Over the last three years we have had dinner at The Real Jerk at least 5 times. Each time the food has been good but the service which started off as slow, has now become farcical. On our most recent visit the venue had five tables with customers. We were looked up and down by the surly waitress who then threw some tatty menus at us, and we waited and waited and waited. No offer to order drinks, let alone food, as the waitress played with her phone and fired filthy looks at all the customers. We stood up to leave having still not ordered and two other tables followed us out. It is a real shame because the food could be really great, but the staff are rude beyond belief. The owner either doesn't care or doesn't know. A fresh lick of paint and new serving staff with an ounce of training would go a long way.

Both my friend and i went to the Real Jerk restaurant in the SW2 Area on Sunday and had a great time Has you opened the door it was like you’d been transferred back to old skool It beautiful old-skool lover rock, ridden, it just takes you back to the days, the music was so catchy you couldn't help but sing. The deco was nice it felt as if you were transported back to the Caribbean island The cultural art drawings were beautiful hang on the wall, the rum bar had the island theme the ambience was great. We were greeted by Suzanne who showed us to our seats it was quite empty it could be the time we got there. At the bar counter i notice Suzanne also sold West Indies large hardo bread and large bun, carrot, banana, and coconut cake, and other goodies. My friend and i made our order the wait was a bit long. But the music kept us both entertained both reminiscing and singing away. Suzanna's daughter went down to the kitchen then the food arrived a little after with the chef. Anyway, the food was perfectly hot The food was nice seasoned and flavoursome.

Long wait for order and then had missing items. I called to report the incomplete order but received a rude response from the most unprofessional woman on the phone who started shouting that they didn’t have the food in stock but she would not process a refund and then she hung up the phone. Recorded the conversation and reported to Deliveroo. I obviously do not recommend this awful restaurant, I’m surprised that they are still running.

I'll start by saying the food here is exquisite authentically cooked to perfection with generous portions. I had the jerk fish and did not expect for it to taste as amazing as it did- compliments to the chef(s)!! Now, unfortunately I have to mention the dire service experience. On the plus side, the staff were kind and accommodating, however the restaurant is severely under staffed and quite disorganized. My recommendations are as follows: 1. Hire more staff, on a big Saturday night where it's likely that you will be booked because your food is so delicious it's important to ensure there is enough staff to wait on the tables so customers are not waiting for 45 minutes for their drinks and starters. 2. Invest in a more modernised and efficient ordering and billing system for diners to use, maybe an iPad ordering system where orders go straight to the kitchen freeing up your staff tend to other customer needs. 3. Hire separate bar staff, one lady taking orders AND making drinks for 50 people is impractical and inefficient. 4. Serve guests drinks first before serving starters, this is an absolute dining custom - we waited a long time to receive water; this should be one of the first things that is offered to the table as soon as we sit down instead 50 minutes after I arrived. 4. 5. All waitresses serving food should wear an apron to protect themselves and provide a clean and assuring aesthetic when serving food. Unfortunately, our young waitress was holding our hot plates with the sleeve of her jumper, which I'm sure is violates health and safety practice and looks extremely unprofessional and unsanitary. At least an apron or waitress towel would suffice. 6. Prioritize your dine-in guests over your delivery patrons; we were left waiting a long while because service staff were busy organizing deliveries It's unfortunate that our experienced here was heavily tainted by under staffing and a few poor practices. I would love to see this restaurant flourish because the food really is amazing. With a bit more thought behind the organization and management of the restaurant it really can become the best Jamaican restaurant that London has to offer.

This is not a restaurant that I could recommend. I waited so long for my food that I actually popped out for a packet of crisps while I waited. I ordered the oxtail which was not cooked correctly, the meat was very hard, I could not eat it , and left the restaurant feeling unwell, with an upset stomach. This is not the restaurant to go to if you are looking for prompt service and good food. I shall not be returning.

