Was our first visit here in many years and will certainly be back. I had the vegetarian option of Sunday lunch ,a curried veg pie which came with a good selection of veg, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire Pudd. It was the best pub Sunday lunch I have ever had. Very generous portion. My friend had the lamb roast and was as equally happy with his. Don't know how we found room for pudding but a Biscoff cheesecake and bread and butter pudding were soon devoured. The service was perfect ,staff friendly , definitely a great choice for Sunday dinner.

A very enjoyable Sunday lunch with good quality food served by great staff. To balance this review and explain why it wasn't 5 star, the roast parsnips were missed out from both our plates (plenty of other food though) and the restaurant is rather noisy. Would I return? Absolutely.

We have been before and had terrible service - we were tempted again as we have a new puppy so dogs are welcomed - bad mistake - we waited an hour for our food - we ran out of drink no one came to check on us outside - when we did go and ask ( two teenagers getting grumpy) we were told there was a group of 20 booked at the same time as us so we had to wait - food did come out - steak was massively over priced - the meat was fatty and full of veins - we were told it was the cut! Bill came nothing discounted - sorry but not worth trying ever again.

Popped in on way home from day out. Had heard it was a lovely friendly pub. We were new to the area so decided just to pop in for a drink and see. It was the most unfriendly bar ever. Walked in and it fell silent the bar area was small and obviously everyone was a local. Two men sat at the bar were obviously drunk and the other guests just looked. Nobody spoke even though i am friendly and always look and smile and say hello when i walk in anywhere. If my husband had not already ordered we would have left. Went outside to covered area out the back sat there had our drink and left. Have never ever returned. First time in my life i have felt so uncomfortable

The service was delivered by a great team and the cocktails were very good according to all. The barman was was funny and great company with good suggestions. We have eaten at this lovely pub a few times over the last month or so. It is consistently good with good food service staff, eager to please using good food service and customer care skills. The menu shows a creative team in the kitchen. The dishes are well planned and at reasonable prices with good sized portions, very tasty and well presented. Having had a minor issue with a dish, the restaurant manager couldn’t have been more helpful in providing an alternative at a lower price. I thoroughly recommend this lovely country pub.

The ambience, service, drinks, food, all absolutely lovely. It cost £180 for 4 kebabs with chips and dressings, one parmesan chips, a bottle of wine, a gin and tonic, a zero alcohol beer, a lemonade, and 4 desserts. Now I eat out a lot and that felt excessive for pub food. It was a good evening had, and I did enjoy my food, but value for money… narp.

My wife and I went to the Red Lion’s Garden Kitchen restaurant in Cranford for drinks and dinner. The food, atmosphere and buzz were all excellent. What always sets this restaurant (and all of the Greedy Gordon’s restaurants’) apart is that in addition to everything else, the service is always exceptional. Tonight we were served by Lucy, Isabel and Callum. All of them were welcoming, polite, respectful, efficient…and very, very friendly and accommodating. They made this an exceptional dining experience for us…again.

This was recommended by our fantastic b&b host in Brigstock (swallows rsst). Very popular place, deservedly so. Staff were great atmosphere was good and the food did the main work of selling a great dining experience. We shared the pie of the day- beef bouginion (who knew this would make a fab pie) and a traditional steak and ale. Both absolutely first class, with generous portion of hand cut chips and superb medley of summer steamed veg. Not sure when we have ever enjoyed a restaurant pie more than this.

Had a 7.30 booking for a meal with my husband. We were shown to a table in a separate area that was next to a table of 8 people who were not eating and just sat there getting sloshed. Part of a restaurant experience for me is the ambiance, this was unfortunately unpleasant as the loud behaviour was more suited to the bar or Wetherspoons. We ended up rushing our main course just to get out of there. We won’t go back.

First tike visiting The Red Lion. Heard a lot of good things about it, and it definitely lived up to it! My family and I visited for Sunday lunch. We were booked in for 1pm, seated straight away and drinks ordered. The area was a large extension to the building but it was very well maintained and the place is very nice looking. My wife and I had the BBQ pulled pork for starters and it was delicious! Full of flavour. My wife couldn't finish hers so I mopped it up too! My daughter had bread and butter for starter and she said it was very tasty. For mains my wife turkey dinner with all the trimmings, I had steak & ale pie and my daughter had kids chicken goujons. The turkey dinner and steak and ale pie were so good, but the portion sizes are quite large, we struggled to finish ours. The chicken goujons were massive and come with chunky chips. The chicken is so soft and moist. My daughter said they were some of the best she's ever had, and she's quite the connoisseur when it comes to chicken goujons! For dessert my daughter had chocolate ice cream which comes with a little chocolate flake and a wafer. Very well presented and looked nice. After a bit of encouragement from the family I decided to go for the Belgian chocolate brownie for dessert, and I'm glad I did! Wow, it was delicious! It comes heated with ice cream, chocolate sauce, little smarties on top, a wafer, a flake. The service was brilliant, we had our table cleared promptly between courses, we weren't rushed between courses, the staff were very friendly. It's not the cheapest of places to eat, but the service and food definitely reflects its price tag. Thank you for a brilliant Sunday lunch, Red Lion. We certainly will be back.

