We have always had a great experience while eating at The Rev, food is always lovely especially their Sunday roastie, their service is brilliant as all their staff are so friendly & helpful Thank you guys

My friend and I went for a meal one evening. We have visited this venue many times over years. Our latest visit was surprisingly very disappointing indeed. We placed our order with the waitress who then served us drinks and then our mail meal, which was okay. We did not see her again that evening or anyone else. No one checked if we wanted more drinks, if the meal was okay nor did they checked to see if we wanted dessert, tea or coffee. It’s not as though the restaurant was full in fact it was a quiet evening, . Very disappointing service.

Came here Wednesday and what a delight. 14 of us in total including children. The lady waitress whose name I did not get was superb. Organised, attentive and on the ball with everything. Food we had was superb. Generous portions, she cooked to perfection. From starters to mains, see attached photos and very reasonable indeed. Well worth a visit

Great time here recently. Nice beer garden and enjoyed one pint too many whilst setting the world to rights with friends. Really good beer selection and friendly staff too.

I travel a lot for business and have occasionally found it intimidating walking into a new pub on my own. However, the Rev James was very welcoming, bar staff chatty and approachable and the locals very friendly. I enjoyed a lovely meal and a few beers and will return if ever in the area again

Booked the rev for a large family meal last minute as had a family down for England. They were very accommodating seeing as there were 18 of us on a Saturday night. Seeing as we were a rowdy bunch who some hadn't seen each other in years their service was outstanding. Nothing was too much, they took photos for us, were friendly and patiently helped us go through the bills as we were paying separate. The atmosphere was fab and everyone had a fab night. The food was cooked to perfection and everyone left happy, a little merry and with full bells, again thank you to all on shift, outstanding and thanks for not only putting up with us but making our family reunion extra special!

Superb lunch today at the Reverend James , one of the best rump steaks I've had. Would certainly call again in the near future 10/10.

Five of us had dinner and drinks last night. The food and service was excellent. Three of us had gammon and eggs all perfectly cooked and was very tasty. The other two had the minted lamb steak again cooked to perfection and again the taste was lovely. Chips were home made and were excellent. I would highly recommend this pub for food and drinks. .

Terrible food, terrible staff, manager with bad attitude. Avoid this pub!!! Ruined a place that me and my family used to love dearly!

Absolutely gutted Brian and Mary no longer run this pub, what used to be a nice place for a meal or a drink is now full of staff with poor attitudes and a rude manager. Poor attitudes and rudeness aside, It’s hard to enjoy a meal with the constant dog barking coming from upstairs. Will be making a formal complaint to the area manager.

Disgraceful attitude by landlady when trying to resolve food issues of meals sent out wrong and some items not cooked properly, will never go there again as long as this woman is in charge, having been a regular customer with previous owners and never had any issues

What a terrible night out!!!! I only wish I’d taken a photo of one of the plates, the presentation was disgraceful but the customer service and attitude of the manageress was even more disgraceful. Poor quality food. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Well what can I say, other than gobsmacked at the manager’s attitude to our complaint. Non professional, rude and should never be running what used to be a lovely pub to visit. The food :- well it was low quality , poorly presented, below average for its price. We all felt that most of it was frozen foods. Presentation was horrendous and most of it was wrong. We all left there VERY DISAPPOINTED AND HUNGRY. When asked for manager we kept getting told “unavailable” and there was no one else in charge. When she did finally come after us insisting to speak to someone she was rude and non helpful. At the end of our complaint she said “I can’t deal with this poo (she swore) now”. So from us that’s enough said. We will NEVER go again, even if we were given a free meal. Just sorry the rest of the staff have to work in that set up.

Expensive prices for low quality food. All but one meal had to be sent back to kitchen as Incorrect. Potato hard and cold, peas like rocks, poor presentation, long wait, overcooked fish cakes and rubbery chicken, missing items from meal, we were also asked to remove the unwanted peas from one plate as the kitchen were to stressed to rectifiy. When we asked to speak to a Manager we were advised that there was no manager available to speak with us. Eventually after Insisting to speak with someone in relation to our concerns over the food we had received, JESS the owner/manager came downstairs. What we didn't expect was to be faced with a terrible attitude, and total disregard for our experience in her establishment. To our disbelief there wasn't even an apology only sarcastic remarks. I do not recommend.

