Just nipped in with my son . No long cues food was amazing , staff really polite and helpful. Highly recommend.

Popped in for a carvery the other day and absolutely LOVED it there. The staff were so friendly and approachable it made the whole visit fantastic. Would recommend it 👍

Pizzas are incredibly fresh and perfect for a late night treat

We come for breakfast nearly every weekend and it never disappoints! Better then toby carvery breakfast The food on offer is great. Lots of choice. We’ve been before for lunch and dinner too and the food is great from the carvery and the menu! Great friendly staff too! Lovely pub!

I am a bit of a picky eater so places like this can sometimes be a bit worrying but I got the veggie finger sandwich(es) with chips on the side as well as a couple of sides and it was really nice and decently affordable. A guy named Joey served me and he was a nice guy and we had a quick chat while I was ordering so that was nice. All in all decent place and my family loved the carvery and really want to get one of the pizzas next time after seeing people with them, would recommend

I was served by a tall man called Joey, he was extremely helpful and made my evening much better after his wonderful service. I had a great time with the family. Please pass on my kind regards to Joey and increase his wages for his gestures.

Only rated 3 star ongoings problems with mens toilet shocking always sticking always floor flooded Furniture looking passed its sell my date could do with a clean top to bottom especially around speakers window areas But very friendly staff Would attract more people if sorted

Nipped in to the Red Lion for a hot drink after visiting the cemetery. We quickly decided to have lunch too. We both had a granary sandwich. The bread was soft and fresh, the turkey was delicious and I had crispy chicken which was hot and tasty. We were served by Jenny who was very pleasant and happy to make changes to the menu for us. We will definitely visit again.

Relaxed atmosphere and decent food. Andy and Jenny couldn't be more accommodating.

I order for delivery . I order a large one because I share . You don't receive a large you receive a traditional with an extra Yorkshire pudding . And to add insult to injury the beef was all grissle and fat . This has happened a cpl of times now . If I was eating in this wouldn't happen . 2 pieces of meat if your lucky it's not all bits . The takeout should be to the standard of eating in but it's not . Also when you request in notes no cauliflower etc , your request gets ignored . Disappointed !

Had a table booked to be told upon arrival theyd stopped serving food at 8pm. This is despite you being able to book a table for 'Dinner' up until 845pm? Make this make sense! Not a good experience, didnt even have any food. Avoid if you dont want to be disappointed

Firstly the food is fine i am not complaining about that but the service is shoddy. I have contacted head office to explain that the takeaway rules are unclear regarding breakfast . There is a massive sign behind the counter saying all you can eat until 11.30am no mention that the rule only applies to those who choose to sit in with their order. I see other reviews going back a year saying the same and nothing has been done about it. The lady behind the counter says i will do it this time making me feel guilty not! What is stop me sitting down with the food putting into my own container and then walking out? I was not even offered cups for coffee and as i said the carton is so small you cannot take too much anyway. The whole situation is pathetic. Finally i agree with other reviews guy with the glasses is rude and today went and hid when he saw me coming because he probably heard me telling another customer the service i was about to receive and didn,t let me down. Visited for lunch. Had the traditional Carvery. The food was hot and fresh. The team on duty were extremely welcoming and friendly.

We had Christmas dinner at the red lion swinton. The atmosphere and food was lovely. No complaints definitely recommend. But a special thank you to our waitress Abbie. She was professional friendly and looked after us and couldn’t do enough for us. I hope management read this as Abbie helped made our Christmas dinner. Thank you all x Ryan cath and Sharon x.

The Go Large option in the carvery did offer better value, with a reasonably good portion of beef in the plate. The vegetables were, however, very under the lights. Time of day was an issue but tea time should see a fresh replenishment maybe. Service was good, they paid a lot of attention to allergies. Value for money was ok.

Call in after playing football and have a few drinks with the team. I would recommend the hot porker pizza if you're a fan of pizza

Had carvery there on Sunday 2 of us and both of us have had food poisoning.. Tuesday now and still bad both of us..

