I came here for the first time with a friend so everything was new for us. First thoughts was that it is a lovely looking restaurant. We sat down and weren’t sure what to order so were taking our time and our server, Callie, was so patient with us. Very kind and chatty girl making us feel comfortable and not rushed. Food was delicious and will definitely come here again!

We enjoyed a lovely meal for a birthday celebration. A beautiful pub/restaurant with a lovely gentle atmosphere. Emma looked after us very well and when we did have a little bit of a wait she came to apologise, she was great. The only thing I would request is old fashioned custard to go with some of the desserts. Not a deal breaker but it would be a good extra. We will definitely be returning customers.

We went for our wedding anniversary and asked to be seated somewhere quiet. Even though most were seated separate from each other we really appreciated the effort they made to find an even more quiet area for us in their stunning dining room. A place I would recommend for the beauty of the place, for the impeccable service and more importantly for the great food. Best pub I visited in Britain.

Took our friends out for a meal to celebrate their recent wedding and were having a nice time until my friend noticed a rat in the dining area of the restaurant. Unfortunately I’m deeply afraid of them so ran out. My partner stayed to pay the bill (on which no discount was offered or applied). The staff popped a little piece of wood over the hole and seemed completely unsurprised by the rat. None of this bodes well and I will not be visiting again. Thankfully the rat merged in with the dark wood quite well and we were at the end of our meal. Appreciate that we are in the countryside and might see the odd mouse but a rat the size of my handbag is far from okay. A shame as this was one of my favourite pubs in the area

A beautiful venue, ideal for weddings or celebrations. On a beautiful sunny day the outside area would be delightful, but tables looked as though they could do with some attention. Unfortunately, we were unlucky with the beef sandwiches we had and they had to be returned as the meat was too tough, bread was lovely and the chips yummy. Had the chicken snitzel as a replacement, which seemed like prepacked shop bought. Although 1st visit disappointing, we loved the venue and our complaint was dealt with to our satisfaction. Will give them a second chance, maybe for an evening meal. Outside, a smoking area should be provided, as not nice having smoke wafting when eating.

Myself and my friend visited the restaurant last night and we were really disappointed. We booked a table for 7 o’clock and there was only one other table in there. We ordered about 7.15 and still had no food at 8 o’clock, at this point we were the only table in there. I chased up where our food was to be told it hadn’t been put through and the kitchen was closed. We eventually got our food which was fine but how could they forget when we were the only table in there! The mains were taken off the bill and we did have pudding. It felt like it was a hassle us being there. It’s such a shame as the pub is lovely!

A very beautiful setting with a lovely atmosphere. Clean and tables spaced out comfortably. Service was very friendly. We didn’t feel rushed but equally felt any matter was attended to quickly. The deduction here (and I hope the management will read this and take it constructively) is the food. Ordered 3x “300g” rump steaks at £28.50 a plate and the steak was no way 300g (10oz). So because you’ve been sold something you’re expecting a big portion but it’s not that is very disappointing . Management need to review this offering and change the menu to reflect true size and also consider bumping up the offering to make this better value for money (mushrooms? Onion rings? Garlic bread even) Lamb shank was tender and tasty but again the portion overall was small, also not as advertised with smashed potatoes being halved new potatoes pan fried/baked - no smashing involved and at that you only got the equivalent of 2 baby potatoes. Again tasty but I still felt hungry after which is not expected for £23.50. We regretted not ordering the fish and chips which looked much better when passing to other tables. Puddings are £7 a pop. The puddings ordered were nice and enjoyed by our party. 12pc service charge added so bear this in mind that what is already very expensive is added to (although the service itself deserved the tip). Would I return? Yes, but I would be cautious about what I ordered.

