The Rake & Riddle in Swansea

Went in for the food on Saturday with family and couldn't of been happier! Even though they were really busy, we were given a seat upstairs, added bonus was the play area for the kids which they loved! Food and service was amazing! Great menu and new chef spot on. Would definitely return and recommend

My partner hated hated this dump. Money paid out to eat poor quality food that tasted like something a dog wouldnt even eat. Heard they had new chef and he worst than any of them!

Chosen for dinner with daughter and grandsons as staying nearby. Extensive menu including some local delicacies (both food and beer!). Children’s menu had plenty of choices. Service was attentive and helpful. Food was all very tasty and arrived promptly. We would all happily have returned for further meals but this was our last night in Wales!

Not the first time we've been here as a family and as usual, an excellent value for money experience. So much better than chain restaurants in terms of quality and quantity. We will be back!

Okay location, easy to get to with plenty of free parking around the back. Close to the gower also. We went on the Sunday and had a roast dinner. Food was good, not excellent but was served hot and quickly.

We stopped in the car park in our camper van, a bit of a slope but nice flat pitches. The food was excellent. There is a good range of options for vegetarians. It was the first time I have had an onion bhaji on top of a veggie burger. It sounds strange but it worked. Staff were very friendly, an ideal stop off for exploring The Gower. You need to call beforehand to let them know if you want to park overnight.

Excellent Sunday lunch. The service was first class. Plenty of a variety of vegatables. Would have brought more if needed.

Sunday lunch here very poor. Disorganised staff didn’t have a clue what was going on, almost threw the food at you and aggressively asked if the meal was enjoyed. Food very poor, all frozen including the meats, tasteless cauliflower cheese and over spiced red cabbage, hard roast potatoes and cold swede. Deserts very average, cheesecake was still frozen. Don’t waste your money here there are very good places nearby including The Crofty

What an incredible experience. When we walked in I thought "This is nice" then were told and shown the restaurant was downstairs. Full Maitre'd service on presenting and all the serving staff were so pleasant, professional and smart it was amazing. My sister and I had deep fried cockles for the 'while you wait' nibbles and they were beautiful. Honestly though one would have been enough for us to share, and this is only a very minor point, but maybe advertise it is a huge portion. But taste-wise, they are incredible and you just can't help yourself but demolish them. Laverbread, cockles and bacon turine thing for starter was wonderful, and not just that, the side salad on the slate plate was beautiful as well and I gobbled it all up. I had lamb burger for main. By that point I was rather full and couldn't finish the sweet potato fries and the especially inventive house coleslaw I'd ordered, however I gave it my best go as it was all superb. The burger was incredibly smooth and tasty, and as bad as I feel for seeing the animals 'out there', they can rest assure that they are beautifully cooked and presented. Superlative, I can't describe the experience any other way. The ambience, the food, the service. The staff are so genial and helpful, and they genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. I can't wait to come back.

We visited on Jan 30th mid afternoon. It was so helpful that we could bring our well behaved dog along, as we had been on a long walk beforehand, and this was on our way home. We had three courses and the quality / portion size of our meals was perfect. We particularly enjoyed the main courses of lamb burger and Gower chicken. Staff were very friendly and it was a lovely afternoon. Thank you!

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. The staff seemed indifferent and inattentive, engaging in casual chatting while ignoring my table. The food delivery was painfully slow, making the overall dining experience frustrating

Sat downstairs in the restaurant for a birthday meal. Portions were generous and tasty, as far as pub grub goes, but this definitely isn't gourmet. The atmosphere was the major let down. Music kept blasting on and then cutting off. Scruffy kitchen staff walking around in tracksuits. Unprofessional service. Resturant was also empty which didn't help with the atmosphere. A shame to see this place go downhill. At least the food itself was okay.

Firstly we had the 'trick' of the restaurant serving you a large glass of wine when you have in fact asked for a medium. A good way for them to make a bit more money.Menu was very uninspiring unfortunately. I went for Hunter's Chicken with chips and my husband went for Thai chicken curry.My chips were clearly cooked in old oil as I could taste the flavours of all sorts of other food on them. My husband was served vegetable Thai curry (instead of chicken) which obviously led to a delay in our proper meals being served.There was no Pinot Grigio as they had run out! Really poor.

