Very good friendly staff nice food

Food is always excellent, plenty of variety both mains and starters. Excellent value for money and the staff are very friendly.

Dear Goggle Maps Team and Readers Here goes our visit and review. As you will know being married to the Lord of Darkness for a very long time I knew I could get his attention with an Asian buffet meal such as his weakness for chilli and spice and his apprentice the Prince of Chaos being just as weak minded when it comes to his stomach. I didn't book a table but asked his lordship to take us here, there was little resistance as if ...... on arrival a small but decent sized carpark awaited the chariot of insanity. I went in and asked if we could have a table for 3 of which they could so went to summon his lordship from his chariot and we were shown to a nice table in the middle. The waiter took our drinks order 3 soft drinks as his lordship is on a major desugarisation programme following getting beat up by his Doctor for his BP and MMoL recently, ha how the mighty have fallen like a fallen angel 😇 such as he is. The waiter advised it would be a few minutes whilst they finished filling the buffet and true to word within 5 mins they got the green light and both my men, my demonic husband and my son his apprentice of chaos were out of the blocks like the end of the world was coming. Well they gave the buffet the bashing it deserved and both said it was awesome, really good quality food and whilst it wasn't like those bigger national buffets that you can find it was small but extensive enough to cater for those wishing to try Asian to those pair of hard core chilli heads of mine The food stations were kept clean by a waiter continually cleaning up the stations, fresh top ups we coming out and we were asked several times if it was ok of which is like taking your life in your own hands when these pair are in food demolishing mode His highness top rated was the mint chilli tikka masala which if he had he way would have put a chair up to the station with a ladle such as he rated the masala This place hit a fast 5 star rating and it will be a struggle to stop them returning while on our tour of South Wales. Whilst Asian food can be something to everyone, for us in the house of chaos we felt it was worthy of 5 stars, for the food, quality, cleanliness, service and the price was reasonable for 3 adults plus 3 drinks circa £60 was today bearing in mind it's a buffet was value for money for 5 stars We recommend this place to not just the locals but for tourists to the area, it's worth a drive to, book in advance is recommended as I suspect it gets busy Yours Her of his lordship of Darkness. This was our first visit to the Bengal Cymru, and we weren't disappointed. The buffet selection was excellent. The food was fresh and hot and was regularly topped up. I'm vegetarian and the selection was fantastic. The starter was lovely and very tasty. I picked a main dish and a side from the main menu, and both were excellent. The staff were kind and very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely be back.

Food, service and atmosphere could not be any better. They managed to get us a table even after booking incorrectly.

A good buffet style Indian. All options were nice but there was less choice than expected with most mains being chicken based.

It's a buffet, and the food is great, but its still table service for things like wine. We ordered a couple of bottles of wine and it took rather a long time to come as it was mega busy. But the staff were all friendly and the food was very tasty, and the prices good.

They don't respect their staff and harass them

10/10 Phoned to order and collect. The guy asked for my name and started a brilliant conversation about authentic Bengali food which really impressed me. He suggested an authentic madras which is something I thought I would never taste in the UK. I’ve been eating curry around the world For many years. The scope for me to have dishes my restaurant owner friend in the 90’s is great and to me it’s priceless. Thank you for offering me this special service. Food was delicious, we had my authentic chicken madras, lamb bhuna, sag aloo, the mixed grill, and perfectly cooked fluffy rice. We’ll be going again for the dine in, the place looks fantastic and is perfectly kitted out. Drove down from Blackwood for it and I’m glad we did, and that we discovered this place. Thank you to all of you guys at Bengal Cymru, you have a new customer for life!!!