Awful experience with the worst customer service even encountered. They messed up our orders, tried to make us pay again for another order to receive it, the waitress was shouting over us and then lying followed by blaming others rather the rectifying the mess. We ended up not getting our food after waiting 2.5 hours. Surprised they even have a license with the degree of unprofessionalism.

We had friends over and were really excited to get a Caribbean meal from “this great place we’ve been to a few times.” It never happened, as the delivery was up to 75 mins (long, but we agreed to it, so not a problem) + an unexpected 70 mins. The time kept creeping up, and the phone line was engaged for at least 30mins whilst I tried to call to find out what was going on. I rang 116 times. Excessive and still didn’t speak to anyone. Nearly 2.5 hours went by. At which point we cancelled. Communication would’ve been good. Sticking to your times would’ve been good. Highly disappointing and probably the last time we will attempt to purchase from TRJ. Which is a shame as when you do deliver in the time frame, it’s delicious.

Awful service! Made to wait three hours and then the food arrived incomplete. The food was nice but service was rude. They prioritise online orders! This restaurant should be shut down. Diabolical service! Rude waitress! Service done without a smile!

I was told when I arrived the prices had increased by 50p to £3.00 but they couldn’t say on which items and you wouldn’t know until you got the bill! I went to order the combo meal which was £20 on the menu to then find out it was now £25. How hard can it be to print out a temporary paper menu! Whilst I was eating my starter my main course was brought to me and I said I’m still eating my starter could I have it after. The waitress looked taken aback. I then asked if I could have a leg and thigh quarter of chicken instead of the breast and she looked annoyed. It took ages for me to receive my drink which was a very nice rum punch which i had to ask twice for twice. There was no apology. The food is well presented but tasteless. I asked if the jerk chicken was cooked on a pan or in the oven I didn’t get an answer. It tasted like roast chicken there was no taste of jerk. After I finished my meal my plate was taken away and that was it. I decided to ask for the bill, the waitress took the payment I’m not even sure she said thank you as she still seemed annoyed. I will not be returning

My fIrst visit there and will definitely be my last visit, the service was extremely slow the waiter even walked slow. The food was absolutely awful the meat was covered in so much fat out of 7 lamb chops I managed to squeeze a bit of meat if only one. The curry prawns tasted like rubber you had to chew them forever. Then to top it all they increased the prices on the receipt by £3 on some items and on others it was increased by £1.25 minimum. When I challenged them I was told there had been a price increase due to inflation. The only nice thing there was their smoothies.

I just wanted to give a massive thank you to the team at The Real Jerk who came to my assistance when I collapsed (twice) when I was at the restaurant . They were fantastic

On arrival, was confronted with a young, female member of staff. Who abruptly told us there wasn’t any rice, and in fact half of the menu (yet online food order’s were being quickly dispatched to couriers right in front of our eyes?!!!!! To add, the young lady in question was also being rude on the phone, whilst taking food orders. We ordered one round of drinks - the same member of staff rudely slammed all 4 drinks at one end of the table, causing us to have to reach over one another! I must add, the Guinness punch was lovely! Waiting 15 mins another member of staff tended to our table - a young, male member of staff took our food order - order placed, to which 20 mins later was told they had “sold out” of some of the items ordered! Changed order, waiting another 40 mins and then had to find staff to check where our order was? He went to the kitchen and then returned 10 mins later to say “It shouldn’t be too much longer”. Due to the time factor - It seems the kitchen is not even in the same location as the restaurant???! After a further 20 mins of waiting, we we ready to leave - when we were told, “The food is coming now”. The young man disappeared again, 10 mins later said “It’s being plated up now”. Looking back - I wish we had ordered via just eat/deliveroo and dined in (would have been half the speed!) Food arrived (completely incorrect, missed items, incorrect items) There wasn’t any steamed veg, no rice or fries??!! Due to this we had to order a concoction from the menu comprising of starters & mains in order to have a half substantial meal. (Main meal never arrived - had given up by this point!) Overall, waiting 1hr 40 mins for 1 Guinness pinch and 5 chicken wings (to add, the wings were delicious!) We left hungry, frustrated and without any apology for poor customer service or the food delays. Bearing in mind, the restaurant was NOT busy - 1 other small table dining inside, another customer had walked out not long after we arrived due to the lack of urgency. The young male member of staff was very polite and friendly, but just completely out of his depth (including basic arthritic when dealing with our bill) Sadly, the young female member of staff was the rudest, unprofessional and disrespectful waitress I have ever encountered. We will NEVER return here again, it’s such a shame as we always support black businesses and came from out of town. As a business owner myself, this is exactly how to fail a business due lack of staff management and poor time management. 29/5/22 at approx 20.30.