This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff are all really friendly. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is awsum, and for their prices it’s 100% worth it.

Went for lunch yesterday with a friend and her nearly 3 year old daughter. Sat upstairs in the marquee and both ordered the Rake and Riddle burger which we both thoroughly enjoyed! Ordered a child margarita pizza for the little one which was delicious! The play area, while reduced in size to accommodate the marquee for guests to sit under cover, was lovely and very safe. We will definitely be back very soon!

Arranged to meet friends for a meal as we arrived a little earlier myself and my daughter went in and ordered a drink through the app, there were one other couple sitting in the restaurant, it was very quiet, as we sat and chatted waiting for our friends to arrive we noticed that they had been placed to sit on the other side of the restaurant. They came and joined us at our table and we all ordered food through the app individually as families, there different orders but within minutes of each other, the first order came within 5 minutes, the second order came 25 minutes later cold and bland, the knives and forks were wrapped in wet serviettes, the third order didn’t arrive for another 50 minutes and that was only when we asked where it was, it obviously wasn’t cooked as they knew nothing about it, during our time waiting it was like being in Fawlty towers as the staff were smashing glasses constantly behind the bar and being so quiet we could hear everything, no plates were cleaned from our table during our visit, it was an absolute shambles, we visited on a quiet night I would dread to think of what it would be like on a busy night, I don’t think I would visit again or recommend it to anyone.

this place has so much potential to be incredible but not for the first time it was shockingly bad! service was slow and extremely unwelcoming! food was overcooked and bland! prices are obscene and to top it all off the table was dirty and obviously hadn't been sanitized properly! This was 100% my last visit to the rake and riddle!

Visited the downstairs restaurant on a wet Saturday night for a family members special anniversary meal. Left extremely disappointed by the length of time to deliver our food - 3.5 hours for a 2 course meal? Other customers arrived after we had placed our order and were being served their main courses before us. The menu was limited and pricey for what we received but on a positive note it did taste lovely. The restaurant itself was rammed full of people and the room very hot and stuffy - till the air con was started. Having visited previous prior to the pandemic days no tables appeared to have been removed but extra screen strategically placed between some adjacent tables. We felt sorry for our waitress who never stopped smiling and did her best under dire circumstances to look after us, and despite asking how much longer would food be at no time did a supervisor or manager approach us or offer an apology but just left it to this poor girl. Due to the lengthy delay with food we then had to deal with tired and hungry young children and then an elderly aunt who became ill due to the length of time for food to arrive. Badly let down by the owners/management of the Rake & Riddle who seem to put profit before safety and customer service. After being regular customers in the past we will not be returning

Me and my partner visited the rake and riddle for the second time for food and the drive in cinema on the 19th May, the service and food was amazing! I highly rate this place! I will be visiting again soon. Thank you to all the staff at the rake and riddle.

Service was great, play area was nice for children, and covid regs good. I'm sorry I just don't rate the food though. I had Cajun salmon salad. Genuinely couldn't tell it was Cajun, the salad was more like a side salad and it came with ciabbatta which it didn't mention. It also never mentioned olives but they were sprinkled all over. Didn't get any of the curry flavour it promised either. It was mediocre at best, I've been once before and have the same opinion....overpriced for what is essentially a pretty unmemorable cheapy pub meal.

Disappointed We had planned our first night out for dinner for a while for my partners birthday. Our waitress was fantastic and attentive, the food was average but warm and fresh. The covered areas out side were full of drunks they clearly had stayed for longer than the two hour government guidelines. They were loud and disruptive and we couldn’t even hear one another talk. If we wanted a booze up we would have gone to Gowerton rugby club not the Rake and Riddle. I appreciate the world is getting back to normal and I have no issue in people have a good time but it just spoilt our evening!!!!!!!!!!!!

