It was our first time at Shilstone Cafe so didn’t think we would have to book. However as all the tables inside were booked we were offered to sit outside under cover. We did and it was lovely sitting at a table by the fire. We had 2 eggs Benedict and coffees which were a little more expensive than we would normally pay but the service and atmosphere made up for it. We will definitely be back and take a walk around the grounds.

A really special cafe. You know when you see great photos on the website but when you turn up it looks completely different? Well this place is just as the photos suggest, beautiful. The staff are super friendly and food is delicious. They've just got it so right!

Shilstone is fabulous. My go to, favourite place for coffee, cakes , lunch and always a stroll around the beautiful gardens imagining I'm on the set from Pride & Predudice. The staff are exceptional...I'm sure they are aliens, as they are delightfully lively. Food is another level. Cakes are delicious. The library is an added gem. My son and I were enthralled with the amazing local history, old books, pictures and local farming records...so interesting. Thank you Shilstone, you deserve a 5 star review.

This kept coming up on my feed as a suggestion. So glad I followed it up. This place is lovely. Staff are great, food was lovely and the setting is very rural chic. We will be visiting again to take in some of the walks and finish with coffee and cake 😋

Went to the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic, had high hopes for the cafe....don't get me wrong it's OK, but I probably wouldn't do the drive just for a coffee again

Amazing breakfast and fabulous coffee, on the day we went it was quite cold and the door was left open all the time we were there but apart from this it was fantastic, will definitely be back. Great ingredients cooked to perfection and love the fact this is served on the weekends until 2pm so for late breakfasters it's perfect!

My second visit to this recently opened café in a converted barn at Shilston House near Modbury, now serving hot food. I had a very nice homemade parsnip soup with toasted bread and a latte this time. The cafe is decorated with historic rural photos and upstairs is the Devon Rural Archive. It's a destination. There is also WiFi, although not the fastest.

I had the pleasure of a return visit to Shilstone Café for a lunch meeting. The atmosphere, food and service was above Café restaurants of a similar ilk and combining this with the fascinating, and very surprising history of Shilstone really added to the unique lunch dining experience of the Café. It was also interesting to see cyclists making the Café a specific lunch time stop off point. Just a wonderful place to visit and enjoy well portioned, beautifully prepared and competitively priced food.

Fabulous cafe with a lovely setting, delicious food, friendly staff. Portions are generous, at less than £10 per head for lunch, and we took a 'doggy bag' home with us. The quality of the food was exceptional and the staff couldn't do enough to tailor the meal for our children. It was wonderful to have such a good side salad with the sandwiches, with proper dressing and varied fresh ingredients. When they realised we had children, the staff immediately asked what they like and tailored their salads accordingly. Our normally picky son finished everything on his plate!

A wonderful venue and fantastic food. We live locally in Ugborough and my wife suggested to go for a walk through the beautiful gardens and landscape of Shistone house, which even in the pouring rain was wonderful. We then went to the café for a light lunch and there were no complaints. The staff couldn't do enough to help and were particularly helpful in regards to our children and adjusting items to suit. The food was fresh, well made and fantastically presented, and the ploughman's sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, which as a previous Michelin Star Chef I can attest to. There is a comment on here to say that the prices were expensive at nine pounds for a sandwich. The prices were clearly displayed and so if you didn't want to pay that then why did you? If you visit the National Trust or a boutique café or café farm shop then the prices are comparable and you do not get the service, dressed side salad or composition of food that you do at the Shilstone Café. Worth every penny, so much so that we took some chocolate fudge cake home to eat, certainly couldn't manage it after lunch. To add to this we also had a wonderful chat with the owner of Shilstone house who was passing and was very interested in our feedback. A truly wonderful place to visit and eat.

Disappointed it’s a lovely place but the sandwiches are overpriced £9.75 for a cheese ploughmans sandwich and a few crisps and bit of salad, bread was not fresh either very disappointed service was slow, they seemed understaffed!

Such a beautiful drive from Plymouth to this gorgeous little gem situated in the rolling hills of Devon. A great start! I started with a Luscombe Elderflower drink (fantastic to see local companies being supported like this), and a wonderfully fresh spicy chicken wrap which came plated with a tasty green salad, perfect on a hot sunny day. I had to have a dessert, the only issue there was the huge amount I had to choose from! I went for the Victoria sponge which was so light and airy and packed with a juicy jam. I’m so looking forward to bringing my mum next weekend, its just her cup tea.

We arrived in Dartmouth for a weeks holiday and after reading the reviews thought Bushell’s Upper Deck sounded great so we walked down to give it a go. It’s a pop up restaurant and it was its last night of the summer. They welcomed us, explained as it was their last night there was a limited menu. We had a super meal, starters of squid and garlic flatbread, followed by seafood risotto and American pizza, finished off with tiramisu and ice cream. Fabulous food, great service, very friendly and welcoming and fabulous views. We certainly struck lucky! Thank you!

The best...in Salcombe for Glorious, clean, tasty, sandwiches, baguettes, salad boxes, deserts to take away. Fine, quality ingredients...prepared in a light, bright, scurrilous clean shop environment. Great, genuine, customer service. Thank you. A credit to the catering proffesion. Much Respect.
