and tonic jelly was more of a smear, however, having said all of that the salmon was lovely and the dish overall was quite nice. I then had the chicken burger which was a chicken fillet with monterrey jack cheese, salad, kimchi, pickles, siracha mayonnaise. Again the taste of the burger was unusual but not unpleasant. I did get the feeling that the chef was maybe trying a bit too hard to be different but not quite hitting the mark. My husband had gammon and he thoroughly enjoyed that. Sometimes simple is best.Although I have rated this as very good I think it leans more towards good but better than average.

Stopped here one evening as part of our Hadrian's Wall Path walk. Staff welcoming and helpful. Food, however indifferent. The menu was a very odd mix of grill type fare (gammon, steak, burgers etc) and aspiring posh dishes that didn't quite mix. Not much there for vegetarians (one choice). Soup was tasty but came with a tiny portion of 'artisan' bread which tasted of nothing. (It needed a chunk of crusty something!) The tart was equally minuscule- think jam tart and you get the size. OH had gammon which was ok but chips skinny and greasy. All in all disappointing for the money. We didn't return even though we had the chance the following day.

The first thing to emphasise is that the quality of my room far exceeded my expectations of an isolated rural pub. Even though it was hidden up the back stairs next - one would assume - to the owners' accommodation, it was of 4* hotel quality: a huge, comfortable bed, luxurious bathroom, large TV and plenty of space to spread out. Having walked 20 miles of Hadrian's Wall I was especially grateful for this luxury. Evening meal was also impressive. The pork and stilton pie could have done with more stilton, but was nevertheless enjoyable. And the pulled-beef chilli was similarly tasty, hugely filling and very good value. Service was friendly and attentive which continued the next morning at breakfast. Sadly my sleep was interrupted in the small hours by some dubious merriment. The room overlooks a busy B-road so some traffic noise is inevitable, and on the evening I stayed (the day before the UK's hottest ever day!) opening the window was a no-brainer. However around 3am I was awoken by some nocturnal activity involving men and at least one female in cars. I cannot say for certain that 'dogging' was going on, but the coming and going (stop sniggering at the back!) over the course of 15 minutes was a nuisance and I struggled in the humidity to get back to sleep. The Robin Hood Inn is an impressive pub / hotel; the merry men who frequented its car park in the small hours I could do without.

Myself and my daughter stayed over here midway through our Hadrian’s Wall walk. It’s directly on the route so no need to get taxis or lifts to and from the official path. We were very tired and hungry after it was nearly dark when we arrived and, although they had no record of our reservation through booking.com (which they later found), they couldn’t have been more helpful, clearly used to dealing with tired and hungry walkers! The food was hearty and delicious and was just what the doctor ordered! Next to our room upstairs, there was a small self-serving kitchen and, although we didn’t because we were too tired, the facilities are there to wash and/or dry muddy clothes and boots. Breakfast in the morning was served at our same table in the bar. An Inn recommended for tired and hungry walkers!

I was lucky enough to go back to the Robin Hood with my husband for lunch on Mother's Day as a special treat from my son and daughter in law. Once again, I was not disappointed : the meal was really delicious and well presented. In spite of how busy the restaurant was, the staff were unfailingly cheerful and welcoming. Lots of families here for today obviously but no long wait for our meal. A really good experience!

Been here a few times now and it’s consistently good. The food is quick, plentiful and obviously homemade, and the atmosphere is that of a cosy traditional English pub. The staff are always pleasant - can’t go wrong! Will definitely be back :)

On recommendation, we called in, on the off chance we could get a table. We were greeted by a lovely gentlemen who offered a bay window table straight away. It had literally just become available and wiped down. We sat down and got table service within minutes. Ordered 2 roast dinners, pork and lamb. They arrived shortly after our drinks order. I think we were in and out within half an hour.

Went as a group of 7 for a Birthday meal, requested a quiet corner as one of our party has a hearing loss, we were sat in a private dining room which was idea as it did not have piped music and ensured we could all be heard.

