We ate here in conjunction with an overnight stay at the Hotel. The menu didn't really impress and although the restaurant was quiet service wasn't great and the food below par/average for such an establishment. The hotel is under major refurbishment which may account so hopefully things will improve. Overall I wasn't impressed which was sad!

See also main review for hotel. The standard of food and service at the River Room Restaurant is not consistent with the standards elsewhere within the hotel. We experienced very poor service, limited menu options and missing orders. Breakfast was somewhat disorganised and not up to the standard one expects at a 4* hotel.

Had some average meals here and some bad ones over the years but my recent visit was the best yet. Varied menu and food hot and of good quality. Keep that current chef! Breakfast always on a par with any Hilton, which is the best yardstick. Sort out the coffee though eh?

If you want a dried up burger, pies with very little meat, dried fish and pea risotto with no peas - this is the place for you. Add to this insolent ignorant staff and you've got yourself a night to remember. In fairness most of the staff here are ok but our very young waiter was rather lacking in the manners department.

We have had meals in here for many years and mostly found them to be excellent for food and value. Always have our breakfast in this room when we stay at Chesford Grange Hotel. Ideal spot for trips to surrounding areas, like Birmingham NEC, Warwick Castle, Stratford upon Avon, Leamington Spa and Coventry. Hotels amazing with a Spa etc. I cant rate this place highly enough.

We were staying at the hotel and had our meal on our first night as part of the rate we paid. We booked a time when we checked in although it wasn't necessary as it was quite empty. We had to wait for the 2 waiting staff to finish a conversation before turning to us to take us to a table and didn't really understand what they were saying as their English wasn't great. We were allowed to have £28 of food before we had to pay extra so at least the evening meal package does give you access to the full menu. There is a reasonable breadth in the menu - we decided to have a main and dessert with some bread as a starter. Our mains were OK - nothing special - I had the lamb shank which was nicely cooked and my wife the spatchcock- which wasn't a spatchcock but half a chicken - no sauce at all on it so dry to eat - they provided some gravy when we mentioned the dryness. Desserts were poor - we had apple crumble which were small and had a dense topping rather than crumble. The service felt a little clunky - I think all of the waiting staff served us at some point so felt quite uncoordinated. Had breakfast in the same location the following morning and was fine - a good selection of continental style and cooked options.

A wonderful range of breakfast choices and all assisted by very attentive staff. Good views over the grounds and the seating is roomy and uncluttered

Food was often overcooked or burned and was not worth nearly what it cost. I was there for a convention so I expected it to be a bit lower quality than usual but this was exceptionally bad.

We were staying in the Chesford Grange hotel as a result of a TripAdvisor package. As part of this deal, we were allowed a meal in the River Room Restaurant. The food was good and the staff courteous and helpful. The only minor problem was with the Rosé wine, which was at room temperature when delivered to our table. The Waiter tried his best, filling an ice bucket, but it took a long time to be cool enough to be at it's best. Otherwise everything was fine.

We visited on a Sunday evening which is cleary one of the quieter nights of the week. That said very helpful staff in bar and restaurant and we enjoyed a tasty burger albeit on the pricey side.

Food was good, waitress was awful and she knew she was so she gave us 20% off. Need to train staff on hospitality. Bar staff are friendly and have great customer service.

6 of us just back from the worst Christmas ever, spent at the above. Food at Xmas Dinner dreadful, sparse and inedible, service terrible, no atmosphere very few trimmings, the music for Xmas lunch, "Blowing in the Wind" by Bob Dylan! how very apt. Only one glass of mulled wine each offered all over the festive period, very young, untrained and miserable staff in attendance some unable to communicate in English, over 2hrs to serve every meal over 3hrs on xmas day it was like feeding the 5 thousand in the Kenilworth Suite, packed to the rafters with 2 coach parties together with all the independant travellers present, mayhem! Complained to a very patronising Manager Mr Anjay Talwar, who couldnt comprehend why we were so upset and said that he really didnt want to speak to all 6 of us - tough - hes a Manager surely he can manage 6 people at once! Offered us a refund but doesnt compensate for our Christmas ruined keep away from this hotel at Christmas all they want is your money, not interested in customer service which is so important especially at Christmas, what a nightmare, xmas at Mcdonalds would have been a better and a tastier option and for this we paid £1,320 daylight robbery!

I will start by saying that do not normally eat in the pubs attached to premier inns, the food is nearly always dry and horrible but tonight, well, tonight, it was completely different. Firstly the staff on the floor all very pleasant and helpful , well done to you all. Secondly, to the kitchen staff. The food was perfectly cooked and presented. I can say it was the best mixed grill I have ever had In a pub attached to a hotel. Dan, Craig and Tom, really well done lads. You did the chain proud this evening. I had plans for visiting Asian restaurants this week but you will probably see me again in Thyme before Friday. Well done to all the staff. Ps, the wins were also great. Thanks for a great meal.

Quite excited to try this place. First things first, you pay up front. They tried to charge me for 4 adults; my kids are 13 and 16. Not off to a great start. The food selection here is OK if you're a meat eater but dire if you're vegetarian. A shame really when the quality was OK. In a nut shell, the service here is poor, everything seems to be an effort for the staff. Our table had remnants of a drink, the floor had bits of food, asking for water was like I'd insulted a family member. Oh well, at least we tried.

i ordered extra extra mild rogan josh and it came very spicy, daughters mild korma sauce came spicy too and there was a black hair cooked in her nan bread. i contacted them to be told as it wasnt busy, so the chef didnt read my online message with the order about me wanting it extra mild , they agreed to change it, but it still was still a little spicy and mainly all sauce with about 6 small pieces of chicken. waste of money wont be using that take out again