Difficult to give an objective review as it was a Saturday evening with a birthday party of 40+ guests going on in the upstairs room, so very busy. In general this is an all you can eat buffet restaurant although it does say a set menu is available. Some confusion when we arrived as initially we had booked for 7, later updated to 12, but this hadn't been taken onboard, after some discussion an additional table was found and butted up to ours. The food is very good, but obviously as it is kept warm in large "hostess trolleys" it does take an edge off the quality. A fixed cost of £16.95 per adult Sun to Thurs, and £18.95 Fri & Sat. All in all a very good evening. Only two real negatives, could do with another pair of boots on the ground to keep things a bit tidier, and the actual food could do with a spice guide to how hot it is, one or two of our party plated some food they couldn't eat as it was too spicy for them so this was wasted. booked a table, which ended up being for more people than originally planned - wasn't too concerned about it being an extra two people as they have always been so accommodating and flexible in the past. when we arrived you could hardly get in through the door with people trying to get in and out of the place. it was extremely crowded and hot in the restaurant that it wasn't enjoyable to sit there for very long whilst catching up with family. poor booking plans as there was a party of 40 upstairs plus 55 downstairs, it would have been nice to be aware of this when booking a large table ourselves that there were other large reservations at the same time, resulting in delays trying to access the buffet. spoke with the manager on site who became argumentive and dismissive, no apology about the poor accommodation of our table, which would not have sat 10 adults comfortably. when finally being able to resolve the seating arrangement and queuing for the buffet, we got back to the table to find the food wasn't even warm. thankfully I didn't put much on my plate in hopes that they would be bringing out new trays of food due to the buffet looking rather scarce (not shocked after 40 people had just been at it) the second plate of food was hot at least but bland and disappointing. waiter tried to take my plate that was still full whilst I had put my fork down to move out of his way to clear the rest of the table and I had to tell him more than once that I was still eating. I appreciate it's a Saturday night and likely to be busier than mid week but I've been in plenty of times on a weekend and had a choice of tables where it has been quiet. There was definitely not adequate planning for the numbers in the restaurant nor was the food up to its usual standard. The desserts were not well stocked so it's a good job the large party has a birthday cake because there wasn't much of a selection left.

Went for a friends catch up, 3 ladies for the buffet. This was our first visit to the restaurant and is absolutely fantastic.. With friendly, attentive staff, gorgeous, plentiful, hot food of excellent quality. From starters to curries and sides and deserts. This is by far the best Indian buffet we have had. Will definitely recommend and are going to return as we have an upcoming special birthday. Thank you Bengal Cymru ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏🏻🤗

My experience was delightful. The service was incredibly quick, and the waitstaff were exceptionally warm and welcoming. I truly enjoyed the lovely food, especially considering how affordable it was.

Pre booked in January a table of 16 for 21st birthday celebrations.Checked the night before and booking confirmed.Arrived Saturday 15th Feb to be told no booking !!! Didnt appear to believe us until my daughter showed the confirmation.Was told we could go upstairs but that the room was cold and no atmosphere and would have to go up and downstairs to get food.Decided to wait what felt like eternity and were shown to a table for 12 and 4 could wait for adjacent table or sit behind.Waiter placed 2 knives each on the table of 12 and walked off .We waited and waited thinking a waiter would come and take drinks orders and provide cutlery -WRONG ! He was more interested in seating a walk in party of 4 people and taking their orders!!! At that point we contacted the Darren pub who could reserve a booking for us.We left Bengal Cymru and there were no apologies from them and no response to E mailed complaint.As regards food we obviously cant comment as we didnt get to eat it.As rdgards the Darren the food was lovely and very friendly service -shame on you Bengal Cymru !!

Accepted my Uber eats order. Then took 15+ mins to cancel it with some pithy excuse. Adding more time when I had to find a substitute at a late hour.

Staff are very friendly and the food was lush! A little overpriced for the buffet and dessert section was a bit disappointing. The ice cream has been scooped out of a tub and put in smaller tubs in the freezer. I think they should invest in a proper ice cream machine, would definitely make it better!

Nice and friendly little place in Risca if you’re a fan of Indian cuisine. Staff is friendly, the place is clean and well decorated and its good value for money.

