I was staying in the village hotel just down the road where everything on the menu was fried and expensive for a small portion. Some of us wanted better so i did some googling and found the Sambuca a five minute walk away. Building is an old pub where it has been changed internally to suit the restaurant. It is a pity that more money has not been spent on the inside to make it smarter and more attractive for first time and even repeat customers. The business has a hygiene rating of 5/5 so for hygiene which i am picky with, so got my custom. The menu was simple and the pricing very competitive. I couldnt believe the cost compared to what the hotel was charging. If my cider was nearly have the cost of the hotel. My first meal with chicken kiev. came with salad and chips. I was working 12 hour shifts so couldnt make sunday carvery but from 4.30pm, the menu offers a stek special sunday, monday and tuesday nights. 3 x courses for £19.95. Bargain Steak was cooked perfectly for a medium to well. Dessert was proffiter rolls which was loaded with cream and and chocolate. several of us went there everynight whilst in the area working. I would or we would highly recommend the sambuca for all your requirments. Staff were great and friendly. thankyou all for your service.

I was disappointed with our meal today. Ita normally cheap and cheerful but the beef was chewy, the gravy greasy and the service really rushed.

6pm. Walked in to a nice decor, greeted by friendly staff. Quick seating. Multiple menu's offered - food, drinks and specials menu's. So, as I was visiting from S England, I was taken aback by portion sizes. Ordered a garlic bread with cheese. Expected maybe a split ciabatta, but out came a 12in pizza. £3.50. Result. Ordered cajun chicken and king prawn. Decent meal. 2 bottles of Koppaberg. £29 total cost. Highly recommend and will visit again when I visit the area next

went today for mothers day . service okay . starter was nice. but the main course left a lot to be desired . myself and mam had Sunday lunch . when it came the plate was swimming in gravy this was obviously to hide what was under the gravy . both myself and mam left the meal we were asked if we wanted something else but declined . I explained the meat was tough roast potatoe was raw looked like the one round overly sized roast potato had been dipped in a fryer and the yorkshire pudding was dreadful like a flat cupcake . I was told by the person serving they had had complaints all day about the yorkshire pudding .maybe should have rectified for the customers . also said they don't usually serve Sunday lunches later in the day . maybe they should have said instead of serving this rubbish on the plate . yorkshire pudding recipe cup full of flour cup full of eggs cup full of full fat milk salt and couple of tbls very cold water Whisk together then leave for couple of hours . tray should have very hot oil . before pouring in the tray give the yorkshire pudding batter a stir . Ps never tasted bullock leather but if I had I'm pretty sure this is what it tastes like . Also took the 2 meals off the bill that we returned like they had done us a favour !

Good food, great prompt service

Came on Friday night, and have to say, was impressed with the good. Steaks were cooked as requested and certainly worth the value for money. Sadly the service isn’t up to par, which is a shame as there’s plenty of people working here. Problem is that none of the staff felt like they wanted to be there or were just bored. Will probably come here again if the service improves

Food ok, didn't seem as nice as normal. Waited over an hour between starter and main so didn't have enough time for our sweet which was included in the offer. Really cold so kept our coats on throughout our meal. Service was poor with no explanation for our wait or apology. Other customers left before their meal was served after waiting so long. Will not be going back

We had a very good Sunday roast, very good value and well cooked. The staff were friendly and efficient. We will go back.

Been coming to Sambucas for over 25 years. Mainly Heaton and North Shields Quay. We had the worst meal imaginable. Embarrased about complaining because the staff are so nice. What a shame

Visited last Sunday just a walk in had the Sunday lunch which I thought was a bit disappointing I had the beef and my partner had lamb. Beef looked like a min steak and lamb was mostly fat. Plus both plates were swimming in gravy. Would suggest they sever Gary separately as not every likes there dinner swimming in gravy. Good staff but I won't be using this place again

Best fish splatter/pizza, good menu.

Visited with family on a steak night, they ran out of Rib Eye and fillet which was unfortunate. Food served up was tasty, service was fine. Would return.

Delecious Italian that doesn't break the bank. From pastas to pizzas and steaks. And indulge yourself with some desert. All without breaking the bank - only at sambuca. These guys prices are extremely reasonable. And Delecious food. During lunch time, the lunch menu includes starter main and tea/coffee. Again very reasonably priced The deserts here are amazing. They don't serve deserts from Costco like some other restaurants (without making names). These ones are home made and are really tasty. Pizza is made in a wood burn oven.. Only improvement they need to do, is more variety for pizzas. And please calazone need to have tomato base...

We visited today for the 1st time and we had a great visit. Your staff were so brilliant with my two young boys! Even letting my 3yr old, make his own pizza! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Thank you so much! We will definitley be back!

