I wanted to take a moment to share the delightful experience our family had at The Raj of India on Saturday night. It was truly an evening to remember, filled with exquisite flavours, a warm ambience, and impeccable service. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with genuine hospitality and ushered to our table with care. The restaurant's décor exuded a charming blend of traditional and contemporary elements, creating an inviting atmosphere that immediately put us at ease. Now, onto the main event – the food. Every dish we sampled was a masterpiece with vibrant spices and expertly balanced flavours. From the delightful tikka masala to the sizzling meat platters, each bite celebrated authentic Indian cuisine at its finest. The chef's meticulous attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the meal, from the tender meats to the freshly ground spices. One dish that particularly stood out was the Raj special murgh masala, unlike anything we've ever tasted. The interplay of spices and textures was simply extraordinary, leaving us craving more with each forkful. Of course, no meal is complete without a selection of sides and accompaniments, and The Raj did not disappoint in this regard. The naan bread was light and fluffy, the chutneys were bursting with flavour, and the assorted pickles added a delightful tanginess to each bite. We had a jug of water to complement our meal, however you can bring your own drinks. Last but certainly not least, I must commend the staff at The Raj for their exceptional service throughout the evening. From our knowledgeable server who guided us through the menu with expertise to the attentive waitstaff who ensured our glasses were always full, every interaction was marked by warmth and professionalism. In conclusion, our dining experience at The Raj surpassed all expectations, making it a standout culinary destination in Caerphilly and North Cardiff.

Came here on a Friday evening, restaurant was fairly quiet, we had booked but probably didn’t need to. Menu was extensive, regular curries but also had chef specials. Starters were a good size and tasty (we had prawn puri and onion Bhaji). Staff were very attentive and generally nice people. Would definitely come back if we return to Caerphilly.

Been a loyal customer for many years, used to make the best tasting food. Only reason for my rating is because it appears the food isn’t what it used to be. Lately it’s watery curry sauces, chicken not so good, soggy chips and stale poppadoms. Very gutted to be writing this review as they have been my go to every single week for years. But unfortunately the standards continue to drop

We visited the Raj of India following a friend's recommendation, and it was such a good decision! The food was truly amazing: delicious, fresh and full of flavour. The components of every dish are made fresh and this comes through in the ultimate flavour of the dish. Particular recommendations are the Special Biryani and Murgh Sagwala, but every dish from starter through to dessert was delicious. You must try the 3 flavour kulfi for dessert too! And all this with a great atmosphere and extremely friendly, helpful staff made the experience a winning one! Looking forward to returning soon.

As always fantastic service, the service is always the best I have had from any restaurant, always take so much pride in what they do. Great food, plenty of choice. Will be back again soon.

Ordered here a few months ago, food took two hours and was freezing cold. Not even an apology. Ordered again today thinking it may have been a one off and they didn’t deliver half of my food and the attitude I got when they eventually delivered the other half was disgusting. (They took 30 minutes to redeliver meaning by this time my current food was cold anyway.) Won’t be ordering here again! if I could give a zero star rating I absolutely would.

Lovely food and superb friendly service

Even though there was a long line when we arrived, the wait was surprisingly quick. Kudos to the attentive staff who even offered soft drinks while we were in line. I've ordered takeout from this establishment multiple times, and they consistently deliver solid food and good service.

Fantastic service, food was nice but needed more sauce. Maybe worth having larger bowls to increase the size of the volume of sauce as this can leave some dishes dry, like a Biryani. Also I would make the samosa in house you can do better than the bought in type.

Worth every minutes we spent in the queue. The staff is incredible, I shared my intolerance to onion and literally the whole staff worked the menu and made annotation and arrangement for the whole time, I was so impressed. Then obviously the food is amazing, the service is fast and the place is beautiful. I'll definitely come over again.

I would like to praise this restaurant, firstly for the warm welcome and outstanding level of customer service. The staff were so attentive, checking the food was okay and providing a very friendly service. I eat all types of food, but have a particular soft spot for Indian food. The standards were high, very clean and tasty, similar to some of the great Indian restaurants in West London where I am based. The ambiance was nice, authentic music and the restaurant was very clean.

Me and the wife had a meal as a Saturday night treat. We’d been the week before with friends and had a fab meal. Tonight was just as good special biryani and tikka masala, delicious food and poppadums on the house. The service was exceptional, can’t fault any of it, we’ll definitely be back.

Outstanding food and service wasnt expecting that. Use to use castle gate caerphilly however lately it has become very bland and pricey not worth it. Will return to the Raj of india soon!

For many years this place was our fave curry house. Consistently tasty, delivered on time and friendly staff. But over the past year or so the food started getting more oily and inconsistent- it was a bit hit or miss depending on who was cooking. The last straw was last night. Said 45 minutes for delivery. After 1 hour we called (first time they’d ever been late for years) and were told: it’s because we’ve run out of chicken (nothing we ordered had chicken in it), and then told, oh it was no. 16 on your road that ordered the chicken (highest number on our road is no. 15!). Irritating lies. Another hour later (2 hours total) with no answer on phone we drive there to collect it. Another lie: it’s with delivery driver 5 mins away. We waited outside 5mins, still hadn’t arrived, and so went back in, it was sat on the worktop. Hate lies. Would have been fine if they’d been honest that they were just struggling. They promised a part refund due to delays and for paying delivery fees yet having to collect it. However that was another lie. Final straw: tasted average. A real shame. Very much doubt we’ll go back again.

