Missing rice nan bread was cold and saag aloo cold

Not many prawns in the meal, wasn’t very warm, too expensive for what it was. Won’t bother ordering again.

The butter chicken tasted only of coconut. Not the slightest curry taste. The whole order was cold.

Don't be fooled by the dated interior and 12-year-old menus in the window. Once inside, the place is spotless and the food tasted great. We were brought a chutney tray soon after arrival, which seemed to be complimentary. I managed to pour most of my Biryani onto the table and they insisted on bringing me a fresh one which was also not charged for. After dinner chocolates given with the bill were taken randomly from a box of Celebrations.

Usually really good but forgot some of our order, gave the wrong curry and some of the food was cold :(

Ordered food (paid in full) this evening after waiting an hour they decided to cancel my order with no explanation, now its a 3-5 day wait for a refund. Shocking!!!! Never again!!!!

Absolutely shocking experience with Raj of India Caerphilly on New Year’s Eve 2024. I placed an order at 6:10 pm with a 45-minute delivery estimate. Knowing it was a busy evening, I waited patiently until 7:15 pm before trying to contact them. From then until 9:14 pm, I called 11 times, sent messages on WhatsApp, and even tried Facebook Messenger—no response. When I finally got through, the person on the phone said, “I packed that ages ago,” as if that was an acceptable excuse. Meanwhile, I’d been waiting over 3 hours for food that never arrived. I’ve had issues with their slow delivery before, but this time it was the last straw. How can a business keep accepting orders when they clearly can’t handle the demand? If you’re too busy, stop taking new orders so customers can find somewhere else instead of being left waiting and hungry for hours. Save yourself the stress—just don’t bother.

Food was tasty. Disappointed it arrived very late and unfortunately food was cold. Main dishes were an ok temperature but the starters and sides/rice were cold.

Food was said to be delivered about 720. They did not deliver, we called and were then told that it was on its way. We believe they couldn’t find our address so returned and left our food until we had called. The chips were cold and soggy, the naan bread is burnt and cold. General standard is poor, cold and tasteless. Really frustrated by this

I visited your establishment yesterday with my partner, our son, and our autistic daughter. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a man who had no teeth and was barefoot, who directed us to a table that was noticeably dirty, with sauce stains and an unpleasant odor that resembled either farming or lingering waste. I placed an order for a keema naan for my children and a curry each for myself and my wife. Throughout the time we were seated, the employee stood next to us, repeatedly smiling at my daughter. He commented on her blonde hair and made me uncomfortable by offering to massage her back and physically touching her. I intervened and requested that he stop, which prompted his manager to shout at him in Hindi. The employee then retreated to the back of the restaurant. When our food arrived, I was disappointed to find that the curry was watery and spilling over the plate, and the keema naan contained no meat. Additionally, I noticed two employees in the back of the restaurant taking photos of us at the table, which further unsettled my wife. As a result, we chose to leave without paying, as my wife felt extremely uncomfortable. This was an unpleasant experience, and I will not be returning to your establishment in the future.

I've never had a problem ordering from here before, but the food took over 1 and half hours and the quality of the food was awful!

This is the second time in a row I’ve had to wait an hour past the stated delivery time for a meal from this restaurant. Again the food was cold when it finally turned up. To add insult to injury, my saag paneer was a third full if that. I don’t expect to be short-changed like that. Although I’ve previously enjoyed meals from this restaurant, sadly I won’t be ordering from them again.

all the curries were watered down and oily, tikka masala was red last time this time was brown, most of the chicken bhuna was onions and water not much sauce, lime pickle looked gone off, completly different quality since my last order, dissapointed

Food like warm not hot as you would expect. Not even enough per portion to share between two people just a spoonful of meat drowned in greasy curry sauce. My partner sat down to eat her food and watery juice from the curry sauce literally fell off the plate into her lap (needless to say we are both fuming). Bring your own alcohol and no corkage applied. I had prawn puree starter followed by a lamb lalusa and garlic naan. Everyone enjoyed their meal and they are very reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place

Lamb pasanda was tasteless, chips was under cooked. Only thing that was cooked nice was the rice and garlic naan. Waste of my money.

Two hours after initially ordering our food it arrived, this was 45 minutes after the “latest” expected time. Chips are stone cold, popadoms are cracked and in tiny pieces, basically a popadom dust! Keema Nan is more dough than meat. Not happy.

