Wonderful little find. Excellent and attentive service. The owner was wonderfully accommodating given some of our party had some food intolerances. The Beef was the showstopper! Best I’ve tasted for a very very long time. Would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent food. Service was good, although the young waitresses were clearly rather inexperienced and under pressure, they were always polite and did their best to be helpful. The room was rather noisy, with hard surfaces all round tending to amplify the sound generated by a large group nearby, which at times made conversation difficult. Mostly a good experience, however.

Had a Wednesday night curry for my birthday supper. It was a little quiet but the other diners made for a good ambience and the setting, in the dining room, being festively decked out, and all, was good. Service was always helpful n provided with advice (on the menu) and a smile. Loved the curry and we will b back! 2 starters, 2 drinks and 2 mains came in at c£65. Curry was £15. The fish and chips is also a good choice @ £18.

Came here for the Sunday roast! We were a group of 6 and were seated at the dining room, which featured large windows overlooking the outdoor area. Really lovely seating area. They also have seating in the main pub area, where although more dimly lit, is quite charming and quaint, and there was even a wood fire burning. Things we tried: Pork scratchings w/ apple sauce (7/10): some bits were a bit hard, but still really good and crunch. Sunday roast (8/10): beef roast was certainly on point, perfectly cooked. It was a bit lukewarm when it arrived. The sides of broccoli, roasted parsnips and beets, carrot puree, and cauliflower cheese were also wonderful. However, I wish the potatoes were a bit more crisp! Chili chocolate cremeux (5/10): there is a hint of lime, and the cremeux is wonderfully silky, but there is surprisingly not much flavor or chocolate. There were chocolate crunchy bits, but that didn't really make up for the bland cremeux. Would not recommend. I did hear that the toffee pudding was good though!

Mark and I visit the church house regularly being our local, the staff are always so welcoming and warm and the food never lets us down. However, last night's dish topped it off for me, I had to have the sea food Ramen being caribbean and a seafood lover. Ohhhh it was cooked to perfection... oh the flavours, the textures and presentation was super fantastic. Definitely in my top 5 meals from the 58 countries I've visited so far. A totally superb roast lunch in an atmospheric 11th century inn. Clearly a very popular spot for lunch on a Sunday, so don't expect to walk in without a reservation and find a table. We left at 3.30; our table was ready for waiting customers very shortly after and Sunday lunch was still being served. The carnivores in our group said that the pork crackling was amazing, the vegetarians loved the nut roast. All the vegetables were excellent, especially the cauliflower cheese and (not a common sight) the roasted beetroot. We sampled three of the six or more possible desserts, all scored very highly. Mine was a most enjoyable apple and pear crumble with creme anglaise (custard?). We were happy to forgive fairly slow service, first of all because we didn't want to rush, secondly, because there was a party of 30 people being looked after at the other end of the inn and, thirdly, because the staff were really lovely even though they were clearly extremely busy. We shall definitely be returning; this lunch was easily one of the top three best we have experienced over many years.

I thought I had booked a bar table for just three of us, and so I was slightly disappointed to be placed in the dining area. Don't get me wrong, this is fine for large groups or summer daytime lunches, but it's not the same as the atmosphere in the bar. All else was great. Food and vegetarian options were all excellent, as is their selection of local beers and their choice of smiley courteous staff.

If I could pick the inn to be near where I live this would be in the top 5. As we walked in to the establishment we were actually greeted a wonderful looking traditional English bar, long and well stocked. After exchanging greetings with a member of staff we found ourselves a table for 5, there was a table for 8 so a large party should be ok, just let the staff know before turning up. The menu, a good amount of choices and very nice. Drinks, a big list of wines, beers etc. Seating, comfortable. Lighting, those with sight issues should be ok. Background music, a good mix and not too loud. The staff. Ever staff member I talked to was so nice, it was like talking to a family member. Would I go back, definitely. 😀 Photos? I forgot my phone. 😆

Fine with- I ordered food - when the waiter came for the foot order which was a good 15 minutes after drinks- and there was lots of patience etc. they then said there was no squid ink pasta for the £25 meal, which you’d think they’d offer a discount considering that’s not what you got for the price. Also to note- we went in the night before but Daughter was hungry and considering there were only 3 options it didn’t suit us so we left. The menu was different (this is the day before we ate). So clearly, this could have been changed to ‘normal pasta’. The pasta was actually very delicious. Bad parts -which normally you’d be offered a discount / refund. I got an ‘oh no’ after asking if it was okay? -Burger was more than plain, no offerings of mustard or jalapeño, even just seasoning. £17 The seafood hake loin pasta!- should have included muscles. I got 0, yes 0 muscles in the ‘seafood’ pasta and 2 slightly cold scallops. Sauce was lovely but I wouldn’t pay £25 for nice sauce and charcoal skin hake. Did I explain to Waitress? Yes. Offered sympathy? No. Don’t bother booking, our table was booked for 15 but was moved to 17 because someone was sat there instead of us. Which we would have loved to sit where we was booked for having a young child by the garden! £70 worth it? No. But we ate it considering it was the only pub in rattery / place to eat.

Another fabulous outing to the hidden gem that is the Church House Inn. Will and his team go above and beyond to make it more than just a place to eat. The menu variety was just outstanding and it was a real struggle to pick from so many mouth watering options. We both opted for the steaks as we had heard good things and wanted to see what all the hype was about. Now as a self certified meat snob, I can honestly say it was the best steak I have had for a very long time. Cooked to perfection with a beautiful texture that just melted in your mouth. Makes a nice change coming to a pub that clearly knows what they are doing with exceptional local produce. Will definitely be back soon.