Not as good as our previous 5 visits... 3 of us ventured in on a rather quiet Saturday lunchtime. We ordered a couple of lasagna's and a chicken della casa. The 2 lasagna's arrived first. A few minutes lapsed and the waitress mentioned my chicken would be a minute or so. I have to say this happened the last time we were here and it is not good. With only a couple of other tables populated in there it was poor timing again from the chef. The della casa was nice, but also very different from the past. Much less sauce. It only just surrounded the piece of chicken. It always has filled the circumference of the plate in the past. Nice flavour, but certainly no improvement. The hand cut chips came in a little basket, much smaller than the usual piece of crockery filled to the brim. I have to mention they should have been cooked a little longer also. The prices have also risen slightly so everything needs to be on the button going forward. I am not sure increasing prices and making portions smaller goes very well all done in one fell swoop. We will try a different sambuca the next time we go out on a Saturday due to these factors. Lasagna was nice, garlic bread was nice, chicken flavour was nice. Service off point that day unfortunately.

Came here the other day for lunch with my wife and son. Very warm welcoming atmosphere..I had the chicken soup for starters which was very nice the mains were just as nice as well.

We like Sambuca and go fairly often,we usually have the 3 course special which is excellent value,unfortunately last night we missed the cut off time and had to go with the full price menu,I have found we normally get a larger portion when paying full price for the single main meal ,however I was disappointed in last night the portion for my pasta was at best medium,my wife and I even swopped when I moan about it to her ,the meal was excellent, a woman did come and ask if everything was alright but my wife had already said don’t say anything,I will be going back but not after 5 ,

Pasta beautifully cooked, great pizza, lovely staff. Asked the waitress for the recipe of the chefs salad dressing (rare to get a good homemade one anywhere!). The chef came to the table, let me write it all down and was even kind enough to give me a batch to take home. Delish, and thank you! Will be back soon.

A most excellent place to come for lunch as we did. Very hospitable and the kitchen is very capable.

Another great meal. 3 of us visited here again, I think our 5th time this year. It is always very nice food. This time was no exception. It was the best we have had to date here. 3 chicken dishes, 2 x Diana and an au poivre. Delicious sauces and spot on chicken with chunky chips and veggies to accompany. Very nice staff who are attentive, yes it was quiet, but never the less they still have to be courteous and efficient, which they were. £48 was our bill for 2 large glasses of wine and a pint plus our 3 meals is excellent value for great quality food. Try it as I am sure you will like it here.

Originally called the Northumberland arms, or "Hills' ". My grandfather used to drink there. A very moving experience!

I visited this restaurant on the 27.08.23 at 13.15pm and it was very busy so I decided to eat my meal outside underneath an area with tables and chairs and I totally enjoyed my food the staff are always pleasant and friendly I ordered a Diet Coke and for a starter I ordered potato skins with two dips which were delicious I then had a roast pork dinner the piece of pork was lovely it falls apart like shredded pork when eating it the vegetables were also cooked lovely,this restaurant is a place that you definitely get value for money thank again for another wonderful meal 👍👌❤️

googled local restaurants whilst staying nearby at The Village Hotel. and what a find, Monday evening, just after 8, walked in,sat down, ordered, and ate! not dear and absolutely delicious, only fault, if any, was we got served too quick!

Always a guaranteed tasty meal! The guys serving us were great. So polite, helpful, kind and fun. Congratulations guy!

The food was good and, based on pizza's and pudding, value was second to none. We ate at 7pm, and not very busy. Not the atmosphere of PE but if you're hungry, and want to pay 1/2 the price for a freshly cooked (wood fired oven) pizza it's well worth considering.

Sunday lunch today Confused to say the least, first time I’ve had a meal served with the gravy on since school! and it was swimming. I had pork which was very tasty unfortunately half was actually soggy rind. Veg portioning very strange, we both had a kids size dollop of mash and swede and a minuscule portion of cabbage. I had 6 slices of carrot while my friend had 26? Roast potatoes well cooked but no flavour? Use the meat juices please. Very good portion of well cooked lamb for my friend I have to say. Even more confused when the table next to us had two lunches delivered for kids I’d say 7/8 that had more on? Overall very tasty but lacking consistency and finesse.

Good sized portions of tasty food at a good price (just over £30 for three courses and two pints).

The fish and chips are fantastic the batter was amazing dosed with the finest of salt and vinegar wrapped in real newspaper

Not the first time we have been, but will be the last because… Went for the 3-course special menu time and, to be honest, felt like a second rate customer. Food was lovely, however, customer service, not so much. At the start of our visit, things were fine. However, we were not offered Parmesan or black pepper, and were sitting underneath a speaker in a corner space and had to request three times for the music to be turned down as we could not hear each other speak. After our meal, we requested left over pizza to be boxed up to take away, and enjoyed a dessert. When the boxes arrived, they came with the bill which we had not yet requested. With drinks still to finish, we were relaxing and catching up in a fairly empty restaurant. Within ten minutes, another member of staff approached us asking if we wanted to pay by cash or card. We had no opportunity to decide if we would have liked another drink and this left us feeling like we were being ushered out. This was rude and unnecessary as there were many tables available. As a result, we will not return which is very sad as the restaurant is local and convenient and the food was delicious.

