Just to make people aware this venue has had a fire recently which is why the main road is closed. (Oct 2023). I have not personally visited but it is in local newspaper. Thanks.

We were there for a get together party yesterday.. T gere were 4 birthdays and about 200 people..very lovely setting and music..but the food preparations were very very slow..when the management knew Saturday booking were so many they should have prepared enough food for the money we pay.. hoppers were very slow and most of our table D idnt get even one..noodles and Buriyani was empty..pls check these and be prepared ..T hst will be great!!

Shocking we came down from up north to go to Wembley stadium and the only hotel left we could find was this that had .mucky walls .plug sockets that didn’t fit .a empty packet of durex in the draws . Mucky shower .burnt carpet Exert do not recommend this what do ever

I don't recommend this hotel, finding the entrance is almost a superhuman task, once you find it, you will be greeted by unpleasant staff. The rooms are a disaster, I wouldn't take children to such an environment. They didn't look very clean, there was an incredible stench in the evening, and there was a generator above our room that made an incredible noise. The lady who was also there in the room found a mouse. There was no hot water. They have food on the menu, but we didn't see anyone in the kitchen the whole time. The bathroom is not much, and you can hear everything. It is certainly not at the level of a 3* hotel.

Room is dirty , furniture and carpet old and dusty. Staines in the bedding. Rude staff. Utter rip off

Stayed at this hotel as close enough for Wembley Stadium. Rooms dated and a little smelly in first room, second night room a little better still very dated.

The most horrible restaurant in the UK. I never saw before such kind of rude restaurant staff. They were lying about our booking and the price. When we ask for the manager they started shouting. They took £35 per person when they told us it was £19.95 when we booked. We didn't even get food properly. Absolutely horrible.

Just ordered delivery takeaway ordering 2 main meals & they deliver 1. When asked for refund they tell me to make another order with them and then they will refund it back but id still have to pay the delivery fee! I said id rather just have the refund as im not paying them again to get my original money back. They tell me they cant issue the refund and to go online. Terrible service.

We did our engagement party here and the service was terrible,food was cold and the owner went back on his word on many decisions previously discussed. We also stayed at the hotel to get ready in and they ran out of hot water. When we phoned to tell them they said "hot water is finished!" 100% do not recommend to do anything here

Went with my friend from Manchester. Great Srilankan food in Buffett style and eatas much as you want. Friendly staff.

if you are Sri Lankan the food will be something you’ll enjoy and the staff are very friendly but some food is prepared while you are there and it’s slows the whole buffet process!

Authentic Sri Lankan food - esp the buffets in weekends. Hoppers are the main attraction and is of great quality, but can be of slow service during peak times. Poor table service during peak times as staff seems untrained.

This was the worst place I have ever stayed at, I didn't look at reviews but wish I had!! Urine stained mattresses on the landing outside the room - cigarette smell wafting from other rooms. Generally dirty and unkempt.

To enjoy traditional Sri Lankan food you have to visit this place. specially on Saturday with live music and veriaty of food ,hoppers , ambul thial ,mutton kottu, fried rice, cuttlefish..etc

Waited over two hours before we got served. The waitress disappeared as we were looking for the food. The place lacks cleanliness not sure what's the state of the kitchen. Food tasted good can't complain about it. But needs serious cleaning up of the place too cluttered. For a warm month as this July the aircon needs to be turned on not after the customers complain it's warm. Looks like the place was run by one person i.e he being the chef, waiter, bartender, cashier............🙄🤔. Won't dine here again taking the cleanliness aspect of the dinning room 🤮

Being half Sri Lankan I absolutely love Sri Lankan food however I don’t often eat it out since we eat it at home so often. However if ever I want to eat Sri Lankan food out then this is the place I’ll go. The food was simply delicious and it had a real home cooked feel about it. We went for the buffet and there was such a beautiful selection of food. Meat and fish curries, rice, noodles, daal and vegetable curries and more! A real treat for me were the hoppers that were being made on request. The person who was making the hoppers is a real expert! The staff are great here and I personally like the interior of the place. I believe that this is a great home from home for any Sri Lankan and also the best place around to try some good Sri Lankan cuisine. I look forward to returning!