Food unexceptable tasteless dry and poor quality. Service was disorganised.Complained to owner who was rude scruffy argumentative and refused to listen to our complaints.Would not recommended this place if you like good food and service avoid THE REVEREND JAMES in Loughor.

Lost its sparkle Visited Reverend James quite often but only managed to get here since new owners took over. Didn’t recognise any of the friendly staff that used to work here. Mentioned on previous review response from owner that same staff? I didn’t recognise anyone. Popped in for a drink on this occasion. No coffee now which was bad as my elderly mum likes her coffee to warm her up on a cold day. Just seems to have lost its friendly atmosphere.

So friendly and very tasty veggie Sunday lunch. Beautifully cooked veg, great pie and superb roasties! Also gluten free gravy. 👌

Very poor service. Went for a meal and instead of trying to order what we wanted, we were told what was not available after we tried to order. No faggots,no plaice,no curry and no liver and onions, plus on principle not cost , i ordered a pepper chicken which cost less than what i originally ordered but did not get the small refund

The service was brilliant .very welcoming approach .lovely pleasant girls behind the bar .Had food and that was lovely too we go at least once a week now .spotlessly clean which is lovely to see .The Manager was very pleasant chatting away to us nothing was too much for any of them .Even the cleaner was pottering about in the entrance with his duster ..Good to see a busy Pub these days .Esp when she puts on Entertainment . We were regular Rev James visitors. I would have emailed my disappointment straight to them but there is no email address only Facebook that I don't have. First thing we had to walk through people smoking to get through the door. The service was awful. We were told straight away what they did not have available, not a good start. When the food came it was all OK except the chilli that had no flavour and no chilli heat... my friend left hers. The portions were also smaller. Staff did clear glasses but I had to go and ask for dessert menu as the girls were standing about doing nothing and left us waiting 20 minutes after the main course was cleared. We were then told what desserts were not available, so bad. The menus were sticky and grubby. As a group we decided we would not go back.

Previous review got removed so I will reword my experience. Me and my partner visited the Rev for the entertainment as this was something new and exciting. But unfortunately due to the behaviour of some of the staff it completely ruined the night. We had a meal earlier on in the evening which took a while longer than it should have, but thankfully the food was good. Staff could do with chatting less and focus more on customers rather than people having to wait around for drinks and to order. Entertainment was brilliant, Jake was fantastic. Unfortunately we had to leave early as we didn’t feel comfortable in the pub with the behaviour that was going on by members of the team. Very disappointing as this never used to be an issue. Maybe something to do with the new management, but hopefully this issue will be resolved as we love going to the Rev. Will definitely be waiting a while before going back.

We went for a meal with family , as i am a chef with my own resturant i have had no time off so this was a special day, very excited to go out for the first time over christmas, we did want sunday dinner but they wernt doing it so had normal menu, the food was ok , although the cottage pie said it came with chips and peas , my mum didnt want chips so asked for just peas and salad , it came with no peas , when she ask for peas the waitress said the peas are in the pie ! Wierd. But whatever , there were no peas in the pie !! When we said she just laughted and said oh well , there was no check back to see of all was ok with meals we were a table of 10 ,,, we had to wait 20 minutes before they cleared our plates although there were only 2 other small tables eating , we waited another half hour for some one to come take our dessert order but we gave up. And decided to pay the bill at the bar, as no sign of any waitress after clearing, when at bar the young waitress with glasses gave me the bill. I said i would have like dessert but nobody came back and she just laughed , so rude never had such shocking service , also i asked for a credit card recipt and was refused they said we don't give them out , the place is a shambles too young waitresses that dont know what they are doing or dont care , they were walking around chatting most of the time Will never go back

Good food and beer, service excellent, staff friendly and helpful. Not our first visit, and more than happy to recommend.

