Lovely welcoming pub with good value, tasty food and very well kept beer! My wife especially liked the homemade Bakewell tart. We stopped in room number two, which is wonderfully quirky. A very comfortable bed led to a very good night's sleep! Joy and Godfrey are superb hosts. All in all a great start to our Wedding anniversary celebrations! Would thoroughly recommend for a short break away!

Booked room 2 upstairs and had a lovely stay! Arrived late and had no problems checking in, was shown straight to our room by Godfrey who was so friendly and helpful. Owners and locals made our stay great, all so welcoming! The room was cosy, clean and stocked with extra toiletries and breakfast food if needed. Would book again, hopefully return next year :) Massive thanks again to Joy, Godfrey and locals Gary & family

Hosts brilliant - but food straight from the freezer. Surrounded by Red Hart Blaisden, Glasshouse, Penny Farthing, Farmers Boy etc the food needs to be upped considerably to get repeat business. Love the pub and hosts - but won't eat there again

Was staying at a nearby cottage - the owners accommodated a party of 12 on a Sunday afternoon. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Everyone enjoyed their meal and there was a great selection as well as good local ales and a really nice craft beer! Friendly staff and regulars - wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Will definitely be back - thanks for being here so accommodating.

This is our local but we haven't eaten here since it changed hands to Joy and Godfrey. The food was delicious. I had the brie to start and the roast beef for my main, then a sundae for dessert. All of it was well cooked, and beautifully presented and to top it off the service was all with a smile. The changes at the Red Lion make it almost unrecognisable, it's a lovely pub and Joy and Godfrey are so welcoming, it feels like you've come home. We are heading there again tonight !

Recently changed hands & we were keen to check out the new Red Lion. It has always been a lovely pub with lots of events & it looks like this will continue to be the case. Very friendly atmosphere which is pleasing to see. We both had the ribeye steak - perfectly cooked with plenty of accompaniments, delicious. Will definitely keep coming back. Top marks Joy & Godfrey 😁

We visited here on New Year’s Eve from about 4-7pm. Although a local pub, we felt very welcome. The landlord spoke about some of the decor that he had brought over from Africa which was a highlight. As a couple camping, I thought it was a nice touch that there was a range of sanitary products available in the ladies bathroom, alongside various hand creams and moisturisers - it was much appreciated and a nice touch. Would recommend.

5 stars all round. Arrived before 2.30pm start of service. Made very welcome and we sat with our friends in the lovely bar area in front of the log burner. The cook was asked to come in a bit earlier to start our meal, which she did with a smile 10/10. We had the Sri Lanka Turkey curry and wow wow wow the taste buds were ignited. What a way to spend an afternoon with our best friends, we will certainly be back. Well done all at the Red Lion 😊

From start to finish we felt very welcome at the Red Lion, Huntley. Our experience started yesterday when I popped in to find if the pub did Sunday lunch. The staff, but especially Joy, were very helpful and I ended up booking a table for 10, (including a baby and eight year old. Today we had an amazing 3- course roast dinner. The food was well prepared and cooked and there was plenty to eat for everyone!! Even the children's portions were of a good size. The staff were very accommodating and even brought extra potatoes, Yorkshire puds and crackling for the more hungry amongst us!! Thank you to Joy and all of the Red Lion team - a very enjoyable and memorable meal!! The Forsey Family

Have given 1 star as the staff were friendly. Starters of garlic mushrooms, were in fact breaded mushrooms with a garlic mayo dip, that didn't appear to have any garlic it. I had fish and chips which were ok, usual pub grub type of thing. So 1 star for those. Hubby had salmon and dill fishcake, which he didn't eat as they were very clearly "off" and tasted bitter and were pretty disgusting. The mash that accompanied his main meal was lumpy and tasteless. He had ordered a side of coleslaw at £2 and it was in a pot that literally held 1 spoonful. We didn't finish our mains and left pretty sharpish. However, as I said the staff were friendly, so I did leave a tip! Won't be returning when next in the area. Would suggest travellers try the glasshouse Inn at Huntley (5 mins drive away,) where we had a wonderful meal the previous evening.

The pub has loads of history to it and two roaring fires , great pint of Local Ale then hard decision of what to have for lunch as menu was great and had entire page for veggies. Both our meals were very good and reasonable. Large beer garden for sunny days and play area for kids outside. Lovely friendly Lady served us and ideal for quick lunch or a leisurely meal before or after a good walk as the countryside was very pretty locally and decent bus service too .

We recently stayed in Huntley as a large group for my wife's 40th birthday and visited the Red Lion pub just for drinks as unfortunately the chef was unwell on the date we visited. It's a small pub but really comfortable and welcoming. I particularly wanted to say how wonderful the lady behind the bar was though as she really went out of her way to make my wife feel special, playing 'happy birthday' several times and really making the whole group welcome. Thank you 😊😊

I would thoroughly recommend the Red Lion, Huntley. If you enter the building from the back there are a few steps which could use some yellow paint for the those with sight impairment. We had dinner here for the first time and were a little disappointed. The restaurant was previously a pool table room and it hasn't yet had the lighting sorted to resemble any ambience in a room with such a high ceiling. Friendly staff, only there needs to be a few more, and a rather bland menu of plain food which is mostly well cooked, the spoiler was coleslaw with the tang of a plastic container and salad that could have been fresher. Only rated as average and could be better.

We were camping just down the road from this pub at Forest Gate camp site which is fab by the way, and instead of cooking decided to walk down and eat here. We had a lovely meal and puddings on the Friday night and said to our host that we'd probably be back the next night. We did return however were told they weren't serving food as they had a private function on. We were fairly annoyed as they had not mentioned this the previous night. The next nearest eating place was about a mile down the road so with an alcoholic drink already consumed and young child in tow we ended up giving him a piggy back their and a taxi home to the tent! Our taxi driver didn't really have a good word to say about the running of the red lion either.

Decided to give the food one more go as the Landladies and staff are very friendly but overall the pub is in need of a good clean nothing sparkling here. Only one beer on the real ale pumps always a sign. Should have taken the hints but ........ I have never been served a lasagne and beef stroganoff like it. Stayed in Alvington while seeing Tom Jones in Chepstow. Lovely little pub. Classic proper pub. Vintage decor, nice and cosy. Pool table and darts board. Staff were really nice. The little restaurant is on the other side of the building so it doesn’t feel like a gastro pub. Had food there as well a couple of times. Jackson the waiter was nice and polite. Only a young lad. Hope it doesn’t change. Need more classic pubs like this. Really nice place.

We spent a family holiday in Gloucestershire over the half term break and had booked another local restaurant for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately we’d been let down as our booking hadn’t been taken properly however they did us a big favour as we then phoned The Red Hart who were able to accommodate 9 of us for Sunday lunch at very short notice, our ages ranging from 17 to 87! We returned for dinner a few evenings later. I would highly recommend it!

My husband and I both had severe diarrhoea soon after our meal on Saturday 21 September. He took over 5 days to recover as he actually finished his lamb rump whereas I left half my steak and ale pie and was ill for 2 days. Emailed through The Quality Inn response page to make them aware so they could clean up their kitchen and food preparation. They did not even have the curtesy to reply. What are they afraid of - responding is an admission of guilt? If they ignore us, we might go away? … Shame on you. Beware when visiting the White Hart Inn, Broadoak, Newnham.