First time I had been here in over 10 years, and I am glad we went. The buffet was superb with 2 different types of rice, mutton and chicken curry, mutton kottu, and a few veg curries. Also 2 hopper stations as this is the main event of the buffet. We also had entertainment from the singer who sang in English, Tamil and Hindi, plus there was another singer to sing Singhala songs. Only gripe was that the buffet opened at 7.20 and they weren't fully set up until about 7.40.

Perhaps this restaurant may be good for buffet and what they call "hoppers" or dosas, it is no good for a la carte food. Half the dishes we ordered were not available and what was served was awful. Perhaps vegetables were straight from frozen bags and certainly "chapatis" were. Wrong dishes were brought to the table, waiting staff were as frustrated as we were. Waiting time to be served was totally unacceptable.

Slightly gloomy ex-pub serving Sri-Lankan food. The hoppers (egg cooked in a pastry basket) were delicous and served with a range of sauces from cool fried onion to very hot chilli. Good range of lager beers. Very competitve pricing. Service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant was clean and the toilets spotless. I will go again.

we had a table booked at 8pm and the cook was not ready to do the hoppers and end up waiting for very long time. The place was too hot. Didn't get any air con where we were sitting. All windows were sealed and no air. Not much choice with desserts only watalppan and ice cream. They even could get us any ice cream as the ice cream melting in the kitchen. They charged us full price.

Food was tasty. There was good selection of vegetables and meat and fish dishes. Everyone enjoyed hoppers (Appa) . People were allowed to have any number of hoppers. Need more staff for service. Staff were were good. Toilets need to be painted .

Unos días más tarde recibimos bien aparcar en la aplicación civil agresiva Ltd A pesar de tener todas las pruebas de visitar este lugar, la aplicación civil continúan hostigando a mí para un pago considerable. Fue reservado aquí por dos noches mientras estaba trabajando cerca. Reservamos en todas aceptar y luego entramos a la habitación. Pasillo estaba sucio y descuidado luego vimos las habitaciones. Mi habitación era desalentador, la cortina se fija a la ventana no puede abrir, la alfombra estaba negro y pegado. Las paredes estaban cubiertas de manchas y el baño no era mucho mejor. La otra habitación muchachos era igual de malo. La pared tenía manchas de todo y sólo agujeros llenos y no pintadas. El baño también estaba en un mal camino. Salimos temprano, ya que ambos nos sentimos sucios dejando las habitaciones, la oficina llamó temprano en la mañana para cancelar la segunda noche pero el personal se negó a dar un reembolso.

Como sugiere el nombre, el Sol Naciente era una vez el deteriorado inglés boozer con unas cuantas habitaciones abandonadas de arriba. Ahora ya no es como el inglés pero nada fotos ha cambiado mucho. No confundir este lugar con el 'original' de fama Sol Naciente de moteros, ni el House en el éxito individual. . Nada cerca. Es apenas creíbles que cualquiera puede premio más de 2 estrellas, así que ten cuidado.

Es un pub restaurante que sirve buffet de Sri Lanka y de un menú. Cualquiera que haya estado en Sri Lanka que he probado los crujientes tortitas hechas de harina de arroz, llamado tolvas, sirve en casi cada boutique y hotel de cinco estrellas en...

I visited twice last year on my last visit i gained parking ticket as well as my food bill from there allocated car park even i register in there computer on my visit .They ask me to bring the ticket to sort the payment due work load i couldnt make it so i paid before 14days After two days i took the parking ticket to manager he totally refuse to hlep because i paid my ticket.I won't be going back at all.this spoiled all the customer service and food.Please stay away if you don't want get two bills at end of the evening.

Seriously? They should be embarrassed charging people to stay here. Shelters are spotless compared to this place. The stairway up to the rooms was dirty and the red carpet was stained badly. The room on very first glance was extremely basic. Get what you pay for. But you at least want somewhere clean. The walls were cream and dirty all over. There was dirt marks everywhere. The latches on the window was broken. The shower was a joke. There was nowhere to put it up and once on pissed water out all over the place. The grouting was black. Only enough hot water for 1 person. There was no remote for the tv and when we asked for one they just said the batteries ran out. Also asked for more pillows as the 2 we had were about an inch thick. There was mouldy biscuits beside the bedside table. If it weren't for the fact that it was new years Eve and everywhere else was fully booked we'd of left. They need to employ a decorator and cleaner! Least the sheets and towels were clean.

