A very cute and well-kept hotel, new and very nice bathroom, good beds, breakfast good typical British and Continental breakfast… Great location, very short distances to the Old Course, pubs, center

Very disappointing. Our room was a walk-up on the top floor and dormer style, therefore we spent much of the time there crouching. We were there during very chilly, windy days (despite being early July) and yet the room was sweltering. The bed was small and uncomfortable; the incessant screeching of seagulls made it doubly hard to sleep. The bathroom door neither completely opened (because it would hit the sink) nor completely closed (because it was too big for the frame). The breakfast was insultingly bad looking.

We enjoyed an amazing stay for valentines and the reception staff were lovely. Its a pity the restaurant was closed and we only found out the bar was still open the next morning or we could have sat for an hour or so after the other local pubs had closed. They upgraded us to the Old Course room which was a welcomed surprise however in my booking I did request a double bed rather than two singles, what we got were two single mattresses pushed together which is not what I would have expected from this class of hotel, this was quite uncomfortable to sleep in as you are constantly rolling into the hole in the middle of the two single mattresses make when together. It did affect the overall experience but I've kept the 5 stars because we appreciated the free upgraded room.

As avid watchers of Masterchef, were really excited to try the food of Dean Banks at Haar. We were not disappointed. The style of the restaurant, the way you ordered, the staff and buzzing the atmosphere all added to the experience of the amazing food. The food is simply delicious!

I feel fortunate to have eaten in some great restaurants around the world and the food here has to rank up there with some of the best! The flavour combinations and the attention to detail were something to behold. I would imagine it will be tough to get a table here in the future!!

We didn't even look at the menu but trusted Chef Dean Banks to send us courses of his choice. We ended up having seven of them. I imagined Haar being a seafood restaurant only but the lamb and duck served to us were an amazing and tasty surprise. I had the immense pleasure to try Dean's version of Banoffee which I saw on the BBC Masterchef professionals TV show with envy. It was as exquisite as I imagined.

Overall service poor following the finding of hair in my food. I was informed chef was ‘horrified’ but I am willing to bet not as much as I.

I wanted to give the chef an impression of our visit but I didn't receive a response. Here is my review, essentially the e-mail I sent to Dean. Given the hair in the bread that wasn't well handled by the staff the restaurant could have been having a very bad service.

Had an amazing experience at Haar this evening. The staff are so helpful in describing the dishes, advising what is best to try which was awesome as we tried dishes we wouldn't normally have gone for. The food itself is amazing. The fusion of flavours leaves you wanting to try more and the less is more portion size means you can. The atmosphere is relaxed with a buzz of happy diners all enjoying Deans food. Definately recommend and can't wait to go back again!

Beautiful restaurant and a stunning meal. Exceptionally attentive staff and a first class chef. A special treat for my partner and I from our daughter and son in law. A privilege to be sat at chef's table and watching the wizard himself at work. Dean Banks, your creativity and ability to awaken the tastebuds and create such gastronomic delights is truly magical. Your sir are truly a Masterchef!

I’ve been meaning to review this place for ages! Finally got round to it after months, but here it goes! I had a friend visiting me from Aberdeen and we both used to work in the fine dining industry so I wanted to go somewhere we could get a fine meal and glass (or 3) of bubbly. I never usually use itison but had been on it while waiting for appointments at work and came across this place as they had a deal on for a 5 course tasting menu which is right up our street. We arrived and it was pretty quiet, but I was impressed with the decor and the lighting was perfect. We got to chose a table which was nice and the gentleman who looked as though he was working alone was very welcoming. We weren’t given menus and told the tasting menu was going to be a surprise. Which I found very intriguing. We were asked if we had any dietary requirements and it was then on with the mystery. Having not been to this place before we had no idea what we were getting into but it was absolutely divine. We were given an amuse-bouche - which if I remember rightly was some handmade oat cakes with a salmon pate, sounds simple but there was a lovely twist to it which I can’t recall but trust me I wouldn’t remember a salmon pate for nothing! Next we had apple and celeriac veloute, which is my absolute favourite and this was up there with the best I have tried. The start of the mains (yes there were two!) we were given both a fish dish and a meat dish both cooked to absolute perfection with lovely imaginative flavours and the portion sizes were perfect so we weren’t too full for the next two courses. I can’t quite rack my brains as to what they were but I remember having very happy taste buds. We then were given a cheeseboard with local and continental cheeses and amazing homemade chutney before finishing with dessert which if I remember correctly was a chocolate and ginger ganache, rich and the perfect end to a lovely meal. Wine was excellently recommending by the waiter (or could have been manager) who was very knowledgeable. We barely had to touch the bottle too, we were always topped up. It did get a lot busier as the night went on and it appeared he was working alone, but you never would have guessed it. He was super efficient and attentive despite having other diners who he paid the same attention too, he must just be fab at timing things! Good banter too which is what we like when we eat out. I’ll definitely be coming back for a bloody lovely dining experience. Thank you!

Lovely anniversary dinner last Friday. Excellent meal in a lovely restaurant with very nice staff. Very good Sauvignon Blanc at a reasonable price. Only small criticism was that the doughnut was a bit solid but everything else was lovely. Definitely recommended.

We have just had lunch at the restaurant in kinettles hotel. What a fantastic time we had. We all had 2 couseres..main and pudding. We all had pork on a bed of black pudding mash and my husband had the pan seared cod.the food was cooked to perfection. It was very well presented with great attention to detail. The puddings were absolutely tremendous. As for the service well that was first class...Alasdair was spot on, he looked after everyone of us making sure we had everything we needed. HE is such a lovely person and really knows how to deal with people and make them feel very welcome. The restaurant itself is stylish and well laid out.We will definitely go back without any hesitation. Keep up the good work...your all doing a great job.

My husband and I had lunch here to celebrate his 60th birthday. We were made to feel very welcome and the staff made it a special occasion with a couple of extra touches. The food was excellent especially the desserts which were to die for! We would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting St. Andrews.

Following a relaxing massage my sister and the restaurant. What a pleasure that was. Light, airy dining room, delightful service and amazing food. One of the best restaurants I’ve visited in many a year and return visit already planned.

We have visited this restaurant twice with itson vouchers offering very good deals eg '2 course dinner for 2 with prosecco for £39' so worth it when you compare the prices on the a la carte menu.

We have just had the most fabulous 5 course tasting menu. We also had matched wines left to the discretion of the very knowledgable staff. This was the right choice. Both the food and wine were fantastic. Beautiful and interesting food. Thank you all so much.

Myself and boyfriend are just back from a night stay here and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The hotel was absolutely beautiful! The staff couldn’t of been any nicer and the room was so spacious and clean. The spa was FAB, we were also lucky enough to have the sauna, jacuzzi and steam room all to ourself, so relaxing!

Great experience for 'just a roll and coffee'. Will recommend and visit again. Didn't expect much from a doubler and a coffee but for £8, wow. Seemed like a triple egg scrambler on there, almost too much for me. It's a pity I didn't have more time to relax and eat it leisurely as I had to get going. Thanks

Amazing service and great food. Hussain picked out selections since we didn’t know much about Indian food. Spot on both times we visited. All staff were excellent. Appetizers amazing. If I lived here I’d be hard pressed to stay away.
