Pre match breakfast spot on. Magic seat overlooking the river and the ground. Prompt service, perfectly cooked and friendly.

Appalling. Customer service non-existent. Food terrible - salade Nicoise with no tuna, egg, beans or anchovies - 90% potato. Not cheap and definitely not worth it.

Away fan visiting Hillsborough for match on Sat 26th Feb 2022. Found this place by accident. Clean, staff very friendly and efficient despite being very busy. Had the home made pie of the day (meat and potato) with homemade chips, peas, and gravy - absolutely excellent and great value. Nice friendly atmosphere and enjoyed a chat with some home fans. Service excellent at such a busy time just over 1hour before kickoff. Will definitely visit again.

The Riverside cafe. 17.08.21 Where - Hillsborough next to park and football ground and opposite a school. When - 1pm 17.08.21 Who - Isaac and Tom What - Chicken Caesar salad and fresh orange juice with beetroot and coleslaw £8.70 Staff gave a warm welcome and were very friendly and helpful Service was quick, large portions. Great environment to eat in - radio was playing ( B52's loveshack) good music. Terrace/ Decking out the back over looking the river and football stadium. Great accessible toilets with enough room to turn my chair around inside.

Ok so I go a week later for the beautiful vegetarian breakfast that I had, today was a match day so granted it was busy, I was prepared to wait, I asked for no tomato to be added to my breakfast the lady behind the counter said no !! So I mentioned I’m not asking for anything different I just don’t want something adding, she explained No So I asked again, she was then abruptly said Chef says no I simply took my business elsewhere Very rude

Lovely upstairs bar area to hold a party.Helpful bar staff and good buffet.Unfortunately we were over charged,we mentioned this at the end of the evening when it came to paying but the lady I paid wasn`t the person who took the booking.I phoned the gentleman I booked with and left a message explaining I had been overcharged but that`s a month ago and I have`nt heard anything back?

Came here with friends as we’ve just moved to the area. Sat outside which is a nice area, inside was just constant shouting of meals and numbers. We ordered which took forever as they make drinks at the same time. A young blonde girl was doing her best and seemed very polite and then assuming the owner? Lady with brown hair came over to ‘assist’ who seemed very blunt and rude to staff and uninterested to customers. This ruined the experience for us and we felt very unwelcome. The coffee was overpriced for a warm cappuccino. The food arrived and was okay, nothing special and no better than a whetherspoons breakfast. Toast was smothered in butter- a bit much for me. Our friend had a tea cake who said it had so much butter that it was soggy. I would like to support local places but I don’t think I would bother returning here and sadly due mostly to the staff and atmosphere caused.

Their sign says ‘We don’t do fast food. We do good food as fast as we can.’ In reality, they do very average food very slowly. Very stingy with the sausages in my bap. And what kind of a cafe doesn’t have mustard!?

I've been to the cafe a couple of times before with it being so close to home. The first visit wasn't great, the second (hungover) visit was great (excellent sausage sandwich). However, I felt compelled to write a review after today's visit. We went in and ordered Eggs Florentine for myself, and jacket with cheese for my partner, with two cans of pop. We were given two glasses. We went to sit outside (which is a lovely seating area by the way, despite over-looking Hillsborough stadium). We then noticed that the glasses were no only dirty, but had some kind of scum all up the inside of both glasses. The waiter (who I think cooked the food) then brought out both meals and asked who had ordered the eggs florentine. When I said myself, he said 'here you go... bit a girly meal isn't it?'. I gave a polite laugh but couldn't quite register what he'd said! Very odd. The toast with my meal was warm bread, and the jacket potato wasn't fully cooked. Not a great experience and probably not somewhere we're going to go again.

We really liked the food at this place- I thought the brioche for my eggs benedict was an unusual touch, but worth trying. Price was very fair for the quality. The thing that let it down is that one of the staff members looked absolutely miserable. Maybe she was unwell (if she was, hope she's OK!) or didn't want to be there that day- she wasn't actively rude, just looked incredibly disinterested. A lovely place like this needs a welcoming atmosphere- we hope we'll find it if we return.

Called in for a beer pre and post match recently. Nice terrace bar with views of the River Don and the stadium in the distance. Good range of local beers and nice punters. The Leppings Lane Super Tram stop is 2 minutes away so great place to let the traffic get away post match.

Lovely surroundings....not cramped as per previous review... Reasonably priced, good coffee, gorgeous breakfast and proper doorstep toast and butter. 8 of us turned up and every breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend.

