Coconut T in Carlisle

Stopped coming here years ago, but decided to give it another go yesterday. Sadly, my partner is now dealing with food poisoning. Would not recommended.

Freshly cooked Thai food, quality ingredients, friendly service and super tasty. Been coming here for 8 years if not more and it's too damn cheap! For all those who have no patience, it's not fast food and isn't meant to be, if you want rubbish get to Gregg's or McDonald's, or have a bit of patience and wait. Small kitchen and 20 covers and 1 cook!

It is the great Thai restaurant it is in the market hall I go to eat when I go shopping and I think the price of the food is very very cheap pain in a proper big restaurant and they cook great food I do enjoy myself when I go there it’s not very often maybe once a month I haven’t been for awhile now not been very well with a great Women who make the food they’re friendly, get a good talk with them that’s what is all about

Waiting time over 1 hour. People getting money back waiting too long

Typical basic market cafe, a bit rough around the edges but the food is first class. Have become addicted to travelling here from Newcastle just for this food

The chicken padthai was one of the best tasting dishes I've ever had and for only £5

Amazing food at this Thai cafe. Staff very friendly and helpful. We travel an hour most Saturdays to visit here. Never been disappointed with any food we have been served. Well worth a visit 👍

Decent food, quantity is decent if ask for added extra chicken. I had chicken massaman. - says there’s nuts in it. But none added on. Wouldn’t be in a rush to go back. Waiting time let it down

This little gem serves freshly cooked meals, so a little wait is expected, definitely worth waiting for my meal was excellent. I will be eating here again once in Carlisle again.

This is a basic cafeteria style eating place, but importantly the food is delicious. The stuff and Services is friendly and efficient. Take away meals are also available if required. There is a large variety of different Thai meals, and all are very competitively priced. It has grown in popularity over the years and has expanded its number of tables. Whilst the facilities are basic being in the center of the market, it lacks the ambience of a more market restaurant, of course but it is clean and popular with people who want a quick, but nevertheless, tasty ,spicy Thai meal at an affordable price. It is most busy over the lunchtime hours and is ready to close by about a5pm. Non alcoholic drinks are also available.

Long wait for food (40 mins) with no warning or explanation, so don’t come if you’re in a hurry. I had a delicious red Thai, freshly cooked food and great value.

What a find !! Great food , cheap as chips ! Starter , 2 main courses and 2 soft drinks for £17 ! Substantial servings and very tasty . Will certainly be visiting again.

If you are willing to wait at leat 20 mins, this place is for you. The food is delicious, big portion, test is not really like proper thai food in expensive restaurant but only £6 including main and rice, you won't find anywhere else 🙂

I was in the area with my parents and son and stumbled across this when exploring the market. There was a long wait for the food, but well worth it. Absolutely fantastic! I ordered the Jungle curry but would order the soup my dad had next time. We came up from South Staffordshire and this is on par with our local Thai restaurant in Lichfield, but much cheaper!

We went at 4.30 last night, asked if there was time to eat in. They said yes so we ordered food & drinks. The food took between 20-25 mins to cook so we had no time left to eat. We asked for takeaway boxes which they seemed annoyed at. They were quite rude. We asked for takeaway cutlery to which they just replied no. The food wasn't good. I ordered a massaman curry which was nothing like one. The soup was extremely salty. The beef jungle curry was the only decent dish. We weren't given our green teas, despite paying for them. The prices are cheap but the quality is poor and the service terrible.

Rude Service. Wouldn't even provide spoons for take away.

When the food arrived after waiting 45 minutes was really ok but the waiting time was really bad as it wasn't busy at all but noticed that the take away service came priority over the people who was actually in the cafe

First time ate here won't be the last. I had Thai spring rolls for starter followed by a delicious red Thai curry with rice. The curry cost £6 with rice, I've paid treble this in posh restaurants for a inferior dish, it really was lover and nicely presented. Don't be put off by this little gem being in a market it's definitely restaurant quality food at less than takeaway prices.

Havent even got our food yet but ive already noticed some things.We've been waiting for around 40 minutes now and still no sign of our food even being made.Multiple people have arrived since we sat down and they've all been served except us?? We only orderd 2 portions of chicken friend rice.another lady was complaining about chicken still being frozen.dont plan on coming again.Much preferd the Kebab shop.

Lovely Thai food ,freshly cooked, you may have to wait a bit, very reasonable prices £5/6 a meal. Do take away 10 out of 10

Appalling service. Waited 50 minutes for a pad thai while they did takeout instead even though I kept asking. Only 1 other person there & it was mid afternoon, so no rush on. Eventually had to leave - money down the drain.

