Depressing and miserable atmosphere, with unfriendly staff serving crap food, :-)

50% old-school local boozer, 50% hub of counter cultural activity. Recommended for all the punks, or just anyone who wants a good local cider in an unpretentious atmosphere for less than £4.

Rockers pub but very welcoming to all good heavy metal and I’m not in to that staff very accommodating lovely locals proper old sloop pub I’m sure bikers would love it lots of different varieties of drinks too bus stop close by and church road for after pub kebabs etc

Had a bad experience with the kitchen here a few years back but tried it again and they've redeemed themselves. Great vegan pizza. The pub itself is one of the best spots in Bristol. Cheap, friendly staff, hosts great music promotions.

Awesome old skl Bristol vibes if you enjoy dnb, punk music or anything underground. They really do put on epic nights. They also serve delicious stone baked pizza. It gets extremely lively at the weekend :)

some of the most rude staff I have ever come across in Bristol. I am disabled and was mocked by the sound engineer for saying I was anxious about DJing ("to be honest you're not helping yourself here mate") plus rude and despondent bar staff. I hear the owner/manager is nice however my experience with her staff was quite the opposite. My experience was both upsetting and hurtful, I shall never be returning.

It is a great alternative pub for people ho are free thinking ho want music and something different.

I've used this pub a few times as it's dog friendly. I've found it to be a nice place with reasonably priced beverage and friendly staff keen to oblige. Will go again!

A great little pub which simply is happy with what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. If you don't like it, fine, go elsewhere, sums up the place - and this is meant in a really good way. Loads of good ales and outside seating as well.

One of the best locals about while also looking after the local community. Leading the way in how pubs should be. Great vibes lovely garden good music and topclass selection. Some of the best pizzas about and generally in its own league. This review isn't for the average punter this is for other pub owners all about to see a pub that is perfection.

Laid back staff, playing good music. Good outside drinking area. No food but the staff are happy for you to get something from a local takeaway.

Rough gig space. Expect loud music, mediocre to poor sound quality, high levels of enthusiasm, and spilt beer. 2 pints cider £7. Sometimes the live music costs, sometimes it's free, but it's always with gusto!

I've been told this pub is cool and has good music and nice vibes which in my experience has been true, however on the evening of the 1st January the behaviour of the bar man was completely out of order and I should hope out of character. If someone can't handle working long hours without getting verbally rude and physically aggressive towards a customer that was causing no problems and mining his own business then quite frankly he needs a new job or psychiatric help. My jacket was ripped and jumper was ruined in this completely unnecessary altercation.

I smoke and the 'garden' is completely covered with plenty of tables. The Lion often has live music & a great atmosphere. This is a lively pub with a large percentage of 'younger' clients; prices are competitive and I have been back a few times. Simon

Great pub and small music venue.

Amazing place with great bar staff, Garden, punters and music. However this was ruined by a pizza chef. A simple question of asking if there was any mayonnaise turned into a 5 minute confrontation with a whole lot of attitude.

UPDATE: I’ve received sincere apologies from a number of the team and we were treated really kindly on our return visit. Really glad it sparked a review of how the pub wants to work with families and kids when they come. Thanks so much for making this effort as it was a horrible experience Absolutely disgusted with my experience tonight. Went for a drink and pizza with some friends to one of our locals, we’ve always enjoyed coming before. I brought my young baby in the sling. After sitting for a while and having a drink, the total jobsworth that was sorting out the track and trace basically told me if she didn’t stop making a noise we’d have to leave!! I couldn’t believe he was serious. His concern was that other people wouldn’t be able to hear the music. No one else was sitting near us or looking remotely bothered by the low level grizzle my baby was making. We had chosen a quiet seat near the gate and furthest from the stage. He didn’t even get up to speak to us and was unbelievably rude. We left immediately. One of his colleagues did apologise outside but it felt a bit too little too late, and the manager wasn’t there. It’s so rare to find a time to hang out with friends and our night was completely ruined as I had to get my baby home without having eaten or spent proper time together. If there is a policy about no children after 7pm, a) why didn’t he explain this when I arrived at 6.30pm and b) I have never been anywhere else where this has applied to breastfed babes in arms. I have also been inside the pub with my previous baby a couple of years ago without having any issue. I am not one to usually write bad reviews or rant but feel left without an option on this occasion.

Astonishingly poor customer service. Watched a member of staff humiliate a young mum. Disgusting. With so many great pubs round here there is no need to support this kind of behaviour.