Avoid at all cost thought me and my family would try this as the reviews was good booked a table for 7 o’clock when we arrived we were waiting by the door for 45 minutes! Then still didn’t have a table so they sat us up stairs ordered drinks they took 1 hour to come the food was horrible and stale Upstairs the sat us were they disposed the food and dirty plates AVOID

Bengal Cymru exceeded all my expectations! Every dish was a symphony of flavors, with fresh ingredients and expert preparation. The Buffet was a standout, but honestly, everything on the menu impressed me. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed, enjoyable meal. Highly recommend this gem-don’t miss out!

Food took 2 hours for delivery , the madras was awful, was watery and cold with no taste and bland, Never thought a curry could be so bad. Don't recommend

Went in last night great welcome and seated straight away drinks ordered and delivered very quickly had the all inclusive (lol) dinner loads of choice for starters mains and deserts all starters and mains hot and tasty and great choice of the lovely deserts will be back soon loved it all at a great price 😍

Firstly must say the staff were excellent and in no way deserve the 1 star. However we will never be returning to this place. We opted to try the buffet (stay clear) food was bland and stale . Traditional taste of India (taken from their website) I find this hard to believe. All the curry’s were sweet tasting and nothing like traditional Indian flavours. Unfortunately the food did not last long in me and have had upset stomach now for 24 hours.

Lovely food, lovely experience friendly staff. Who don’t rush you, clean and always quick with service can’t be faulted at all. Definitely going to visit again.

Came along here for the first time yesterday for my daughters birthday and it was lovely! Well worth the drive. The staff were super friendly- even one of the chefs came and offered a hand to one of the younger members of our party at the buffet. Really lovely, clean atmosphere and it wont be our last visit thats for sure.

Amazing value for money Indian restaurant in Risca. Great food at a decent price! Never come away hungry as good portion sizes. Popular, so busy on the weekends so worth booking ahead. Love you guys

Really good buffet. Plenty of choice and we were impressed with how well organised it all was. There was always a member of staff checking the food area, cleaning and checking on serving spoons etc. Very good value for money, tasty food and good service. We'll be back.

Visited with family and kids from London (hoilday). Food was delicious and bursting with flavours. Love the modern look. Service was professional, staff amazing. I would highly recommend this place.

Shabz and the team have done it again. I'm gluten intolerant and can be tricky for me at times, but at Bengal Cymru Shabs not only explains what I can and can't eat, also had a freshly cooked gluten free Chapati, which was delicious. Desert, snowballs, and Daim cake, what a way to finish it off. Thanks again for making it a special visit again.

Food was nice staff were very helpful and pleasant but unfortunately the group of men sat by the side of us were very loud and language was appalling

Ordered directly through the website site and informed it would be 55mins before delivery which was fine as it was a Saturday night. After an hour and a half it still hadn’t arrived so had to call the restaurant and it hadn’t been prepped yet, I was then informed it would be 15/20 mins. After an additional 20 mins beyond the time I was informed I called the restaurant again and I was told it wouldn’t be long, I said it had been over 2 hours and they said it won’t be long, thanks, bye and they hung up; After another 5 mins it arrived. The food smelt good but that’s as good it got. All of the food was horribly greasy and bland. Nothing had any flavour which was disappointing and I wish I’d not spent the money. The price is good for the quantity and it was piping hot when it got delivered but other than that, I have nothing good to say about it. DON’T waste your money.

Went for a birthday party and the food was lovely, buffet plentiful and piping hot, orders off the menu took a long time but then they are mainly a buffet which was excellent value for money.. Will definitely go again, but I will avoid a Friday evening. The only downside is parking

Visited for the first time recently and it was outstanding. Good hot food and loads of variety. Service was great too and atmosphere pleasant. We went during a quiet time however so unsure how it fares when busy but will be back for sure.