Beautiful looking pub but I'd only return for drinks unless it was very quiet. Visited on a Sunday and it was busy with what seemed like not enough staff around. The £10 calamari starter was delicious but the serving was so small (3 tiny pieces). Goats cheese starter was good. Our mains took over an hour to arrive and we had to chase. The lamb shank was overcooked, dry and didn't fall off the bone. At £28 it should be cooked correctly. Think it may have been left beneath a heat lamp for too long. One of the cheeseburgers was incorrectly served and should have been kids but was adult sized (and they tried to charge for an adults burger when the bill came). It strangely arrived with just lettuce in it too so returned it for it to be returned with the other fillings but this time with the cheese missing so gave up after this and after waiting for over an hour, my child went without the cheese. Adult burger came with just chips and no side salad/coleslaw or anything extra which is fine if you're not paying premium prices but we were. No condiments offered. The food was served and they disappeared before we could request anything. Had to get up to find somebody. Bill came with no offer of any discount and the service charge was on it still. I explained the issues and a member of staff went away, removed the lamb and adjusted the bill to change from adult to child's burger but no real apology or explanation. The service charge was still on the bill too. All pretty disappointing.

Delicious roast lunch and very good service. The only negative was that we were sat in large armchairs, which seemed a little bizarre! We had to sit on a cushion towards the front of the seat in order to try and find a comfortable eating position. I think the armchairs would be more suitable for snacks at the fireside, but that’s just a minor quibble. We look forward to returning time and again.

Dish up starters then tell you they've run out of one. Offer an on the house starter, then 30 mins later tell you they've run out of that one FFS!!! 90 mins after entering the restaurant still waiting for main course. ABYSMAL doesn't come close!!!! Eventually the main courses arrived. 1hr 40min after arrival and the threat of us walking out. These were luke warm, and so overcooked it was an insult to dish them up. Not a pleasant experience. We were very excited to attend this restaurant; however, our food wasn’t up to standards. For the high price, we only got one slice of meat each, 1 sometimes 2 potatoes (there were 9 of us and only 2 of us got parsnips), it wasn’t a filling meal for a roast. We also wasn’t informed there wasn’t horseradish until we got our (Beef) roast meal. We had ordered the cauliflower cheese side which was served as a whole cauliflower which was impossible to serve. The meal was look warm and we didn’t receive the extra gravy requested. We got charged for 2 more beers that we didn’t receive. Overall, an unfortunate experience for such a highly rated restaurant.

It wasn't good. The venue itself is lovely. I thought the menu was very limited. We were greeted at the table to be told what was not available. That was okay we could pick around that but there wasn't much to choose from. The 'while you wait' nibbles are good and I should have picked those for my main meal. They didn't even have mayo to go with burger and fries. What pub doesn't have a jar of Mayo. Over priced and disappointing.

I took my wife to The Red Barn for an impromptu date night and I won't be going again. The service was slow as it took an age for drinks to be brought over and ice was included in the soft drinks when I politely asked prior for no ice (I asked twice). My wife's starter came out a good ten minutes before mine...why? The calamari was very rubbery and I did not enjoy it at all. The lamb shank was adequate at best and certainly not what I would expect for £28.50! The pub itself is lovely and that's why I chose to go there. I went there earlier the same day for lunch with a friend and the service was even slower. I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and arrange for dinner later that evening with my wife...I really wish I hadn't. We will not be coming back. I am glad that the discretionary service charge wasn't added to the bill or I would've asked for it to be removed! Something I have never done before.

Disappointing Decline in Standards I recently visited The Red Barn in Lingfield with friends to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience from start to finish. Atmosphere and Service: When we arrived, the restaurant was less than half full, yet several tables hadn’t been cleared. This immediately set a poor tone. Our waitress greeted us by announcing that multiple dishes were unavailable, and there were no specials on offer—surprising for a Saturday evening. Service throughout the evening was slow and disorganised. We waited a long time to order both drinks and food. Plates from our starters weren’t cleared before the mains arrived, and when we requested clean cutlery, a rather unfriendly waitress dumped a handful onto the table without any effort to set it properly. Drinks had to be requested multiple times, and in the end, I gave up waiting for water and fetched it myself from the bar. Food Quality: The food was underwhelming and not reflective of the restaurant’s usual standards. The starters were tiny portions, and the mains, while tasting acceptable, were unappealing in presentation. I ordered a venison burger, which was very dry and came with overcooked potato wedges. For the price, the dish looked pitiful, and the absence of any chicken dishes on the menu seemed odd. Overall Experience: After finishing our mains, plates were left uncleared for over 40 minutes, prompting us to pile them onto an adjacent table ourselves. To add to the disappointment, they had run out of milk, so tea and coffee weren’t even an option. Although we raised our concerns about the poor service and food quality, and the bill was adjusted, it was disheartening to see a place that used to be a firm favourite fall so far in standards. Conclusion: What should have been a celebratory evening turned into a frustrating experience. The combination of slow service, unprofessional staff, and subpar food has left me questioning whether I’ll return. I hope they take these issues seriously and work to bring The Red Barn back to its former glory.

