Took 15 minutes to reach the front of the queue of 5 people, not enough staff on duty. Staff advised against purchasing a mince pie @ £1.50 each as they thought they were too expensive. The cakes looked nice but at £4.50 per slice were too expensive too.

What a disappointment. Christmas week visit with family. We had pre-booked a table in the ‘restaurant’ but when we arrived they had no idea what we were talking about. The ‘restaurant’ was much less nice than the coffee shop and more basic than a low-budget cafe. The staff seemed to spend more time talking to each other than checking in customers. The website suggested carvery, fish and chips and specials. None of these appeared to be available and the standard menu was very basic and uninspiring. Our food arrived and was not pleasant. No one came to check so there was no one to tell. Chips were solid, coleslaw tasteless, Italian chicken was definitely not. Really disappointing and definitely below par.

We visited on an early Sunday afternoon at the end of November. There is a small serving area, at least for cake and coffee, the sunday lunches I think are done on the lower level of the restaurant, which does have split levels. Our scones were without doubt the nicest I have had in ages - they looked nice and tasted nice - truly lovely but they were very expensive - not far short of £4. A very small portion of cheese cake was also around £4 and imho that is very, very pricey. Decent latte coffee and plenty of tables in the two sections as well as a few tables in a small conservatory between them. Toilets ok and there is a disabled one near the conservatory tables.

So my elderly Mum calls at the Crowders Garden Centre with two friends looking for sit down meal and a good portion of fish and chips. After one hour wait, to which my Mum said 'have they been out to catch it?' their fish and chips were served. However, eat it? Not a chance, the fish was as hard as rock. Couldn't get a knife into it never mind eat it. Appalling and they wished they'd gone to chippy in nearby Horncastle. They spoke to lady in charge who offered a 'cake' in place of the rubbish. But not being able to eat sweet things, rejected. Eventually the lady took the price of one meal off of their three servings. They paid and left but will never return. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Go to the chippy!!!

I visited this cafe with friends on Friday 20 August - the second time we've been in the last couple of months. Two of us ordered baked potatoes and once again they weren't available! This happened last time too - when I queried it, I was told that they can't always judge the number of potatoes that they'll need. This seems ridiculous - why put them on the menu if they're often not available? The cafe isn't far from Horncastle - surely someone could pop into town to buy some more potatoes. After all, they will keep for a while. How do other cafes manage? I think that the management at Redwood need to get their act together! We're going to give it one more try but if the full menu isn't available again, we're going to try somewhere else.

Very disappointing that business are treating customers in this way it is surely a short term strategy if they are to survive!

Wow Wee — Afternoon Tea was absolutely fabulous! The choices were superb, well presented and very tasty and wholesome. The sandwiches and cakes were heaven and such a super combination and very spoilt for choice! We opted for tea and coffee, which again was really super and tasty. The service was super and such a warm and bubbly waitress. My only criticism was that it felt rushed as we were asked to pay halfway through eating, as the restaurant manager was wanting to cash up the till. It felt as if we should eat and drink up and get out, once we were asked to pay! We opted to eat outside, which was super and definitely would go again for another Afternoon Tea. Cost was on par with hotels/other places and definitely 5* rating.

This has to be one of my wife and myself,s worst experiences of a British Garden Centres restaurant. Arrived 12:15 on 25/8/2020, tried to order off of specials board but by 12:30 three items already off of board, ordered off main menu which eventually came at 13:15 and was dumped unceremoniously in front of us by the waitress. We both ordered gammon which was overcooked and full of fat. My wife needed to use the toilets after the meal and she was disgusted by the state of the ladies, four empty toilet roll holders left on the floor for example.

