Very tasty and excellent food good prices very helpful friendly staff will be back for more

Live local but first time we’ve been for a family meal. Great value for food and those that drank a pint said it was the best they’ve had in a while. Staff were friendly and all food was home cooked. Would definitely recommend visiting.

First visit since re open. Warm and cozy, very welcoming and returning for a roast tomorrow 😍

What a wonderful place to eat. Nice menu to choose from and tasted wonderful. Pleased all the table with various meals...one to definitely try out! And the bar staff were super friendly and swift!

I booked a table for myself and a couple of friends to try the festive menu. The venue appeared full apart from some reserved tables on our arrival which was nice to see. We had time to make our choices from varied menus and were served at table or could have ordered from the bar. Being given that choice was very nice. We all enjoyed our food, not much was left, they were good portion sizes and definately worth the money charged. I hate being served luke warm food so was pleased the hot food came to table HOT!. Compliments to the chef. People around us were enjoying their meals and chatter but the atmosphere was slightly lacking and it would be my only criticism as the staff were friendly and attentive.There were some Christmas decorations but were sparce and the walls were bare, the fire was not lit, so the cosy country pub feel I felt was lacking. I think we all felt that. We also had the table near the door to the toilets which are off a cold corridor to the garden so it became quite cold with the constant drafts as people went back and forth. There possibly needs to be some kind of screen or the high backed pew type seat turned sideways to shelter diners maybe. Although it maybe too big. But on the whole our evening at the Rising Sun was very enjoyable and I would definately go again and have already recommended to my neighbours. I wish the new pub management success and hope business thrives.

Since the Riser has reopened under new management the food that the chef Faye has produced has been lovely! We enjoy having this as our local, we’ve been twice for food and multiple times for drinks! The staff are so friendly and welcome dogs!! The food was good quality and we all left with a clean plate!

Great bar staff. Cant comment on food as it was not available on our visit. Lovely character pub deserves more patrons.

We have not eaten here yet but the food looks good we will be revisiting for food soon for something to eat.

It was ok,doombar was off but jail ale ok it took a little time to get served as bar man distracted by his phone in the nar

Had our first meal here since the new owners have taken it on. I have to say the food was lovely, hot and arrived within a good time. Its nice to see its getting a bit more of an atmosphere and more people. Just need to start turning some heating on the place was a little cold.

A good old-school pub. Great beer and friendly staff, which is what's important. We'll certainly be back.

Recently visited with a friend and great to see a traditional pub menu and drinks. Staff were welcoming and chatty. Would recommend the Rising sun and will be returning

Lovely Sunday lunch at a pretty local pub. Under new management so food now being served. The food was excellent and the service first class. Can heartily recommend the food.

Service is great, very friendly and we can take our dog along as well! Water and treats (if they are allowed) is available for the dogs 🐕 😀..

Just had a best roast for ages. There is a new landlord and bar staff. Pub cleaned within an inch of its life! Food fresh and just scrummy! Welcome back Rising Sun we have missed you x

We've had quite a few landladies and landlords over the years . The pub is recovering after covid and could really do with a pub resteraunt menu. We understand the owners are looking into introducing food in the future . The staff are lovely and we enjoy a drink in there whenever we can . Lovely atmosphere and it's one of Plymouth's oldest pubs.

A few friends met there to celebrate a birthday what a great place full of atmosphere so quaint the staff made us very welcome great service we will be returning

I love this little gem of a pub. Landlady's very helpful, and organised me a taxi home as my shopping bags were heavy. Oh and dig friendly.

We like this pub. Our visit, September 2020, was to sit in the sunny garden area and enjoy a very nice pint each. I t was spoiled somewhat by two mouthy 30 year old's, swearing and spitting on the floor, but that wasn't the pub's fault. The interior is very welcoming and we will go back to sample the indoor services. Nice staff, good pint, reasonable prices, clean and tidy.

Came in for a drink during the day with family, the bar staff were very polite and the pub had a lot of character. I would come here again, only downside is the lack of parking.

Good to see it open again as it's a nice chilled pub. Just could do with stocking the bar up but that will come in time.

Didn't hate it, but there was nothing to love about it, very dark, and to many rules listed for a local pub.

Well this pub used to be such a big part of this residential community for old and young ,this pub is being brought to it's knees by current management the owner of the Hyde park .Yes the pub did have it's problems and certain elements needed deterring .But it used to be away on checking on our elderly neighbours and friends ,the new management as made most decent folk not welcome ,who knows when it's going to open (rarely ) and if it might even have something as basic as draught cider or the phone or card machine, might or might not work .Such a shame to see this lovely local pub ruined well done Enterprise brewery

Great place for a pint and a lovely atmosphere

The refurbished area is nice and has good comfortable seating. Number of rules on dress etc seem poorly advised given the local area includes alot of working people. No credit card transactions which is baffling in this day and age, also no high chairs for a supposedly 'family friendly' place. Ale selection is disappointing given the variety carried by the Hyde Park (same ownership). Kitchen still shut so still no food available. All in all, hoping for some more improvements as this is my local essentially .

Really cleaned up. Great little, unexpected country pub. Nice clientel. Once food is up and running this pub will be packed out.

Don't like dogs in pubs there where 4 more like Battersea dogs than local pub not right,ok in a village not in town.

Glad this pub has re-opened and hopefully the poor image that was allowed to form previously will so be eroded. House rules on the doors show steve bartlett the new owners mean business. Only criticism 1 glass of wine and a pint of cider £10.20. He may be trying to create a country feel but this is Plymouth not Surrey

First time ever visited for a quick pint. Opened the door and everyone just stopped talking and stared at me all the way to the bar. Felt quite intimidating, would not go again.

My wife and live in the vicinity of the Inn but do not use it on a regular basis but when we have we have found very pleasant, until tonight! The young woman who served us had little or no customer service, she served us our drinks (which were nice and chilled) I had to ask how much they were, she took the money didn't say thank you or so much as enjoy. She seemed more intent in chatting to the young man at the other side of the bar. We had planned to eat there but this put us and decided to take our business elsewhere. I took our empty glasses back to the bar and never even got a thank you or have a good evening. I will not be back anytime soon.

Gorgeous little pub, with excellent & lovely food. Staff are always polite, friendly & welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

Proper pub with friendly staff and a good pint of Doom. Food is only served Wednesday through Saturday evenings with a different theme each night plus the standard menu. Sunday is roast lunch and all the prices look ok. This pub is also dog friendly.

Lovely traditional pub in the city.

Asked for a pint only to be told after it was poured that they don't take card payment. That's why they have an atm inside the pub charging £1.80 for withdrawals. And no newspapers. No wonder I was the only customer.
