The Red Hart Inn in Forest of Dean

We spent a family holiday in Gloucestershire over the half term break and had booked another local restaurant for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately we’d been let down as our booking hadn’t been taken properly however they did us a big favour as we then phoned The Red Hart who were able to accommodate 9 of us for Sunday lunch at very short notice, our ages ranging from 17 to 87! We knew the pub previously having spent several family holidays at Blaisdon Hall as kids. The staff at The Red Hart were really welcoming, it’s a great little country pub and the food was amazing. We returned for dinner a few evenings later. I would highly recommend it!

Great local pub in a lovely village. Really friendly and efficient staff and the food is great value. Good drinks choices. Beer garden looks nice and plenty big enough, tho we couldn't make use of it due to rain. Cosy and the food was really nice.

This pub is a treasure hidden away in a beautiful village on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean. The service and food are excellent. We had the samosas as a starter, with main courses of ribs and ploughman’s lunch; everything was delicious and of a high quality. The staff were friendly and provided great service The grounds are beautiful, the atmosphere calm and peaceful. We were fortunate to be able to it outside on a glorious summers day. It is also dog friendly, which our pooch enjoyed. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Very disappointed with my meal tonight at the Red Heart Inn in Blaisdon. My Husband had the Chicken Dish, he said it was nice. I chose the Beer Battered Cod. Which looked OK on arrival, however, The Beer Batter was undercooked in the middle, and made the fish very milky and wet, the mushy peas were cold, the chips around the fish were well done, however the undercooked fish had been placed on top of the main of the chips which had made them soggy. I told both the waitress, and the owner, who did apologise, but that was all. We had read the reviews and thought it would be one to try, but we certainly will not be trying again. Pamela Wood

Fitted us in last minute which was great, not been for a while and had a great meal. Staff were very friendly, lovely atmosphere. Has traditional pub food plus a little bit extra with some home cooked Indian food which was lovely can highly recommend the samosas yum.

Fabulous curry night enjoyed by all in our party. Curry was top class, deliciously fresh and aromatic. When is the next specials night?!!! Lovely village pub atmosphere with welcoming staff and locals. Really can’t thank you all enough for a very enjoyable evening. 🤩

Second time we have visited. First was as a couple and it was fantastic service, amazing fish and chips! Second time we went recently with two out of three of the kids and it was very family friendly, good sized kids portions, great play area outside to run around. Friendly and accommodating will visit again!

To celebrate Holi, the Festival of Colour, The Red Hart held a special Indian Feast night. We started with a wonderful Dahi Sev Puri, a little crispy puffed ball packed with creamy & tangy flavours - I could have eaten these all night! For starters, my partner had a lovely spicy lamb mince kebab & I had the samosas which came with a chickpea curry, & for our mains we chose the butter chicken accompanied with a smoky black lentil dhal & flatbread, & a lamb curry with a side of spiced potatoes. Everything was very tasty & beautifully spiced. I especially liked that there were dishes that we had never come across before & would have loved it if a taster menu of all the dishes had been available. The puddings were a great end to a wonderful meal. Great food, service & atmosphere - what's not to like!!

Just left The Red Harts Holi Festival of Colour. The menu was exciting with lots of variety. It started with the best mouthful of food I have had for a very long time. The Dahi Sev Puri was extraordinarily superb. The rest of the meal was so gorgeous. Packed full of flavour and wonderfully balanced. I had eaten so much good stuff that I had to ask for the puddings to take home for later. They were equally enjoyed. The waiting staff were friendly and courteous, and always helpful. Made for a very pleasant vibe. Once again, a fantastic night out at one of the best pubs around.

Had a small family get together for my 70th Birthday party. Lovely evening, food and service were excellent and the hosts and staff were superb. We were made very welcome and they provided everything we asked for and more. We will certainly visit again. Thank you so much.

We enjoyed a superb meal this here this evening. The staff were so friendly, and the chicken and lamb curries were delicious. We finished the meal off with desserts, which were also superb. Such a convenient place, given that out BnB was literally across the road. Why go any further afield?!

Mum held her 90th birthday party here. She decided to have a birthday tea and invited 23 friends and family. Sharon and her team listened to mum's preferences regarding food and seating, were so helpful, putting up the banners and balloons. Everything was perfect. The tea was delicious, the sandwiches and scones were divine and don't get me started on the individual cakes. We also had little scotch eggs and sausage rolls, all on proper tiered cake stands. Tea and coffee was served throughout. Thank you Sharon and your team. We made a lot of happy memories. A special thank you to "The Help"!

Honestly, disappointed especially after previous meals the place has lost its lustre so glad it wasn't an occasion would have walked when the starter came out

Everything very average for the price, apart from the service and my friends fish looked good and plentiful. Although throwing cutlery on the table at you might not be everyone's idea of nice service! Don't bother with the currys. Not a great choice of beers and none of them were very local, as far as I could see. The three I had were very similar. It's not just this pub - our local food standards seem to have dropped this year.

Wonderful local. Great pub grub, friendly staff and it’s obviously loved by the locals. It was freezing during our few days stay at the local B&B so it was lovely to walk in and sit by the wood burner. Would highly recommend. We didn’t book a table but it was busy so would recommend booking.

My daughter and I visited this pub a few months ago. We had heard that the food could be a bit of a hit-and-miss affair. However on this occasion we had a lovely meal. We met the proprietor who seemed a very pleasant chap. Last Sunday we went for lunch 7 of us. Well. Unfortunately, on this particular day it was definitely a miss. The Turkey was very good, but unfortunately a couple ordered roast beef which was tough and hard to eat. 1 person did not eat her meal at all. Roast potatoes were hard and the roast parsnips done to a crisp. A very tiny sausage in a small piece of bacon and a tiny round ball of stuffing was what constituted the trimmings. My son in law ordered a latte, which was weak watery and undrinkable. My daughter and I ordered Irish coffee which was weak, watery, very sweet and the cream on top had been sprayed out of an aerosol can, it was horrible. When paying the bill I met the proprietor for the first time since the initial occasion when all had been so good. I mentioned how disappointed we were with the meal and what the problems were and I was met with complete indifference, no apology and certainly no refund. Hard to believe that this was the same person! Sometimes it's not what goes wrong it's how things are dealt with when they do go wrong. The waiting staff were lovely and helpful but on the basis of hit and miss, I need to go to a pub where the proprietor actually cares about his customers and is there to put things right if things go wrong? Shall never go back and I live locally.

We stopped here for lunch and it was lovely. The chap behind the bar was chatty and friendly and the waitress was super. The food was great, we both had a sandwich and they came with the most amazing chips! Will definitely be stopping here again!

We had a brilliant evening here. The menu was different from the last time we visited and I ordered falafel to start and my partner had the crispy beef. Both were lovely, good portion sizes and well presented. The mains were very good. Belly pork and Mac and cheese. The max and cheese came with salad and garlic bread, both were lovely and the GB was homemade. My partner loved the pork, it was perfectly cooked. We had the rugby on so the atmosphere was great and all of the staff are lovely. Really happy to chat and interact - suggesting nice drinks etc. Really would recommend and we are looking forward to coming back.

After a good walk with all the family this was a great pub to relax in and enjoy the lovely food. The menu is extensive has great vegetarian options, portions for children and is beautifully served. Great play area for children and outside tables. Highly recommend for Sunday lunch.