We arrived a little late for Sunday lunch. Myself I went for 3 course for £19.95. This included steak of my choice with either salad or chips. Mine salad. Previous I ordered starter brushetta mmm amazing. For sweet. profiteroles omg amazing accompanied with dollop of cream sauce and cut up strawberries mmm cleared my plates of all orders.. Service spot on my other two family members enjoyed there courses also. Daughter steak done to perfection as was asked of preference. Grandson pizza and seafood with spaghetti he couldn't get enough. All portions well sized. Would reccomend sambucas at West allotment not dingy like others we have visited. Will be returning.

The music was way too loud for an afternoon lunch. The canallioni said steak and spinach. It was mince and very little spinach. Still tasty but not what I expected.

1st visit - cheesy garlic bread, potato skins, calzone and steak stroganoff. Couple of beers and the new cocktail! The food was great and the portions were large - no way we could manage a dessert! The service was tip top - welcoming, helpful, pleasant and fun. Then to finish the bill was very reasonable - well recommended.

Really lovely food. We’re massive foodies and this gem was a pleasant surprise during our pit stop to Newcastle.

We were looking for a restaurant near by as we didn’t want a late night , we had walked past this place several times on previous visits to the Village . We reviewed it and it was getting great reviews so we ventured round , we were seated no problem and the staff were great . The food was great , I got a the fillet steak and garlic mushrooms and my partner had a chicken dish . Good value-for money , definitely be back!.

Whenever we're in Newcastle, no matter where we are staying overnight, we head to the Sambuca Braise for dinner. The Italian food is authentic, the kitchen is absolutely top notch - you can watch the chefs as they work (depending on where you sit) and you can see how very well organised they are. The quality of the food is outstanding and the value-for-money is too. We shared a garlic bread and both chose the Roma pasta dish, which was excellent. No faults, there never is.

Not the best Sunday dinner I've had but you can get 2 courses for 7.95 with a choice of potato skins or soup to start, and lamb, beef, pork or chicken for the main, overall it's very good value. Went back recently and they have increased their prices, I think it's 9.95 for 2 courses

We visited this restaurant on 30.04.23 for a Sunday Roast and thought the food was very good for a Sunday lunch,we have eaten at this restaurant quite a few times during the week but never for Sunday dinner we got two courses each, for our starters we had a minestrones soup and potatoes skins,for our main meals we ordered a roast chicken dinner and a roast belly pork dinner,we both said that it was ten out of ten everything was cooked absolutely perfect and the Lemon cheesecake and profiteroles were delicious too this is another restaurant that is great value for money well done to all the staff there thank you ❤️❤️👍👌

Needs a bit updating, bit shabby. Service was a bit off. We never got the special so paid full price ,the starters were shocking which we has to mention yo staff. They did refund one starter, so that was a positive.

I have no complaints with the food (which is always delicious) but we usually get a delivery and the past few times have been well over an hour when told maximum 45 minutes. Very disappointing when you have hungry children waiting for their tea

I have a regular check up at a Newcastle hospital and this place is now my go-to for an evening meal, when I've travelled up country the day prior to my appointment. Staff are superb, friendly and accommodating, but best of all they do their jobs so well. This time I opted for the mixed meat pizza. When you're in sight of the wood fired oven, you can't go wrong. Delicious food and drink at very reasonable prices.

Sunday roast was excellent and good value for the money.

Went for a party but not enough seats, not sure who was to blame, we took another table with another couple, had a fab two course meal. service was good & staff good. my only complaint would be when the waitress said seats were available in the other room now, the table was a mess, she could of cleaned it before moving us into the party room.

Very nice food the t bone is half a beast so be very hungry when you order it My steak was a little underdone but no prob cooked to perfection in the end

From a self confessed 'foodie' I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart this was the very best food and service iv experienced in a very long time. Had the surf n turf which was phenomenal xxx You would expect alot less for the bargain price. Literally outstanding food and excellent service from Maria and Angie. Couldn't resist inviting the chef out to thank him personally. Wish i could move this hidden gem closer to my home xxx I cannot speak higher of this restaurant if I tried. If I had to score it out of 10 it would get an 11 at least. Just WOW !!!!

A month or so ago we stayed at The Village Hotel and we ate there. It was so bad, so very, very bad. This stay, we checked TA and found this beauty just a 5 minute walk away. I had the spicy filet beef risotto and my wife had a pasta dish. The garlic bread we shared was divine, fresh out of the pizza oven. For every check up at The Freeman Hospital, we’ll be tripping over to Sambuca Braise for its delicious food and top quality service. We’re delighted to have solved the problem of where to eat when staying at The Village.
