Was the first time we went into the reiver, the neck oil ipa was very good we had the 5 plate selection as a light lunch which was tasty and well presented

Good variety of food and ample portions with pleasant helpful staff. Great for wheelchair users which is a plus. I noticed they also do tribute acts. Would recommend and definitely return.

Love this place, all staff are brilliant and great with kids and the food is amazing. Got a local running it now and that’s just what it needs she does an amazing job and really knows her stuff! Will definitely be a regular here and cannot wait to try their Sunday roast it looks lush ❤️

Nice place and atmosphere, in last night and there was music on that was far too loud for the size of the venue, not many people in which I found strange for a Saturday night.....

We ordered a starter and 3 main meals. The starter came with the main meals, Main course taken away and brought back out inedible. Gammon should be pink and not grey shoe leather. .Kids cheese burger bun had top edges hacked off, guess they were burnt. We were not asked at any time if everything was ok because obviously (to everyone) it wasn't). We had originally gone to have sticky toffee pudding, however, when, eventually we were asked if we would like a dessert (they couldn't ignore us any longer) we declined. They couldn't even get the drinks correct, 2 pepsi please, 1 with ice and 1 without ice. Both were served with ice!. No excuse for this, there was only us at 1 table and 1 other table occupied. we spent £52.70, it was £52.00 too much.

Good pub, busy but a nice atmosphere once inside!!

Food is alright, decent portions. Not the cheapest, not a rip off. Limited menu on a Sunday. Manager is rude and unfriendly. We tried to claim a special offer of a free drink advertised on the great British pubs website, to be told by her they aren't doing it. No apologies and quite abrupt about it. We still bought drinks though. Didn't even acknowledge us as we left after our meal and my partner said thank you.The waitresses were friendly though. Wouldn't rush to come back and wouldn't recommend to anyone.

I went in the reiver,my local pub for a gin and tonic yesterday afternoon.i was served by a pleasant young girl,when I received my gin and tonic,it didn't have a slice of lemon in it,so I asked for a slice,she said they didn't have any cut up.i said ,could I have one please,she went and asked,then came back and said I could have a slice in my next one.I said that wasn't good enough,I wanted one with this one.Then another member of staff (Claire) came storming through to tell me they were too busy to cut up a lemon,to which I offered to do it myself.The pub wasn't busy,only my husband and myself at the bar.We went to sit outside with friends.After about 10 minutes a young member of staff came outside with a slice of lemon in her fingers and placed it in my drink.My husband went back to the bar to order another round of drinks, a young girl was serving him,when from behind her "Claire " ,shouts "did she get her lemon,it might stop her twining now".I find this very rude and unprofessional talking about customers behind their backsThis is the first time I have visited the reiver,since it has been under new management,I wasn't impressed.I have been going in this pub for 10 years and never been made to feel like I did.This would never have happened under the old management,no matter how busy they were. I was surprised how quiet it was,maybe other customers have been treated like I have and decided to go elsewhere.It's such a shame,as it used to be a very friendly , very busy pub.

We visited the area again and ate dinner here one night after the new management revamped the menu as we tried it last year and despite the location, the food was great, so gave it another go... The food was fantastic for a pub and still plentiful, with fast and friendly service...Four of us had a really beautifully cooked lamb shank, which fell of the bone and came with mashed potatoes and vegetables... One person had a fish meal and said they enjoyed it... It's a modern style English pub environment with friendly people.... As I said the last time we ate there, understand that it's a pub, with pub noises and real Cumbrian people, so if you're looking for a quaint old pub thats quiet or a fine dining experience go somewhere else, but if you want great English pub food, good value for money from good staff, "The Reiver" will still not disappoint.

Good food at good prices always a specials board the gourmet burger is a gut buster as are the fajitas and a nice selection on the gin shelf.

Fairly rough and unpleasant pub in an unpleasant area.

So dispointed scampi and chips I had not worth the money for the money I paid Cheap scraps of freeze chip's and a few cheap bits of scampi £9 something, rather get a carry out

5 of us came for sunday lunch and we were not disappointed..this is my 3rd visit and wont be my last..had the large sunday roast and was superb could not fault it.goodsize indeed just enough room for a chocolate sticky pudding for afters...

As a local pub you expect families to eat there however trying to eat a meal and hold a conversation while children run round the pub shouting and screaming while their parents appear to be totally unaware is unacceptable. It will take an accident where a child is injured for rules to be implied, so unfortunately although the food is good it's a no to eating there while it replicates a children's play ground

Decent estate pub but it still says it sells cask ales - it certainly does NOT! you'll get the usual suspects although Maltsmiths is at least a decent keg beer.

Fantastic venue for grandsons christening. Nothing too much trouble. The management should be very proud of their pub

We visited the area from Canada, staying with family and ate here twice, which says a lot already... The food was very good and plentiful, with fast, frendly and polite service by the staff....Roasts and burgers were excellent... One person had a vegitarian meal and said they enjoyed it...It's a modern style English pub environment with friendly people.... It's a pub, with pub noises and real Cumbrian people, (we were there during the World Cup), so if you're looking for a quiet, fine dining experience go somewhere else, but if you want great English pub food, good value for money from good staff, "The Reiver" will not disappoint.

Watched the England game here,brilliant friendly atmosphere.Even got free hot dogs at half time.

Visited here with my daughter for a mid week bar meal.Staff were very friendly, food arrived very quickly and was delicious.My daughter ordered sausage and chips and I had cantonese chicken on a bed of rice with prawn crackers- this,dish was amazing very good portion and the very tasty.will def be back !!