Went for Sunday lunch 17 November. We took some friends for the first time, to be honest it was the worse I have ever had. The beef was tough and when my friend asked if he could have some fresh roast potatoes he was told no they are not ready yet, the staff member shrugged his shoulders and walked away, also the meal went cold very quickly at over £12 per head it was poor. Never had a problem there before. Will be giving the carvery a miss in future.

Been for a meal many times but price has increased recently. Still a great carvery and now do delicious Pizzas at the dedicated pizza bar. Great quiz night with Mike Prince on Sunday evenings, 8.30 start, book a table!

Visited Sunday evening for a meal before the quiz. Staff pleasant. Food was good , managed to get fish and chips this week as usually sold out, so bonus. Good atmosphere.

Staff friendly, food was lovely, breakfast was all hot and fresh but decor of pub could do with updating. Toilets were clean but smelled a little. Other than that an enjoyable trip.

Just revising my last review having learned Google don't allow more than one review dor a business which is a shame ! Want to show my appreciation of the lovely; friendly caring staff, especially, this time , managers on duty Emma and Andy during my latest visit today. I'd popped in for a light late breakfast from themenu ( where usually myself and partner Angie normally call in early doors for the local Stonehouse teams wonderful great value buffet help-yourself breakfasts after tge school run ! The standard of hospitality here is consistentky high, definely has the X factor and you're guaranteed a nice family feel, comfy relaxed atmosphere, food to a consistent high high standard . All the staff so professional, engaging , genuinely friendly and going the extra mile for you. The place is always spotless and it's clear the team , all levels ,are happy, passionate about what they provide for customers. Both Emma and Andy gave me helpful advice when I asked about possibility of takeaways( for Angie's elderly mum ) and so happy to learn about how that's done and the care that goes into that option. Also told about the app and the loyalty rewards for customers who join! Given a card with a Q code by Andy to make that a doddle registering. Apologies for taking sneaky candids of the managers ( too engaged with customers to notice) - I've respectfully cropped out those they were serving. Thanks too, when later, having mislaid my debit card , I dropped in tonight . It has not been handed in but was asked for my number so if their cleaner colleague found it in the morning they could ring me ( mentioning she was a star , meticulous and thorough. Later , when home I phoned just to flag up I'd found tge card hiding under my driver's seat . Damn those senior moments! ) Again had been treated as if I was family by another Andy , who is a resident chef there abd off duty- when enquiring about my card . Nice he remembered me- and my partner as regulars at bigger breakfast time! No wonder this is our first choice for our milestone family events , quality carvery, great value and genuinelyvfamily friendly. Know lots of people who love this place- so wish more people would feed back to let the staff know they are appreciated . ( Seems to be a Brit thing only commenting negatively and only if they have a gripe about a business of service. You can be assured that if something is not to your satisfaction this team will go out of their way to ensure your experience is positive. ) thanks again guys- you made my day.

Came here for a bite to eat before meeting my partner. Tried some of the new menu items and they were delicious! I definitely recommend the jalapeño and cheese donuts!! I also had a carvery. Chris H was very good at carving the meat. Polite, friendly staff and good value for food

Attended the Red Lion for a last minute carvery. I would certainly recommend! The meat was fresh and cooked to perfection which is good considering we went for a late dinner (8pm). The staff are friendly and welcoming and the prices are excellent. Cheap food with very good quality. Although cleanliness was on point from the staff on shift, they were constantly wiping tables and ensuring customers are happy, however you can tell that a deep clean has not been done for a while, cobwebs and dust on lights and shelves for example. The little details are what distinguish a 4 star from a 5 star rating. Would certainly recommend and will be returning again. Keep up the good work.

I LIVED AT 13 MOSS LANE 12 MINS WALK FROM THE CAT. TIME 1950 s AND I REMEMBER MY FATHER GOING TO THE CAT .. AND MY MOTHER . Very much part of my cherished childhood memories. I believe that my father , as others, sang at the piano for the clients ... different times .... Gorgeous carvery, best one in town. Knocks spots off the Tobys and the staff are much more legit. Get down for this scran. Absolutely highly recommended. Update: Breakfast is amazing here. Plenty on offer too. Cooked to perfection.

