The Ram Newark in Newark and Sherwood

After 20 minutes walking around to try and find somewhere open late in the evening I came across the Ram The food was really great. Nice and simple menu of what you’d expect from a local pub but high quality ingredients and exceptionally well made Above everything, the service was fantastic, both staff where warm and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and couldn’t fault any part of the meal Thank you for making me feel welcome

My friends and I (think Last of the Summer Wine) went for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good food, coffee and service. We will be back and I would stronly recommend it.

Had the most amazing roast dinner here today. One veggie, one meat. Outstanding food, lovely staff, highly recommended.

Just the right atmosphere for all age groups....food reasonably priced.. was served by a very nice young man called George who was an asset to the pub ....definitely front of house and friendly....thumbs up from me xx

Tapas was OK. Portions were OK. Staff nice. Would I return? Probably not. Bill 90 quid for 3. So overall not terrible but not great either.

My companions liked The Ram well enough but I didn't find much in the way of vegan/vegetarian options.

The service is amazing people working here are very polite and helpful,love the breakfast at this place,came to have lunch and ordered Salmon Nicoice which is on the menu as main food, so I was disappointed when they bring me a bowl of salad instead,cos in the menu it doesn't say that it's cold salad, I don't think that can be classified as a main food, a snack,a starter, and a salad bowl yessss but unfortunately this is not a main food. As well the sauce on Caesar salad wasn't fresh tasted more like fish sauce. Thank you.

The staff and service are exceptional. The menu whilst small was amazing. We had three different menu choices and the food was quite simply incredible, perfecly cooked, presented and beautiful tasting. A very decent drinks selection. The staff were friendly and we were made to feel welcome the second we stepped through the door.

We hired out the function room for our wedding on 15th June 2024. The two ladies on the bar were quick, attentive and fun. The food was delicious but if your family eat as much as ours did order a little extra. The Ram team helped clean the room and left our belongings in a nice pile for us to collect the next day. We were asked many times if everything was okay and if they could do anything else. Excellent venue for a wedding at the Newark registry office.

Really nice food, friendly staff and good music. Was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night.

Took advantage of the breakfast deal yesterday, food was excellent,the service was friendly and professional. The sun was out so we sat in the courtyard at the back. This is definitely the best place for breakfast in Newark

Great service and friendly. Slightly odd that an establishment that attempts to be high end does not have their staff dress appropriately. The lumberjack at the bar had me confused. .

Large clean restaurant with smartly dressed staff and good food. Had the roast pork which was very tasty just needed a little more gravy to mop it all up. Had a busy bar garden at the back.

We went as a family celebrating a birthday. Our waitress was lovely and friendly. I had the duck which was delicious. Unfortunately the others who had the burgers were a little disappointed as the patties were a tad overdone. Loved the atmosphere.

Went for breakfast. Food was nicely done but could have done with being a bit hotter. 5 of us so maybe had been left in the side while the other were being finished. Just personal choice. Service very good. Friendly young man served us. Place could do with being a bit warmer as we were all a bit cold. Maybe because it was just after they had opened and it heats up as the day goes on

Bad customer service, was sitting down for 20 minutes with nobody paying attention or purposely ignoring I ordered the tapas, when the food arrived the individual portion sizes were tiny (not enough for me, even though the server stated it would be enough) along with the food being overpriced. Additionally, the food was overly greasy and poorly served

Didn't have food but other diners looked happy. Great table service, better quality wine than other places. A selection of cosy log fires to be near.

After waiting an hour and a half for my food despite the restaurant being empty my food with inedible. My mum and myself both ordered the steak and after waiting over an hour with no explanation of where our food was when it finally arrived the chips where cold and stale and salad dried out and stating to go off and the steaks themselves where inaccurately cooked, bland, and tough. The bite in which I had was chewy and gritty with the meat itself being tough and dry. The waiting staff offered no compassion or explanation. My mother ended up paying £60 for a bite of steak and 2 chips

I visit here once a month for food because it is amazing. My parents recently hired the function room upstairs for their wedding reception. We had a meal, DJ, dancing, photographer, music and shots lol. Amazing restaurant/pub.