Food was great but service was awful. As we waited for the table a waiter was carrying drinks on a drink tray and one drink had fallen. It was a bottle of beer which spilt on one of my friends. Wasn’t given any tissue to clean up, the spillage was left on the floor which is not safe… When the food was being take to the table some food was dropped on the floor…. At the end when we came to pay for the bill our £210 deposit was never taken off. Luckily we noticed this as we were about to leave that this was not taken off the bill. When asked waiters about it they seemed puzzled and confused. We got the refund in the end. If we didn’t notice this we would have overpaid by a lot of money…. There is no other way to get the refund back other than it being taken off the bill. Just some feedback, maybe there should be a system where the refund automatically goes back to the payer as soon as the table checks in? Not good service at all! If we did not notice about the deposit would have been out of pocket. Really disappointing that this happened….

Firstly, I hate leaving bad reviews. I know how difficult it is to run a business & certainly things are made much tougher in these current times. I’d much rather recommend great places for others to visit and enjoy, but after todays experience at The Red Lion, this is one place that we won’t be going back to. The building itself is very nice, with a lovely cozy bar area and a great menu. Booked in for lunch as we’d been wanting to try the place for some time. The restaurant area is more of a large conservatory. Very busy and full of large groups. A bit too noisy to enjoy as a couples location as you can’t really hear each other speak above all the background volume. Certainly not somewhere to go for a romantic meal or with another couple as the conversation would be a struggle. The tables are also very close to each other and we were practically rubbing elbows with the table next to us. Without wanting to come across as a snob, 2 awful women who we’re constantly getting up to go outside to smoke, then coming back in and hacking up their phlegm with incessant coughing 🤢. On top of that vile habit, they were knocking back bottles of wine and bragging how much there were going to be over the drink drive limit when they left. Anyhow, despite that nearby behaviour making it rather unpleasant to eat and be around, it wouldn’t be fair to blame the Red Lion for the behaviour of their customers - I’m just trying to set the scene. We had a few starters which were tasty and a couple of drinks. For our main, we tried the roast beef sandwich and dipping gravy and the bacon, Brie and sausage sandwich (baps to be precise) Not cheap at £15 each, so expected them to reflect their price. The beef one was good, but the bacon, Brie and sausage one tasted like it was lacking something. It was….. the bacon. We noticed about halfway through and asked the waitress if it was meant to come with bacon. She said it was & went back to the kitchen to ask what happened. The chef apologised and said they had forgot to add it and if we wanted, they could cook some. I said not to bother as we were almost done, so it would be pointless. Then the bill came. £82.00 for a few starters, 2 drinks and 2 sandwiches (one of which was missing the key ingredient) I was half expecting the waitress to knock a few quid off to reflect their error, but no. When she came over to take payment, I politely asked if there was anything that could be done to adjust the bill to reflect the issue, but my question was met with a “huff” and a roll of the eyes as if it was going to be too much like hard work. Her response was laughable, “to be honest, the bacon only makes up a small part of the dish” and in her opinion, didn’t warrant any concession on their part. But if I wanted to escalate the matter, she would go and find a manager for me to speak to about it. I was so shocked by her negative attitude and poor response, I just wanted to get out of there, so paid the ridiculous amount of £82.00 for a sub standard lunch for 2 and left. Overall, not worth the money, not worth the 45 minute each way drive to get there and certainly not worth going if you want good service. My recommendation is that there are plenty of other pubs in the county that deserve your custom and money more than this one does.

What a find, a real hidden gem, probably the best restaurant we have visited in the last four to five years. We were treated to a Greedy Gordon’s group voucher by family and chose the Red Lion based on Trip advisor reviews, it was definitely a great choice. The food, service and value for money all 10/10, I had mussels for starters and they were excellent, at that point I knew we would be coming back to this great restaurant again and again. To the team both front of house and in the kitchen thank you for a great experience.

