The Rising Sun in Manchester

Must admit my mate needed a pee lol but must say really good side street pub and reasonabley priced.

Proper town centre boozer, Gary the landlord is ace, laugh a minute. Go and have a pint.

Having known of this pubs location for many years and walking past it, we found ourselves at a loose end yesterday and as we were near by we popped in. The pub had only just opened, so we were the first customers. The Landlord was sat at a table and gave us a nice greeting, and the member of staff that was talking to him immediately went behind the bar and greeted us with a cheerful smile. We spent 2 hours there, and this was a pleasant experience. We had a reservation for food elsewhere at 2.15pm, otherwise we would have spent longer. During those 2 hours, it did get busier, and as there were 2 football matches being shown on the different screens, the crowd was mixed and the atmosphere was great! The landlord thanked us for visiting when we left, which was a nice touch. Once we had finished our food at another venue, we returned to watch the second half of the community shield that was on. The pub was now very full, with standing room only, which wasn't a problem and is to be expected in any decent venue if you arrive half way through a game. We would have happily returned in the future based upon our experience, but the amazing personal touch that will definitely make us return was the very welcome gesture from the Landlord offering us the seat he had been using whilst speaking to one of the customers and she also offered us her seat. Overall a great experience and I am sorry we hadn't experienced this place sooner and look forward to returning!

Decent selection of beer, great staff and good atmosphere. Quite pricy for a single pint however.

Cracking establishment, warmest pub in Manchester.

Pleasant pub. Unfortunately some aggressive clientele on a Saturday afternoon. Gents sink out of order and could not see any antibacterial gel so not good.

5 star, would give more. We frequented the rising sun a couple of weeks ago for a work convention get together. Cracking old school traditional pub (not many left) beer and atmosphere fantastic. Lovely set of bar staff, easy to get served. We’re planning on going back again in for the next convention in Feb. Didn’t have food so have left blank.

Stopped for a drink before meeting a friend. One of the few traditional pubs in the city centre.

From the outside it always looks quiet. Getting in there it certainly wasn't. Great atmosphere. Quality cask ale. Will need to nip back.

Had the cheese & broccoli soup absolutely amazing... staff so helpful Robyn Carl and James...Strongbow bang on definitely recommend

Using this pub since 1990 when my now wife worked across the road in a sandwich bar ( now gone! ) Always a decent pint and a friendly atmosphere, will be returning.

This place is quaint and loveable for Manchester city centre! They have a wonderful bartender there called James who is very cute and accommodating!! Highly recommended

Didn't eat just had a drink but it was a scruffy, dirty and smelly pub - won't be visiting again. Couldn't drink my gin and tonic quick enough. We were early for a restaurant so decided to have a quick drink first but wish I had not bothered.

I've given it another star because on reflection I was giving the rating on the design of the pub because its narrow inside which isn't anybodies fault. But the atmosphere and cleanliness is very good. Can get very busy but the service is equal to the customers needs. It's fair to say never had any reason to fault the establishment. Great atmosphere when lively 👌

The door on entering pub bangs so loudly when customers came through...We left

Proper locals joint in amongst the stag and hen and TOWIE type bars. Rough and ready, beer on the floor joy.

Great pub in Manchester just off Deansgate. A good old fashionable drinking house. Some really nice beers and all the other drinks you may need. Really Fab staff, warm friendly and good memory of all our orders.

Great city bar with a lot of history.

Old pub just off Albert Square, limited seating, reasonable ales. In and out by two different doors, the out takes you to an illuminated ball and a statue of Abraham Lincoln. Useful pub for an en route drink but not one I'd stay in for too long tbh.

Great little find - friendly staff, well conditioned beer and a very knowledgeable landlord who helped with directions to some of the older pubs and other places of interest. More than a few superb pints of Timothy Taylor later........

Ist time been in long time it was very nice place

Sat on Lincoln Square with Abraham Lincoln doomed to forever stare longingly at The Rising Sun. Been many times over the last 48 years. Had its ups and downs but generally sells good real ale. Nice pint of Osset Silver King. Pint of Estrella Damm. £10.10 for the round. Lots of hand pumps with three serving cider.

Visited on a rainy Thursday afternoon in March 2022. Lively, friendly atmosphere waiting inside. Despite looking small from outside was surprised how modern,bright and spacious it was inside. Traditional pub with so many references to historical Manchester and Salford.

Hardly any beer in stock on the Saturday lunchtime of a Bank Holiday weekend. This is the second time I've visited this place for the same to happen. Very poor management! UPDATE: Still poor management though? We went in several pubs that day in Manchester and others over the BH weekend......no issues with any others running out of gas 🤔

In non Covid times this pub has decent selection of real ale but on my last visit only 2 were available & the prices are becoming a joke, nearly a tenner for two pints

I've been coming here for years, but this was my first visit since the pandemic, we called in on a Saturday evening, it was very reassuring to see them rigidly sticking to the guidelines, drinks menus are on the tables & the staff are quick to take orders & drinks arrive quickly, a great Manchester city centre pub..
