Not had Sunday lunch at the Reindeer for a while due to a busy summer. Booked today watched Forest first great atmosphere. The place was busy and full of atmosphere great to see, then ate one of the best Sunday lunches I eaten out in a very long well done the reindeer team. Food was faultless service was friendly and efficient. Get yourself booked highly recommended.

Visited for Sunday lunch. First of all the food was very good. We ordered roast beef and a roast pork belly. Both well cooked and with all the trimmings. The only complaint and it is a general one, is that the place was very busy, we were crammed in and felt that the tables were too close together. I think that the pub has become a victim of its own success.

Read a review praising The Reindeer @ Hoveringham so decided to give it a go. The staff were polite and friendly, the food we tried was up to its reputation. We only ordered starters and a side of fries but what lovely starters they were. Creamy buratta salad with heritage 🍅 and pesto V Korean fried cauliflower with 🌶 and sweet sauce. Both were perfect. Will definitely return

Set back from the roadside, hidden away, like many gems. A beautifully decorated interior is inviting for a cold-day catch-up but head out back and you have a sun-soaked terrace looking straight onto the local cricket ground! Seems the groundsman had a few at the Reindeer before painting the boundary line too….Enjoy!

Had two meals here whilst staying in the village. The Friday night fish menu (with puds from the a la carte) was very good and then we went back on the Saturday afternoon. Sat outside watching the cricket with drinks and small plates, which were all excellent. Very reasonably priced on both occasions for the quality, including the wine in these days where paying £10+ for a glass of wine is becoming commonplace, but not at The Reindeer. 🙂 Very good service on both occasions.

It's in the Michelin Guide (Bib Gourmand). That remains unusual for a UK pub. The food is the main offer though you could have a drink at the bar if you wanted. It's a modern room, with a lovely view of the cricket pitch. The terrace would be very nice on a sunny day. Quite a short menu (a good sign) of pub classics; we had a burger and a chicken caesar salad. Both were well cooked and presented. Good service and prices that are reasonable for this quality just now. Our reference point is the Martins Arms and we think The Reindeer is as good.

Very disappointed. Thought we'd try out the Reindeer having seen the good reviews. Big mistake. Opened the door to a wall of sound and no sign of anyone serving. Should have left straight away as it was clear they didn't have enough staff on duty. Certainly not somewhere to go for an intimate evening. My ears are still ringing. Menu OK but not inspiring. Flowery description of burger and chips, Fish and chips, pasta... Ordered a G&T to drink while waiting for our food. Food arrived very quickly despite the busy restaurant - but no sign of G&T so cancelled these and asked for a bottle of wine. That was plonked unceremoniously on the table, unopened. Starters OK. Main course - Slow cooked shin of beef Ragu was very good. A glimmer of what could be? Burger overcooked and overwhelmed by the sauce. Odd how we felt rushed by the speed the food arrived from the kitchen when the two girls trying to look after the tables were obviously overwhelmed. Decided against desert - still uninspired by the choice... Cheese, sticky toffee pudding, creme brulé so asked for the bill We'd been billed for the non existent G&Ts + 10% service. Give the staff their due there was no quibble when I asked for both to be removed. Won't be rushing back.

Lovely food but over priced and chucked of our table before we had finished our meal. Table of 8 which meant service was slow which is acceptable but we were asked to leave our table before we had finished as it was booked out again. No time for coffee. Allowed only 1 hour 50 minutes . We would not have booked here knowing this. Our bill was nearly £400 and I feel this is money grabbing from the restaurant chain we weren’t even offered an alternative place to sit, so my catch up with family was brought to a close prematurely . Won’t visit again

A menu with no surprises and all the better for it on a nasty February day. High quality comfort food. Food for inner you, not Instagram. Dishes in which a decent portion of the main ingredient is unmistakably the hero - not just a bit player on an artfully arranged plate. Still pretty standard in rural France it’s an ethos in short supply in these parts. Only the fish course was a bit disappointing. The excellent sauce deserved cod loin rather than a thin fillet. Venison pie a definitive example. Only serious gripe.. when there are unoccupied tables for four throughout the service why squeeze three large blokes around the smallest in the room?

We were looking forward to going to the Reindeer at Hoveringham. The reviews looked great and it’s local to where we live. We were met by the front of house when we walked in. I don’t know if he was having a bad day but his manner was slightly abrupt/rude. He pointed us to a table in the corner of one of the rooms and left us to it! Fortunately the service massively improved from there on with a waitress that was very pleasant. We both had the mussels for staters, which was excellent and possibly the best sauce I’ve had. Then for the main I had the slow roasted belly pork which was nice though id have preferred it crisp on the sides, though that’s my personal choice and I should have asked for that, and my wife had the Venison pie which again was tasty. As with some restaurants you never know how large the mains are, so I ordered some Green Vegetables as well. My recommendation is don’t bother, the mains are large enough portions as they are. The side of greens was £5 for a saucer sized portion of watery kale and cabbage. Great starter, reasonable main and ok value for money.

A last minute decision to book a table for lunch on a Monday (when many other local restaurants are closed) turned out really well. An interesting but relatively short menu offered more than enough options from which to choose - at sensible prices too. We shared a starter and had the venison pie and belly pork as main courses. Both were beautifully cooked, well sauced and the accompanying vegetables were more than sufficient for us. A gin & tonic and a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor made a change from having a glass of wine each. The pub was nicely ‘buzzy’ with most tables occupied and lovely views on a sunny day over the local cricket field. What’s not to like. We will return to this well run, “village owned” pub.