In trying to maximise its revenue, the place comes across as very cramped, with tables virtually touching each other, no room to move, no space to get out when finished. Staff come across as indifferent.

Visiting from Australia we always have at least one breakfast at the Riverside. Full English like nowhere else with tea & toast sets you up for whatever the British weather can throw at you.

Si estás buscando un lugar tranquilo para comer con excelente servicio (tanto amable e informativo) con excelente comida inglesa de calidad, este es el lugar para probar. El menú es pequeño pero que es de su crédito, ya que la calidad se exceda sus expectativas. Fuimos a la ribera del río por primera vez la noche del viernes pasado para el 50 cumpleaños de mi madre, fue la elección perfecta ya que queríamos una noche relajada, con una comida que puede satisfacer todos los gustos. El pub contemporáneo decoración sin pretensiones en combinación con un alto nivel de servicio al cliente y la hermosa comida hecha para una noche perfecta! La presentación y el equilibrio de sabores y texturas de cada plato era divino ... si lo que buscas es buena comida simples, con atento personal sin la formalidad y costo de un restaurante fino, entonces este es el lugar para ir sin duda! No podemos esperar a volver de nuevo!

Had a meal there last night with friends.The food is excellent and cooked to perfection.Reasonably priced,you don't get a lot but it enables you to have three courses which is far nicer than just having a main meal and feeling stuffed.The restaurant is nicely decorated with a good atmosphere and in summer opens out onto the river but with no seating area and downstairs in the cafe area it also opens out onto a decking area with seating area overlooking the river.Nice music was played while we were there,not in your face,there's also a log burner in the bar area which is very cosy.This is the the third time I have been and can't wait to go again.!

They have a brilliant menu and I've found this a great place to meet up with family. The food is fab & the outdoor terrace is really nice. My only complaint is that they don't offer maple syrup when you order french toast and bacon.

La comida que tuvimos fue excepcional, tuve una terrina de corva de jamón para empezar mientras mi mujer tenía la calabaza, ambos deliciosos, para platos principales tenía una mano planteadas carne y hongos pastel y mi esposa tenía pechuga de pato. Todo el resto del grupo tenía los aperitivos y platos principales diferentes, todos estaban diciendo lo bien la comida había sido preparado. Aunque toda la comida que tuvimos fue deliciosa lo mejor está por venir. Un postre sencillo de pudding de pan con mantequilla divina uno de los mejores que he probado. Todos nos fuimos con el mismo pensó que era 'volveremos"

i was on early tour with 20 chinese deligates traveling from manchester to sheffield stoped here for breakfast at 08.10...no booking we just turned up .cant say bad thing ten mins 20 coffies 15mins 20 full breakfast.staff fab. toilets clean.even the mums takeing children to school acrose road where nice to my delegets..food was presented well and hot...certinly will use again....well done to all staff...goood job all round

We visited as previously knowing the Riverside as a daytime cafe/bar upstairs and decided to visit for an evening meal with family who were staying with us.The food was of excellent quality and tasted great. The presentation of the food was also brilliant. We enjoyed free canapes as we'd booked a table which were tasty and a nice touch. We then moved onto starters and I had olives/bread to share (fresh bread which was just right). Others had some of the starters from the specials board which they loved. The mains/puddings were also very high quality.Service was prompt, friendly but not rushed. Real ales were on draft and were greatly appreciated.This is a little gem of a place and you'd struggle to find a similiar offering in Sheffield without going to somewhere like Silversmiths/Milestone in the city center, and definitely not anywhere else in Hillsborough.Will be visiting again with my partner.

Been a few times since the restaurant opened a few months ago food is always excellent, keep going and you will become a gem in the sheffield food scene highly recommend and can't wait to return. Ps partridge was outanding!!

We had a table for 4 at what you would think would be a busy time 8.00 pm Friday evening, strangely there were only 2 other people eating which after finishing the meal we found a bit odd. The menu is good with plenty of variety we all chose from the specials board all though the standard pub classic menu offered what you would expect. We tried 4 different starters all of which were excellent with the mackrell being the star, on to mains seasonal partridge was cooked to perfection and the cod loin very good. I went for the belly pork with mash and although very tasty it wasn't a large portion. The home made deserts were as good as we have had very refined. It is not a cheap meal but it's not pub grub. Well worth a visit if you want something special, just a shame the place was not busier.