Having dropped my car off to the local Franchised Dealership early this morning my wife and I decided to seek out a place for breakfast. We went to the Horncastle Garden Centre we had past on our route into the town. Inside we found this restaurant. It opened at 9am and I think we were the first customers of the day. Keeping in mind we are currently in the middle of the Pandemic they were very well organised. Sanitiser table just inside the door with clear instructions of how to order your drinks and or food. It was good to see an area for customers with dogs which was separate from the main room but well laid out. The whole area was clean and tidy. We both ordered a breakfast which was reasonably priced and came with drinks. It was delivered to our table by a waitress in full PPE and she was extremely polite has was the one who took the order. The food was excellent and plenty of it. By the time we had finished our meal the restaurant was filling up with customers but our empty plates did not go unnoticed and were cleared away very quickly. All in all, excellent and friendly service, clean and well maintained restaurant, top quality food, reasonable prices and of course dog friendly. Will definitely be going back even though it's 45 minutes from our home.

We used to visit here a few years ago and it was always good service and food. We visited about 3 months ago and it was terrible. 1 person serving at the till and also making the drinks, which takes so much time. Others appeared to be standing around with no initiative to even try and help. Our food took 50 mins to arrive. When it arrived it was so so. This place has got dirty too. Needs a good clean and a lick of paint. We decided to leave it a while before we returned as we know how good Chapel Garden Centre is now it has been taken over. Really good food and great service. We visited again today 3/08/19 to see if it had improved. Oh dear. Once again 1 person serving at the till and again making the drinks. We ordered our food at 11.58am and it arrived at 12.30pm. Get this, at 12.13pm the lady behind the till was telling the now long queues of people that the waiting time for food was 1/2 an hour. Ridiculous. There was one poor guy who came in and demanded a refund as his and his families food was not good. As we sat eating our so so food, the queues got bigger. There seemed total chaos behind the counter again. I could go on. Basically we will not eat here again for a long time, or until we know British Garden Centres have got this place sorted out. Too many tables, restaurant too large to cope with demand currently. The queuing area is awful. People blocking the entrance with only 1 till in operation. We did speak with a staff member who asked if our food was ok. We explained our experience to her and we were given 2 loyalty cards as a gesture. It’s not her fault and we felt sorry for her. Please sort this place out as soon as possible because you are taking peoples hard earned cash off them and it’s just not right. The garden centre is really great now and a massive effort has been made with money well spent. Please now spend some money and time on your restaurant otherwise people will start to look elsewhere. Chapel and Brigg have it sorted. Sort this one please. Well done on the work done on the rest of the Centre.

We popped in for a cuppa and were shocked almost immediately. A large sign pointed to the cafe entrance, so we walked through the conveniently open double doors... to the toilets!! We eventually found the real entrance and were greeted with a maze of seating areas, mostly down one or two short flights of stairs. We had already found a lack of available disabled parking spaces, and these were further away from the cafe and garden centre than many standard spaces, so stairs were not welcome. Only one person was serving, but the customer in front of us, was ordering quite a lot of specialist drinks and took what seemed a long time. Once we were served we descended the stairs to find three tables awaited clearing, leaving a choice of two others that were not occupied. After finishing our tea and quite delicious cheesecake those three tables still hadn't been cleared, even though at least two kitchen staff had been into the area whist we were there.

Simply ordered two hot chocolates for myself and my wife. Unfortunately, hot chocolate may have been in the title but was not in the mug. While the taste was very pleasant the content was lukewarm which detracted from the experience. Complete waste of £5.60 for the two and therefore will not be returning. It is such a shame as this place used to be a nice place to eat. We ate here today and the service was ridiculously slow, at least 20 minutes in the queue for the checkout! You know when you go somewhere then think we'll leave it a bit, hoping that things have picked up and give it another try? Well they haven't. Since this establishment has come under the Wyevale umbrella we feel it has gradually gone downhill. As other reviewers have mentioned and have to agree the menu is somewhat limited. You can see through the serving hatch the 'chef' placing food on plates with bare hands (at least in Subway they use disposable polythene gloves). The staff on duty today didn't appear very happy and welcoming, maybe it could be due to staffing shortages ( as there were two vacancies advertised, same as on our last visit!) Obviously this establishment has difficulty with recruitment and retention of staff which in my book speaks volumes! On a positive note the food was of acceptable quality...I'm just hoping that the chef had washed his hands!