The staff and food were absolutely fantastic! We were first put on a table in the more ‘busy’ area, when we asked to moved they found us a table straight away. Given the circumstances i think they are doing a brilliant job, reading previous reviews of people moaning about people drinking there etc I think it’s brilliant! Nice to see the business is back making money even in this crappy weather. Food was delicious and came out fast, we had problems with the app but the staff were happy enough to come to the table to take our order. Every member of staff was more happy to help us! Very pleased with my first meal back there and I can’t wait to return. Keep up the fantastic work! :)

I was looking forward to my first evening out in ages. We were celebrating my friend’s 60th, and whilst it was lovely to meet up, the evening was a bit shambolic! The app used to order food was glitchy to say the least! As it was only the second night of opening., I hope it’s just teething problems. Two orders didn’t go through at the same time as everybody else and though we asked that the food would all come together, it didn’t . This meant some meals were finished before others had even been delivered to the table, which was an hour and a half after arriving and initially ordering! . The food was ok. A pared down menu which is understandable, given the circumstances. We did get free coffees for all the troubles, , but only after asking for them! Not sure I’ll go again for a while, but I might give it another go after given them time to sort the app.

Food is terrible , the only taste is from salt, Garlic bread no garlic and greasy, burger just tasted of salt, kids baked beans look and taste awful Stay away!

Visited lunchtime today with my husband and 2 teenage grandsons. We had meals off the festive lunchtime specials menu. Prices were so reasonable with 1 course at just £8. We had the Turkey dinner. They were tasty, piping hot and the Turkey and vegetables were of a high quality. The 6oz rump and Turkey burger were served with a generous portion of gorgeous chips. The service was efficient and friendly. I can’t believe they can offer this excellent food at such low prices.My only complaint was l couldn’t have a glass of wine to accompany it!I would highly recommend this local restaurant.

Fantastic food and equally wonderful service. Slight mix up with drinks and we received a sincere apology and not charged for them. Will definitely be back again soon.

Just 3 days open after lockdown and it’s like they never closed. Everything running smoothly, staff as friendly and attentive as ever and the food was superb. Supreme of chicken with the most delicate leek sauce, accompanied by dauphinois potato (+wilted greens) cooked to perfection. The chocolate and amaretto semifreddo finished things off perfectly. No short cuts, no gimmicks, just well thought out menu and perfectly prepared food. Couldn’t ask for more on a rainy Thursday night.

Had a takeaway dinner from the rake and riddle, wasn’t up to scratch. I do believe they have changed the chef. The pork was tasteless seemed like pre packaged slices of pork. Parsnips where rock hard. Gravy was watery better off if I didn’t put the gravy on very disappointing

Visited Rake and Riddle in Penclawdd (in fact still there now) and had lovely service. Food and Drink were lovely and reasonably priced. You will not beat their stakes. Definately worth a visit.

I had heard a few bads things about the restaurant since opening so I was a little nervous. However I was pleased with what I saw. Outdoor seating seems to be a few meters apart. The seating inside the downstairs restaurant was roughly the same, minus a few tables but with added protection, causing each table to be a booth.The food was lovely and presented well definitely not not slapped on the plate, we couldn't fault it. Would definitely go a back in the future!

Food arrived before Our drinks which never gives me great confidence, on this occasion the food was not very hot.9/10 you normally get asked if the meal is ok not today.I ate half the meal finished our drinks and still no table service.As we had paid for the food via the app we just left.Doubt we will eat here again.

Recently had our first visit after wanting to try it out for a long time as we often drive past this place.The food menu is good with a lot of options. I went for the cockles starter which was really good and excellent value and my main was the burger they did there which was decent. My partner had the duck main which was disappointingly small, was not very filling for my partner although it did taste good and looked great. But when we go out for food I like to go to a place and have a dinner that fills us. I'm presuming the other main like the cod wich is set by the menu of the duck will also be similar size. The kids food was a very generous potion and they really enjoyed their meals. Staff were all friendly and helpful, the place itself is in a nice location and well kept and looks good inside.

