Fab food had a smashing lamb roast dinner, no skimping on the meat. Had the black pudding scotch egg very nice, slight comment I thought the pepper sauce over powered the scotch egg slightly would be nice with a holandaice sauce

My Mother visited recently and she managed to lose her engagement ring through the decking - goodness knows how!! They went out of their way to get their maintenance man in and lifted up the decking to retrieve her ring and didn't charge her anything. I know where I'll be going next time there's a big family do! Thank you :)

What a great find. Wanted somewhere to stop off on a trip from east to west England. This was the only place we found still serving food after 6.00pm on a Sunday. So pleased the others couldn’t help us as the food here was superb. As was the waiting staff and chef. Lovely rear terrace to enjoy the meal on, including a small fountain-fed pool to relax next to watching the carp.

Lovely place with very good food. The portions were extremely generous, and service was attentive. However, I'd say Sunday lunch time is clearly one of their most hectic, so leisurely would be the last word to describe the atmosphere. The menu is very extensive and people around us were obviously choosing some of the more exotic offerings... However we wanted a Sunday roast and we were not disappointed.

I visited yesterday, upon realising it was a dog friendly venue- to enjoy a drink & a snack. The garden area looked lovely, newly refurbished and with a relaxing atmosphere. The staff were very attentive, especially Rob who not only served myself with a smile but also paid extra attention to my dog- offering treats and fuss galore. I will definitely be returning!

Firstly I will say that we have dined here on a number of times without any problems. Unfortunately not on this occasion - about 30 seconds after we sat down we were asked about drinks, not having time to look at the drinks menu. We asked for a couple of minutes to look but it was a good 20 minutes before anyone returned. The starters were generally good, apart from the muscles were slightly over cooked. The deserts were excellent, but there were issues with the main course. The beef was cold when it arrived at the table and the chicken supreme was dried up and inedible. These were sent back immediately. Unfortunately chicken supreme that had been replaced was again dry and inedible (maybe nit cutting up the chicken into stripe would help). Overall the meal was acceptable but there is room for improvement for staff training and preparation of the dishes. Hopefully this is constructive criticism which will be taken on board.

Not a budget option, but the Red Lion definitely offers value for money nonetheless! Lunch cost myself, my wife and 2 granddaughters (5yrs and one) over £80, but the food was fantastic, drinks excellent and the staff were great. This is a pub where you get what you pay for, even beef and octopus burgers (really) which I've not tried, but I'd recommend the haddock. It was like a whale laying across my delicious chips and the batter was light, thin and crispy, and the peas and especially the homemade tartar sauce are game chargers. Recommended, but remember that mains start at about £20 each...

We booked a Sunday lunch. Didn't realise it was a fixed price. You had to have 2 or 3 courses .The staff wasn't overly friendly or chatty. We were asked to leave as the table was booked for more people waiting at the bar and we were over charged on the bill. The waitress couldn't work the bill out and said just pay what you think you should pay.

Food has got better since the new owners took over a couple of years ago but the prices have gone up too. Whereas this was once a place to go regularly it's now more of a special occasion place due to the prices. Paying over £6 for a lager around these parts is very expensive.

we went on a Sunday as it was our anniversary around one thirty, sat in the glass room at a wobbly table right by the door and sun shinning constantly in my eyes whilst eating making the experience from a 5 to a 3 especially since two other tables were free. based on that i would return for the food but would leave straight away if that was the only table available again paying £105.00 for the meal for two. The food we couldn't fault it one bit was tasty right amount and well presented, as far a food pub its defiantly above a lot of your traditional pubs. The service we received from the ladies was friendly and attentive.

Decent table in the corner of the conservatory. Table for 4 on a Saturday lunchtime in early December. Starters took an absolute age to arrive. No comment on that from the staff. I had the crab cakes. They were like 3 burnt tiny pellets sourced from a catering supplier ready made. Main course steak was cooked to medium rare as requested. However the sirloin was not remotely tender and totally lacked seasoning. The onion ring was decent but the chips were frozen so not sure how that fits with the description on the menu. I raised the issue of the burnt crab cakes with the chap that took the plates away and the only response was he'd tell the chef. Booked this on the back of the Google reviews and left somewhat disappointed and surprised. This place is not cheap and the crab cakes were a shocker for the price.

Food was fantastic, expensive for a village pub, we went on a Sunday so 3 out of 4 of us had the roast dinner, the other had a burger, he said it tasted good but was only warm not hot, he asked the waitress to pop it in the microwave she did offer him another but he declined saying he just wanted it warmer, she was a little cool herself after that saying the chef did probe test it. We all had deserts which were also very good. We would go again but would have to save up first. The lamb and the pork are my recommendations. Try it you wont be sorry, very noisy in the conservatory but then it was very busy.

We like The Red Lion for a Dad & Son beer fairly regularly. Sort of irregular regulars!! It's a very pleasant pub which does good food and has a great selection of well-kept beers on tap. There's always something going on here...They are part of the small Greedy Gordons Group of pub/restaurants. For drivers, there is also a good selection of low alcohol beers, which makes a very welcome change from soft drinks or shandy. A pub to feel comfortable in yet a place aiming for a good reputation, food and service wise. Staff are always polite and helpful. Worth trying if you don't know it.

I’m regretfully putting 3 stars! But first let me tell you why.. And it’s not because of the food! That was AMAZING! Best roast I have ever had. So on a Sunday it’s a minimum of 2 courses for £30.00. We go to pay and they haven’t applied this they have charged meal and dessert separately. Which is a bit of a cheek considering you have to have the Sunday deal.. when we questions it instead of “sorry I’ll check” we got “no that’s how it is, the deal is applied” - in fact it wasn’t as it didn’t total to £120 (4 people) it was on there for £135.. Any how she went off got it changed came back didn’t apologise, just blonked the bill on the table and walked off. Also to have spent over £160 in there (children meals and drinks) the service was extremely poor! We ordered 1 round at the start which took over 15 minutes to come then not once did we get asked if we’d like another drink, even when all glasses were empty. Now paying them kind of prices I’d have liked to have had much better service. Unfortunately this puts a bad taste in my mouth and a shame as I said the food was outstanding. I’m not sure on the above basis we would go back.

Warm and friendly enough atmosphere. Staff have good attitude. My problem was the food wasn't half as nice as it seemed to want to be. The pudding took forever to arrive and considering there was only ONE it was incredibly disappointing. And to top it off got charged full price for the wait. It looked like nothing more than brownie cubes from a sainsbury's tub and a lump of ice cream with some m and m's. It was a 40th birthday and 9 year anniversary lunch for 2 and I'd rather have stayed at home for what this cost.

Once the bill came we had to ask for a discount for the inconvenience as 1 person had finished meal before the rest came back and to be fair they did deduct 2 meals As people have to book way in advance as meals sevice etc are usually excellent it has now made us and all our families think twice about coming back.