Was in unexpectedly tonight with kids after a hectic day at work. Lovely staff on shift. The young very smart guy looked after us, exceptional customer service. He actually acknowledged the children, which i find most places don't. Food was fast and great. My only qualm would be i wish there was an option or 2 for children. Not all kids can have cheese so pizza is a no no, the other dishes are beyond a childs taste, unless they eat fish, although they're amazing for adults!!! (Maybe it's my kids that won't eat the stroganoff or things with a beaut sauce and mushrooms). I've been a couple of times now and food is so consistent, it will definitely be my first port of call for food out when in town, probably not with the little people in toe. Wish i got the persons name who looked after us. Excellent staff member!

Had Sunday Lunch on 7th January. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful taking a drinks order and allowing us time to browse the food menu. Both had Sunday lunch which was very nice. They brought our dog a bowl of water and small things like this make all the difference. Well worth a visit and trying the food out at the Ram.

Lovely food, staff friendly and service is quick. Needs a little more atmosphere, possibly due to the very spaced and against the wall seating plan? Outside seating is nice, especially in summer.

Rushed out after 10:50 pm, bouncer rushes you to hurry up after spending £23 for 4 drinks!

Everything about this was first class. Everyone so helpful and friendly and we were two while the had possibly two parties in but we were still served with their grace and professionalism. Big thank you

as a birthday treat from my brother. we booked in for Sunday lunch well what a let down .It took twenty minutes before we was asked if we wanted a drink from the bar. I decided to go for the beef and my brother had the chicken I can say the beef was inedible. the roast potatoes were definitely not cooked fresh that day the chicken was better but only just decided not to have the sweet menu was not worth the risk .we asked for the bill that came just short of £60 pounds what a rip off. never again

Excellent food drink and surroundings, up market type of bar, great for wedding reception and stay over. It is warm and cosy with the log fire, nicely furnished, food looked great and very tasty. Table service, staff excellent.

Ordered a drink at the bar,was told by the barman that the drinks would be brought to our table but totally forgot us and went to serve a group of girls that came in after us. JOKE! left and won't be visiting again!

Very nice food with a decent choice on the menu from meat meals to fish. I can see why so many rate the Ram at Newark for its food menu. Bitter seemed slightly overpriced at £4.80 a pint compared to some places though.

We only had a bottle of wine, whilst stood at the bar, three members of staff stopped and asked if was being served, in this day and age this is Golden!! The staff are on point. This is how you keep customers, I will return and sample the food next time. Well done team, great customer service.

We really enjoyed the Ram. It was a really hot day and the outside courtyard space was much appreciated. The service was really good - very friendly and reliable. The food was delicious - me and my dad had the pork belly which melted in the mouth, but the bubble and squeak on the plate was even tastier. The only thing I could say to improve is if they could ban smoking in the courtyard - the nature of the courtyard means cigarette smoke gets trapped and is unpleasant for the non-smoking guests.

lovely, friendly good service. Have the pork belly, it took a while but the waitress told us it would - it's a slow cook dish. Worth the wait for sure. The two mains and a bottle of wine deal on Tuesdays and Fridays is a bargain. Clean pub, lovely outside area, nicer than it looks from the front.

The ladies group I am with go for breakfast coffee mornings. Very friendly staff and a great pace to meet up. I've been for evening meals 😋 delicious food, and fabulous cocktails 🍸

Favourite place in Newark for lunch

Having walked around Newark looking for somewhere to eat, we settled for the Ram as it seemed the most welcoming and had a good looking and varied menu. We were instantly greeted with a warm welcome from the bar staff. The service throughout was brilliant - I unfortunately didn’t get the lads name that served us (dark hair and glasses), but he is a credit to your business. He was attentive throughout and really polite. If back in the area we will be sure to visit again.