Always been a favourite place to eat... and now I've had the 2 jabs I'm no longer shielding.I will only eat outside and the was a lovely surprise coming into their grassed eating area... all the tables had a great new coat and looked clean and cheerful.The waitresses were good about distancing and serving drinks and food menus outside.As usual, really great food. Kind, understanding service.Note through a disability I have a sensitivity to background music. This is one place I can eat and I'm very grateful to be able to do so. The kitchen extractor fans can be noisy but there's not really any road noises.

had a very pleasant lunch here last week. service was good food hot and tasty. would certainly go again. my only tiny little issue was the time it took to get track and trace sorted we could have had 2 rounds of drinks.

Just had a beef dinner for my wife and myself and have to say it's the best Sunday lunch We have tasted, everything fresh tasty and the gravy is outstanding. Potions are excellent would definitely recommend

We came today as a family and have a lovely meal- I had the vegetarian red onion, mushroom and potato pie, it’s was perfect!!! My son had cawl, my uncle a cottage pie, cousin had the minted lamb chops!!! Everything was perfect! Will return again soon thank you ❤️

(Service ) restaurant booked for 17.45 hrs Took 15 minutes for drinks and it took 15 minutes To order meal and then it took half an hour for meal to turn up and the restaurant wasn’t hardly full and busy I understand With COVID 19 We had to ask three times for the bill place is so slow its unbelievable

A recently refurbed brains flagship reastraunt pup ,An experience I want to forget the larger was warm the food was cold lots of staff behind bar in safe haven ???? great pity they wouldn't attend to glasses left on tables an saunwiches from lunch time wake ,,,,, 5 star rated someone needs to review the situation we that have taken time to express our opinion and feel it's important going forward in everyone's interests

Since moving to Gorseinon last year, I love taking my little pups to Loughor Foreshore for a walk. We pass the Reverend James to get there so one day decided to pop in for lunch. Wow. Really dog friendly (in the bar area); the bar lady gave us a bowl of water for them and her and another lady came out and gave them a huge fuss and attention (the are little and spoilt so love all attention!) This was really nice and made us all feel so welcome which created such a friendly and homely atmosphere. The food was very reasonably priced, brilliant portion sizes and really tasty. Waitress was really helpful and came to check if we were enjoying our food after a little while (which we definitely were!) As our first experience was so good, we’ve been back a number of times since and I’ve taken my Gran too (she likes coming for walks with the pups for fresh air) and she enjoyed her food too; she’s never been able to finish it; that’s how generous the portions are! I love it here, really glad I found it and popped in that day. I have nothing negative to say; I can’t wait for summer to get here so I can sit outside next time. Thank you for being so welcoming (especially to my pups, they are my furbabies so really did mean a lot) and friendly.

Called here with the family, I have never been before. We reserved our table for 6.30pm got there about 6.15pm walked in shown to our table straight away. Looking through the menus I had mushrooms to start and then I really fancied the ribs and when they turned up I was not disappointed at all. There were seven of us the food all came together. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Ordered a ribeye steak, it came with dry chips (frozen) and a side salad. The steak was ordered to be medium cooked and was well done, dry and tough. Salad was poor in standard, looked as if it was slung on and consisted of lettuce and tomato. Very disappointing. It's sad when a chef send his food out like that. Our waitress seemed miserable, however, other staff were friendly, helpful and smiling. I'd not bother to go there again.

Basic 'Pub Grub'. Was cooked nicely, service was good and was reasonable but it obvoiusly came straight out of the freezer. The fish was rectangular, about an inch thick with thin flat batter, it looked like it came out of a multi pack from Farm Foods.

