The Red Barn in Tandridge

Restaurant Review: I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Despite having a reservation, we still waited about 30 minutes for a table. Once seated, service continued to be sluggish; it took a long time just to get our drinks, and we waited over an hour for our food. When it was finally time to order, we discovered they were out of half the menu items — something they didn’t mention until we were ready to order, which made things even more frustrating. When the food finally arrived, it was swimming in a thin, watery gravy. I’m a big fan of gravy, but not when it’s this diluted; it would have been much better served on the side. Overall, the experience left a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t rush back here, unfortunately.

We visited for a Sunday roast. We had booked but turned up two hours early and the staff very kindly accommodated us. We both had the trio roast and the food was all beautiful, all three of the meats were cooked to perfection and very tasty. We also had the mushroom brioche for a starter and the chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All very tasty although it would be nice if it was a genuine sticky toffee pudding, this was more of a toffee cake with butterscotch sauce. The service did let the experience down slightly. Staff were slow to take our orders, offer us dessert menus, check if we needed more drinks etc. Though, once we did order the food came quickly. The whole experience took 3hrs. Despite the speed, the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was overall good. Luckily we weren’t in a mega rush.

This is a very mixed review. The location and setting are absolutely beautiful and I would love to come back and use the outdoor area. On this occassion however we were a little disappointed. We had pre-booked but the main dining room was full when we arrived so we were taken to sit in the Orangery which was nice but didn't have the same atmosphere and felt a bit tucked away which ended up being a real disadvantage. We knew what we wanted so ordered out meal at the same time as our drinks. 35 minutes later we still didn't have our drinks and had to chase them. After 45 minutes we received our meals and the food was absolutely wonderful, no complaints about that other than how long we had waited. Unfortunately we then had to go and find staff to ask for our plates to be removed and get the desert menu after another long wait. We decided just to get the bill and leave at that point. Looking around, I'd say either they had taken more bookings than they could manage or had left themselves short staffed.

The most expensive glass of wine I've ever bought! Lovely surroundings thou.

Atmosphere is good here with still enough space and boltholes to have privacy. Open fires, parking, outdoor spaces and an annual Fireworks night tick all the boxes.

Sunday lunch. Potatoes were cold but overall a lovely setting and attentive staff. Well worth a visit.

Been coming here for 20 years.......yesterday was a low point for my Mum's birthday. 7 of us, 6 had roasts that had clearly been reheated. Hard potatoes, tough meat, they'd run out of sauces, very reactive service. Maybe new management or staff issues? We'll find somewhere else.

The atmosphere and environment was stunning, warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful. However the food was just ok! disappointed giving the amazing environment.

Went here for the first time on a lovely sunny day with my brother and sat outside. Absolutely beautiful venue with gorgeous surrounding countryside in Surrey. The service was good and the menu was quite extensive. I chose the roast which turned out to be disappointing…it looked amazing with a giant Yorkshire pudding but I got three ultra thin slithers of each type of meat (all of which was actually quite tasteless) served with literally a spoonful of gravy so essentially a dry roast. My brother enjoyed his choice so next time I won’t be choosing the roast.

Food is great, better than your average pub next level. Great staff. Fantastic location.

Four of us there for a special occasion, spectacular main room, fire lit, wonderful atmosphere, excellent food, excellent service.

Roasr beef lunch. The plate was cold and so was the meat, and the vegetables. Only the roast potatoes were warm/hot. Dry yorkshire pudding. They promised crispy roast potatoes on the menu. They weren't. Staff did not ask us how the meal was. Overpromised and underdelivered. Very disappointing.

Lovely setting. We sat outside, excellent location. Vegan food options are limited, but we chose the houmous sharing platter, which was extremely tasty.

Somewhere I’d wanted to visit for a while and sadly, it was a bit disappointing. Despite booking well in advance, there wasn’t a table for us when we arrived, which was a sign of the service to come. The food overall was good, however the service was atrocious. We were left without service for most of our visit, leaving us to have to chase staff so that we could order drinks etc. Worse though, was the inability to clear the table, when deserts arrived, our main plates etc still hadn’t been cleared. We then received a bill that included a £30 service charge…when we requested this was removed, we were met with a huff and a 10 minute delay for a replacement bill.