Fantastic meal tonight so tasty and excellent service. We will be back. The fact you can take your own alcohol is a bonus. But the food alone would encourage us back

What a lovely place, and lovely service. Have been going here for many years and the food just gets better and better! These people will do anything for you and you get a beautiful view of castell too. Would recommend to anyone

Worst meal we have had in a while. Food was nearly 30 mins late, wouldn't answer the phone. Then received a text saying it was delayed. Probably been driven half way around Caerphilly before it got to us hence it being cold and late! Poppadoms inedible as smashed, overall the worst meal ever. Definitely won't be ordering from here again...

Amazing food. Fantastic service! Nothing is ever too much for them. Always ask for plain masala sauce with my food and they are always happy to do it for me even though it’s not an option for the food I order. The food is always amazing and always enough for two days. Best Indian around

A real shame, this used to be our go to Indian that we even used to travel from Cardiff from but we've just waited an hour and a half for a cold, oily curry. Chips were uneatable and poppadoms were smashed to pieces. Unfortunately we won't be ordering here again !

I was really looking forward to my meal, but absolutely disappointed afterwards. Spent over £30. The food was below par, super oily and very tasteless. Shame. First time here as our usual is closed. Not planning on coming back.

Ordered chicken biryani, which used to be excellent. Very disappointed- no whole spices, no depth of flavour, overwhelming use of garlic. Don't think we'll use you again unfortunately.

What was delivered was delicious. Unfortunately a part of the meal was missing. Restaurant did not include the rice with the order. No point in phoning the restaurant as the rest of the meal would have been cold by the time they sent the rice out (not the first time this has happened). Thankfully I had some microwave rice in the cupboard; not the same, bus was able to at least make a meal.

Ordered a takeaway for 2 people on a Thursday evening. I’m not usually a fan of the Raj, as personally I think it’s a bit over rated from past experience. However, the food was delivered very quickly and was piping hot. It was absolutely delicious and was of generous proportions. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will be ordering again.

The food I got was okay but one of the mains was missing and the other main wasn’t what I’d ordered. Tried calling the restaurant and nobody answered. Frustrating as the missing item was the one that we’d ordered for in the first place.

Had a delivery this evening, one of the worst Indians I've ever had. Makani no flavour, bombay potatoes awful. Rice lumpy. To say the cucumber and poppadoms was the best part is sad. Waste of £30 Indians in caerphilly are awful. AVOID THIS ONE

Every dish we sampled was a masterpiece with vibrant spices and expertly balanced flavours. From the delightful tikka masala to the sizzling meat platters, each bite celebrated authentic Indian cuisine at its finest. The chef's meticulous attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the meal, from the tender meats to the freshly ground spices. One dish that particularly stood out was the Raj special murgh masala, unlike anything we've ever tasted. Came here on a Friday evening, restaurant was fairly quiet, we had booked but probably didn’t need to. Menu was extensive, regular curries but also had chef specials. Starters were a good size and tasty (we had prawn puri and onion Bhaji). Staff were very attentive and generally nice people. Would definitely come back if we return to Caerphilly.

Been a loyal customer for many years, used to make the best tasting food. Only reason for my rating is because it appears the food isn’t what it used to be. Lately it’s watery curry sauces, chicken not so good, soggy chips and stale poppadoms. Very gutted to be writing this review as they have been my go to every single week for years. But unfortunately the standards continue to drop

We visited the Raj of India following a friend's recommendation, and it was such a good decision! The food was truly amazing: delicious, fresh and full of flavour. The components of every dish are made fresh and this comes through in the ultimate flavour of the dish. Particular recommendations are the Special Biryani and Murgh Sagwala, but every dish from starter through to dessert was delicious. You must try the 3 flavour kulfi for dessert too! And all this with a great atmosphere and extremely friendly, helpful staff made the experience a winning one! Looking forward to returning soon.

Ordered arrived on time. Food was inedible - masala was oily, lumpy and tasteless. The chicken was tough and overcooked. Had a couple of mouthfuls before putting it in the bin - really disappointing. Won’t be ordering again.

Food was OK apart from sauce it was a massala sauce was was just like a spicy oil was inedible so ended up with a dry meal.

As always fantastic service, the service is always the best I have had from any restaurant, always take so much pride in what they do. Great food, plenty of choice. Will be back again soon.