Good menu with selection of reasonably priced meals at about £8 and upwards. Good specials menu. Only one waitress taking orders bringing food clearing tables and taking money meant service a bit slow. She cld have done with some help but she remained pleasant and helpful all evening

Eat at the Revs now and again, food always excellent and good value. Waitresses pleasant and helpful. The downside is they have a chef who only ever seems to be able to cope with one order at a time, whenever you want to order food there's always a cuffuffle about 'having to ask chef if we can take your order yet as there's a table in front of you" etc, which having worked as a chef myself, I find totally bizarre. There's now a long, rambling, apologetic notice on the bar about no longer allowing tabs for drinks, blaming it all on the accountant and stocktaker! As pub managers, they just need to put a notice up saying 'No More Tabs as of 1.9.19' and stop all the grovelling apologies.Lovely sunny secluded beer garden that allows dogs, but the flower beds are full of dead weeds. Not a pretty sight! The food is very good but management really need to up their game. Run properly, it could be a gold mine.

This is the best spaghetti bolognese I've ever had! All the food is delicious and all home made. Lovely old fashioned pub just how we like it and friendly staff. Lovely big benches outside.

Visited on a weekday evening. Dogs can sit in the bar area only while you eat. There is a fully enclosed garden which can be used in good weather. The staff were friendly and efficient. Do try the Felinfoel Faggots in a rich gravy with mash and peas! Take away meals can also be ordered. Good value for money.

Always an ecellent pint of Reverend James here, and a good selection of food some of it gluten free. Very nice pub with friendly staff in the Welsh village of Loughor

I visit most Tuesday as they have a fun pub quiz. I don’t live in Loughor but go here due to the friendly atmosphere and friendly staff and locals. Food is lovely as well.

Travelled to Swansea to visit our son at Uni and take him out for a walk with our dog and take him for a meal. Booked this pub as it advertised as dog friendly in the bar but not the restaurant which is fair enough. However when we got there we walked into the bar area and was given funny looks. Then a member of staff/manager? Walked up to us and stood in front of me and told me we were only allowed in the bar, which we found was a tiny room out back which was empty and unwelcoming. He didnt even ask me if I had a reservation, which I had booked the day before by phone. The bar/pub has been changed into a restaurant and the tiny back room is clearly just for those dog owner people. If you have a dog and are happy to sit in an anteroom then this will be OK as they will serve you food, but we were not made to feel welcome. We left and went down to The Mumbles where we were all welcomed into the Mermaid Restaurant with open arms and smiling faces.

Went only last night for food at The reverend James . All our meals were just fantastic . We are made very welcome here and the staff are very friendly.

We were warmly welcomed to this lovely old historic pub. Our order was taken at the table by a very friendly and helpful waitress. The food was obviously freshly prepared and of very good quality. We will certainly be returning to the Rev James, if we can get in as because it is so good tables are often fully booked.

This pub serves good food at a great price and the overall experience is made by the staff. The lady who served us was so lovely and genuine and really made our night. Thank you!

Visited the rev this evening as a no cooking holiday treat. We both had our usual garlic mushroom starter which is delicious. Hubby had rump steak which he really really enjoyed. I had rack of ribs which was truly awesome best ribs I've ever tasted wanted to lick the plate. Thanks all see you all soon

Must say I'm a regular at this pub and have never had a bad meal.

We sat in the small bar area of the pub, quite pleasantand quiet. They allowed our dog inside the bar which is always a nice bonus, ordered nachos and the all day breakfast. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever with the food, economically friendly indeed. The all day breakfast was good quality, excellent quality meat l, especially the bacon. Black pudding was slightly dry but was still very tasty. The nachos were great, good have done with some guacamole but that's just my preference.

Even though we had not booked for a busy saturday afternoon, the lovely waitress mad room for us. I had the steak and ale pie. The chunks of beef were succulent and the gravey was to die for. Wifey had lamb cawl which was top notch. I will be going back.

Decent pub food in a friendly atmosphere! Food is sometimes a little disappointing (to much salt for my taste) but generally we always enjoy. Prices are however brilliant value for money! Will likely return!