Finally tried the Rake and Riddle after recommendations from colleagues and I can't believe I've missed out on this gem of a restaurant for so long.Service was fantastic. Our waitress Julie was super friendly, came to check if our food was okay several times and was really efficient.In terms of covid precautions... tables were spaced out, there was hand sanitiser and staff were wearing masks at all times, really impressed.I had the duck breast in blackberry jus and my partner had the carbonara which was on the specials board. Food was delicious, meat was cooked to perfection and we cleared the lot.Just a shame we were too full to fit in a dessert.

Wasn’t sure about risking this place after reading the most recent negative reviews - glad we did. Perhaps the negativity is coming from the upstairs ‘bar and grill’ which seemed a bit like an upmarket McDonald’s? The downstairs is lovely, the food was incredible, service excellent and lots of effort made to adhere to social distancing. Really can’t fault it, can’t wait to come back

We came here out of luck on our way back from the sunflower fields, we were greeted by such a nice lady who showed us to our table in the main restaurant which is just beautifully decorated, to the food we ordered the deep fried cockles and the bread and oil to start they were wow the cockles were perfect, mains we had the fillet of steak which was cooked to perfection at mr I can’t put into words how nice it was and the home made chips just yum!! My wife had the supreme of chicken which couldn’t of been cooked any better!! The desserts were lovely both of us had the tirumusu which was spot on especially with the gower gelato which accompanied them.Overall this was a perfect visit for food and the staff were all very nice and very helpful.

First time visit and what a fab experience. Due to Covid there weren’t as many people in as I’m sure there normally would be but that did not detract from the experience. Staff really helpful and friendly as well as being efficient. Julie was our waitress and she went out of her way to make sure everything was as it should be. The whole place was spotless and social distancing adhered to.The food ..... absolutely stunning from the bread olives and popcorn cockles picky bits right through to the beautiful desserts, all cooked and presented to perfection. I really cannot recommend this place highly enough. Not cheap but worth every penny.

We have eaten here many times in the restaurant and the food has always been good. On this occasion however the whole family were disappointed. We had booked for 12.30pm and promptly placed our order. By 1.30pm I asked the waitress if she could find out what was happening and eventually our food arrived. Unfortunately one of the meals was not what had been ordered and had to go back. By now, it was 10 to 2 and we’d been informed we only had the table until 2.30pm!. All our meals were below the usual standard and most of our meals were served between tepid - lukewarm!! We didn’t want to send them back as time by now was passing.We asked to order desert at the same time as my son in law was eating his food as by the time the correct order came out everyone else had long finished theirs and by now we’d anticipated a long wait for them.We would have preferred to have left the desert but unfortunately the portion size of the meals left us all in need of something for us to feel satisfied!!!The deserts!!!!!! £6.50 each and they were awful. The tiramisu did not in any way resemble this desert that I’ve had on numerous occasions. It was dry, tacky and ‘artificial’ tasting , served on a mound of crumbled cheap chocolate which just exacerbated the dryness of the desert. The other deserts (cheesecakes) were of similar quality. Finally, on receiving the bill we’d been overcharged By £10 which to be fair was quickly rectified. As it was eat out to help out scheme we had £60 deducted off our bill which meant we paid £63 grudgingly!!!! Only 1 alcohol serving in this.If however we had been paying full price £122+ we would have at the very least expected a refund on the wrong meal being served .Not good value for money even with discounted prices. I sincerely hope that this experience was a one off but it has left us feeling reluctant to visit again in the near future.

Had a lovely lunch outside. The new app to order food and drinks was easy to use and did not have to wait long for either. Only had jacket potato but it was nice and hot. Social distancing was excellent and found no problems with the service. Will definitely be returning again

In fairness to start with I have always been a fan of the Restauarnt and have in the past always been very impressed but my last visit was a little disappointing!!!I appreciate the world has changed and things are very difficult for the hospitality industry but I don't appreciate being barked at by a member of staff who had left their post outside at the entrance especially when it doesn't say 'please wait here' etc!!!!!Once inside we were left to our own devices to try and fathom out the Menu App and when they incorrect drinks were sent across and we tried to explain that they were wrong we were told in a very rude manner that it was our fault, what!!!!!The food was acceptable but the awful customer service defiantly spoilt the afternoon which was a real shame!!!