Absolutely love it here! Quiet in the day, so it’s great for getting work done or reading. Very cosy and warm atmosphere too

The Red Barn is a really lovely building, and the food and service do not disappoint. I brought my parents for lunch, and my mother, who says she doesn't have much appetite, wolfed down her battered haddock! Dad had the plaice, which he said was very good. They don't just allow dogs here, they make you feel that they are genuinely welcome, which makes for a truly relaxed experience.

Lovely place nice friendly staff food ok. Maybe I was unlucky with my steak sandwich. Will try them again though.

What a great pub. Lovely to sit outside on a warm summer’s evening before dinner in the magical barn. The service is welcoming and the Dodd exceptional. One of, if not the best pub/restaurant in the South East.

Pricey but food, service and setting are spot on.

Great place for a meet up with colleagues on a Friday evening. Food was good but was suprised on price of “pub food” and the chicken was a bit pink.

Such a lovely venue, decor is authentic and it's a huge place with many different spaces including a secret garden. Would be fab for hosting an event. The menu had not been updated on the website so three of our party were disappointed that there was no banoffee pie. But not the end of the world. I ordered the bavette steak, medium rare. It came rare but I didn't want to interrupt the meal by sending it back. It was disappointing as not to my preference and the brandy peppercorn sauce seemed to be split, it wasn't thick instead watery. Flavour was fine. Service was also fine, little things like having to ask for steak knives detracted from the basic service that you would expect in an establishment like this. Mu sister had the hake which was quite a small portion. My dad had the fish pie which he enjoyed. Did like that they're dog friendly and recieved a warm welcome when we arrived. Staff were nice.

We were booked into the restaurant. After waiting for a 25 minutes before a server came over to ask what drinks we would like then we ordered are meals or tryed too my wife ordered the chicken berger only to be told they had run out. At this point I had enough and said scrub it and we left.

Food was good and great outside area for food

Been coming for a couple of years and the food seems to be going downhill recently, where 2 of the 4 dishes recieved were quite bad... so hit & miss really. The staff are friendly, although impatient at times, but the location and restuaurant itself is stunning.

Lunch: Chicken wings to start - v.good; Mains: Chicken schnitzel - good, nice chips. Gammon - salty, tough over cooked (left half) and egg was semi hard. Shame but great service. Great building only a few in today.

Prices are a bit spenny but love the food (especially fish and chips so good), espresso martini is my go to and staff are lovely! Love the bingo on the first wednesday of each month!

Ok - big disagreement with establishments raking up their prices, and adding discretionary service charges to all bills - this was, and should remain, added only for big parties. Do you understand discretionary puts customers and your staff in a compromising position. Food - beef too rare or too well done - nothing inbetween. Roast spuds needed cooking more. (Better at a Toby Carvery). Pork crackling was poor. If you’re charging £29.90 for a roast make sure people leave stuffed full. Which wasn’t the case. Quick tip. Bring the gravy and sauces first. So we aren’t sat waiting with food infront.

Really beautiful place for events quiet drinks or food. Friendly team behind the bar and dog friendly. Massive fireplace and low and high ceilings garden seating is lovely. Prices are reasonable for drinks, food is a little over priced.

Absolutely fabulous! The chef went above and beyond and made my friend who can’t have garlic and onion a bespoke mackerel pate. It was a lovely quiet lunch and we are regular customers please keep it up!,

Just finished a Sunday roast treat. It was absolutely delicious and generous portions. Great service and atmosphere, excellent day out.

Poor service and overpriced food for the quality. The fish was dry, tasteless and was mostly hard batter with not much fish at all. Tiny portion of mushy peas no bigger than a tablespoon and the curry sauce was bland. The tartare sauce was nice and so were the chips but there weren’t many. It certainly wasn’t worth the £18 it cost. The service was slow. The restaurant was fairly empty as we arrived early evening however, we had to get up to ask someone to come and take our order. After dinner we were given dessert menus but nobody came back to take our order so we just got up and asked for the bill. We were served by all different staff but did let them know at the end about the service so it can hopefully be improved. The pub itself is very lovely and we received good service at the bar on arrival where a lady helped us choose our bottle of rose. I won’t be returning for food in the future.

Spent a lovely afternoon in the Red Barn for my daughter’s 30th. Private dinner setting area off main restaurant but open one side so you don’t feel excluded or isolated. Roast dinner was up there with the best and all 14 of us were well looked after by the staff. Cheers.

Plenty of places to sit, inside and out. Dog friendly. Music outside was a little loud, but it was turned down on request. Beautiful historic interior. Overall,a great find.