The food is actually quite nice here... it’s what comes with it and what you have to endure which makes the dining experience here quite possibly the worst... clearly there is no real leadership in this restaurant, let alone a manager it very unprofessional, staff are clearly not trained in customer service or silver service... my family ordered thee food at 7:30pm and received it at 9:20pm - I won’t go into the ins and outs suffice to say thee was no apology or anything of that nature offered quite the opposite... it was our faults according to one very rude & aggressive chef ... who offered nothing in the face of an unacceptably poor service. We have been there 3-4 times in the last year and won’t be going back again... Shame that such a great located black owned restaurant has staff in it so unmotivated and scared of the head chef that the atmosphere is one of stress discontent and anxiety. It’s embarrassingly poor and the owner /manger needs to really think about the team they have in there ... because it ain’t working.

They always forget at least one item and can’t handle large orders. I had 2 delivery drivers leave the restaurant because they were taking so long. The one that did deliver complained and said their service is always terrible and it seems they only care about customers in the restaurant. You wait for a long time for dry mediocre food. Not worth it. Won’t be ordering from them again.

My party and I attended this venue for my husbands birthday meal. On arrival we were greeted by a waitress however from here on the service went down hill. As there was another larger party taking place it would seem we had ‘gatecrashed’ their event. We waited 1 hour 30 mins for our drinks to arrive and a further 45 mins for our meals to arrive. Our meals arrived intermittently with items missing, food cold and uncooked, we waited a further 20 mins for our cutlery to arrive still wet and without napkins. It would appear there wasn’t enough cutlery hence the delay and being wet. Due to the set up of the tables the other party surrounded our table to sing happy birthday to their guests whilst we were waiting for cutlery. During our long wait I was given several excuses for the delay which included only one bar tender available , the food being cooked from fresh (which we would expect in any case) and a flooding had taken place in the kitchen area which only seemed to have affected our order. On speaking to the manager although offering an apology and acknowledging we should not have had this experience hence not taking payment, this took away our night and our celebrations we had to resort to going KFC not to mention our guests included two elderly and vulnerable diabetic guests and even they were not catered for. Appalling service which deserves no stars! Please take note of this review when dining at this establishment as it’s clearly lacking in all areas.

This was my second visit to the Real Jerk. Things have not improved. The server was pleasant and keen to take our drinks order and food order -no problem. It was the delay in getting the food that was the problem - should it take more than 30 minutes for a starter to arrive?? No communication at all. We had to ask what was happening. When the starter arrived - underwhelmed. Then less than 15 mins later the mains arrive to be served whilst some were still eating their starter. (That is the failure of management not training staff in restaurant etiquette). The food was fairly substantial but to be honest I have had better. I asked the manager why we were expected to wait for our food not knowing WHEN it would arrive. I wasn't convinced by his answers about lack of staff as the bill which came faster than the food showed that we got our meal discounted due to 'long wait' which made me suspect that long waiting was the norm in this place. None of the guests from 3 different tables seemed happy with their treatment. Poorly trained and generally indifferent staff (no training on customer service to understand what keeps customers happy and likely to return! Partially positive of the evening was the music. If you forgot you were in a restaurant then it was very enjoyable. Will I be going back??? NO!!. I know good service when I receive it and this was not evident here nor do I believe there will be a change other than when it closes down for lack of customers.