Had a voucher so decided to try Sunday lunch l had chicken partner had beef very nicely presented chicken was very nice but partner wasn't so keen on beef a lot of staff about who kept coming to ask if everything was alright wouldn't have Sunday lunch again but will go for breakfast sometime as the menu looks good

Very nice top floor room for 100 guests. Has its own door for going outside for a vape which leads into the pubs beer garden out the back via some steps. Reasonable drinks prices and very good staff/barstaff No complaints at all from my daughters wedding party. 5*

Food was a bit dry but good value for money

Made welcome from the moment we walked in.

Very tasteful pub opposite Newark Castle. very good location. delicious drinks are served . In the winter it is climatically by the fireplace. The fireplace there is definitely on +. Nice to sit by the fireplace to eat or drink something. I would recommend more German and Czech beer. because they are definitely the best. The only downside to this pub is that there is no happy hour for drinks . In these times it would definitely work and more customers.

Went for Sunday afternoon food with a family member who lives in the area. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the place has a nice feel to it. We ordered drinks, and this is when it all went a bit downhill. The young staff memeber came to our table with the tray of drinks, then dropped them on the table, the whole lot went all over my partner soaking her through. The staff member was clearly upset and couldn't apologise enough. Accidents happen. We didn't kick up a fuss as the server was clearly upset and didn't want to make it worse for her. My partner spent the next 10 or 15 minutes in the toilet trying to dry her clothes. We were moved tables and brought another round of drinks, one of which was incorrect. Again, we just ordered another drink and kept the wrong one. Food was ordered which came in reasonable time, my son had pizza which he enjoyed, my partner and i had large Ram Burgers, both of which were reasonable, but not amazing for £13. We enjoyed the food even though my partner had to sit in wet and sticky clothes that smelled of beer. I went to pay for the food, which came to around £65, we didn't get a breakdown of the bill but a receipt. My partner worked out what we had been charged for back at the table and found we had been charged full price on the bill. Not even a drink knocked off the bill for my partner for the inconvenience of having to eat in wet clothes. We probably should have brought this up, but my partner just wanted to leave. Not the best first impression of a place, although you wouldn't expect this on every visit.

Didn't like being told to sit at table to get drink soon as you walk indoor over priced

I had a bacon cob which was disgusting, the bacon was overcooked, burnt and difficult to eat. I also had a latte and a watered down orange juice. For all of this I was charged £12.65!! I won't be going there to eat again!

Service was great, food was enjoyed by friend and the place itself is really nice. I felt very comfortable and immediately at home, which is what I personally like. Only issue was something that didn't affect me personally, which was seeing you had no ramp access for the gentleman in a wheelchair to enter. However, you're employees found a way around this and helped the gentleman in using a side entrance. That was very nice to see.

The staff were great, and the setting is nice. The food was disappointing, though. Will maybe give it another go with something different on the menu.

Went there for Mothers Day. The food was so so, ok but nothing special. Service was OK. Music a little loud especially with an elderly mum.

Absolutely amazing and beautiful place. We saw 2 real fireplaces, brilliant customer service, the food was sumptuous, and the toilets, sooo clean, so spotless, zero odour. I gave a £5 tip just to appreciate how clean the toilet was. Wish I lived closer.

Pros: - Excellent service, very friendly and attentive staff - Short wait times for food and drinks Neutral points: - Reasonably nice decor & ambience - Food was good, but not exceptional Cons: - Very expensive, without the high quality food to match. We paid £86 for 4 drinks, 2 mains and 2 desserts. We have had much better food elsewhere for under £40. - Dessert was disappointing Overall 3/5 - Not bad, but a definite lack of value. They should either raise their game OR lower their prices.

waiting very long time after order then i received a cold and dry steak. The quality is not deserve with it's price.

Went in for an afternoon feast with my mum and we got some tapas to share along with a bottle of wine. The food was lovely. We had halloumi fries, patatas bravas, gambas pilpil, pork belly, lamb samosas and some calamari. Staff were very attentive as they were coming to the table every ten minutes to see if everything was okay. Will be back again soon.