Ordered the game pie. Never had a game pie so rolled the dice. All I can say is wow. This has to be the best pie I have ever had in a pub. Pub is very changed from Red Lion of old. Reasonable amount of parking. Eating area is a space walled by glass with minimal soft furnishing making it so noisy. I had to lean across the table to hear my friends talk. We were offered a table nearer the bar but that felt too like a corridor. We were the last to leave and the noise level was significantly reduced. My mussel starter had a béarnaise sauce with toasted bread to dip. Little to no sauce. So little the bottom of my pot had no sauce in it? Chicken dish with flat bread was lovely. Pea ravioli tasted nice but ravioli was too thick. Mains came very quickly after starter. Too quick. No one checked in during the meal. The kebab skewers looked good and were equally good to eat. Good selection of beers and wines. No local beers though. Disappointing. Plenty of zero beers to choose from. Fair prices. £158 for 4 including drinks. For a place to meet friends to catch up this didn’t work for me as it was too noisy to chat. I would return to sample other items on the menu (Sunday lunch looks nice) but would need to look at where the seating is quieter. It has the makings of a first class gastro pub. Staff were polite but need to check in and personally I feel some noise dampening is needed in the area we sat in and some local beers need to be featured.

We celebrated Mother-in-Law’s belated birthday at The Red Lion. The reviews I had read were good and we were not disappointed. The staff were all young and, although working very hard, found time for a smile as they whizzed around. The food was great too and the portions generous. The sour dough starter that I enjoyed was almost a meal in itself, the cheese board was plentiful, and the port that washed it down was excellent. We dined at 7pm and every table was occupied, a recommendation of quality if ever there was one. The Red Lion is not the cheapest eatery, but you do get what you pay for! One final word, the draught pale ale is great and possibly addictive as I couldn’t leave it alone. Thankfully I wasn’t driving so I could enjoy the ale with a clear conscience. All told I happily give the Red Lion ten out of ten. Like General McArthur – we will return!

We always like going to the Red Lion at Cranford. The service is good and the menu is vast, there is always something for everyone. My husband likes the pie of the day, and I like trying out something new, I patricularly like the hanging chimichurri! And for desert, it just has to be a cafe gourmond with 5 bite size deserts and a cappuccino, what a way to finish off a meal. I never feel rushed and the staff leave you alone, a very good dining experience. We have lived over this way for less than a year, but attend The Red Lion frequently. It is a lovely place to dine with family and friends.

This village pub has served consistently good quality food in the 6 years we have been in the area. Covid has curtailed our lunchtime trips so it was a delight to go back here today. The food is still exceptional, the beer is good and the service absolutely top quality.Fantastic and the two meals for £25 currently being offered is brilliant value for money.

Pretty little quaint pub, was nicely decorated and cosy, the service was lovely and the food was amazing. We had the hanging steak kebabs as they were something different you can’t get elsewhere and the steak was so flavourful and cooked perfect, my husband had the surf and turf kebab with swordfish and again was so tasty. The desserts were beautifully presented and tasted nice. Lots of choice and large portions. Will definitely be back and would recommend.

Average food with gastro-pub pretensions. Good ideas on the menu but not very well executed. Vegetarian options really limited. Shop brought sauces spoiling some nice ingredients. Expensive and not justified by what was delivered to table. Hot desert delivered cold to table. Lots of little disappointments and overall quite average. Staff friendly, but lots of missed opportunities to up sell. Brought us the bill without us asking for it before we even had the deserts we had ordered. We might have wanted more drinks but we’re not given an opportunity. Had to ask repeatedly for things like water or milk for coffee. Main dining room noisy and with no open windows just hanging some curtains would help soak up the noise generated by a room full of dinners in what is effectively a glass box. Have been here before, about a year ago, and it seemed better then. But on recent experience will not be returning.

Have had beers here before, all kept very well and in a homely little bar area with open fire giving a lovely traditional pub feel, but this was first time eating. The main restaurant area has a really nice feel. The table staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was beautifully presented and we have no problem recommending eating here.

Slightly more expensive than other pub food in the area so disappointing that the fish had no taste, the chips were not home made. The smashed garden peas came in a little copper pan on the plate. A case of trying to be posh but with poor ingredients. The pudding was nice but should be for the price. Service good. Waitresses friendly. Maybe other mains were better. Shame as a nice setting and dining area

We had heard this was a good venue to dine. It’s a very popular place and was quite full by 6.15 on a Saturday evening. The friendly staff were very attentive and polite. The menu showed signs of a talented and creative kitchen team. However due probably to poor choice the wild mushroom dish was over loaded of unmelted cheese in the centre. My cured hake was very well presented and tasty. My fish and shell fish dish was very tasty and served very hot.Unfortunately my partners main course was also undercooked and was subsequently taken off the bill. All the dishes were quite large portions. We would not sit in the conservatory again as it was very noisy with no soft furnishing to deaden it…..it was having a good time!

