Took them so long to make a chicken BLT out friends got there food before us and we're nearly finished there's when waiter brought mine out told him to put in takeaway box to take home

We stopped here for lunch after a day out at Seaton Delaval Hall. The menu choice was great and the price was good and when the food came we were all happy with what we'd ordered. I had asked for a lasagna with chips and salad and it was delicious. The staff were very cheerful, attentive and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. I would definitely recommend the red lion for a meal or just a quiet drink. Plenty of parking as well which is a bonus.

Have visited a number of times with elderly relative. In the past, have been satisfied with the food - today, felt it wasn't as good - wish I'd taken a photo of the presentation of the GF Burger. The burger (small) itself was okay, but looked totally unappetising - chips quite greasy. As I was with an elderly friend today (not the usual person I go with), only ordered a two course for £10.95 as I wasn't sure if he'd manage three courses - afterwards he decided he'd like a pudding, which could have been added for £3.25 when we ordered the two course starters and main. I appreciate that it states on menu that any changes would incur a charge, but it's such a shame that the lady behind the counter said it wasn't possible to add the pudding after having the two courses, other than paying full price for it (£5.95), rather than the £3.25. Out of principle I said we'd do without - can't understand charging an extra £2. 70 for the same pudding which could have been ordered initially for £3.25 Out of principle again, I won't be returning with my elderly relative. Shame that by stubbornly implementing the rule over £2.75 cost, a regular customer has been lost.

Fantastic, myself my wife, my brother and his wife, and 2 of our children went for a meal and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. We had the chorizo chicken and my brother had the tapas, it was all fresh, homemade, and delicious, even the fussy kids ate every bit of their children's menu meals which really says it all! Can't recommend enough, i encourage anyone to give it a go, we've just booked for Christmas day👍

On holiday from NZ and my brother is a regular here - always previously been very good. However; today was absolutely awful!! Carrot soup was like dishwasher, pork belly was dry and inedible. Steak pie was nice, as was black pudding starter. Service was absolutely AWFUL - by far the worse I have ever experienced. 1. Blonde barmaid was very unfriendly and unhelpful. 2. Chef came out when we returned the pork and asked aggressively, "What was wrong with it, we sent two more out and they didn't complain - begrudgingly through a refund at me. 3. Ordered three pies with chips, but one came with mash. Server said we would have to pay extra for chips now. We corrected them on this and they eventually swamped the mash for chips. 4. Brother's pie only had four chips and after 10 minutes of being ignored more chips appeared. 5. Two desserts came, but four were missing. Went to ask at bar and Blondie responded with, "Did you order them?". I reminded her she took our order. 6. After another,10 minutes I had to go back and enquire about the missing desserts again. They came a few minutes later and we're very nice. 7. In sum, standard of food was mixed; however, service was 100% disgraceful and downright rude!! Updated since your highly unprofessional response to the above review: Some say the truth hurts and to quote Jack Nicholson; "You can't handle the truth!". Rather than address the issues, you just play the "Offended/offensive" card. I'm amazed you've lasted 20 minutes in the trade, let alone 20 years with that attitude!!

Nice family friendly pub offering a great range of tasty food

First time here today and the Sunday carvery was delicious meat so tender and veg cooked to perfection will definately be back soon

Bit of a mix up with the tables,didnt relise you needed a ticket from the bar.The food was great,reallygood value.place was spotless will Defo be back.we had the roast ,the burgers looked great on the next table.cheers

Meats, yorkshire puddings really nice but potatoes not as good as usual, both mash and toasties veg a bit soggy. Not up to normal standard. Could just be standard of veg. Still very nice.

I had the carvery and desert , the meat slices where very thick and Yorkshire pudding was a good size , the veg was all home cooked and the sticky toffee pudding was massive

Absolutely love this place.. would never have a carvery anywhere else. All the staff are helpful and polite. Pat is Absolutely amazing coordinating it all and always has a smile on her face..Jamie and all on the carvery have a good chat on with you. The food is divine- best gravy ever. Meat is always tender and never dry. Ciders /beers are kept great- never a bad pint. TBH I could talk about this place all day long ad it's the best- try it yourselves and you'll not be disappointed

Popped in here with my son while working in the area and glad we did. Just what we like, home cooked, not mass produced, straight forward pub food. Had 2 courses each and a drink for the same price as a single meal and a drink at our hotel. Will definately be going back.