We thought the food was underwhelming we all took the quiche which didn’t have much flavour and was a very small slice. It was off the lunch menu. The tomatoes which accompanied it were no better than ok.The drinks service was amazingly quick. The lady who was taking the orders seemed to get rushed off her feet at one point but coped with it admirably.

Lovely pub, only had a drink as too early for lunch but would definitely come back. Its very big so I imagine the atmosphere would be great when full. Huge barn, bookcases and lots of seating options. Would be good for a celebration or function. Nice outdoor searing as well.

We had our wedding reception and evening celebrations at the Red Barn a few weeks back and it was dreamy!! We had several meetings with Lottie beforehand to plan the day and make sure that everything went to plan. Lottie was so accommodating during those meetings and our day could not have been any better! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing and most of all Lottie was amazing! You're a gorgeous human inside and out and we can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us!

Sunday lunch was great with attentive staff. Let down by a neighbouring table (inside) where someone was vaping which when first reported to the staff nothing was done so I had to get a manager involved. The fact that a customer doesn’t have the willpower or manners to think that it’s acceptable is bad enough, but I would have liked the staff to react a lot more quickly.

Super nice place with very tasty food. The employees were very friendly and everything went quickly and smoothly. There was even a small bar with treats and water for the dogs and the vegan options were really great. We would definitely eat there again.

My twin sister and I decided to have our 50th birthday party in the secret garden at the red barn. What an amazing venue. Everyone loved it, the staff were fantastic, Lottie was brilliant along with all the staff in the evening. They were so attentive, and nothing was too much. The food was unbelievable, and I had one person who was gluten intolerant. They were so careful and did everything they could to accommodate this. From start to finish, it was amazing, and everyone complimented the venue, food, and staff. What a special place this is, and I wouldn't hesitate to use the red barn again. Thank you for making our party special x

It's a nice place, food is a little expensive really and service while good was a little distracted almost it felt like. Had an unfortunate situation with a bone in the food, but other than that, nice. I may come back again but have been a little put off for now.

Coming off the back of a 3 day festival, all I wanted was a good quality steak, and that’s exactly what I got. Cooked exactly how we requested and served w the perfect string fries, I couldn’t be happier. Dad got the Kiev and it was just as delicious. Apologies for the photo, I was too excited and forgot to take it before I poured the sauce everywhere.. also no Kiev pics as dad had started already. I will say that service could be slightly friendlier, however as someone who works hospitality too, I understand it can be hard to be chipper all the time (although it is our industry). Would highly recommend if you like fresh, quality ingredients. Thank you to the chef😊

Thanks to everyone at the Red Barn for an absolutely fantastic fathers day meal. This is a must visit pub. The menu is fabulous and made for difficult choices, will need to visit again soon to try all the other options. Incredible value, quality ingredients and warm service to boot. One of the best sunday roasts I have had and the steak tartare is a must try. Can't wait to visit again soon.

I had arranged to use there outside tent facilities to host close to 200 people following a family funeral and Lottie there organizer did a fantastic job. The food was great and the service was great , so thank you Lottie and team.

Right - all I’m going to say is this: try their pies. Do it. Please. The Hogget & Wild Garlic pie, served with just the right amount of mash and cabbage…. If Carlsberg made pies then they’d look at the pies served at The Red Barn, shrug their shoulders and go home to cry. The staff, the venue, the menu - do yourself a favour and try it. Thank me later.

Loved my experience at The Red Barn. Staff all super friendly and helpful and couldn’t do more for you. Food was delicious as was the atmosphere the outside setting was lovely on a sunny day. Highly recommend for big groups of people celebrating birthdays etc. Will be back!

It’s a big barn. They do a nice light lunchtime menu which was lovely. Service was good and the food was very tasty. The food is also just a little different from many of the other pubs in the area which is great.My only gripe was the price of the non alcoholic beer. Seemed expensive by the pint. I will drink real beer next time. Problem solved!

Where do I start ! It’s a mixture of feelings about the whole experience we have encountered. First of all , I must say it’s one of the most beautifully decorated pubs I’ve ever been to. It’s clean , vibrant and cozy. Simply sublime! I’ve given 5* based on the atmosphere.. We booked on a special occasion. It was my partners birthday. I have specifically asked on the booking that candle on a dessert, which never happened..We arrived little early to have a drink in the bar, my fault I didn’t request , but staff never bothered either. It would have been nice to be asked to have a drink in the bar! More money for you but then hey ! We’ve ordered a bottle of wine , waiter just left it on the table without even opening it, not asking for me to try and it was extremely unprofessional I thought. Especially the restaurant wasn’t even busy !!! The food was good. My partners steak was amazing, although my mackerel dish was lacking flavour. When I added salt, lemon and pepper, it was good. But not something I would order again. Overall, the management needs to take a moment of training the staff i thought. This is a beautiful establishment and I really think it deserves more. Little touches can go long way . I wish them all the success and I will return, but not in a hurry!