This venue was booked by my customer for a charity race night which I was comparing. I was impressed by the friendliness and care provided by the manager and staff. The manager even took the time to help me park, and sort out tables to use. (which is very rare.) The bar was also very busy when i arrived at 6:30pm, which speaks for it self. This venue also has a fabulous atmosphere.

We visited as a family of four,we had 3 fahitas,and 1 beef and ale pie,the food was good,but nothing special.The service from the bar,and the waiting on staff was very good,nice comfortable room.We will come back.

Always busy when i have been in , service is quite good. There are a selection of tv screens to watch any major sport that is on . They have regular entertainment on.

Me and my wife are off work on Friday nights so we’ll occasionally make the 5 minute walk to the Riever, we always have a good meal and drinks are of good quality and well priced.

Brilliant community pub where everyone is welcome. Love it.

Visited for lunch, food arrived in about 15 mins, tasted lovely and decent portions. Very reasonable price and friendly staff :) Only improvement would be more variety on menu? Other than that it was brill, will definitely be back.

Normally the food here is very good so on that basis we decided to try the Sunday dinner. Pricey at £9.95. It looked lovely on the plate but I have to say it was the most tasteless roast beef dinner we've ever had. Yorkshire puds had no flavour at all. The mash was horrible - either from a packet or a block of margarine in it. The roasties were buried under everything so were soggy and tasteless. The beef was at least OK. For the price we expected much much better quality. Plenty on the plate but if it's tasteless it doesn't matter how much is on your plate. I'm at a loss as to how they can get it so wrong when their other food is very good. Maybe it was head chef's day off??! A pub in town does it for £6.95 and is excellent. Won't put us off eating here - we'll just avoid the Sunday dinner!

Called in here for a meal with the wife & daughter. Good selection of drink & food including a specials board. Kids eat free when dining with an adult, which is a nice touch.

Visited with family for dinner and a few drinks. Food is good excellent as is the service and the atmosphere. All the meals had no issues even though very busy Had a DJ playing great songs for most tastes

Excellent food, had the sweet chilli chicken skewers, well presented too. Waited a bit longer than told though, but worth it IMO.

The food was absolutely on point. We all got different things to eat and everything came out together and tasted 1st class. The staff are friendly and helpful. The decor is welcoming and homely. The live music is great for the pub too. Highly recommend

Lovely meal in a relaxed clean setting. Perfect for us with my MIL and the 4 month old twins who enjoyed watching the tv and looking around and listening to the music!! Very attentive staff and good home cooked food

Great meal great service and the mine hosts are very good to get along with , the staff are very courteous and do come a check if your meals are ok would definitely recommend a visit , the parking is limited if the pub is busy which is most weekends and sometimes during the week , it pays to phone and book a table .

The decor was quit nice modern and clean the waiter was cleaning the table which is a good sign. We went in for spot of lunch. I have a steak Buger and my girl friend had a chicken buger and chips and salad with both. To my surprise it actually came out piping hot. One of my pet hates is when something meant to be hot and it comes out cold or just warm. I think the steak burger may have been home made. I don't like salad but I eat it all up because of the dressing it was lovely. The chips where not home made but that is a little thing. I certainly will be going back there. The price was not to back I think 6.50 which you can't complain for decent home cooked food.

Finally got round to trying The Reiver today & we were not disappointed! Not been for years but would highly recommend! Fresh, homemade, delicious food, great service & price! Sticky toffee pudding is incredible, never even thought about a picture of that till it was all gone, would have happily licked the plate! We will be back thank you

The Reiver is now a great pub. We've lived across from it for years but hardly went in as it was pretty dire but now it's transformed. The decor is comfortable and modern and the food is excellent. Friendly staff and of course Mike's disco great fun as always. A little on the pricey side but I don't mind that. Finally a local worth going in!

We have visited The Reiver on many occasions at different times of the day. We were there only yesterday at lunch time. We both had different meals and they were excellent and presented very nicely. You are always made to feel welcome whenever you visit. We have taken our grandchildren as well and they thoroughly enjoy it. Great to have a decent pub with food in our location.

Rather average all day breakfast, it was served in a rather haphazard way which was slightly off putting when it was served. I am sure if they can present the food a little better it will look and taste more appealing. For pub grub it wasn't bad just needs a little tweaking

Since this pub was refurbished we have become regulars here. We eat here at least twice a month and the food is always excellent. The quality of the ingredients is second to none and the staff are extremely well coming.

Booked a table here for 6.30 on a wet, dark and miserable evening. Once inside, our mood completely lifted. We were met by such warm, friendly and polite staff. The décor so clean and bright with perfect ambient lighting. We were shown to our table by the friendly waitress, a one by the window and studied the menu, it wasn,t difficult for me to decide, Steak ! Flat iron steak to be precise, medium. When it arrived it was accompanied by the most beautiful hand cut chips, along with onion rings ,peas, tomatoes etc. Back to the steak, awesome , it was cooked to perfection, medium,exactly like I said. My wife had Lasagne, came in a nice big dish. She thought she was in Italy, it was so good. We had a couple of drinks each, my wife enjoyed the chardonnay, and I had two pints of refreshing Amstel, cold and crisp, carefully poured with the perfect head. If only it wasn,t mid week, we could have happily stayed for a few more , and no pressure on us to leave our table. We will be returning shortly, Sunday roast I think.

Was a very drab uninviting place until the refurbishment. Open plan with large central bar and lots of seating area inside and out. Atmosphere good and food is good pub grub