Can't fault this as a public house and the staff are very pleasant and friendly food is very good

Fab venue with frequent entertainment, live music, karaoke. A local pub with a great atmosphere. The staff are super friendly, prices are reasonable and the locals are welcoming. The bar has had an update on their interior and the establishment welcomes families, lets and vaping indoors.

A real gem. Great selection of beer, well looked after and you get a proper pint with a glass filled to the brim - no short measures here (other establishments take note). Food is mouthwateringly delicious. Another reviewer remarked on the black pudding in peppercorn sauce and I can only echo that praise - you have to taste it to beleive it (if I was a condemned prisoner I'd choose this as my last meal). The lunchtime menu is a steal at the price they charge. The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming and just make you want to come back for more. Sunday carvery is sublime with a generous helping of beef, gammon or turkey (or all three if you like). Vegetables seem to be freshly prepared and cooked to a tee and the roasties are to die for. Their yorkshire puddings are superb - crispy on the outside and softer in the middle - just how I like 'em. One "complaint" might be the yorkies could be too big for some (not for me!). How about doing two sizes, large and small? Less waste! The Red Lion is dog friendly, with plenty of parking and has a great outside seating area (nothing fancy but nice and comfortable). We used to come here during lockdown and sit outside just watching the traffic whizzing past while enjoying a nice drink on a summer's day/afternoon. A lovely, quality, reasonably priced pub and restaurant which is an asset to our community and if you haven't been, then you don't know what you're missing. (Also posted on Tripadvisor).

Lovely food. Homemade chips are really nice. I had the battered black pudding starter and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely hand battered and not just plucked out of the freezer. Will definitely have this again. I wasn't very adventurous having scampi for the main, but wanted something lighter. Previously had the homemade lasagne here and it's amazing. The homemade fish & chips is a winner too. Have to mention the staff also. All very pleasant, nice people. All in all, a great place to eat and drink.

Been again today, second time in a fortnight, wish I could have given another star, the food was amazing, i had fish and chips, out of this world, can't wait to go.back, would definitely recommend this place, well done guys.

Couldn't move on tables, jammed in. My 85 year old mother had to keep getting up off her chair to ket the next table out . Very badly designed where carvery is located , you can't get to bar, because of the queue. Booking process is fine online until you get there and they can't find your name , Need to use first name is surname and then change online. The other 3 people had the carvery and were nearly finished by the time my lunch came.

Booked meal in restaurant, very good food and service, Good choice of food and drink. Reasonably priced, also free starter or dessert when ordering a main course between 16.30 and 20.00. Relocated to bar/ Bistro after meal, slightly disappointed that there did not appear to be a separate bar area itself, all tables catering for food. Did not spoil the evening however. Friendly locals and also dog friendly. Could do with some lighting outside, especially near the steps leading to the main road.

Enjoyed an amazing meal here a few weeks ago. Was genuinely very impressed with the taste, freshness ans generosity of the portion on offer. The employees are all lovely and prices are very reasonable too. I will be back.

My husband booked a table at 10 am for 12.30 got told to turn up at Bistro when we arrived there was no table available and got offer to go outside what a joke this is bad for customer service

Lovely meal there with a friend,took the 2 dogs ,no problem in the bar..the sticky toffee pudding is the best...and the staff are very polite and friendly,will definitely be back

A little too pricey compared to other places we visit for meals of equal quality food and service.

First time I've been for a long time. Had a lunchtime meal and it was lovely. Chicken, leek and mushroom pie, really delicious. I finished it which is unusual for me. The meal was hot and I'll recommend it. Staff were friendly.

The food was cold, brioch bun wasn't great for a hot beef sandwich. The gravy was cold and the chips were over cooked. It took over three quarters of an hour to arrive. Most people in our group were disappointed ☹️☹️ I wouldn't go back or encourage anyone to go there.

Nice pub, but there is little or no atmosphere in the place.