The only place I'll go for breakfast! Cheery staff first thing, always get a good morning and smile, belting breakfast! And to top it off as a parent with children who have additional needs our somewhat strange needs are always met without any issue, decor is very homely! There is always a cleaner plodding round topping up on the already immaculate job done before opening! 1000% will be back on a regular basis! Thankyou for a great experience!

Pretty grim. The whole pub needs a refurbishment - seats and carpets dirty, chipped paintwork and dirty toilets. The outside of the building looks awful with litter and dirty paintwork. Food was decidedly average. Ate there against my better judgement. Never again.

Waited over 5 minutes at breakfast for someone to come out and give me a plate No butter for toast no beans going down hill rapid

Horrible experience with cooking staff. Waiters/waitresses amazing, cooking staff arrogant. Clearly were backed up, but could've communicated this and managed expectations. Instead was told "it'll be just 10 minutes" several times. At the end it had been an extra hour and a half and I went.

Incredibly RUDE woman delivered a Sunday Carvery meal from here. Shouting and balling at me for an App code. Banging hard and loud on my door. I didn't buy the food through the app and not used to any delivery for food asking me for a code. I found it and she shoved the bag in front of my face to take out the food. When I mentioned that her customer service skills need some training, as she had a grumpy, angry look on her face, she muffled some abuse shouting down the path at me. She left the gate wide open. Rang The Red Lion to complain and they more or less washed their hands off it as they said the delivery is through a third party and they don't know where this courier is from. Not only that, the Manager said he thinks he knows who she is as he has had complaints about her before but they don't bother to find out where she is from & who she is so she can be reprimanded for her dire customer service, it is through Just Eat. I mentioned, this could harm their business as I would think twice about ordering food from here again. I don't expect to order a Sunday lunch and get that kind of bad service!!! The Red Lion should hold some responsibility for who delivers their food if it is chronic service. Not happy...

Girl taking our order at the bar wasnt really bothered and made it clear she wasnt. There was six of us and food 50% ok. Guy who collected plates after the meal was really nice joking with the kids.

Regular customer - Pizzas are great. Staff are very personable. The regulars are a great bunch. Never had a bad experience in the last couple of years since being a patron.

Called in Friday tea time, as I'm not well at the moment I asked for a small carvery. Was told no it was 5.20pm and they have stopped serving small carvery s , okay I asked for a child's portion carvery, was told No I have to be 12 and a half years of age or under. Only thing I could have was a large carvery. Simply not good enough, and they lost themselves a sale through that sort of attitude. It's a ludicrous rule, spoke to the Manager Andrew who said it was head office who made the rule. Well due to this we will never set foot in there again. Whilst we were there, we noticed how run down and disgusting it is the walls and even menus are filthy with old crusty food stick to them.

Cracking pint and the service is impeccable, a man named Andy really looked after us.

Was served by an employee named Andy very welcoming and friendly made my experience here very positive. Will be for sure returning to this restaurant because of this!

Dog friendly carvery and Stonehouse pieza

I’ve visited a few times for different reasons (lunch with work colleagues, Xmas meal and recently a birthday) there is never anyone waiting at the deck. The choice is hit and miss, the service definitely doesn’t come with a smile and the atmosphere isn’t great either.

All you can eat breakfast was nice, and the carvery was good too.

Andy is always amazing. Staff are friendly, fab service whether it's drinks, food, or breakfast. Always a good selection and the pizzas are stunning!

Very poor 2 people on between the bar and serving food won't bother visiting again I'll walk further down the road towards Wardley shocking.

It was chaos. A lot more like a pub than a restaurant. Hardly any seating for dining even though we had a table booked. I had to wander around to look for staff to inform them of our booking. Carvery was luke warm. Not the best atmosphere. Won't be back.