- [ ] After reading the reviews on the Red Lion we decided to try it out ourselves. Booking on a Wednesday for the Friday, we could only get a 5.45 or 8.30 slot. Not being a fan of eating too late we took the 5.45 booking and were pleasantly surprised to find we weren’t the only people in the restaurant. It’s a lovely bright and airy space with full length windows to two sides letting plenty of light in and leaving you to admire the beautiful flowers in the surrounding garden area. We were seated quickly and handed the menus to peruse. There are plenty of choices for all 3 courses but we decided to have the tomato bread with olives to share as a starter as we were looking forward to a pudding later. This came well presented and was very tasty with hummus and a pot of oil and balsamic vinegar also on the plater. For mains we both had the Kebabs, myself having the steak and the wife the chicken. Both are presented fantastically, accompanied with chips, garlic pitta bread, and a mixed salad. Really enjoyed the boiled egg in the salad. We never got to try the puddings as the kebab beat me, I must be getting old as I never usually leave chips. The Chicken Kebab was probably some of the best chicken I have ever eaten so soft and moist. The steak Kebab was ok but some of the meat was quite tough and hard too cut. S Finished off with two teas, you get a little jar with a few chocolate eggs in which is a nice touch. Lovely meal and good value for money with excellent service .Book early if you want to go after 7 as the place rapidly filled up.

The selection of food was amazing and there was an offer on selected main meals (2 for £25).The staff were attentive and very pleasant. We opted for scallops for starters and the pork for our main. We weren’t going to have a dessert but after viewing the menu my husband had tiramisu roulade and me the lemon meringue cheesecake - yum yumIt was such good value and we both agreed we would go again.

On making a booking earlier in the day, we alerted staff to the fact that I need to follow a gluten free and lactose free diet. We arrived and received a warm and friendly greeting. Ashley gave us the menus and immediately told me what was suitable for me on the menu - very impressed! The food arrived and it was all cooked to perfection and hot. All in all it was a superb experience, and with the staff making my food choice easy, we will certainly return.

Very busy in the outside areas! Awesome inside areas. Great service from friendly staff. Menu was extensive with lots of choice. Starters I chose was a Scotch egg, which when it came was huge. Booked the Garden Restaurant for my wife and I on our Anniversary. Her first words to me when we sat down was that it smells like holiday. The open air restaurant grill was amazing. The service was great and they really went the extra mile. The beer I liked was in a separate bar and they were happy to get that for me. Food was amazing and probably the best I've eaten while out. Well done to the management and the team as you are delivering a great service and value for money. We will be back without a doubt.

This was our first visit. I reserved a 3hr slot as we were meeting family for Christmas. A family member ordered the pulled pork burger, she is not a fussy eater but what was served looked like dog food. The pulled pork had disintegrated. I tried some and the texture was not nice. Coated in a very large amount of bbq sauce. Not what you expect when you order pulled pork, you expect the nice shredded pieces of pork. This was mush. I raised this with the waitress and they said they can cook a plain one as there is a issue with there pulled pork, but the waitress said she would need to charge me for the new burger. This is the first time I've come across this. If your food is not up to standard and doesn't taste nice is is rude to charge them for something they haven't eaten. I went ahead and got charged with it as it was more important at the time to enjoy our family time and make it memorable than to be arguing with the waitress over extra charges. When the new burger was brought out the burger itself was stone cold, to the point where the cheese slice wasn't even melted so it had clearly been sitting around in the kitchen for a bit before serving it. Which I don't understand why as they were not busy there was only 1 other table dining at that time with 4 people on. My family member decided to eat it but diddnt enjoy it and left most of it. About an hour and a half into our booking the waitress comes to our table and said I've rung your bill up you can pay at the bar. Which made some of my family feel like they wanted us to leave even though I had booked the table for 3hrs. Overall decor is nice. But the food is awful. Dry cold burgers and pulled pork mushy and customer service bad, charging us for a new burger when there food is not up to standard.

This is like home from home. I was at a vets a few mins around the corner & had 4 hours to kill. I had travelled 60 miles to get there & asked if there was anywhere near by that I could get a coffee. I was directed to Stirrups. Arriving tired starving disorientated & quite stressed after a long drive in the snow with a very sick animal in the passengers seat. I ordered a fat fry up for breakfast which was amazing & a coffee which was superb. They even do Gluten free (I'm allergic just to extra awkward) BUT WHAT STANDS OUT (apart from the food & spot on coffee) was the staff & service. Amber who was behind the bar was so so lovely not only offering top service but also asked about my animal at the vets, stopping for chat gave me WiFi password & offered such kindness & compassion that it genuinely made me feel so much better. The staff put the heating up for me & gave me a nice spot by a radiator as it was freezing which was so so nice of them. My only other option was a waiting room or the car for 4 hours not nice in 1 degrees! Kindness is such a rarity in the world that we live in. Thankyou staff at Stirrups & especially Amber for you hospitality & kindness, compassion & smile.