There are times you can wait yes, but where else do you get a fresh made flavoursome and nourishing meal for five pound? If you want instant tat go to the golden arch place around the corner and pay more for less.

Worst pad thai ever. 1£ extra for takeaway container. They don’t know how to cook Pad Thai. No tamarind, no peanuts, no fish sauce. AVOID!!!!!

Very tasty food for bargain price, all main are £5 including rice you won't get better deal than this place, you may have to wait a bit because it's very busy and popular cafe

TERRIBLE, waited over 1 hour for my food. When it arrived it was very average and not at all like real thai food. There was one table stacked high with dirty dishes from all the other tables, tables weren’t cleaned and had food on them. Probably the worst thai restaurant/cafe I have ever been to and ive been to lots. My review; AVOID.

El sabor de la comida es muy bueno, se nota que trabajan con mercadería fresca. Mañana me voy de Carlisle y no podré volver, pero sin dudas lo haría. Hay que tener paciencia porque demora bastante pero vale la pena. Comimos dos platos por £10 y son realmente abundantes

Real Thai food in Carlisle, lovely. Great for a lunchtime bite.

By far the best Thai food in Carlisle, if not best overall in Carlisle. Lovely service, can get extremely busy at times but always worth the wait.

The food is nothing like Thai, not good at all. That is not the worst part, service was horribly terrible. Waited for more than 40mins but the table next to us was served within 5 mins of their arrival and they came 35 mins after us. As of writing this review, we are still waiting and 50mins have passed still waiting , totally unacceptable, don’t recommend at all. Avoid if you are not dying of hunger

Stunning flavours, generous portions and great prices. Very glad we stopped here today as the food always looks so wonderful when we pass by. Only downside is the lengthy wait. We were only patrons in the restaurant yet they prioritised a large pre-ordered take away and didn't tell us!

Been here literally 100's of times for the past 5+ years. It's a Monday tradition. Excellent Thai food made from scratch while you wait. Far too cheap for the quality and effort that's put in.

Over a hour to get two stir fry dishes! There did not seem to be any system or organisation to getting the food out. I had more or less finished my dish but my partner was still waiting. Maybe they need to invest in an extra wok! Prices are low, on the plus side.

They just don't care about their costumers! I have been there a lot of Times but everytime i wait for 45 minutes at least...well today it was the last time!! Very bad!!!!

Our food was excellent when it finally arrived. Had we been warned that it would take an hour we would have eaten elsewhere. Sat watching people get dish after dish as we were starving and drooling! Even people who came in and ordered a take out (not pre-ordered) were served before us.

Beautiful food!!! Really authentic and so cheap - we have been twice now and tried the jungle, massaman and Penang curries. Really fresh with beautiful fresh veg and chicken, can’t wait to work our way through the menu! Such friendly ladies as well 💗

We were really impressed, in market hall this looks like the kind of place you would walk past but we did not want the traditional bacon, egg sandwiches so we tried The Coconut tree Simply food but really well done, even the chicken in fried rice was amazing and some of the best spring rolls I have had for a long time Free water but that's about it for drinks but if you don't want just another sandwich then give this place a go

What’s not to love. A simple straightforward menu of all your favourite Thai curries and stir fries. Curries served with rice and the same price. Yes you have to wait but the portions are hearty and made a perfect lunch.

How what is essentially a street food outlet cannot serve a stir-fry meal in 90 minutes is beyond me. We had to give up and get our money back.

Unacceptably slow. After 90 minutes of waiting, we asked what had happened to our meal. They were just starting to cook it, so we got our money back. This is essentially quick street food with few covers - so I have no idea why they cannot turn out quick food. We were on a four hour visit to Carlisle, in need of a quick bite. What a waste of time.

If you have a day off and want to try a very good Thai food the Coconut Tree is the place to go. In the market place in the centre of town you can find this charming little stand with excellent food. Waiting time around 30/40 minutes so go over when you have time, food is excellent even better than a proper restaurant and we only spent £25 for four people with drinks included. Green Thai curry creamy and delicious, spicy just on point. I recommend this place 100%, will be back to have another bite here for sure!

40 minutes’ wait time on top of order time with takeaways having priority over waiting customers. Pad Thai not even close to street hawkers in Thailand and beef salad just had diluted sriracha sauce. Waste of time.

Inviting little Thai kitchen in the Market Place for takeaway or eating in with an appetising menu. The wait for food was nearly 40 minutes, which I find unacceptable for a fast food outlet with moderate business. The food was disappointing, nothing like genuine Thai.