The Reindeer offered a great environment that was welcome on a February day to the four of us. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful - restaurant area spacious and comfortable. Menu was detailed and interesting and staff obliged when I wanted no mash and more spring veg. When food arrived it looked scrummy and tasted even better, plates were hot which seems to be a rarity these days. Veggie people in our party commented food was very tasty and og high quality. We would thoroughly recomend The Raindeer and will be returning soon

Lunch The Reindeer at Hoveringham Nottinghamshire. It is located in Hoveringham village, near Southwell. They have an offer during the week where you can choose two mains for £15. You can upgrade this to include a half bottle of house wine for £19.95. Which we did, obviously. Mains ordered were Slow Roasted Pork Belly (normal price,£17) Honey Glazed Parsnip, roast potatoes, buttered greens & cider sauce. Battered Line Caught Haddock (normal price,£18) Skinny Fries, Mushy Peas, Tartar Sauce. This is extremely good value if that's all you have. We added a couple of starters Braised Pigs Cheek Croquettes £9 Beetroot Gel & Celeriac Remoulade. Whipped Chicken Liver Pate £9 Toasted Milk Bread, Fruit Chutney & Pub Pickles. The food was cooked fresh to order, delicious, and well executed. Although if you just want a snack, they do have some delicious sandwiches such as Battered Fish Finger Sandwich £10,all served with a mini kitchen soup of the day.

I was extremely disappointed today after reserving a table for Christmas lunch today 1st December only then to be told on arrival that it did not commence until Monday 3rd December. When I booked I specifically asked twice that it was definitely the Christmas menu and even asked the lady to check with the chef. Having had this confirmed, I booked for my friend and I who traditionally meet at this time of year. Although the food generally is tasty I do find it rather snacky instead of substantial meals. I was looking forward to the smoked salmon and the roast beef (even though traditional turkey would have been better). All in all very disappointing. As a customer I cannot do anything more to ensure that I know what to expect when I dine at the restaurant. However it would appear the staff don't know what's going on or someone decided to amend the menu without informing customers.

Whilst on the slightly more expensive side of a Sunday lunch, once the food arrived you could see why. We had starters and mains and they were exceptional. I had the whipped feta to start and the lamb roast for main. I have an allergy to raw and cooked red wine which was in all the gravy so the chef made me a version with no red wine which was most appreciated. The homemade mint sauce was out of this world and the pugs in blankets were delicious. A really great roast and atmosphere.

Stopped here for lunch after a long walk. Dog was allowed in with us, so a good start. Service was warm and friendly. Ordered off the Sunday Lunch, limited options spoilt by one item not being available, but still enough for us. Wife had roast beef and I had chicken. Food well presented and delish, but only quibble was the amount of the side veg, enough for one not two, hence score of 4 which is actually more 4.7/5.Lovely pub, great staff and good food, highly recommended.

I've eaten here twice in the last couple of weeks, today for Sunday lunch with my husband and for lunch just after New Year with a friend. Staff are very friendly and allow dogs. Preferred the lunchtime menu where I had fish finger sandwich, today's roast was delicious but skimpy on the vegetables. Good value and delicious wine.I'll be back next time I do the Hoveringham walk.

Perfect for families with children of all ages; our daughter loved the mac and cheese! I can't wait to introduce other members of my family to this wonderful place and look forward to sampling more of your fresh and tasty menu! We would highly recommend the Sunday lunch!

Our food was delicious, freshly cooked, our plates went back to the kitchen very clean. I can definitely recommend the braised blade of beef with horseradish mash.Thank you.

4 of us visited for Sunday dinner. We all had different mains including 2 vegetarian options (1 of which was made specially as we had booked earlier in the week and let them know we had vegetarians with us). All the food was excellent as was the service. Good to see the place open again. Would highly recommend.

I'm a local so was delighted to hear great things about the new chef and menu at the Reindeer. The menu included traditional pub grub ( fish and chips, pie etc) and gastro dishes ( pork belly, hake) all at reasonable prices but the chef has gone the extra mile. The food was sublime - the blade of beef melted in your mouth and the veg ( red cabbage horseradish mash and broccoli stems) were cooked to perfection. So proud to have the Reindeer as our local.

We have visited The Reindeer a few times since the re-opening and have not been disappointed. It is charming, welcoming and the views over the cricket field and countryside are beautiful. There is a great selection of cask ales and interesting wine list, great for an evening or day out with friends. We have really enjoyed a lunch and two evening meals here; the service we received each time was excellent and their freshly produced, locally sourced food is delicious! We have already booked a pre-Christmas dinner with the family. Definitely on our list of favourites!

The Reindeer is well worth a visit if you enjoy traditional food cooked beautifully at reasonable prices. The dining area is small and intimate, and not crowded such that you gain the tail end of other groups conversations. The Steak & Ale pie was superb, the sauce/gravy as good as you'll taste, the baked cod special was delicious too. Minor point but we would have preferred the vegetables a ltlle more well done but will ask next time.

Food was OK, all plates cleared up. Service was very good, we asked for some extra gravey no troubles. We came as 2 families so they kept the bills separate but have us the discount as a table thanks. Darcie was great and ensured we had a nice time

Not sure what the previous reviews are all about, I appreciate everyone have their own opinions but to slate the venue is truly unexplainable. I took my son for a catch up Sunday dinner and we were both really impressed. We were given a lovely table and was looked after very professionally. The food was absolutely stunning. The flavours, the combination and fusion twist to ingredients was outstanding. Worth every penny! Thank you Violet and the other front of house members for giving us a nice afternoon. Big thanks to the kitchen team for a fantastic meal.