So we went this weekend for a Sunday roast. It was a disappointing experience. Normally it has been great, but this time very poor. I booked and we were seated. It was about 15mins that we waited for service. I had to go up to the station to ask if we could place our order. Strange really that the were only 3 parties including us. So no reason to be such a long wait. Both other table were asked if they wanted a drink and given some water. The food did arrive very quickly and was of a good standard and hot. However the cauliflower cheese dish was very strange, hard lacked taste and had something on the top. Not a nice experience. Very disappointing.

Incredibly enjoyed our meal at the Red Barn! We ate in the function room for my mums birthday and everything was perfect. Lovely little space for events like that, and our waitress Sophia (and the rest of the staff) were so attentive and helpful- Especially for a large group. Stunning interior as well! Would definitely recommend coming here and enjoying the delicious food too!

Very pleasant lunch at The Red Barn on 1st May 2024. We both had the fish and chips which was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly.

We have just enjoyed a lovely lunch. We also met the new landlord, he was so friendly and has great ideas... we're sure it will be a success We will definitely come and try Sunday lunch! 😉

We had my father's wake here on March 20. Lottie was our point of contact and she was amazing. She made a very hard event to arrange so much easier. She was so attentive on the day. An absolute gem. The food was good although a bit pricey considering the quality. A beautiful venue. Thank you Lottie for making the hardest day of my life easier xx

We had lentil moussaka, hake and blood orange lentil salad. Moussaka and hake very nice orange lentil salad disappointing, hardly any orange, not many lentils insipid dressing lots of lettuce. Service was slow.

Great place, the pub is beautiful inside and has a nice ambiance, with a lovely outdoor space too. The menu had great choices and the meals were very well prepared. The sticky toffee pudding is a winner. The staff were very friendly, and provided a great service.

The Red Barn is a beautiful venue! The food was very nice followed by attentive service by the team! We will definitely return and recommend it - the sticky toffee pudding is top notch If anyone’s thinking of hosting their wedding there, it’s a very pretty barn to do so, would have definitely picked it for myself.

Not been here for a while amd first visit since the new management. Really impressed with menu, food, and service. Catered excellently for a gluten-free customer with great care and attention to detail, which is rare to find. Friendly attentive staff. Love the changes since our last visit a few months ago!

What a great visit. The pub is beautiful with lovely outdoor seating and inside very nice. Staff very friendly and attentive and lady serving us was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious and worthy of the high reviews which is why we picked this place. I had the lamb which was amazing and highly recommend and the sticky toffee pudding which was very yummy. Highly recommend this place and would come again.

Huge car park in pleasant setting. Several pretty gardens. Amazing converted old barn, delightful inside. Fine for disabled, I think. But the star of the show is the food, which is gourmet standard.

Good food let down by service. 7 of us for a bank holiday Monday lunch, admittedly eating late in the day so appreciate certain dishes may be running out - no issues with this fact. Main issue was with not informing of dishes sold out prior to ordering, happened multiple times with mains and desserts. Took drinks order at start of meal, never came back to ask if we wanted a second. Spoons not on table until requested after desserts already served. But food was good, so perhaps just an off day

Attentive service only let down but very loud large table seated behind us half way through the meal. Starters served promptly and were great, outstanding carrot and coriander soup. Mains were good especially the calves liver and the lamb shoulder pie but felt my fish and chips needed more attention as the chips were undercooked and the the fish overcooked. Overall a decent meal though and would return.

We bought my grandpa out for lunch and they made sure we are in a quiet corner near the disabled loo. Food was all delicious and service was wonderful despite being short staffed. We look forward to our next visit.

The Red Barn was a lovely pub. The atmosphere and service were good however the food was average and quite pricey. I'm really not a fussy eater but my roast beef was sent back as chewy and bloody. Came back much the same and was not able to eat it. The cauliflower cheese was dry with barely any cheese sauce. Did not wish to complain again. However my families meals were all fine but again average nothing special.

Excellent food, beautiful place and fast and very pleasant service. Worth. We will be back.