Like a couple more people have said, the place needs a good clean. Windowsills are filthy, floor dirty, dirty menus, plug in heaters randomly placed around the coffee shop, toilets not great either. 12.15 on a Sunday and only five other people in. Think this tells you what you need to know. What has happened to this place? It used to be so good before Wyevale took it over. Staff look so fed up and miserable which is probably why you are greeted with an advert for staff wanted in there every time you go. Someone from Wyevale needs to read these reviews and get their fingers out!

this restaurant/cafe is now owned by Wyevale who have acquired what was Crowder's Garden Centre. A few years ago the Redwood was added as a "fine dining" establishment, and you had to go through the cafe to get to it. We did try it and weren't impressed. That's old news now, because in fact the whole area is really a cafe, not a restaurant. You have to queue up ( sometimes for 15 minutes) to place your order, collect your tea or coffee on a tray, and maneuver up or down steps, carrying your bag and a tray of drinks, and go to your table to wait for your meal to be served. The service tends to be rather slow, and so if you have taken a hot drink, it isn't hot by the time the meal arrives. I have been there twice recently and the food was acceptable. One meal I had was salmon fishcakes which were enormous and tasted nice, the other meal I had was a warm chicken and bacon salad which was really nice and the dressing was really lovely. However the problem of trying to negotiate steps carrying a tray of hot drinks spoiled the whole thing on both occasions, and in fact I think it is actually dangerous. I spoke to a couple of ladies who agreed with me, and we all agreed that as there are no tables on the same level as the queuing/ order point, we would not be returning to eat. I have no doubt that if there were any staff who were not rushing about clearing tables or serving plates of food, then we could have asked someone to carry the trays to our tables, but there were not any staff to be seen as 'free'' on either of the occasions I visited, and in any case holding up a long queue would have been embarrassing. So unless things change, then I won't be using this cafe again. Its unfortunate because I regularly eat in other Wyevale garden centre cafes, and have always given them very good or excellent reviews.

Memorised these to take back to my friend. Back to the cafe. Asked for two glasses of wine, taken the cabinet and shown one small bottle of Chardonnay and that was all they had.Ordered soup and one jacket potato. The soup was hot and tasty. Asked for cutlery and they were plonked on the table with serviettes for us to help ourselves. Left after two hours and the dirty plates were still on the table. We visited here last week for lunch. The food is always quite nice and I always have a lovely brownie. A couple of points though - the manager always walks round dragging her feet and shuffling them around. It's just so annoying and sloppy when you're sat eating! Also they were advertising their Valentine's afternoon tea. We were sat on the left hand side of the new part of the restaurant and quite frankly it is a tip outside! It's obviously used as a dumping ground as there are old hosepipes, crates, broken trees and old empty pots strewn everywhere. Come on Crowders, you're a Garden Centre! People don't want to sit there looking at a rubbish tip - especially not on a romantic Valentine's day! Tidy it up please...

Its our 1st time eating here for some time, but mmmmmmm - it wasn't as good as it used to be! We were totally disappointed and left a sour taste in our mouths! We had this beef dish with mashed potatoes and green beans. It smelt and looked divine, but the beef lacked taste and in fact, quite tasteless. Well, the potatoes were awful, full of lumps which were hard as the knockers of hell and again, so tasteless! The beans were perfect!.We thought we would it it another try and went the following week, but even that wasn't good at all and the food was tasteless, but looked good although a waste of time going! So we won't be back again in a hurry! What a shame as you could always get a good meal!

A very busy garden centre restaurant and cafe even mid-afternoon time. Both of us plumped for HamSalad, with wholemeal roll & coleslaw. All done very nicely, fresh salad leaves & thick carved ham. Very nice & not bad at £6.50 at all. A lovely place for a quick pit-stop & to fill your belly!

We decided to go for something different for Sunday lunch during a trip to Horncastle and very much enjoyed the salmon with twice baked potatoes and salad. The service was swift and very friendly. A slight issue was very quickly and happily dealt with in a very professional manner. Lovely to be able to read a free magazine and sit in the middle of the garden centre.