First of all, the service is awful. We ordered drinks which then took 25 minutes to come, bearing in mind they were sat on the bar the whole time with the staff doing nothing, just standing around. Then a member of my table had to get up and get the drinks themselves because no one was bringing them. By the time we got our drinks the ice in our glasses had melted which shows how long they had been there. When the food came, most of the chips were barely warm and my order was wrong. They were making us order using the website, which was long and it takes ages, however they were still serving us the food and drinks next to our tables so why couldn’t they take our order? It’s clearly not to do with social distancing because when they were serving us our food so they should’ve taken our order from the table.Overall, will not be coming again.

Been here on numerous occasions and never had cause to complain about a meal until today. The food was cold, we sent some back which returned warm. Chips had to be returned as they were cold. Last time we were there the chips were excellent not the skinny frozen ones. In fairness, the waitresses were excellent, pity about the kitchen.

Been here in numerous occasions and never had cause to fault the meal until this evening.Chose to sit upstairs because we had children with us abd easier for them to go and play.You've got to order everything in the app including drinks.Our meals came and we noticed we had frozen chips not the usual home made ones that we had the week before when we ate downstairs.I asked the reason and the manager said its easier because we are serving 900 meals since lockdown.Meals were basic and prices increased by £2 and still frozen chips.Obviously trying to get the money back they lost during lockdown by cutting corners.Heard a few bad reviews and regardless we tried it.We as family will no be returning.Gone to look untidy outside too.Think thry will be losing a lot of custom.

We had a meal here while staying locally on holiday. The food was all very nice. Nice selection of children’s meals too, not just everything with chips like some other places. However, I would only give 3 stars due to the very very slow service. We don’t want to be rushed along, but this was very slow. Another issue was the lack of desserts. There was a choice of just two things. Staff were all nice (just slow!) and the main courses we all had very nice and arrived hot.

We absolutely love coming here. Everything about this place is just spot on - the modern decor, the friendly staff and the fantastic food. The outdoor area is great for families too. We have been here several times and thought the arrangements for COVID were done very well.

So very dissapointed to be writing this review. My first meal out to one of my favourite pre lock down restaurants should of been a real treat but what a dissapointment.The floor was stinking, sticky and remains of the table previously sitting there. Staff were friendly but seemed inexperienced which wasnt ideal. Food was a long way from what it was previosuly. everything just seemed slapped on the plate and luke warm at best.. Maybe a change in chef? I know the eat out scheme is in place to help the food sector get back on its feet but it really felt as if it was a fast food restaurnt just wanting us in and out as quick as possible to get the next table in. The biggest issue i had was the complete lack of social distancing going on. it really didnt feel particuarly safe in there. This might of been some what because i've been shielding for four months and wasn't use to the number of people there was in a small area. sadly i dont see myself returning and would advice anyone nervous about dining out in these testing and unsure times to think carefully about dining here themselves.

Myself and 10 of my family members went for a family meal yesterday on arrival the girl was lovely and put us to our table.On arrival to the table we noticed food all over the floor and asked for it to be cleaned, which it was.Ordered our food wanted starters and desserts as stated on their website they didn’t have any. Food came out bit by bit, no cutlery or salt and vinegar had to ask after about 5 minutes of food being out. One meal missing had to ask about it they realized they had forgotten so it came later. Food was ok had much nicer there. I know meals are half price and we are currently going through difficulties but we have eaten in many places the last few weeks and haven’t felt this disappointed, can’t see why this is an excuse for poor quality. There was a total lack of staff and I felt sorry for the ones who were trying their best all very young.Probably won’t go back in a while.

