Popped in this afternoon for lunch and a few drinks in the beer garden with my partner and wasn't expecting much tbh but what a great afternoon we ended up having. We were served by the lovely Rebecca who couldn't of been any nicer or helpful, truly a credit to the pub. The beer garden is fantastic, spotlessly clean and very modern. It's situated at the back of the pub away from the main road and hidden in away from the wind. We had the surf and turf to eat, the plate was pilled high with tiger prawns and the most delicious hand cut chips. This was washed down with a beautifully chilled bottle of white wine. Great value for money, all the better knowing that it's a family run buisness. Already booked to come back with my son and mother on Friday!

What can I say, the Rambler is so much better since the owners changed. I have visited many times but never taken the time to write a review till now. Friendly staff, lovely menu with great choice all home cooked, what else could you ask for in village local? The new owners have created a family friendly feel and there is a real buzz about the place now. The fact many regulars from the new owners old bar have followed them here speaks wonders about the atmosphere they create. A real home from home.

Just popped into Torrance and the Rambler pub for quick bite to eat during road trip. There was a good choice and reasonably priced food on their menu. Lunch was tasty and we made the most of the sunshine and sat outside in the comfortable, terraced area. The main point for writing this review was to mention the very friendly staff and excellent service. Parking area available at the back.

Yes I know it's a pub yes I know it's Torrance and not bray or padstow but when you see a website that shows scallops, steak ,rack of lamb then you think it should live up to some of its hype. Went in Thursday 15th Feb 18,informed 2 lagers off and someone will fix it later, okay bad start, went to restaurent pub menu showed only basic food,I asked about the steaks, not on the menu I was informed. So asked to start with the haggis fritters, waitress came back,no haggis ,what in Scotland, okay mixed platter then, came back the waitress no platter as The fryer isn't working but you can have anything else on the menu I suppose you could providing it didn't need fried or cooked!!.there was actually a chef in whites in the kitchen, must have had a easy night not having to cook anything, the owners of this pub need to have a good look at themselves they are a disgrace,so I walked out and went to the Torrance inn ,what a difference.

Was served by a lovely girl Becca who took our order and chatted away while getting us drinks. I got Hunters chicken with mash & choice of veg, delicious chicken was succulent and bacon crispy with spicy bbq sauce topped with cheese. the other 2 both got fish and chips, which they said the batter was very light and the fish cooked perfectly. all in all a cracking meal was had by all and staff friendly with the price very reasonable. I would recommend taking a trip in...oh and they have 2 log open fires..which makes it all cosy. great new owners are onto a winner if this keeps up.

5 ladies on an early Friday evening out with hubbies looking after the kids attend to enjoy a drink and they saw us comming! Lawyer friend pointed out that charging £22 for a bottle of prosecco sold in Costco for £8.33 and not listed on their menu is illegal. You can't simply think of a price on the spot then have the audacity to say your champagne is £40 a bottle. Who on earth do you think you are? Poor waiting staff when it was pointed out that we could have purchased 75cl bottles of prosecco for less for the same volume they were embarrassed and very apologetic. Management/owner is building a reputation for arguing with patrons as opposed to encouraging return trade. A standard village pub in Torrance. We pay less in an upmarket City Centre pub. We won't be back.

My wife and I visited a fortnight ago, as has most appealing menu of the pubs in village.Since our last visit, some months ago, things appeared to have improved. A menu from which your choice would at least be available, We enjoyed our meal, we enjoyed our evening. So thinking things were on the up we returned for dinner this evening.Lets get some context first, our village could benefit from having a gastro pub, pub / restaurant, whatever, that delivers good food in a congenial environment. We already have existing establishments, which serve up bar food, I want more for my village, and am willing to pay.We booked a table, no problem, ordered drinks, fantastic, waiting staff genial and attentive. Ordered our meal, still great, until waitress, couldn't open a very over priced bottle of wine, without splitting the cork. We chose to sit in the booths, to catch the football, however we were surprised by the F ing and C ing from others. F ing not a problemThe food, half a dozen scrawny shrimps in garlic, not even a crumb of bread to soak up the juices £6.75. Scallops which you could bounce off the wall £6.75 not overly priced, if not overly cookedFresh Scampi and chips, under cooked bland and tastelessGet this seasonal veg, £3.75 for 3 pieces of broccoli and half dozen bits of carrot, which had obviously been re heated in ping machine, mushy. I am so disappointed I would welcome a serious eaterie in our village, something with a difference.Alas we have a charlatan, sort it out, we want great food, not bull...!!!!