Beautiful barn with with lots space. Great drinks menu. Service however was very slow today. 35 minutes to receive starters made up of bread soup and scotch eggs which were black in parts with eggs hard boiled so overcooked. The roast beef was good. Venison burger overcooked and came with large wedges but no salad or coleslaw? For £19 that's pretty outrageous. Overall it's as expensive as Botley Hilly and The Haycutter but no where near as good food wise. Shame as it's a beautiful venue

***UPDATED REVIEW*** The last few times we have eaten here, the food has been really disappointing. It saddens me to write this because this was my favourite country pub and recommended to family and friends who went off the back of my recommendation and said the food was terrible. Service really slips when they have events on. Bar staff don’t seem as friendly. :( —————————— The Red Barn is our favourite country pub! Often go for drinks by the open fireplace or slouch on the comfortable sofas. Most pubs these days aren’t cosy and filled with just restaurant seating. The Red Barn has space for everything; Restaurant, bar, cosy seating indoors, undercover outdoor area with heaters, big un-covered grass area with burger van - it’s quite impressive! The staff have always been very friendly and polite. I tried food for the first time, it was so flavoursome and good quality, however, the menu didn’t show any gluten free options so the waitress bought over a big folder for us to work out ourselves - found it quite strange as vegan/vegetarian options were labelled. Other than that, can’t fault it. Looking forward to visiting during the summer months out in the garden!

Great location, we’ve been many times and it’s never disappointed before. We didn’t get to be seated in the barn which was a shame, and the area we had was a bit lifeless. All 3 of us had the beef roast plus some extra cauliflower cheese - the Yorkshires were overdone, the potatoes a bit anaemic, and there was only minimal veg on the plate. The beef was inedible, really poor quality. The dessert (apple crumble) was excellent. Overall, a disappointing meal, though we will no doubt try again, probably a busy day and bad timing.

Great atmosphere , had a very cosy seat by the fire place. We all went for the roast. However a lot of the beef served was not fit for consumption. Very tough and not able to cut let alone chew. No one around to ask to swap and no one checked on us to see if the food was okay. Manager removed it from the bill when we did get to let the staff know however dinner was finished at this point. They might have been unlucky with the cut of beef, but someone could have checked in after serving or at least have someone around, this let down the otherwise really good service throughout. Finally the food was good but not amazing, and overpriced with all things considered. I wouldn’t come here for a roast again, much better out there, but great place for a drink. I would come back to try a different menu to give it another chance and hopefully have a better experience.

Christmas Day ruined. From the moment we walked in the door today I knew we had made the wrong decision. The table was booked for 3:30 pm, from the moment we turned up staff seem flustered and no one had time to talk to us. 30 minute wait to be seated. The table wasn’t set, no wine glasses. We ordered 3 bottles of wine (one of which was corked) we were given the glasses and no one offered to help pass them out or even pour any of the drinks. The canopies came out, which were stale and hard. Onto the starters, The scallops were in edible and tasteless, and still raw in the centre. I brought up with a manager that they seemed microwaved which he did deny, but the starters had to be sent back. The sorbet turned up late, so to say they were a “Pallet cleanser” 45 minutes after the inedible starter was laughable. By this point, we had still seen no staff other than the flustered, upset looking members putting dishes in front of us. No more drinks orders were taken. It was when the mains came out that the meal became an utter joke. The table behind us clapped when their meals eventually arrived, which was received by a huge impatient laugh by the entire room. The mains are utterly and inedible, there was a mixture of old cold food, some plates were missing elements. There was no pigs in blankets as described on the menu and the roast potatoes were overcooked rocked. The Yorkshire puds were flat, which was the least of our concerns. The entire day was an absolute shambles and utterly disappointing. We all paid over £120 EACH for this, mind you we wait all year for Christmas and trust that the restaurant you have chosen provides a lovely day, this was an utter joke.