Staff: The kindest lady greets you front of house, happy and cheerful and she can’t do enough to welcome you in! Staff are wearing face coverings - but you can feel her smile! She’s great. Once seated she explains new QR code menu and your all set to order! Food: Cajun chicken salad & falafel salads are 10/10 - grilled flavoursome chicken on a bed of fresh salad with a complimentary baguette. Falafels with grilled vegetables are so delicious. Partner loves the gammon steak - 3rd time he’s happy ordered it! Sweet potatoe fries only £1 extra - and they are worth it. Drinks: smugglers (gower cider) recommended and great choice of other draughts!Seriously love coming her and relaxing outside - it feels like your “at home” with friends, the vibe is so good! Great place for children to play whilst you enjoy some drinks too! 5* staff!

Well I'm wondering whether I ate at the same restaurant as some of these reviews. First of all I was greeted by a very condisending young girl, there was very little evidence that covid ever existed. We watched the waiting staff clearing tables with no washing of tables before others were seated. very few masks, in fact I asked why there were so few masks worn and was informed it was too hot and uncomfortable. Why couldn't vjsers be worn as I've seen in other establishments? I certainly did not feel safe. I know that these times are difficult but the basics were not covered. Distancing also non exsistant which was demonstrated on many occasions. Very worrying. Food wise not much better and certainly nothing compared to the photos shown o the website. All in all a really bad experience.

It is with a very heavy heart that I right this review on my experience at the Rake and Riddle, Penclawdd.An extremely disappointing visit on Tuesday teatime. Covid safety measures were totally lacking. We observed tables being vacated and NOT cleaned. On asking a member of staff why so few of them were wearing masks the response we were given was that it was 'to warm'! The meal itself was poor and appeared to have been thrown onto the plates!. After visiting other eateries and experiencing their covid safety measures,I feel the Rake and Riddle is most dangerous.I would not visit here again and certainly never recommend.

First meal out after lockdown. It was worth the wait . Had the Bass what flavours best I’ve eaten highly recommend The only downfall were the chairs not very comfy but the food did make up for it.

Four friends dine out. COVID system in place. Steaks and fish mains with crumble and ice cream deserts, all enjoyed and empty plates to prove it. The staff are lovely and very helpful.

Excellent venue for families. The playground is really good for kids. There’s an great choice on the menu. All the food was really well cooked, well presented and good value. The staff are all fantastic, I can’t praise them enough for their quality service.

Family meal arranged on Thursday 6th Aug, their first evening with new menu after lockdown.Service was excellent, food just as good, great meal to celebrate my sons 16th birthday.Waitresses really knew their stuff regarding the menu even though it was new, nothing too much of an issue and all this with COVID restrictions in place.Wish it was nearer home as it would be a regular place for family celebrations

We ate at the rake n riddle last night for the first time and the food was great on the whole but someone in our group ordered the buffalo calzone it looked huge but was a bit disappointing due to it being far too hot and looked like it had used Tabasco sauce insideWas expecting grilled buffalo chicken with a tomato sauce .Perhaps change the sauce or notify people how hot it isBut everything else was good

Had a great meal at the rake and riddle. Ashley was first class he made room for me and my daughter whilst sticking to the social distancing rules. Great food great service good even better staff

Had a super lunch here with friends. The food, service and drinks were tremendous, ordered through the website and then delivered to your table. A must if you’re anywhere near.

We were pre booked for outside. We were sat on a bench ( had a lady in her 70s with us) not comfortable at all, no cushion offered for older member of our group, and extremely noisy right by kids play park. Horrid really, not relaxing.Order by phone fine.I plus one other, had vegetarian calzon, literally bland and tasteless, the veg inside was wet, cooked with no taste, just nasty and the casing was chewy. Neither of us enjoyed it at all. My daughter had a pizza, she said it was OK, nothing special.My partner did enjoy his burger.When they brought the food my daughter asked for a glass of water that never turned up neither did anyone to.ask how the meals were. No one around at all to speak to about the poor flavourless meals.Three of us woukd never go back, nasty bland food and poor thought and service. Yes I do.appreciate its difficult times but don't open if you can't preform the basic functions of decent food and thoughtful service.