Hhmmmmm, we had lunch, the staff were efficient enough, we were well looked after, just not sure I'd rush back... The steak pie was good (needed seasoning) but lots of chunks of tender beef! However, I wouldn't order the chicken and leek pie again (there wasn't a single chunk of chicken, just strings! Potentially reheated, and re-used chicken)... just all a bit average. But a good menu selection, lots of choice. Give it a go and make your own mind up.

Lovely home cooked food, good range of choices, brilliant value lunchtime specials, 2 courses £9.95, 3 courses £14.95. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Sunday lunch carvery option also very good! Do fantastic cheesecakes for dessert as well as other options.

We'll go back. Update..2 years later still busy, still good and still £8.95!!

Brilliant Christmas lunch. In fact such a lot to eat and staff soooo very pleasant. Loved every minute.

Love this friendly pub, food is really nice and the staff are lovely. It is our grandsons, 8 and 12, favourite place to go for tea.

We came to this pub on a wim been up to see family in Tyne mouth and came across this pub honestly we did not expect it to be as fantastic as it was the staff couldn’t do more for us and accommodated us in the bar area as we had a dog away from the live music! Friendly staff the live music was great but the real show stopper was the food! WOW! From just a normal pub we did not expect this quality of food honestly you NEED to try this pubs food! The tapas is outstanding! From Yorkshire we felt so welcome what a fantastic night Thankyou! Will definatly be back again

They need to get better extractor fans. Place stunk of fish. V off putting. Couldn't stay as didn't want to smell the same as the pub. Stood at bar for ages before anyone could be bothered to serve us even though they could see us waiting to be served.

Went here on a recommendation of a friend. The drinks were good. Food was undercooked and disgusting. Wouldn’t recommend. As for the atmosphere was about 10 people there guess I know why now.

Walked in with my wife and 3 kids. Nobody at the bar, so I waited and asked if we can sit anywhere. Was told yes. Sat down and was told that the table had been reserved for 1930 (it was 1700). Was asked to move to another table. Sat at the table, no kids menu there went to the bar, nobody there again. Gave up after mins and walked out. Terrible service

Lovely pub with a good range on menu, (although would be nice to have some tasty lower calorie options) staff were exceptionally pleasant, was with a large party but everyone enjoyed their food. Service in terms of time food taken to come out was a bit slow - but again was with a large party and I'd rather this than have reheated food. Will definitely be back Highly recommend 🙂 (good with children too)

Went for lunch, had fried black pudding with pepper corn sauce, amazing, and the best steak and ale pie I've tasted, full of tender steak with a light puff pastry top. The staff were all great, attentive and very friendly, big thanks to Will for making me laugh😊

Visited 29 July. warm welcoming staff accommodated us, even though we had not pre-booked for a busy Saturday night. Food was very good, I would recommend the Beef Blades, generous portions. Option of a free starter, or a free dessert. The dessert was big enough for two to share. Will we go back, definitely.

Great pub home made food and a great service would recommend

Really impressed with our visit to the Red Lion pub this evening. 6 of us ate, 3 kids and 3 adults, kids eat for 1p before 6pm. The food was freshly made and the kids portions were very decent. Big portions for the adults too. Would definitely recommend for good pub food.

At about 1.30pm we ordered a 2 course special at £9.95. Took so long to bring main and clear plates that at 3 pm we were short on time for desert. Asked could we take desert home...Reply was. You paid for main so you can't take home. Pointed out we paid for Special 2 course. Girl wasn't inerested in what l had explained to her about 2 course, then she walked away. She mentioned it to a guy from.the kitchen she appeared in the bar area and he just looked across n walked off!! WE WONT BE BACK

The 3 of us had a beautiful meal here on Monday & a special offer if you choose from the special menus you get a free desert. Eton Mess x 3 it was, served by a lovely Lady. Thank you. Would highly recommended this place. Lovely & spacious inside & lots of seating outside.

The best pub food I've had in a long time we had a beef sandwich with proper home made gravy and proper fresh skin on chips and the homemade lasanga was also fantastic and at 2 Courses for £9,95 it's great value for money also will at the bar was very enthusiastic about the food which is great to see. We will be back.

Great village pub with friendly staff and lovely food and drink. Plenty of outdoor seating, it's perfect on long dog walks or bike rides as located on the Wagonways.