Athough a little quiet on my visit , I can honestly say I have not eaten finer food in Sheffield , the starter of ham terrine was lovely , a perfect start , my main was partridge breast stuffed with mushroom and wrapped in pancetta , the potato and veg were beautiful a very lovely tasty dish ten out of ten

Having been a 'regular' bar fly whilst the riverside didn't do evening meals it was nice to go here on reviews that something magical has happened. Knowing the pedigree of the current chef, he's worked with a friend of ours at a top end sheffield restaurant, we were therefore keen to try.£22 for a fillet steak will put some people off, but when served with the right stuff like good wild mushrooms, béarnaise sauce and some classy spuds it all makes sense. Too often you can have a lesser priced steak dished up to you in disappointment, it's worth paying the premium. I could have guzzled 3 of the starters that night, settling for the parfait, but could have demolished the scallops or the chorizo risotto, or all three for that matter.Wine list is limited but found something to glug on. It's going to be our place to grab a bit of luxury tea whilst we have an hour away from the little one and just enjoy the juxtaposition of top notch food served in Hillsborough. Ha! I love it, can wait to pop in again and see what's on the specials board!For those that want less in the way of 'posh nosh' the pub classics menu looks to die for and I have it on good authority the burger is one of the best in town. Other classics include pie, fish and chips etc.

Always been quite regular at The Riverside but after a series of bad experiences we've decided not to go back. Every time we go in something is wrong - Soft drinks that aren't refrigerated in summer and then no ice - in a bar?? Never horseradish for beef on a Sunday, every week asking for condiments that turn up after you've finished eating, items missing or not as menu describes (they don't tell you this until the dish arrives and you point it out) The prawn cocktail on a Sunday is beyond poor- hastily defrosted watery prawns with hoar freeze - served with white bread (should always be brown!). The whole place is just disorganised chaos - and the staff seem so apathetic - you point out something one week then the same thing happens the next Sad though as if run properly with attentive staff it could be a great place to eat

Visited in June and sat outside where you can see the river. The scenery was amazing and I'm surprised it was not busier being so pretty and all. Staff are really friendly. Food is delicious and very affordable. Very pleased.

We went there on a Saturday night and enjoyed excellent food at a reasonable price. All our dishes were beautifully presented with just the right amount on the plate. Thoroughly recommended and will definitely be going back for more

Been to the upstairs bar a few times and since they started food have been tempted by the gorgeous smells and finally decided to try it out tonight. The food was very tasty and good quality, a great bonus for Middlewood, have already suggested going for a meal there with friends!

Had breakfast in the cafe several times and always impressed with food and service. Had a drink in the bar before and loved the relaxed atmosphere. Tried the bistros food for the first time tonight with a party of 11 including 3 kids. Best quality food at really competitive prices. No rush to leave. Really friendly. Will certainly visit again

We picked our grandaughter up from her new school and after taking her to the park decided to have something to eat and the Riverside Cafe/bar terrace was the nearest. We got there at 4.00 but was about to close the cafe and didn't open the upstairs restaurant until 5.30, but after explaining our situation to the ladies they served us, as we hadn't been there before. There were no sandwiches left, but we had some jam and cream scones, which were absolutely delicious and a gorgeous strawberry tart and several coffees and a coke for our grandaughter. We sat on the terrace overlooking the river and it was a lovely setting, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we will definitely go again for a meal in the restaurant as we looked on the evening menu and meals sounded delicious. Well worth a visit for anyone and the surprise is the lovely river setting, which you can't see from the front.

Wow, it's what hillsborough's been crying out for, what a fantastic little place wonderful meal, beautifully presented and with great service couldn't ask for more can't wait for our next visit highly recommend.

Great food, squid, fish and chips and muscles, shortbread and strawberries, all lovely. This bar/café are really trying and I hope they succeed. Nice staff and great food. Decent bear and wine. We will return.

We ate upstairs in the restaurant which hosts a great atmosphere which is helped by the friendly and welcoming staff. The menus were clear and not over confusing. Offering comfort food at its best. What was most pleasing was the quality of the food. The food was well presented and of very high standard. The breads were served without plates at first but as soon as we asked for them the staff were on hand to accommodate us. We were able to meet the chef which was a really nice personal touch and he took on our feedback well. I would defiantly recommend a visit.

Recently opened a bar upstairs, small choice of beers and none of your usual big names. Bar food is reasonable but slightly over priced. Service can be a bit slow especially on match days.