The food here is freshly prepared and includes many local products. Lunch for three with a drink each and a tip cost £35. The quality of ingredients was evident in the Goats' Cheese & Red Onion Marmalade Quiche with Salad & Potato Wedges (£7.95), also the Lincolnshire Beef Burger with Bacon & Cheese (served with chips and salad garnish £9.50). The Moroccan Salad Flat Bread (vegetarian £7.50) was more of an open sandwich than a salad but tasty and attractively presented. We all enjoyed our meals. There is a nice gift shop on site to supplement the well stocked garden centre. With such lovely local products it would be nice to be able to buy them to take away - the only food products on site were of the jars and tins souvenir variety. The only farm shop we could find nearby had limited stock/choice.

My husband and I recently travelled to Norfolk and on route stopped at the Redwood for breakfast. We took our table in the pleasant conservatory and placed our order a full English breakfast. Service was a little slow but the food was freshly cooked and tasty, coffee although freshly brewed was almost cold. The meal was reasonably priced. On our return home a few days later we stopped again at the Redwood for a light lunch,we decided on toasted sandwiches. What a disappointment my order was for cheese and ham with a salad garnish, the ham was tough and hard to chew, the cheese resembled a lump of white plastic. My very small salad garnish was limp dry and tasteless, coffee again almost cold, service slow.I regret to say this will be my final visit.

My Son, Daughter in law, Grandaughter, partner and great granddaughter came up from Suffolk today to celebrate my birthday. We hadn't booked but a table was found for us with no problem. The food was delicious. We had an assortment of dishes, rump steak, lamb shank, toasted sandwiches, sandwiches and childs goodie box,. The food was piping hot, beautifully served and very very tasty. We then had a variety of desserts and mine was a trio of icecream, served on a triple dish on top of another plate. The bottom plate had happy Birthday written in coulis. The chef brought it out to me and wished me a happy birthday. Jane, the Catering Manager then brought me a birthday card from all the redwood team. The atmosphere was brilliant and it really made my day. Thank you Redwood and Redwood team.

Went here today for a lunchtime snack. We ordered two baked potatoes with cheese which took over 25 minutes to arrive. Fortunately we had purchased tea which was in a large teapot. When eventually the food did arrive, it seemed as though the potatoes had been cooking for even longer as they were even burnt on the inside. When we questioned the long wait for a potato and a bit of salad we were told the kitchen had been flooded with orders. This was a surprise since the place was not full and the fact that people who came in long after us were served with hot meals just as we got ours. Perhaps we just picked the wrong dish! We have been here in the past when it was Botts Coffee Shop and I have to say the name change has certainly affected the quality of food and service. We will not rush back and would not recommend it to friends!

We visited for lunch using a promotional 2 for 1 voucher. The restaurant is clean and comfortable but lacks atmosphere. Our meal was very mixed - the broccoli and stilton soup was excellent but the crab starter served in a jar was by far the most disappointing starter and poorest value I have experienced anywhere worldwide. The teaspoonful of sauce, served over rocket leaves, tasted of crab but there was no crab meat as I would have expected. I then had the beef on mustard mash - the mask was tasteless and when I complained the waitress said the chef had forgotten to put in the mustard. The restaurant was less than half full and we left with the impression of chaos in the kitchen. All in all, very hit and miss and would not recommend as there are much better restaurants in the area.

Came for Sunday lunch last week, using a Groupon voucher, when i phoned to book i was told that they were really busy and they would try and get us in, had a few problems sorting the booking (with several phone calls) but only minor. When we arrived on Sunday i was v surprised to see that the restaurant wasnt as busy they had suggested to me. However, that aside service was swift and attentive, starters were lovely, we all had roast beef and this was also very nice, my only minor criticism would be that the gravy on the plate (the beef was laid on this) was cold, everything else was lovely and hot and a nice selection of veg. All in all a nice lunch, we were last to leave and didnt feel rushed or that we had to leave. The waitresses were lovely and friendly and looking at the menu prices, we definitely got a good deal with Groupon. So yes we would return in the future.