I've eaten many good meals at the Red Barn. This was not one of them. In fact it was one of the worst meals I have eaten anywhere! 2 half chickens were ordered and arrived undercooked, the flesh pink and barely warm (certainly not 72°) and were sent back. A portion of mac'n cheese arrived cold and was returned, ditto a side of greens. No catering establishment gets it right all the time, but undercooked chicken is a salmonella hazard and suggests a lack of care and supervision in the kitchen. The bill arrived still showing one half chicken and at my insistence this was removed together with the discretionary service charge. I should add that 2 of the party are professional chefs and at least one other table expressed dissatisfaction to their 'server'. To make matters worse, it was my 80th birthday celebration. The Red Barn is an attractive venue with its log fire in the centre of the main barn area but in spite of the number of people there, the noise levels were more than acceptable to us all. Unlikely to be the last time that we enjoy Christmas day with you!

My second visit to the Red Barn in December including Boxing Day, the service and atmosphere lovely but the food rather disappointing. In particular little choice for a vegetarian who does not like plant based food. My fault should have studied the menu in more detail!

Greeting was poor, you could tell no one wanted to be there as it was Boxing Day. Menu was limited was told there was no pie as we were about to order. The half chickens were raw and not hot, was told they were cooked fresh but you could tell they were re-heated. Mac and cheese was cold too. Really spoiled the meal, have been many times and always been good but unfortunately won’t be returning anymore.

Disaster of a Christmas meal, every dish awful and took over 3 hours and didn’t even get the last 2 courses. Was a huge queue of people lining up to complain. Disgraceful Xmas showing

It saddens me to say that what used to be my favourite restaurant has really gone downhill and I doubt I will be going there again.

Sadly our second visit was disappointing. The food was not as good as the first time. My husbands steak was not medium rare as requested the meat dripped with blood, the chips were not crispy and many gray bits. My chicken pie was overcooked and somehow burnt inside the crust!. The last visit the food was exquisite 👌. We even sent our compliments to the chef. Sadly this time the standard was not as good. As for the atmosphere , we were there on a Saturday and a large family with very unruly children and adults made our experience stressful. The foul language was managed very well by the staff who were lovely. We could not fault them at all. If we go again we will not go of a weekend. We cut our evening short. The staff did offer compensation for the food but we declined and left early.

Food good, service good , be careful with Wine menu. We were charged £75 for a bottle of wine that retails at £16 !!! Not on their main wine list but the reserve and this was not pointed out. Manager unhelpful !

The barn restaurant looked so beautiful, decorated for Xmas with a lovely fire going too. Sadly the food was not up to the same standard. One of us ordered steak which was served up lukewarm on a cold plate and the chosen sauce had obviously been refrigerated so did not melt onto the steak thus making it even colder. The food presentation as poor, no garnish and all very plain. The service was friendly enough but lacking in training, ie no napkins offered & we had to ask for condiments & steak knife. No ice in drinks. Desert was awful, apple crumble all watery and not hot, ice cream on top which didn’t melt as it wasn’t warm enough. Tasteless. We asked for custard and were told everyone asks for it but they don’t have it. If everyone asks for it surely you should get some in to be able to offer what customers want?? Shame as the place looked so lovely but we won’t be returning.

Unfortunately the food was average. One dish came out with half the ingredients missing. One dish the lettuce was limp and not crispy which it should be in a Caesar salad. They had run out of garlic butter at this was at a lunchtime sitting so clearly hadn’t prepped enough. Good took a long time to come out of the kitchen too. They only cleared half our plates from the table and then got distracted. We got fed up looking at our plates so we moved them to a spare table. We asked for the dessert menu twice it still did not come. So we asked for the bill. This came but then they did not come back to let us pay so I had to go up to the bar to pay. When you are spending between £200-£300 on a meal for a family you do not expect the above. Extremely disappointed. They definitely need to up their game in the kitchen and at front of house. Such a shame as has huge potential. Unfortunately it’s a very large venue and they can’t keep up.