Pre-booked & on arrival we were immediately offered a choice of seats.Excellent service with QR Code easy to access & all explained by front of house assistant. All COVID-19 recommendations were followed & we felt very safe.Meals were ordered & served promptly & with a ‘smile through the face-mask’. Advice with menus was all accurate & the food was delicious. House Burger & Tandoori Chicken kebab were both of excellent quality & value for money.(Please can you look at ‘No Vaping’ policy in the outdoor seated/covered area).Good experience all round!

Stopped off here and found the staff lovely. Food was lovely and great quality for a pub. Recommend it.

Last minute decision to visit Saturday afternoon. Was not disappointed. The patio was set out safely and although quite busy staff were pleasant and efficient. Ordered Greek salad cajun chicken salad and loaded fries. Didn't need the fries on the side. The salads were more than enough to fill you up and very tasty. Was a great afternoon enjoying a lovely meal during these strange times

Been 4 Times last few weeks and its been excellent. I was really disappoited to find Thai Chicken Skewers had changed. Totally different chicken skewer, tasted like boiled chicken on a stick, salad was hot, hot carrot strips, not nice at all.Under table was dirty in fact the whole patio looked like it need a good wash down. Under table was full of debris and seat covers are stinking.The biggest thing for sure for customers is Receipe Consistency, this did not happen today. Really disappoiting.

Brief visit during our stay at the Estuary Bar and Rooms - de orated to high standard, excellent food, friendly staff.

Today we ate from the lunch menu ...The portions were amazing.. there were no compromise because we chose from the lunch set menu.At 9.99 for 2 courses it was faultless... There service was professional and very friendly..I would highly recommend..I have eaten there many times before but never from the set menu.. We will be back.. Thank you..

I visited with friends on a cold, winter’s night. The Rake and Riddle was warm and welcoming, a real pleasure. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good and plentiful, great pub food.

Excellent Sunday Lunch choice of Beef Lamb and Pork all locally sourced also choice of one two or three courses was a little noisy due to family dinning on Sundays down stairs only Staff were friendly and pleasant

We in seated in the sports bar, which was very crowded. It is a small resturant and it seems that they want to fit as many people as possible in, so dont expect much room. Decent choice of food, unless you are a gluten free vegiterian !!! As someone who cannot eaten gluten, i have had better choice else where. The food however, was very good and the staff were very friendly. I did however, have only one choice of dessert that was gluten free.

Impromptu visit which was so rewarding. Not a lunch or dinner visit but in that void between the two. Nice ambiance with good music which was at the right level. Great service which was non intrusive and the food.... well wow! I love different takes on traditional food without being pretentious and it delivered in spade fulls. Already boosting come back. Thank you guys it was awesome x

This is my favourite restaurant, could not fault the food. Today let down by service. The one and only waitress aided by bar manager was a delight, but the restaurant was too busy for number of staff working . We felt so sorry for them.We were a party of four who had booked a table for 2 pm. Due to lack of staff there we were long waits for food. One of our party had a train to catch so we had to leave by 430. There for we had to leave before our coffees and Brandys that we were looking forward to.This place serves excellent food , hope this was a one off problem.

Have visited many times now and never disappoints good food friendly staff, prices a touch above the norm but nearly always of a high standard would definitely recommend The Sports Bar upstairs!!!!

Had a family meal here and heard great things but i must say i was left underwhelmed. The restaurant was quite cold and had a canteen like feel to it. Maybe its just the modern look and i'm a little old school. The food was decent, nothing to write home about and the service very much the same.

Every time I've been to The Rake & Riddle I have really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, great for the grandsons with the garden facilities and they do offer vegan food. Now the down side, I've been there many times and am really disappointed that it's still the same menu which is great if you eat everything but being a vegan the choice is very limited and therefore I end up eating the same thing every time. I can't stress enough that it's so easy to make a bean chilli, veggie or mushroom curry or even a lentil bolognase. Please can we see something different to try on the menu or a specials board.

We have frequented the Rake and Riddle for around 3 years,it has catered for some memorable family parties including significant ones!