Popped in to try the lunch menu for my Birthday lunch. We both had the crab cakes followed by the fish and chips.Fantastic quality, freshly cooked food. Crab cakes were crispy and succulent and full of juicy meat. Served with rocket and a punchy sweet chilli sauce. The fish was a Super thick square of cod (perfectly cooked and super crispy batter) with thrice cooked chips, crushed peas and tartare sauce. The fish and chips is on a par with that of the Quayside in Whitby. I would actually say that due to the thickness of the fillet that it was better than the Quayside as it kept moist and flaked beauifully. Will definitely be returning.

First visit to The Redwood, using Groupon voucher. Restaurant incorporated into Crowdens garden centre. Booked Sunday lunch for 1.00pm, table was ready, and room already full of diners. Choice of 3 starters (our first choice crab cakes all gone!) but ham hock terrine excellent. Mains good choice of lamb, beef, pork, sea bass and a veggie option were very good, large portions of meat served on hot plates with sides of selected veggies. No room for puddings, but other diners puddings looked good. Finished off with good coffee. Even without Groupon would have been well worth the money. Staff attentive, good car parking, very clean and a chance to visit the garden centre afterwards to walk of the meal! It was our first visit, but won't be our last.

I had to send my battered fish back as it was uncooked in middle (Pink and visible veins), this was promptly replaced and was cooked ok but the thick cut chips were slightly undercooked and hard. Mum had turkey dinner with almost raw veg,a cremated sausage wrapped in overcooked, brittle bacon and no gravy. All in all quite disappointed although,to be fair,we weren't charged for our coffees in way of compensation for the returned fish.

Our main course was beautiful breast of fresh turkey, pigs in blankets, compote of cranberries and orange strips, roasted parsnips, sweet potatoes and then 4 dishes of freshly cooked and steaming hot brussels sprouts(bright green not overcooked) broccoli red cabbage and sweet swede and potato mash with a fine jus..To finish this was either homemade raspberry and vanilla icecream with chocolate dressing, or apple panacotta with dried apple and apple sauce. . The price per person was £14.95 which is absolutely fabulous for that class of cuisine. The service was first class ,very attentive but not overdone. It is always a pleasure to dine there. We were travelling home from Spalding and both of us ere feeling quite hungry. Instead of travelling the usual route, I decided to follow the SatNav, which took us through Horncastle. I saw the sign for Crowder's Garden Centre, Cafe and Restaurant, so we decided to call in.We arrived at the restaurant, which was empty, at 2.15pm to be greeted with, "I'm sorry, we stop serving at 2.00pm, but you can still get something from the cafe."Whilst at the cafe, deciding which sandwich to have, the waitress came back to us, "I've had a word with the chef, and he said it;'s ok, so if you'd like to take a table..."So here we have a chef and front of house staff who are willing to stay over and cook for just two visitors! What more can I say? Well, I'll tell you what more...We both selected Beer-battered Coley, triple-fried chips and mushy peas. The chunky piece of fish was moist and perfectly cooked within itsthin and fluffy beer-batter, the chips were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside and the peas were not the normally expected marrow-fat peas but garden peas, boiled to perfection with a hint of mint, then mashed, in the style of some of the Michelin Star chefs. The dish was served with a pot of tartar sauce (home made?) and a large slice of lemon. It looked good and it tasted even better!A more tasty meal I haven't had in a restaurant for a long time and positively the best 'fish & chips' we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. We gave our compliments to the chef in person and thanked him for staying on just for us. He is and Aussie but we can forgive him for that, considering his superb standard of cooking and that we retained the Ashes. :o)

Have had the set Sunday lunch on several occasions. Quality of the meal has been fairly consistent. Today however, the experience was overshadowed by some very nasty custard! It sounds very picky, when the rest of the meal was fine, but watery, lumpy, tasteless powdered custard with the crumble, took the edge right off...