Not been here before, but pass the place regularly and always wanted to visit. Had the chance this past week, so popped in. There are a few craft ales plus regular generic beers. Lots of tables for diners, open fires, bit dark inside, but welcoming. Lunch time menu, reasonable selection, went for the pie of the day, which comes with chips and mushy peas, plus small fish and chips. Only waited about 10 mins before food arrived, when it did it was piping hot. However the pie was small, about the size of a scotch pie if you know what they are, or if not a pie about less than 3 inches round about inch and half deep, peas were in a small pot on the side. I’ve no idea why restaurants do this apart from portion control, but again not a lot and what there where, where on the dry side. Chips were home made but nothing special, fish (ordered small portion which is good to see on a menu) was pretty tasteless. Drives me crackers the way we can’t do decent fish living so close to the North Sea. Pie casing was hard (cracked when trying to press fork in) possibly due to be being over cooked when warming up? Thankfully there was a small jug of gravy which was ok. Contents of the pie (steak and ale) was again ok, but a bit dry, and not tasting much of ale, probably about a large tablespoon of filling. The biggest problem I had with the meal (apart from the not so great quality) was the cost, £13 for a small pie, small portion peas and chips. If the food had been high quality then I could understand the price, but it wasn’t. Big disappointment, it’s not difficult to do a good moist pie, crisp chips, meaty gravy and a dollop of peas.

We have a pub meal every Friday evening and as we were in the area, thought we’d try the Robin Hood. The dining area is nicely laid out, as is the bar, and there’s a very good selection of beers. However the food was not at all special and disappointing for the price. Compared with equivalent quality elsewhere I think the main courses are probably at least £3 more than they should be. One other comment...the gents toilet next to the bar is particularly poor and unhygienic

We decided to go a bit further afield today & ended up at the Robin Hood Inn. There was a very warm welcome. We chose the Sunday lunch menu, in the bar area. Food was first class & served promptly. Huge platefuls, (next time we will ask for the smaller plate). Everything perfectly cooked. The only “drawback” was that there was a couple with a dog at the next table. The dog was well behaved, but I had to keep well away, due to an allergy. I could have asked them to sit elsewhere, but felt that wasn’t very nice. A super place and a nice drive now we are looking forward to Spring

Only my second time visiting, it certainly won’t be the last. Walked into a very welcoming pub, both the atmosphere and staff. There were three of us, we all had burgers and they were all delicious.

The biggest asset here are the staff closely followed by the excellent food. We love coming here, always a great welcome and Sunday lunch is superb, very fresh and quality meats. Very good range of ales and a keg craft pale ale too, top marks Robin Hood.

Those of us staying over the night before the Wedding at Matfen Hall decided to eat at the Robin Hood, we rang in advance to arrange our booking as there was 20 of us, always advisable if there’s a large number in your party.

As part of our organized UK coach trip, our first stop along Hadrian's Wall was the Robin Hood Inn. Given there were forty of us and it was a cold and rainy day, the staff performed admirably! The vegetable soup was some of the best I've ever had and the cheese sandwich was very tasty and fresh. I also tasted my first scone there. If we would have had more time, I can assure you that there would be more. The atmosphere is what you might expect in a northern pub and inn, including a full complement of beers. Complete with the locals and their sleepy dogs, the ambiance was very authentic and real. This is a fun place that should not be missed if traveling north.

An absolute gem on the Holy Island! We stopped here to grab a sandwich, some cake, and a drink to take with us as we explored the island. The customer service was excellent, the owner was an absolute delight and super helpful. The food is delicious, and a really good selection too! And on top of all that they sell maps and books of the island as well, it really is a must visit and a one stop shop for everything you need on your island adventures!

Stopped in for breakfast on the way to do a walk at Kielder. Loved the place. Fantastic , well cooked , quality breakfast. Decent size and good value at £10.50 including toast and a brew. Couldn’t fault the food. One of the best breakfasts we’ve had. Ticked all the boxes for us. Dog friendly. Liked Falstone so much did a walk from there instead of Kielder and came back to the Old School for dessert. Bread and Butter pudding with cream or custard ! Although I was tempted by the Old School sponge. Thank you for a lovely experience