Awesome Indian food. A must go to place for curry eaters.

Doesn't look all that inviting from the outside as it is above a hairdressers and the menu in the display case is aging (and out of date). However, the interior is clean and modern with views of Caerphilly Castle (if that is important for you). There was only one fellow serving on the Sunday evening we visited (it was Peter Andre's night off, presumably?), so service could be a tad slow, but was also attentive and polite. Food was very good for your fairly standard India restaurant, and fair value as well. No alcohol licence though, so you would need to bring your own. Would have given it five stars but they'd run out of mint chocs to give with the bill! That said, popadoms etc were on the house. All round an enjoyable sit-in experience for a rainy night in Caerphilly. You could do a lot worse...

We haven’t ordered a takeaway for a long time, as regardless of what we order or where we order it from the food is always so bland and disappointing. But tonight we ordered a Murgh Sagwala from The Raj and it’s the best curry I’ve had in years. It was fresh, well spiced, seasoned just right and tasted delicious. We’ll done The Raj!

Fantastic restaurant with exceptional food. The meat could be seasoned better but that is something that can be corrected easily but the sauces are very nice and the service is first class.

Ripped off , hanged £17 for 1 chips 1 curry and 1 nan ,phoned ,when ordered 2 chips , phoned back told prices gone up, well not on menu it hasn't, should of come too £13 looking at menu prices,ripped right off !!!

Myself, son and grandaughter (who was having her first experience of a traditional Indian restaurant) on 5.7.23. It was made a good experience for Olivia as waiter Joe made a big fuss of her and made her feel special, even though she was more interested in food. Would like to thank all who made it a lovely grown up evening for her.

Went for a family birthday meal. We had Salmon Tikka, Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Massala and Lamb Handi, plus starters and poppadoms. All the food was amazing, we all really enjoyed it. I must also give a mention to the wonderful staff who were so friendly and kind, and didn't rush us at all. Really liked that we could take our own wine, and the food was very reasonablly priced. We can't wait to go back.

Very attentive staff clean and comfortable, not a lot of atmosphere. Considered chicken was under cooked and not able to eat centre of the breast. Lamb tough too, no licence

I usually order a takeaway via the just eat app and have never been disappointed but was driving past today so thought I would pop in and order for the first time. Was met by a friendly and welcoming team. Thanks Joe. Great food as always.

Best curry we’ve had in Caerphilly and such a good price. They let you bring your own booze so that a huge bonus as well! Will definitely be back very soon!

Haven't used this restaurant for a while and it will be a long time if at all before I use it again. Take away turned up on time but was cold and very poor quality. I ordered the Chicken Dansak but turned out to be onions in a garlic sauce the chicken was thrown from a great height!

Ordered via just eat, then cancelled 1hr later by this restaurant. Really poor as we have been waiting an hour for the delivery for it to be cancelled.

Took my young family again to experience a variety of curry dishes. Service was excellent as usual. Intimate setting overlooking Caerphilly castle at night adds to the experience. Very kind staff. Being able to bring your own soft drinks and alcohol really reduced the cost...

Absolutely lovely.. we requested no onions and they provided it with no hassle. Been living in Wales for 2 years now and not had a indian takeaway because of the onion situation I am pleased to say I will definitely be ordering again from here.

Had an evening meal here with friends. The waiter was very helpful, attentive and patient. He helped us with selections and was very knowledgeable. The food was excellent and had good portions. Chicken tikka saag was my favourite, but all dishes were fab. Very reasonable prices, in fact cheap compared to city centre places. Highly recommend.

We were a group of 5 that turned up and had a brilliant service from the management from telling us where to get alcohol from ( we are from outside of the area and they do no alcohol), the staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful....

We arrived without a booking on a Friday evening and had an excellent meal. Very friendly people, a wide choice of meals which were cooked to order. We hadn’t been able to buy any take in drinks, but were given advice on where to purchase...

i cant believe it three of us went there monday18th/ April walked in the guy who looks like peter andre was on the phone, we were there about 15 mins he was still on the phone, when he finished he came over and said sorry...

Would avoid this takeaway in the future and not recommend to friends or family. Half of our order turned up cold, one of them had hairs in it and to top it of our Chicken Tikka Masala’s which is a pretty basic dish consisting of just roasted marinated chicken chunks in spiced curry sauce was consistent of just dishwasher water, rubber chicken and a bland tasteless red spice that is an insult to India.

Excellent experience food was great made up for losing to Italy. Will definitely be back again.

Weve had good experiences with this restaurant in the past and have been frequent customers. However, their delivery service is getting worse, with items missing from the order. Tonight the order waa due to be delivered at 7.10 onwards and weve just had a message...