Prices are a bit spenny but love the food (especially fish and chips so good), espresso martini is my go to and staff are lovely! Love the bingo on the first wednesday of each month! UPDATE- came back recently and the sizes have been shrunk massively, what once was a big bit of fish is now half the size, the children’s portions are TINY, one sausage with the sausage meal and the burger is like a appetiser, wouldn’t even fill up a child. Not sure what’s happened but bit disappointed.

Such a great venue with a varied choice of areas to sit. It’s more a gastro Pub. Good food and well presented and the staff are super friendly. This Christmas they have pushed the boat out with decorations and lights. Well done team!

Really nice pub with good food. The service is friendly and the vibe inside is really nice with other pub goers seeming super friendly and chill. Lots of seating and tables. The food was good. Baked Camembert starter was delicious. The fish I had was really nice too with good flavours however it was just slightly overcooked for me (it wasn’t super overcooked or anything but it has been cooked a tiny bit longer than that just cooked point).the sauce the fish was in was also a little bit too salty for me. The pie and mash was really nice too.

Super slow service, lovely environment, food ok. We got married here last year (it was amazing, highly recommend) and they offered us a complementary anniversary meal at the time. We were so looking forward to coming back, and was so lovely to be in the barn again, enjoying it decked out for Christmas. Starter was delicious but took 50 mins to come. Roasts should have been out soon after, had to wait another 30 mins. They were ok-let down by roast potatoes and lack of gravy. Then made the mistake of ordering an apple crumble which took another 20 mins, was both undercooked, cold and tasted burnt. Nearly 3 hours later for 2 of us, I couldn’t be bothered to argue about the bill - they took our drinks off and the (awful) pudding but refused to honour the complimentary meal, despite me putting on reservation notes. Would not have minded too much if it had been a better experience but might make a different anniversary tradition!

It was a lovely venue but the service was incredibly slow. Drinks took at least 20 minutes with chasing - table wasn’t cleared and no one came up and asked if we wanted anything else- coffee and teas took ages and asked for the bill, then had to go and find a waiter to make payment so not hugely impressed.

Came for Sunday roast with a booking made on the day. The best roast spuds I've had on a pub roast in ages. Everything was seasoned well and plenty of gravy. There was LOADS of meat too. Service a little slow considering how empty the pub was, but staff were friendly. Really surprised how quiet it was considering how tasty the food is. Will be back 😀 The playlist of music was brilliant too.

Came here for steak night tonight and it was lovely! The Friday steak night is a definite must! For less than £20 you can get a decent sized steak of your choice and a pint, the steak can either be cooked by the in house chef or it can be cooked by you. If you request it you can have your steak brought out to you on a plate raw and you are then provided a hot (and by hot I mean searing hot) stone slab which you can use to fine tune your steak to your liking. Each steak comes with a generous side of chunky steak chips and salad with really tasty salad dressing on top, I can be a bit of a picky eater sometimes but by the time I had finished my plate was completely barren, not a crumb left it was that good. 😃 As for the rest of the pub, the atmosphere when I went was very calm with ambient music, which was nice because you could talk to people without issue but the pub had some character to it, the barman who served me was friendly and happy to serve customers. The beer garden out the back was lovely too, nice and quiet with a pond nearby to watch the ducks on whilst eating in the evening sun. I didn't realize until I had sat down that the beer garden actually stretched the whole way around the side and to the side of the car park. So there is ample room for all people and all group sizes. 😃 5/5 Would recommend if you are interested in eating a nice sized steak and having a laid back evening. 😃

Food was decent, rather overpriced but still nice. The service however was abysmal. Took an hour for 6 mains and another 30 minutes for some small desserts. £10 for a tiny brownie and all the additions to the burger which should come standard. Had to pay £2 for some cheese and £4 for a slice of bacon. Wasn’t super busy so I expected quicker service. Also took 3 attempts to get the bill.