A pretty good 'all you can eat' buffet style Indian restaurant. The mains are pretty good, but the desert selection is awesome

Went last night and was very disappointed, we had booked in advance but had to wait nearly half an hour to be sat down as it was so busy which wasn't a great start. When we were eventually seated the food was absolutely terrible, everything was completely tasteless, I tried 3 different curries and none of them tasted like anything, chicken was dry and had the texture of cardboard and it was just generally awful, I find it hard to fathom how you can make a curry so tasteless! It made me feel sorry for all those people who lost their taste when they had covid, thankfully I retained mine when I had it but after last night I can perfectly understand what it must be like to eat food with no flavour whatsoever, disgusting. Also witnessed staff members putting out cakes and desserts with bare hands. Extremely overpriced at nearly £20 each, my advice, drive a further 20 yards up the road and go to the tamarind instead, it's so much nicer there and no, I don't work for them or haven't been paid for this revue, just a normal guy who appreciates tasty food.

I prebooked well ahead for New Years Eve 730pm We arrived 10mins early Three members of staff asked us how many, each time we told them the name of whom it was booked under and the time of the booking. We were then shown to a table where one of the seats was soaking wet. Our host appeared unbothered by this at first until we refused it. To be honest we should of walked out then. But we didn't and as it was a vinyl chair it was dried easily enough. Throughout the short time we were there we asked if we wanted more drinks several times, we had 3 cokes and one cobra. The drinks were Untouched the first time they asked about refills. On the placemats are the prices for the buffet. Basically £17/19 depending on the day you attend. We were there for around 45minutes. On paying we were informed it was £27 each for the buffet. We asked where this price was displayed on the website was the answer ?! There was no uprated price advertised on the way in, none of staff informed us and nothing visible on the bar where we paid. The only visible prices like I mentioned above were on the placemats. When I booked off the website there was nothing to say it would be a different price to normal. If they had informed us before we entered then we would of had a choice to stay or go. To me this was fraudulent. We ended up paying but it left a bitter taste. Then today I had an email saying we hadn't turned up yesterday and had been marked down as a no show. Well that was the last straw for me. I will not go there again and I'm taking advice about their conduct.

Just had nearly £70 worth of curries delivered….set menu for 4 persons. It took over an hour and a half to arrive…was luke warm and absolute tasteless garbage. All the different curries looked the same in a tasteless, bland, gloopy vegetable sauce, that didn’t even resemble curry at all. More like a stew. This was possibly the worse curry I’ve ever had in front of me in fifty years. I own a catering business and would be ashamed and embarrassed to serve food of that quality to my customers. We are extremely disappointed and will definitely NOT be a returning customer.

Food took 2 hours to come when we were told it would be 1 hour, rang up after 1 hour 30 to be told it would be 5 minutes. Food turned up barely warm and missing chips. We won't be ordering or visiting again which is a shame as we have enjoyed many sit down meals the years.

Some of the dishes were really good. Service was excellent. The wierd thing was that a korma and bhuna dishes were a bit too spicy and the onion bhaji was more like a pakora than bhaji. Still was an excellent meal. If you are vegitarian don't go for the buffet option as not much for veggies, go for the menu option where there is more choice. Overall pretty good and I would go back again.

Wonderful food, excellent service and unbelievable value for money. Well worth a visit, you won't regret it. Visited again yesterday and had another excellent, and very filling meal. All we could eat, 3 drinks each for £25 each (Inc the tip). Superb.

Good authentic buffet selection with some really nice naan breads. There are plenty of spicy (madras) and mild options (korma and tikka) and also vegetarian dishes: sag aloo (so tasty), garlic mushrooms, chutney mix etc. They do also allow you to order anything separate off the menu should you need a special dish (vegetable curries, other meats etc.). The only drawback is that the tables are so cramped together - we get it though, it’s a small space and very popular! It gets noisy, and kids do tend to run around the place. We visited on a Tuesday at 6pm and it was even starting to get busy at that time. We have been on a Saturday and it was horrendously busy in comparison with a long wait for a table and you couldn’t hear yourself think. Servers were more attentive on this visit (they had the time!). They could improve the dessert selection and ice cream flavours.