Very nice food and excellent service, went with my family enjoyed the sunday dinner buffet with live music... Very traditional Sri Lankan food, with live Hopper cooking..Enjoyed the hot hot hoppers..Value for the money

The hoppers and curries never disappoint - but the curries are a little hot, even for my family's asian palate. Great value, will return again and again. I wasn't wild about the musical performance - it was too noisy in the open room while we were eating - but the food was great !

Everything went perfectly for us at the hotel. The meals were great. We were close to Wembley for the American Football. It was easy to get a taxi both to and from Wembley. Great people at the hotel, very pleasant and helpful.

I had wanted to go to the restaurant here for a while to experience some sri Lankan home cooking. Unfortunately I did not find my experience enjoyable. The venue itself is unwelcoming, dated and run down. There is a door adjoining the pub which is left open and we could hear noisy pub customers swearing loudly from the other side. A waitress did close the door but doors were soon opened again as the bar is linked on both sides. Service: was friendly and nice but not professional I.e. Getting orders wrong, bringing dishes without serving spoons etcFood: pretty hot but ok. Hoppers were lovely. Curries so so. Worst ice cream I ever had. Blatantly value ice cream sold for far more than it was worth - do not get this! Atmosphere: as previously mentioned it just doesn't have a welcoming vibe. It's one of those places where you can forgive the terrible decor if the food was great but it wasn't. Also it didn't seem the cleanest. The high chairs were quite dirty.Verdict: doubt I'll come again!

Just to be clear I am writing a review for the restaurant of The Rising Sun, not their hotel! I went to the buffet restaurant yesterday and the food was tasteless, it didn't seem fresh and I've woken up sick this morning! I am pretty sure it's because of the food! The restaurant looks dated and while the live music is good it is way too loud so we can't hear ourselves talk! I won't be coming back!

Booked for a work colleague and he's just rung me with a review and stated it was a pretty good hotel for its price, A simple room and bathroom both clean and tidy, exactly what he needed just to put his head down with working that way on. Check in was quick and easy and the food was spot on. Colleague has picked up a business card as he said he will use them again in the future. I booked it for him and the gentleman i spoke to over the phone was very helpful and polite.

We had only got as far as ordering our drinks before we realised we had to get out as soon as possible. Staff are extremely rude! Place is a dump!

Good hotel for the price that it is. it's just a standard clean room with a standard clean bathroom. TV. No air con which could be a killer on a hot day. but check in is quick and painless and it's got food locations and tube close by. Not bad at all

I can honestly say this is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and the guilt I feel for subjecting my partner and 10 year old son to it is unbearable. We walk in the door and the curtains were a dirty stained yellow colour, hanging off and were unable to be opened. The wardrobe was so close to the bed the doors would only open an inch. The kettle would not work. The hairdryer would not work. The shower head would not stay in place so we had to crouch in the shower to wash anything over chest height. The toilet would not flush. The wallpaper was hanging off the walls. And the carpet was one big stain. The traffic outside made it impossible to sleep and the pillows were about an inch thick. Oh and we booked breakfast as well via hotels.com only to find out on arrival its not included.I am not someone that normally complains as I truly believe you get what you pay for.......however this was 90 quid for one night and I've stopped in far better for 25. Please do not buy in to the whole London prices malarkey as if this was 25 in total it would still have been overpriced. We were down for a football match which kicked off at 8 however after arriving at 4 we left for the game at 4.45 as we couldn't bare to spend any longer in the room.....and please bare in mind it was absolutely throwing it down outside but it was a far better option than staying in the room any longer. Same the following morning after a horrific nights sleep it was basically up and out of the door as quick as possible. The only saving grace about our stay is that the train station was right over the road and this aided a quick getaway. This was part of my sons 10th birthday and I've done nothing but apologize to him since.Please.......I implore you.......do not stay here.

We stayed one night as we were going to a funeral in sudbury. Worst place we have ever stayed in. The place was noisy inside as well as outside.The staff were nice and helpful but the place is badly in need of refurbishment or even to be closed down. The room was basic but we expected that for what we paid. The bathroom had dust all over the upper part of the wall. They have obviously not heard of feather dusters ! The taps just dribbled out and the shower did not work.we booked an English breakfast which was nearly cold, my husband asked for his to be warmed up, which didn't make it much better I didn't eat mine and to add insult to injury we were charged more than the price quoted when we made the booking !We paid just to get out of the place.