Went for an unexpected meal on a Monday night and there was one table available because they had a large party booked which was due soon, so we wanted to order our meals before they arrived. Had to ask for our orders to be taken, we ordered 3 starters and 3 mains which were nice, average. Then again couldn't find a waitress to ask for the bill and had to ask at the bar! And when we were leaving the so called large party still hadn't arrived, also the place to do with a makeover.

Haven't been back here for a while. But stopped for a bite to eat. The staff were helpful and friendly. The decor looks a bit dated. And the furniture and carpet well worn. But the food served, was excellent. For good pub grub, at a reasonable price.give it a try.

Excellent pint of Guinness, food is consistently good with warm friendly service. I have not found anything on the menu that is not to my liking. Would definitely recommend this place to eat.

Visited for sunday lunch. A little bit limited menu but eas in the mood for a roast. Well cooked meat and plenty of veg. Very friendly staff. Lovely puddings. Much more extensive menu on otber days. Will return no doubt.

Quaint little pub that offers good food. My partner and myself have dined here many times and have never had a bad experience. It feels like a traditional pub and the decor is good. We always have the steak here and it is always good quality and cooked to perfection. The landlord and landlady are always there, and always busy. Never ever have room for pudding. Highly recommended

Comimos en el bar porque teníamos nuestro perro con nosotros (que fue un éxito instantáneo con el personal y la gente). El menú tenía una selección muy buena y lo que tenía era de primera calidad y el personal proporciona un servicio muy bueno.

Mi esposa y yo tuvimos filetes de solomillo que eran excelentes. Nuestra nieta había salchichas y puré de que ella realmente disfrutamos como hizo la tarta de chocolate y helado de Postre helado. Una comida excelente.

Otra fabulosa cena, servida por el increíble Jamie, que no puedo alabar lo suficiente.

Tuvimos la suerte de conseguir en, o al menos que aunque estábamos hasta la familia con niños revoltosos llegamos. Esto, por supuesto, no es culpa del pub, que logró poder acomodarnos en el entendimiento de que la mesa estaba disponible dentro de una hora y media. Con los gritos de los niños carreras por eso no era un problema. La comida era buena y los precios sólo un poco más que razonable pero el servicio realmente muy agradable. Lástima los padres que no saben cómo comportarse.

Staff very helpful and friendly went for Sunday lunch sadly not what we were expecting very poor portions three little potatoes in their jackets two roasts one Yorkshire and the beef was pathetic three little slices so thin you could blow it off your plate it was packed beef not even cut off a joint veg in dishes we had to share not a lot all in all very disappointed if we try it in future hope there is a Lotof improvement

I hadn been I the rev for 30 years, when I drew up it;looked the same ii waked in ad sened the same atmosphere thatm ade the pub many years agoI sat don and was propmly serve by a smiling waiter who took my order and delivered avery nice pint of bitter.my food came it was lovely, I ate it with relish.as I paid my bill I looked arpond the pub rembering wat we used to do there.altoether still a great plae to call for a drink and or food

visited last thursday dinnertime about two p.m not over crowded but enouth to give a buzz the menu was usual pub fare but with some loca welsh favourites opted for inexpensive early day dishes on menu which were very good and more than enougth to fill you service was good if not a little slow

Have only started coming here in the last few weeks have always found the staff excellent and service great food and drink is always to a high quality will definitely be retuning.

We drive about 20 mins to go here as the food is so good. That's way further than anywhere else we usually eat! The food is usually served quickly and staff are friendly.Nicely situated if you are travelling from Swansea to Llanelli or vice-versa, pop in for breakfast or lunch, we do!5 star dining I usually reserve for real special cuisine. However, that has a really special price tag! I give this the full 5 stars as the prices are remarkably good. Example: they serve saute potatoes as one of the standard potato choices. For about £7 you have a great choice including my favourite, see below. My friends often have one of the curries, the pie, or the breakfast choice.

Have had quite a few meals here always served with a smile excellent staff and top notch food tried everything on the menu , time to have new menu usually eat here once a week

Visit the Reverend James on a regular basis and can say the food is always tasty and the staff are really pleasant. Lovely pub to visit very friendly local.