Excellent...spices are subtle..good for any one..children to grown ups...taste is brilliant..I would recommend this place..

I always order a takeaway here for home delivery every other month. Never been disappointed. Food is nice and love the chicken tandoori starter. Only Indian I know of that serves this on the bone. Delicious 😋 Looking forward to ordering again soon.

Curry was missing from delivery on two separate occasions. The first time this happened they replaced the curry an hour later which meant we all ate at different times and food was cold etc. We thought it might have been a one off mistake and...

Just had a takeaway delivered has to be the worst curry I have ever had, a variety of tandoori dishes and tika, just pieces of dry chicken with some food dye added, soggy vegetables which are meant to be seared , any chef should be ashamed to present this muck

Decided to try because of discount with Uber eats and because it used to be our usual Indian years ago,disappointing meal to be honest,very oily and all meal seemed to be the same sauce,some sundries were missing ,such a shame but won’t try again

Very poor service on the 28th Feb which is unfortunate, We have placed many orders with a hit and miss on quality some good some bad, in this occasion Food was cold and watery, We had placed an order through food hub for £26, two of us didn't end up eating the meal and was left very disappointed, in difficult times you would expect a good quality service for the price will not be ordering again.

Very very disappointing. Order was wrong missing a chicken tikka and boiled rice. The curry and Bombay potatoes that did turn up were lukewarm and literally swimming in oil!!! We had a discount with Uber eats but wished that we’d stuck with our usual place....

Worst curry I’ve ever eaten. My husband is vegetarian abd they sent chicken curry instead of vegetable and both our dinners were stone cold and arrived an hour late.

Food was cold, items missing from order! Gave benefit of the doubt and ordered again, sadly once again food was cold and forgot to send chips 🙄 very consistent in messing up orders.

Forget something every time I place an order! Food cold!... on our last order they forgot the korma, chips and the bottle of coke! Which they say they could not redeliver On the night Because they are too busy! even though it was paid for! They told me they would send it next time I order from them but have now suspended my address from delivery and my account! 🤯 haven’t even had the decency to offer the money back for the items we didn’t receive.

Food was 30 minutes late despite waiting an hour standard wait. This place has gone to the dogs. Tasteless and everything just a big washy mess. Even the mint sauces were like water. Naan bread undercooked and raw. Curry taste less never agaain UPDATE ordered once since gave benefit of doubt. Wasnt great but wasnt bad but look now 2 months later they have responded to feedback and suspended my account. Hmmmm

The food that has a enough oil to give anyone poor health, on top the bag which had the nan bread in, was with dirty marks on bottom and oil stains. completely avoid.

Cannot recommend a better Indian around Caerphilly. Our neighbours recommended this place and since our first visit, Raj is our only choice for Indian food. The flavours are delicious and meat is cooked very well. Also the staff are very friendly and have been brilliant during the lockdown, conducting in the most safe and hygenic way possible....you won't regret choosing this Indian!!

I used to go to another curry house until I tried the Raj. No doubt the best curry we have had, so tasty and the service is excellent! I'm normally a korma girl but tried three different mild curries from the Raj and loved all of them.

Came 20 mins late! My curry was watery and had no taste to it but all spice! I had a side of salad come and it was gone off it was all brown! I’ve had really nice food from there before but not this time my chicken was freezing😫

Had Indian from here for many years now but lately I find it has more onions than meat. Same great flavour but not enough meat.

Phoned the Raj and asked whether they could deliver by 6.15pm , we phoned at 5.30pm, they said "yes no problem" . We ordered a chicken Malaya Egg fried ricePlain Madras sauceI was doing sides myself as I don't like takeaway chips. We waited and 6.15 came and went. We phoned and first there was no answer and rang off. Wonderful service think not!!!!!! Tried phoning again no answer . Then we had a phone call saying it has left it's on its way. Again we waited and waited 6.40 it turned up. The chicken Malaya packaging seemed hot but that was it. The rice was luke warm just and the Madras sauce. My biggest problem though is having grey grissily chicken!!! I have taken photos of this to prove what I am saying. Having found the grey chicken it then spoils everything and put me off the food. There was also 1piece of pineapple (tasted like apple) in it aswell. The rice wasn't cooked properly it had big clumps where it was stuck together. Big disappointment. Standards of takeaways are poor and this place is definitely one of them . Yuk

Excellent service from the moment you're met the door and your coats are taken till when you leave. Small and cosy the tables are quite small. The food is outstanding. Totally understandable as to why this is a top rated restaurant. Overall an excellent restaurant where you are allowed to enjoy your excellent food in very pleasant surroundings. Not cheap, but still good value.

There are very few places in the world that highlight good Indian food, this is one. It's not dumbing down their cuisine to cater to Western palettes, or making it gimmicky or ultra modern. This is authentic Indian cooking, with fantastic ingredients and flavors, at it's finest.

Went here last week with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. Was pleasantly surprised. Had free chutneys to star which was a lovely thought. Ordered a lamb curry and keema rice. The lamb was lovely but I thought the sauce was a bit gloopy. Rice lovely though. Would definitely go again if in Caeo