Overall the looks of the restaurant was decent, but the food left us really disappointed. Very small range of buffet dishes for weekend and the food looked it was defrosted and theb warmed up. Service was nice and friendly with a nice band playing music.

This place is truly horrendous avoid at any cost its dirty noisy the electrics are dangerous the window wouldn't shut the toilet didn't flush at midnight I gave it up and left and drove back home ( Sheffield) this place needs shutting asap

The problem with the reviews on this page are that people are reviewing two different things. This is not the fault of the reviewers but of the way this has been setup on Tripadvisor. There are two parts to this establishment:1) The hotel2) The restaurant (which is run separate to the hotel)1) The hotelI haven't visited the hotel as I live locally and therefore my review does not incorporate this element. From what I can see, all the negative reviews (as of when I am submitting my review anyway) seem to relate to the hotel.2) The restaurantThis is a really nice Srilankan restaurant walking distance from Sudbury Hill station. From the outside it looks like a pub because that was what it used to be. Now though only the function room is dedicated to the 'pub area' which can be accessed from a side entrance. The main entrance is for the restaurant. To the right of the pub is where the hotel is situated. The restaurant is one of my favourites places for Srilankan food. On the weekends they have live music which includes Sinhala Tamil and sometimes Hindi music too. The artists are friendly and tend to try and cater for whoever is there. The staff are friendly and the food is really nice (even though on the weekend it is a buffet. They do daal, rice, fish curry, mutton curry, fresh arpa and wattalupan. The buffet is also really well priced. The only problem I have when visiting this venue is that there is limited parking.So if you are looking for a Srilankan restaurant which actually caters for Srilankans then this is your venue. This is also my favourite place to visit whenever Srilanka are playing in the cricket world cups. Atmosphere is awesome and on these days you should definitely book as there will be loads of Srilankans supporting the team!

We booked this hotel for our holiday.. Very comfortable location to visit the city, near to the tube station...! Staffs were very polite and service was excellent. The facilities were good enough and standard. We will visit again.....

The room wasnt bad,clean with a bath but right over a busy road! We did not sleep at all and at 5.10 am the fire alarm went off which did not help.Got ready to exit but it went off after a few mins.No exalination though!

We booked this hotel for work colleagues and arranged payment by Company credit card. However the following morning the manager said payment had not been made and confiscated our drivers keys, in effect holding the two men hostage until the office opened and we were able to make a BACS payment. On top of that the hotel was not clean. We shall not be using it again.

Although the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size, when we arrived there was a lot of confusion about payment and we had to go get more money which we didn't expect to be doing. As well as this I was very confused that we had tea and coffee and milk but were not given a kettle. Perhaps there was one downstairs but I would have thought it would be available in the room. I'm sure the restaurants nice but I would say avoid this 'hotel' unless there is no other option.

I urge you not to stay at this " hotel".I ended up staying here due to no other hotel being available.I write reviews on every hotel I stay at, giving my honest opinion which gives other travellers what to expect.Sadly this doesn't seem to be the case with other peoples reviews, especially in the case of the Rising Sun !!!My expectations of this "hotel" we're realised on entering the door leading up to the rooms.Dirty threadbare carpet, which in itself could be dangerous.Damp patches on walls,Old furniture with no handles,Horrible dirty curtains, hiding window sills with peeling paint.TV with only one channel,Carpet with stains on,Taps in bathroom thick with mould,Horrible stain in bath.I could go on, but the pics I've loaded says it all !!!!

I came here yesterday evening and had a wonderful meal. This really is a very different style of asian cuisine (Sinhalese) to the usual Punjabi/Bengali fayre.We arrived on a night where they provided an extensive buffet £12.95 pp: fish, mutton, chicken and various vegetable curries - aubergine, okra, dhaal. Many different types of rice and string hoppers, accompaniments - coconut sambal and chutneys.The pièce de resistance were the hoppers. Cooked to order: with milk, without milk or with an egg.I was impressed with the good attention to hygiene, friendly, welcoming staff and delightful chef who explained the ingredients and curries well.There was live music which was good but on the loud side and we wanted to take some of our leftovers home (so as not to waste the food) which was not possible. These however are small details which would not deter me from recommending or returning to this restaurant. Well worth a visit.

At the weekends this restaurant is a busy hubbub of activity with about 10-15 buffet dishes and fresh food being cooked in front of you as well as a band.During the week it is much quieter affair, and you order off the menu.Both are delicious and both are recommended.