Just down the road of Island House the birth place of Welsh revivalist Evan Robert's, this was a delight. Fresh home cooked style meals. This was bliss in a pub. My wife was well catered for with her choice of meal, mine was pure comfort food. The staff were excellent and the local's were very friendly. within 1/2 an hour we felt like locals. That's no small task in Wales. Enjoy the beauty of a Welsh local pub

went over for some lunch. i am in a wheelchair at the moment and unable to get in to many places to enjoy a meal. the reverend james has excellent wheelchair access and the disabled toilet is very easy to get to and plenty of romm to turn around in there and feel like a real person. we really enjoyed both starter and main course this week which was excellent. the service was superb and didnt have to wait long at all for our food which was delicious. we have been back again since that to enjoy a nice hot drink after a short walk and was made to feel equally as welcome that time too. shall look forward to going there again real soon.

Brian and Mary, mine hosts, have dome much over the last few years to revive a pub that didn't really feel inviting. They've been successful as the pub is busy for most of the day and evening, seven days a week. There is limited room to sit outside. They have a quiz night and several other activities during weekday evenings.

Great pub with very friendly staff and lovely food. They have a great menu with a specials board and the food is plentiful. The landlord and landlady, Brian and Mary are 2 of the nicest people you could meet.

Good meal, my wife almost always goes for the Cyw Iar Cymraeg (chicken covered with bacon with a cheese and leak sauce) prices are very reasonable with a table service and the staff are very friendly.

I've been to The Rev James twice recently because I enjoyed it so much the first time.The food here is gorgeous. Proper pub grub. There's plenty of choice on the menu and everything I've had had been lovely.Great friendly service.Very reasonably priced.

We were told to take a visit at the Rev James and we weren't disappointed. There was a good selection of meals to choose from and they were all very reasonably priced. The food was really good and we couldn't fault a thing.Really great helpful staff and great service. Definitely going to visit again!!!

This was my first visit in a very long time for food. We had called in last summer but they were booked up and had no tables free. This time, we went at 5pm with work colleagues, hot food. The menu has many choices and a few dishes were recommended by friends to try, such as the Hickory Chicken and the Liver dish. I opted for scampi and I was not disappointed, well cooked and piping hot. Staff were friendly and the restaurant is spacious. The bar s well stocked, although we were on soft drinks. I will be returning with family and friends.

This was or first visit to this Pub Restaurant but it won't be our last meal's were very tasty service was excellent and at a very good price.

We have visited this pub on a few occasions as it is next to a very nice park where we like to walk our dog. It is also adjacent to the Loughor Estuary, another beautiful place for walking. The pub always affords a friendly welcome and the food is consistently good and remarkably inexpensive. The bar area is also dog friendly and there are a few tables outside.

We called in to the Reverend James on bank holiday Monday, food was great, proper home cooked traditional pub meals, always friendly staff, the landlords are very friendly and professional.

Have to say we totally enjoyed our food here today. Chris the chef, food was beautiful and the price was very reasonable. Will be returning and I would totally recommend here.

Was recommended the reverend James, had a really good meal, not over priced at all and value for money, all staff were really friendly, would definitely recommend and will be paying a visit again soon, the Welsh chicken dish is lush. :-)

I visited here for my uncles birthday and I wasn't disappointed. The food was very good and the service was very fast. Free wifi for customers also and a lovely night out and I would defiantly come back here again.

Excellent food, very hospitable staff. As a family of four, we visited the Rev James on bank holiday weekend. We phoned ahead to book and good job too as it was busy. Our food was impressive. We decided to return the following night and again phoned ahead. It was quieter but the food was just stunning and a very reasonable price. Thank you.

Just arrived home after having an evening meal at this great pub/resteraunt. We were 6 adults and we were glad we had rung ahead to book a table, it was very busy but our waitress was very pleasant and efficient the food was great value for money, tasty and plentiful. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment, and will definitely be returning soon. Thank you.