The food is good and the prices are okay...but the last time I waited for too long,the food was not arriving and nobody was explaining me anything.

forever will adore this little place! I used to come here regularly after school with my boyfriend before lockdown and we recently got the chance to go again and it’s amazing as always! we usually prefer spicier meals, but the green curry here will always be our favourite, we’ve tried every meal on the menu at this point but this stands out the most. the staff are so nice and it’s always a pleasure to have a sit down and eat there. cheap prices with big portions (my boyfriend and i always share one dish and walk out full) and quality food!

Very average food, not really Thai,microwaved rice, cheap but get what you pay for I suppose.

Our son wanted to eat here. We are so glad we did as we weren’t disappointed with the quality of the food & the cleanliness of the place. The market hall is now mainly food places which We have never tried when we lived there. Will definitely visit again on future visits. If you haven’t tried this place yet then do so. Fantastic food.

Called in here on friday for lunch as been wanting to try for a while. It is a small no frills cafe in Carlisle's indoor market, but by god the food is amazing. Both my friend and I had beef stir fry in chilli paste. Plates came out piping hot and were freshly made. 2 ladies that were working were very pleasant too. All the meals (except thai salad) are priced at £5.....incredible value for money. Cant wait to return and try another dish

Had lunch with colleagues and although the venue is small the food was delightful, if you are in the area I would recommend you try this place for lunch

Just had some really nice food here when visiting with my family. Curries are less spicy then some Thai restaurants, but you can ask for them to be more spicy when you order.

We love it. Here is the best Thai restaurant in Carlisle same I eaten this Meau in Thailand. If you think Thai food can come here!

We went here for lunch while walking around the market. Very disappointing. The yellow curry lacked flavour and was more like vegetables in a bland coconut soup. The pad thai was so oily we couldn't eat it. Perhaps the least authentic pad thai I have ever had. Perhaps for five pounds one shouldn't expect too much.

When I’m in Carlisle me and my wife we always stop here for eating the true Thai food.. service excellent, good price, and the food is amazing...

We used to eat at this place every week until it management changed. Since then the food although tasty, is swimming in oil. We ate here today and we had to separate the sauce from the ridiculous amount of oil. The lady who now runs the place always looks miserable and uninterested. Please sort out these issues as it may cost you more customers other than us!

We are regulars at this superb little Thai cafe hidden away in the Carlisle covered market. We visited Saturday 22nd June and the food was once again delicious, all the food is made fresh in front of you and is served in good portions. My panang curry was amazing, the girls had pad Thai and chicken fried rice and I didn't hear any complaints. The only thing that let's it down is that meals come out at different times but that's what you get when it's cooked fresh. Definitely will be going back.

This is a hidden gem, and surely the best Thai food in all of Cumbria !It's an authentic Asian lunchtime cafe, with basic decor and outstanding food. I've never had a bad plate of food here, and you just order something tasty and 5 minutes later an amazing plate of food arrives. Everything on the menu - £5.Seriously, this is as good Thai food as I've ever eaten in any restaurant.

Come here all the time and it’s fantastic. It’s not flash, remember it’s an indoor market but the food is of a 5 star restaurant

It’s not a fancy place at all. But the food is homemade and made in front of you. It’s simple, fresh and always very tasty. We always visit if they’re open.

Regular to this excellent little gem of a place. All meals are cooked fresh to order and absolutely fantastic every time. Pa Nag Curry is unbelievable.

Had the great pleasure of stumbling across this wonderful establishment within the market whilst holidaying in the area. Wonderful spot to take the weight off the feet after walking around the town centre and the shops. Fantastic aromatic and tasty food, freshly cooked with fresh ingredients as you wait, plenty on your plate for the money too, so great value for money, we know where to go now when in the area again.

Popped in for lunch after seeing the magnificent Flying Scotsman at Carlisle. The service was brilliant, food totally amazing, and importantly it was pipping hot, not to mention plentiful. I had the Chicken Red Thai Curry and rice and Scott had the Chicken Massaman and rice. Food was delicious and Scott had to finish my meal off for me. The two ladies cooking and serving were friendly and had a lovely manner. Would I go back and would I recommend - the answer to that is yes and yes.

Saw this small Thai Restaurant whilst walking through the market, we both like Thai food and decided to have lunch there. Good decision, staff friendly and food gorgeous abd plenty of it. We will most certainly be back.

Me and my wife visit here for lunch every Thursday, beautiful flavourful Thai food. Very cheap option for lunch £13 for two mains and starter to share. All cooked fresh to order while you watch. Defo recommend a visit to this hidden little gem to anyone who appreciates good food.