Excellent service, brilliant food,went to celebrate a birthday, 20 of us,Bengal Cymru looked after us amazingly, had the buffet. Would recommend the place to everyone...👏👏👏👏

Ordered via telephone.. was told 1 hour, called after 1.40 and arrived after 2 hours. Most of the food, despite the delay, was piping hot and very delicious.. a starter was missing from the order and upon calling was offered the dish but at a wait OR a voucher to use off our next order.. this is up for debate within the group due to huge waits and given that we probably won't order again - yup their loss as we order takeout twice a week and new to the area AND host friends regulary- but hey ho!! There's always the Tamarind we hear have been around a little longer!! Friendly chap on the phone who apologised for the order, the delay, how busy they were.. we MIGHT try them on a quieter night to the weekend 🤔 but may not due to missing dish, 2 hour wait and a cold bhuna.

Ordered a takeaway and arrived at the specified time, was told it would be ready just bagging it up, then another 20 mins past before food arrived. While sat in the waiting area it was very loud with one certain individual pretty much shouting to be heard and swearing constantly. The food was OK, quite a few undercooked chips but the curries tasted good. Sadly with the amount of decent Indian takeaways and restaurants we have in the area this won't be one I return to.

Brilliant service and polite staff, never asked us to hurry and was happy to offer explanations on a curry I didn't know. Would happily attend again and again!

Very nice buffet with lots of choice of curries. Some good starters and nice selection of rices and side dishes. Also nice to see keema naan part of the buffet as normally just plain or garlic in other all you can eats. Desserts ok but had better elsewhere but I don't really rate an Indian on the Desserts.

Fantastic everytime we come here. Great variety of super dishes. Serving area always kept clean by attentive ,but unobtrusive staff. A bit noisy when busy,but only to be expected really. If you love Indian food and have a good appetite,then look no further!

We have been here a few times now, but this time was the last. I understand it's buffet, everything was so watered down, from the mango chutney, mint sauce to the heavily filled out curries. Do yourself a favour, and go to the Tamarind across the road.

We enjoyed the starters, salad, dips and poppadoms but the curries were either bland or over spiced and the meat was dry. Good variety, but not as nice as other indian buffets that we have been to in the past.

Just had a lovely all you can eat buffet at Bengal Cymru in Risca, Newport. They are very clued up on allergens especially Gluten, a lot of meals are GF and they will even cook you a Gluten Free Chapati. Lovely Indian food.

Visited yesterday for the 1st time in around 18 months,surprisingly the food was much better and I am pleased to say so.there were a good few people there,atmosphere was nice,me and my mate gave it a right hiding.struggled getting to the car we were that full.....all in all a good experience 😀

I live in an American metropolitan community that has a fairly large Indian population. As a result, I dine at a variety of restaurants and have experience with and preference for Indian cuisine. The restaurant was busy, but not packed and as a hungry business traveler, the all you can eat buffet was the draw. I was seated immediately, and asked for a glass of water, then headed to the buffet, and spent six or seven minutes making selections. This was the country Wales, where meat is a stable, but still, there were no vegetarian items to choose from other than french fries. When I returned to the table, the second place setting had been removed, but there was no water. I asked for water at least two or three more times and was told “it’s on its way“ but it didn’t arrive until I was nearly finished with the first round which was dry and somewhat tasteless. Definitely the nearby tables that were ordering alcohol drinks we’re getting theirs. The water finally arrived, which I gulped and it was never replenished. There were at least four servers, and interestingly, all men… No women.

24th of May 2023 took my father for the buffet staff were excellent and the food was brilliant would recommend.

Fabulous food, brilliant service. Slight misunderstanding as I wanted a take out box for the food I didn't finish. It went in the bin!! Mortified staff, second dinner to take out, no extra charge. Absolutely superb. Will definitely be back

Discovered this place by chance tonight but will most definitely be back very soon. Lovely atmosphere, very high quality food and outstanding service. Our waiters and bar staff were very friendly and attentive and overall we had a delicious meal in a welcoming environment. If I had to fault something the only thing I could possibly say was that the poppadoms weren’t the best I’ve ever had but that didn’t matter at all once I tasted the rest of the food. Recommend a visit here!

Amazing food, such a lovely atmosphere inside but the heating needs to be put on, don't agree with shivering at my table.