I wanted to really like this place. Went on a sat night, not too busy. A la carte chosen, hot garlic prawns, over cooked. 4 of us, steak pie was good, lasagna - dry served with a green salad (out a bag) neither of the 2 that ordered it finished it & the chef came out & asked how we enjoyed our meal to which my friend replied that the lasagne was a tad on the dry side (under exaggerated ) & he replied that it was supposed to be dry.....there's dry & there's dry !! I ordered the fillet steak with pepper sauce, reasonable size steak... tasteles ( looked as though it had been suveed ) honestly it was tasteless & at £21 I expected something decent plus the fact it was served with asparagus which I love but was more than al dente.....couldn't eat it & could'nt eat the steak. The pepper sauce wasn't pepper...don't know what it was but it wasn't good. The wine was nice but way over priced for local outskirts Torrance. This place is punching above its weight & missing. It's overpriced & the food is ok, not great. So would I go back....no.Check out the wheatsheaf down the road it's not overpriced, the steak pie is lovely & it doesn't pretend to be something that it's not. It's basic pub food but it won't break the bank.

Invited here for a friends birthday on Saturday afternoon. It seemed an average pub and I have expecting some decent pub grub. We must have arrived after the lunch rush as we were the only people there. Service was rubbish, after being greeted, by what I assumed was the chef, we were given a full run down of almost every dish on the menu - after 10 minutes we were allowed to make a drinks order. It all seemed very shambolic to me, having the chef delivering drinks to us and taking food order - maybe they were seriously understaffed. Then mains arrived, I had the 'Ramblers Burger' - which on the menu boasted of a big burger and all the trimmings (chunky fries, relish, onion rings), however I was forced to settle with a rubbery burger in a bun, and mcdondonald style chips. I was so disappointed but I felt I could not complain as this lunch was a special occasion. If I was to complain - the only point of contact we had so far was the chef himself and a server who did not introduce himself. Overall the service and food were so bad I will not be recommending or returning to this plastic pub.

My family and I were in Scotland from Boston for a funeral and had the occasion to visit The Rambler of Torrence based on a friends recommendation. From the initial greeting by the owner, Stephen, to the excellent service and food, it was by far out best experience in Scotland for dining. We have been over several times for different occasions and only regret is that we found this excellent restaurant on our last night in Scotland. Personal recommendations include both the sirloin, filet and mussel chowder. Also, do not leave without trying the best white coffee in the country. Came here following a local funeral and was impressed at the spread provided in terms of quantity and quality. The staff were very attentive and busy with the numbers present and in other areas of the restaurant diners were still being attended to in style. A nice atmosphere and a bright ground floor area. The car park at the back is a bit odd in that space only exists really for a single row, but some folk were parking up, whilst others were parking down the ways, which meant that the onus is on you and others not to block people in.

I think this pub/restaurant falls between two stools. Is it a local boozer (which it was for decades)? Or is it a decent destination gastro-pub (which it aspires to be).So, on entering, it is slightly disconcerting to be engaged in questioning by the local imbibers, a bit like the scene in a Western Film where the piano player stops playing as you, the stranger, enter the Town Saloon! I am sure they are all really nice people and would make you most welcome in conversation, but it does seem like it is "their pub" and you are an intruder.Steak pie was good, veg ok. Apple tart great. So worth visiting again for fod.Next time I will not shave, wear a brown poncho and a cowboy hat whilst smoking a cheroot, then quietly sneer at the residents! Think Clint.

Saturday evening and the restaurant only had 2 other people in.Had Steak pie and asked for chips instead of new potatoes. Steak pie filling was very dry, macerated and had little taste, so had to ask for some gravy. My wife had a beefburger which came on it's own in a bun, along with 3 very greasy onion rings and enough skinny fries to feed the five thousand. Also tasteless relish on side. Chef asked if we enjoyed meal. Told him what we thought. He said nobody else had complained and that the steak filling is cooked for five hours which may be why it was macerated. He said he didn't cook the onion rings so did not comment. Received bill to find I was charged £2.50 extra for the chips. On querying was told that it was an extra charge as I had requested chips. After explaining I had asked if I could have chips instead of new potatoes they agreed to remove the charge. Will not be going back again.

No menu suitable for the kids, told only chicken nuggets and chips for kids. My husband and oldest sons meal arrived,i looked at there plates and could tell the potatoes were a well known brand of the frozen variety. Me and the two kids had to wait a further 10 mins for our food. I ordered the chicken wrapped in prosciutto with a white wine sauce. Sauce wasn't good not cooked properly and the chicken was dry. To be fair the staff staff did apologise for the service as they seemed a bit harassed and we didn't get charged for the chicken nuggets and chips and a bowl of chips but to pay £15 per person for one two course meal and two main courses was quite poor.