Excellent value for freshly prepared tasty Thai food situated in Carlisle Market. Recommend excellent chicken cashew nut and tom yam.

Popped in early and the lady was out and about shopping for the produce for that day. No matter that it is small and in the Carlisle Market, plenty of time for people watching and listening to customers arriving who were giving EXACT specifications of how they wanted their meals cooked. I had prawn pad thai and my wife had creamy coconut flavoured prawn with yellow curry, sorry l have forgotten the name. Both were delicious and honest food at its best, l can say no more? We will be back whenever we visit Carlisle.

Went today for lunch. Entered and only us and another couple in who had already ordered. We Ordered & sat for 20mins before he came over and said he didn't have what we wanted. What took him 20mins?? Walked out

A small cosy place with 5-6 tables. Chefs are Thai people, so they cook an authentic taste of Thai food. I ordered a special menu, Pla Goong( Prawn with spicy Thai style sauce) since I really missed Thai food lol. I would recommend to people that would want to try real Thai food!

Me and my partner have been visiting the Coconut Tree for years now, the food here is the best Thai food I have ever tasted, the flavours of the food are amazing, Jungle Curry is our favourite to get. Top quality food always cooked fresh in front of you and is always ready in no time! Food is very reasonable, Staff are friendly and kind, I haven't a bad word to say about this place :-)

Have used this place now for many years and quite often visit here when I'm in Carlisle I have taken family and friends here and never had any complaints.

He comido aquí, normalmente caen en las compras, y la calidad de los ingredientes frescos es maravilloso. Como digo, el único pequeño inconveniente es que la zona de asientos es mínimo, pero eso es porque tienen que trabajar dentro de los confines de una de las pequeñas unidades dentro del mercado.

Aquí se sirve la comida tailandesa es delicioso. Auténtico, fresco y realmente a un precio razonable! Iv'e tenía el Penang y las Massaman y ambos han sido increíbles! Voy a volver y probar el pad thai la próxima vez! Vale la pena visitar si estás en la ciudad.

We have visited here a couple of times now and love the food but we visited today and had to wait over 30mins for 2 meals. More annoying was the fact one meal arrived (pad Thai) and was nearly finished before the 2nd meal arrived (chilli stir fry) there was only 1 other table ahead of us so not sure why we waited so long or why food came separately

Fresca, picante y fragante y servido con una porción de arroz poco para absorber la bondad. Es cocinado así que hay poco tiempo de espera si el lugar está lleno (10+), pero bueno, vale la pena! Una joya escondida. Altamente recomendado.

There are only 2 places in Carlisle that we always return to and this is one of them- when the market is open though!The team of two Thai ladies cook authentic quick cafe style food fresh. Prices are very reasonable and food is tasty. You can even order to your desired heat preference!They welcome back their regulars and have big smiles on their faces.

We often eat here whilst shopping in Carlisle! Love that the kitchen is open, nothing to hide. Never had a bad meal and it is very good value for money!

Only about a dozen or so items on the menu (meat varients of most). I've now eaten everything on the menu at least once, and never had anything that didn't taste great.The Gaeng Pa, is wonderfully hot and spicy, the Pineapple curry mild and slightly sweet, and everything between tastes really nice too.A small seating area, for 10-12 at tables plus 3 stools at the bar...usually full, or very busy from 12-1.30 most days.Good prices and a free glass of water.I eat here usually once every couple of weeks, and will continue to for as long as I can.

We go to Carlisle races reasonably frequently and an added bonus is that we can tie it in with a visit to the coconut tree. This is an authentic little Thai cafe set in the market Hall and for us it is a must visit.Thai is easily our favourite cuisine and this place does it very well. There are about 12 or so dishes that are cooked to order and everyone we have had there has been very good indeed. We like things very spicy and they are happy to oblige. They even bring fresh Birds Eye chilies so we can spice it up even more if we like.Both the pad Thai and Jungle Curry were delicious and great value at around 5 pounds each. The service is friendly and we would not consider going for lunch anywhere else.

My wife & I eat here every time we are in Carlisle & have done for some years now. The food is freshly prepared & of an excellent quality & very reasonably priced.

i will make this my very first stop to eat the food is great but the staff are out of this world the are so friendly, the nicest peoble i have ever met and attentive.

Probably wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't for my friend, but it is the best find in Carlisle for food. If you're not looking for anything fancy, but great food this is the place. My boyfriend and I travelled an hour and a half to come for lunch because it's so good. Would recommend the Pad Thai, the satay skewers, or tomatoey soup (thing it's called tom tom soup or something).I'm a bit of a wimp for heat, but they always make it to the heat that I like no bother. Can't recommend enough.
